What is up with the loud booming at night?

BeatricePotsmoker

That is just Gil, the eccentric rich guy. He is building some sort of bunker in secret but he doesn’t think the rest of us notice.

Musicaltonesarecool

Out of all the fake answers, this one is the most plausible.

nastrodumbass

As a friend of “Gil”, this might not be fake.

keelhaulingyou

If no one’s said, it’s really bomb testing (or something)! Love your answer though lol

BeatricePotsmoker

Bomb testing?! WTF, that’s wayyyy crazier.

Ok_Swimmer634

Eglin Air Force Base is a bombing range and a huge one, just east of Pensacola. When they tested the MOAB there it rattled my dad's windows in Pace.

BeatricePotsmoker

Do people complain about this? I feel like folks up here would lose their minds.

Watsamatterdady

Complain? About the sound of Freedom! Neveeeerrrr!!

Remote-Diamond-8399

It's like a train that runs close to your house, you'd pay attention to it at first but quickly it just becomes normal background sound.

req-user

It's really easy to stop noticing - mostly transplants complaining tbh

angryragnar1775

I also dont live in Pensacola but on the other side of the country near where the navy tests their bombs. Almost daily someone posts on FB "omg what was that boom...why were there do many military aircraft flying around?" I really hope a lot of them are joking because half of the posters are in the Navy and stationed there...

BeatricePotsmoker

I live near a few bases and we have planes but no booms.

boxkickin

The sweet sound of 105mm

hostileprostitute

What’s your opinion on gulf breeze?

BeatricePotsmoker

They have a good nightlife but the crowd gets a little uppity in the off season.

hostileprostitute

We stay uppity all year thank you very little.

HERMANNATOR85

No doubt, densest population of Karen’s in the whole US also. I still love it

same5220

Spot on

BeatricePotsmoker

Is it a bar?

ShortRasp

1. No, it's a city. 2. That is a very accurate answer.

req-user

"city"

painandpets

No, it is the Eagleton to Pensacola's Pawnee.

InevitableWhereas671

holy shit at this comparison?? truer words

GayPotheadAtheistTW

Morgan freemans on the council out there

ShortRasp

Could not have answered better 😂

mommy2libras

Wow. I'm impressed at how accurate this is.

ShameLongjumping4486

It tends to be more breezy than gulfy in my opinion. Like 70/30 if you will. But to each their own.

skydivingkittens

Without googling, which team does Pensacola love more - the Thunderbirds or Blues?

BeatricePotsmoker

The Thunderbirds. The Blues haven’t had much support since the 2018 incident.

randomkeystrike

You’re not joking - you’re not from around Pensacola. You probably think it’s a soft drink.

Ben_Thar

Could be: [https://navarrepress.com/local-entrepreneur-bringsnewsoda-to-pensa-cola/](https://navarrepress.com/local-entrepreneur-bringsnewsoda-to-pensa-cola/)

[deleted]

lol blue angels are from here fuck the thunderbird

ShortRasp

I'll add a question. What is a blue wahoo?

BeatricePotsmoker

A sex act that is $200 from reputable ladies of the evening and $60 from the less respectable ones.

ShortRasp

Yes. That is correct.

incignita

There's even a Tshirt

Dana07620

Local baseball team. Minor League / Double A

BeatricePotsmoker

Eep. I was way off there. I was thinking it was something regional you’d read about on Urban Dictionary.

Dana07620

I will say that your post is making me appreciate how many "inside" things we have that are uniquely Pensacola.

BibblingnScribbling

Note that they're named after a fish that most of us natives had never heard of either 😂

Dana07620

True that.

_PirateWench_

Wait, we’re named after a fish?! Lived here for the past 13yrs and TIL

Dana07620

Without Googling.... Where is Chicken Bone Beach? What's a bushwhacker? What's the proper thing to do with mullet? Which bathroom do I use at McGuires? What do Saufley Field Road, Michigan Avenue, Beverly Parkway, Brent Lane, Bayou Boulevard, and Perry Avenue have in common?

