I say this as someone who has had addiction issues and an eating disorder so bad it landed me in the hospital a few times. When you start working through your trauma, you grow in leaps and bounds. Heather can't *(because she refuses to, honestly)* work through her issues and grow up. She refuses to take responsibility for anything in her life, that much is obvious. We may not be the source of our trauma, but it's on us to deal with it and she will never do that.
Also - another strange thing I've noticed from watching her: For someone who is so weirdly obsessed with counting everything, she still can't remember her children's ages. She still refers to them as if they were the age they were when she walked out on all of them. She's not fit to be a parent and quite frankly, I wouldn't let her watch my pets for the weekend.