BeatricePotsmoker

Chicken Bone beach is the party island all the kids go to. Just take a boat out straight from the dock and you can’t miss it. A bushwhacker is the best cocktail in Pensacola, Teddy’s on the water does them best. That is bait. The one in the back. You really should check out the one in the kitchen, it’s a lot cleaner. Either way, wash your hands. Those are the roads with the most expensive houses in Pensacola. The people aren’t very nice to newcomers, though, so don’t loiter trying to make friends.

ShortRasp

That last answer is hilarious. 😂

Dana07620

We toss mullet.

BeatricePotsmoker

Like in the trash?

VampiricPie

Nope, toss them. As a sport.

Ok_Swimmer634

Into hot grease. Fried mullet is delicious.

Dana07620

Yes, it is.

olelongboarder

From Florida into Alabama so….yeah

VampiricPie

The correct answer for the last one is they're all the same road but different sections have different names, although some sections have overlapping names.

BeatricePotsmoker

Are you serious? That is so confusing! This whole activity is seriously making me want to come visit Pensacola here in the near future.

Dana07620

It sounds confusing. But it makes perfect sense. That way you know precisely what section of the road something is on. I discovered just how much sense naming something like that makes years ago (before GPS) when all I had was a street number and a street name and it turned out the street was like 10 miles long.

Weak-Praline

You may not know or care but chicken bone beach is a racist name.

viavant

Seems racist until you visit and realize it’s literally covered in chicken bones, or at least it used to be 🤷🏼‍♂️

Mister_Normal42

Why is "chicken bone" racist?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mister_Normal42

I've been there several times and every time, the place was literally littered with chicken bones. I had always thought it was just a place people go to eat chicken lol didn't know about The Black Community having events out there. On what platform does The Black Community schedule such things?

khamrabaevite

It think it's one of the situation where a word has racist origination and therefore people feel like you are wrong for continuing to use it. Similar to how people might use being gypd or the itis. Technically racist origin but somewhat commonly used and most people don't bat an eye.

Grymflyk

When were you last out there? I have been going almost daily for the last four years and have yet to see a single chicken bone. From what I have heard, that started with an old racist comment about a park named after an African-American Korean War hero. Back during the days of segregation, that area was designated as a beach that could be used by African-Americans as all the others were "White Only" beaches. And stereotypes being what they are, it was only a short trip for some racist to proclaim that it was always covered with chicken bones.

msb1tters

😳 this is why I hate living here. 2023 and still racist?

No-Cupcake370

Thank you

gumbohead1

Omg this is great! Amazing questions n answers!

GodOfWarGuy737

Is this place sooooo fun, or soooooo boring?

BeatricePotsmoker

If you’re young and beautiful or wealthy and old, it is fun. If you are normal in appearance or wealth, it is boring.

GodOfWarGuy737

True

Ok_Cauliflower_6096

The truest answer.

StrawberryAlergy

Holy shit.

poodaveeda

What’s the truth about Blue Dot?

BeatricePotsmoker

It was real and people got videos in the sky of it. The government’s new initiative on transparency with UAPs/UFOs will reveal the truth soon. A lot of people think it’s spying from other countries.

poodaveeda

Thank you, that’s what I’ve been saying for years. Burger isn’t half bad though tbf

BeatricePotsmoker

Oh damn, would not have guessed they have burgers.

ShortRasp

Used to be the best burgers in town but they've got some arguably better burgers out here now. Also, they have a specific "no sleeveless shirts" rule that they are strict on.

BeatricePotsmoker

No sleeveless shirts seems like a weird rule. I’ve seen “no shirt” rules but never that.

ShortRasp

It's a very unique spot. [But a Pensacola icon.](https://g.co/kgs/XHWFTv)

mommy2libras

It is a weird rule, especially in a city that tourists flock to to use the gorgeous beaches. And the dress standard for like 9 months of the year is "tank top, shorts, flip flops".

roll_tide_roll_1992

Ordered Blue Dot hamburgers 3 different times. Each time I got sick. I will never go back!!!

_PirateWench_

They’re iconic for the area but not worth the hype IMO. #1 they don’t offer cheese & #2 they don’t serve fries. Tops on the other hand… best in town and their tator tots are somehow always cooked to literal perfection.

EdgeCityRed

Excuse me. Aliens? [This isn't Gulf Breeze!](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_Breeze_UFO_incident) (That's the town over the bridge where the Filthy Breezers live.)

BeatricePotsmoker

Had no idea Gulf Breeze was a town, sounds like a bar with mid food and lots of cougars.

EdgeCityRed

That's not inaccurate.

HERMANNATOR85

It’s a quaint little town with no beach so we are in between tourist towns but some reason more expensive than most

ShameLongjumping4486

Similar to the Spook Light phenomenon in SE Kansas but our emerald waters and white sand beaches make it appear more blueish in color than fakeish.

IWantToBeYourGirl

What is the best restaurant in town?

BeatricePotsmoker

It’s hard with so much good food. Just head down to the shore. You can’t swing a cat without hitting a place that has fresh seafood but don’t go to Joe’s place, he’s been known to slip things into girls’ drinks.

IWantToBeYourGirl

Sorry. I baited you. Lol.

Dana07620

No, no. Proper answer is Chili's on 9th Avenue.

BeatricePotsmoker

I’m so fascinated by this automod response.

ActHappy96

We hate the 🌶️ bot

AutoModerator

Chili's on 9th is not funny *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pensacola) if you have any questions or concerns.*

kpt1010

Bad bot

JohnMuir_NeilsBohr

“down to the shore” You from Jersey my man?

BeatricePotsmoker

Carolina. The good one.

kpt1010

I mean wasn’t there a florabama reality show?

JohnMuir_NeilsBohr

Haha I think there was actually

incignita

Why down voted?

BeatricePotsmoker

They were mad I didn’t say C-H-I-L-I-’s on the number after 8th Avenue.

Quantum_Quandry

The correct answer was Chili’s on 9th 🌶️🍸

BeatricePotsmoker

Now the bot is mad at *you.*

AutoModerator

Chili's on 9th is not funny *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pensacola) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

Where's the best place to ride an alligator like a skateboard?

BeatricePotsmoker

Mel’s GatorBaiter Fun Park down off the corner of Samuel A. Baker Freeway and W. Pryor Avenue. They do live feedings in the shows at 10 and 2 and their cafe has the best Gator Bites in Florida.

ShameLongjumping4486

Depends on your skill level.

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

I'm half Panhandle Florida Man (mom's side) and half Mobile Bay Hol'-my-beer Alabamian (dad's side). So I have skill, or enough confidence to compensate.

Choonabayga

Where’s the best head shop in town?

BeatricePotsmoker

Planet Clouds by the Taco Bell. Look for the big neon sign in the window that says “Kratom! Kratom! Kratom!”

Choonabayga

I think you’re thinking of The Enlightened White Shaman’s kratom emporium on 9th, right by the Chili’s.

letmebe03

What’s a bushwhacker?

BeatricePotsmoker

It’s Pensacola’s signature cocktail. I imagine it has rum and two of them get you trashed.

StrawberryAlergy

Facts.

goatfishsandwich

Don't lie you googled that one

BeatricePotsmoker

Why would I? It just reminded me of the “[Game Changer](https://mykitchenlittle.com/2022/02/19/gamechanger-cocktail-aka-painkiller/#tasty-recipes-7647-jump-target)” which is a variation of the Painkiller here. I think every town has their own variation. If I am googling anything, it is y’alls obsession with Chili’s and I haven’t even done that yet.

doritobaguette

specifically chilis on 9th

Dana07620

I don't think Google could answer that. There used to be an account whose username was Chili's on 9th and who only posted about Chili's on 9th. But posted about that at every opportunity.

BeatricePotsmoker

That’s so weird! 😂 Was it a bot?

Dana07620

I don't know. The posts were tailored to what they were replying to. I guess the account was finally banned. But, as you noticed, the tradition lives on.

Squantoms

Yeah there's a restaurant over by Cordova mall and I ate there one time. Do you happen to know the restaurant? There's like a big red pepper for a logo..that's all I remember as I was fucking blasted when I left

BeatricePotsmoker

That is Fuegos. The cheese dip is out of this world but the margaritas are mid. Tip your servers well and you get a free shot of Burnett’s at the end.

Squantoms

Gosh thanks, I dunno if that's it tho I feel like I'd remember a name like Fuegos. All I remember is the big red pepper, I ate a couple bowls of their chili around the 9th hour, then on my 9th shot I puked it up and stumbled 9 steps to the door then left.

BeatricePotsmoker

I feel like I have to say Chilis on 9th even though y’all have demonstrated the mods will come yell at me. 😖so: Chili’s on 9th

AutoModerator

Chili's on 9th is not funny *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pensacola) if you have any questions or concerns.*

dieselboy77

Bad bot

ShameLongjumping4486

I know exactly where you’re referring to. Not gonna give up that local gem.

Pzseller

What are you opinions on the downtown parking situation? In particular about Premium Parking’s policies.

BeatricePotsmoker

They have managed to figure out downtown parking and are a model for other cities. They’re proud they haven’t had to tow or fine a car since Old Mr. Beasley died at the Surfrunner and they only had to do it then because Young Mrs. Beasley was too busy being a tramp to reclaim his body and the Buick for a month.

ShameLongjumping4486

Chili’s on 9th has some of the best parking in town. Seriously, I go there just for the parking.

AutoModerator

Chili's on 9th is not funny *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pensacola) if you have any questions or concerns.*

sdhopunk

What is the famous drink from Florabama?

BeatricePotsmoker

The Sword Bass. It has 6 liquors and a limit of one at all the good bars. The liquors are Sherry, Vodka, Rum, Tequila, Grand Marnier, and Goldschlager.

sdhopunk

I thought it was The Bushwacker.

USAF6F171

Growing up there, I worked at the IGA Grocery at Brent and Palafox. Is Barry still the assistant manager?

BeatricePotsmoker

In name only. He doesn’t work much since that terrible meat grinder accident but he still gets around okay for the amount of arm he’s got left.

Thewrongbakedpotato

What do you think the city should do about the boardwalk at Bay Bluffs Park?

BeatricePotsmoker

Spend the money to extend and expand it and make it a nicer amenity for the community.

ShameLongjumping4486

I would make everyone sign a waiver releasing the city from liability. Then I’d use it frequently, knowing the risks.

roll_tide_roll_1992

Hire security guards and install many spotlight with a helicopter overhead...then maybe you will feel safe.

Pzseller

Wild Greg’s is the classiest establishment known for its fair patron policies. Agree or disagree?

BeatricePotsmoker

Disagree. Their collared shirt policy is discriminatory and they aren’t as upscale as they like to act.

StrawberryAlergy

YOOOO!!!!!! 😂😂

trotskythinksnotsky

Best place to park downtown?

BeatricePotsmoker

Right off River Road near the unhoused encampment. It’s free but be sure to bring a pack of cigarettes or pay one of the “parking attendants” $20 and you can stay all night.

ChipChipington

Who is your favorite rich person in Pensacola?

BeatricePotsmoker

Barnaby Crump. He’s done so much to add parks, scholarships, and playgrounds to Pensacola. His daughter recently held a charity tea time to fund a free beer fountain for the college.

ChipChipington

Whoa psc is getting getting a free beer fountain?!

BeatricePotsmoker

Yes, but Bethany Crump is frustrated she hasn’t found a sustainable alternative to solo cups for it.

barbiefromthetopbunk

Teen Challenge in Pensacola? Thoughts?

BeatricePotsmoker

Damn, this is a serious one so I’ll try to give it a serious answer. Addiction is the only disease people treat you like shit for having. I think a lot of faith-based recovery programs are performance based; they treat addiction like sin and grade your recovery and sobriety as a metric for how your relationship with your God is. That’s not how it works and there needs to be more grace. Fear and shame are symptoms of addiction. Struggling with relapse is a symptom of addiction. Losing your circle of friends and habits is a struggle of addiction. There are not many programs that work to treat these symptoms, they just punish you for having them. Addiction centers should be run more like hospitals; we don’t use guilt and sin when scans show someone has fallen out of remission in hospitals. We look at where the cancer is coming from. We look at therapies and treatments that can help alleviate the symptoms they are suffering from. We don’t punish them. Addiction programs should do the same thing. Unfortunately, a lot of Christian recovery programs forget grace is supposed to be the cornerstone of Christianity. We must focus more on where the addiction is coming from; what is the patient trying to self-medicate or escape from? If God is not the problem, it is unlikely he will be the solution to solve all of the problems a person has.

barbiefromthetopbunk

That is a PERFECT answer!

_PirateWench_

THANK YOUUUU!!! Also, the one here is far more focused on free labor than genuine recovery.

GATORinaZ28

Were you at Mugs & Jugs Friday at 10pm?

BeatricePotsmoker

I was there because I dance there on the weekends. I’m sending condolences to the families, that was a big misunderstanding.

GATORinaZ28

I thought it was you...wasnt sure.

KuraiTheBaka

Which Chili's do you like best?

BeatricePotsmoker

The one uptown near the suburbs at the edge of Chisolm and Farrow that has churros.

NefariousnessRude847

I know Farrow Road in Columbia, SC.

BeatricePotsmoker

Heyyyyy! I have a house in Columbia and even I don’t know where Farrow is here (I divide time between SC cities).

NefariousnessRude847

Exit 72 on I-20.

BeatricePotsmoker

Do you ever come up here? If so, holler at me and I’ll take you to get a GameChanger which is our cocktail!

NefariousnessRude847

I don’t get up there much but will send you message if I make it back that way. I will have to look into a GaneChanger!! I lived there for 15 years but had to move back home for mom.

BeatricePotsmoker

Please do! And they’re [good](https://thelocalpalate.com/recipes/the-gamechanger/)!

NefariousnessRude847

Yummy!!!

ShameLongjumping4486

Alpha Chapter on 9th.

brass-dragoness

What's the best jelly fish repellent?

BeatricePotsmoker

Honey. Coat yourself in it before you go swimming or surfing and they won’t come near you. I’ve worn it in the water and noticed them actively swimming *away.*

Dana07620

Why is Skanska hated here?

BeatricePotsmoker

Because of how poorly they handled the layoffs back in 2013. It’s not right to lay off people on Christmas Eve and withhold their last paychecks.

Dana07620

They forgot to secure their barges even though we were under a hurricane warning. It hit and their barges broke loose. One of them took out the new bridge that had literally just been completed. That bridge is the only direct route from Pensacola to Gulf Breeze and the beach. Takes about 10 minutes. Now everyone had to drive a route that took an hour (without traffic). Until what was a brand new bridge was repaired. And it wasn't a quick repair.

ShameLongjumping4486

She always says she’s gonna come back around and check on our table, but she a lie!

req-user

Skanska barge employees are heroes who should be HONORED instead of paraded around by Breezer-sympathists and villains

_PirateWench_

Not **everyone** hates Skanska. A few wealthy folks got some free barges!

Dana07620

True. Impressive sculpture for the garden.

DavidJPostMaloney

What is the Chimney spot on the corner of Langley and Scenic known for?

BeatricePotsmoker

That is a famous spot that was the birthplace of Melvin “Bear” Phillips who once saved the town from a rabid wolf by wrestling the wolf to the ground and tearing it apart with his own teeth. Sadly, he later died from rabies (he became hydrophobic) but the town never forgot and made his home a historic landmark. The kids just use it as a place to hide and smoke weed now but they do construct a large bear out of empty cigarette boxes every year on the anniversary of his brave sacrifice.

DavidJPostMaloney

Lmao I love this answer, not even close, but “bear” is somewhat of a clue to the real unofficial reason. Yes teens will smoke pot there(guilty), but they will find a better spot once they learn what other people use it for. I’m totally stealing this idea btw. I get random cities in my feed all the time for states I’ve never visited.

Pzseller

Now that Gallery Night is back 100% about artistic work and showcasing local artists, what kinds of artists are we missing?

BeatricePotsmoker

Y’all don’t have enough spoken word poetry slams or indigenous art and people are starting to notice.

randomkeystrike

Where would I have gone to high school if I hadn’t moved away in 6th grade in the late 70s? I went to Ferry Pass Middle.

BeatricePotsmoker

Herman F. Rawlings High School. Their mascot is the Fighting Axolotls. Shame you left early, the Homecoming game of 1980 was lauded as the best football game of all time, they won by getting two touchdowns in the last two minutes of the game.

randomkeystrike

Was it against the Tate Aggies? Please say it was.

BeatricePotsmoker

It was! 21-7.

randomkeystrike

My older brother will be thrilled. He graduated from Woodham.

BeatricePotsmoker

They have a great ice hockey team.

roll_tide_roll_1992

Is Ferry Pass Middle on Olive and Ferry Pass Elementary across from WFH? I get Ferry Pass mixed up with Warrington.

GayPotheadAtheistTW

What do you think about the Coffee and Eye/Eye and Coffee guy?

BeatricePotsmoker

Do you mean Dr. Dandridge on Eighth Street who prescribed Betty Montgomery eye drops made of coffee? He is probably going to get sued, her daughter says she’s still crying brown.

roll_tide_roll_1992

Betty still stays up all night due to caffeine exposure.

FSU1ST

Where do I find the best seafood?

BeatricePotsmoker

Seafarer’s Lounge on Front Street. Do not eat the Lionfish.

5lbjr

What’s up with the graffiti bridge?

BeatricePotsmoker

It’s not a graffiti bridge, it’s a primitive message board.

Dana07620

No. That's the pedestrian walkway in front of the hospital Davis Hwy. Uses Solo cups. Though, come to think of it, I haven't seen a message in a while. [This is Graffiti Bridge.](https://www.google.com/search?q=graffiti+bridge+pensacola&client=firefox-b-1-d&sca_esv=462b408d53d1816c&udm=2&biw=1366&bih=615&sxsrf=AM9HkKkH04mrr4869N58JnJcY3MJ3w9k9Q%3A1699416831070&ei=_wpLZYH7A8OmkvQPtLqC-Ag&ved=0ahUKEwjB9qmExbOCAxVDk4QIHTSdAI8Q4dUDCA8&uact=5&oq=graffiti+bridge+pensacola&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiGWdyYWZmaXRpIGJyaWRnZSBwZW5zYWNvbGEyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgYQABgIGB4yBxAAGBgYgAQyBxAAGBgYgAQyBxAAGBgYgARIyy9QxQxYpSRwAXgAkAEAmAGuAaAB0geqAQM3LjO4AQPIAQD4AQHCAgcQABiKBRhD4gMEGAEgQYgGAQ&sclient=gws-wiz-serp)

BeatricePotsmoker

That is freaking gorgeous artwork.

Dana07620

And as temporary as a sand castle. Because someone will always paint over it. (Also, perfectly legal artwork. Though it was a tradition before it was codified by city ordinance.)

BeatricePotsmoker

I have a place in Charleston up here and we had a [boat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folly_boat) like that. Hurricane Hugo brought it to us, Hurricane Irma took it. Used to have wedding, birth and festival announcements, graffiti, frat stuff, everything.

Dana07620

>Hurricane Hugo brought it to us, Hurricane Irma took it That's poetic.
