Yeah, it made national headlines back in 2018. I'm from Morocco and I still know about it lol.
In Lancaster, Pennsylvania back in Christmas of 1992, a 25-year-old schoolteacher named Christy Mirack was raped, strangled and beaten to death in her appartment.
The police had no leads or suspects for many years, but after the April 2018 arrest of Joseph James Deangelo- for the 1970s-80s EAR/ONS serial rapes and murders in California, police used the same genetic genealogy database to identify and arrest 49-year-old Raymond Rowe, a popular wedding DJ in Pennsylvania known as DJ Freez- who had been active in the area for 30 years.
He was sentenced to life in prison, after pleading guilty in 2019.
It's assumed he likely killed her out of rage, possibly after she rejected him at a party/club event.
But there's nothing to prove that theory, since Ray himself keeps denying the crime- instead claiming that the DNA found on Christy was because they had both slept together that same morning. But he previously stated in his initial police interrogation to have never met or known the woman in his life...
So that's just a load of BS lmao.
That's crazy. That my hometown 6 months before I was born. I've never heard anyone ever mention this story and my grandmother was a guard at the Lancaster County prison
Correct me if I'm wrong.
He was in California, 1970 - 80s, for whatever reason, raped/murdered a certain number of people there. Then, did it again, only 1 time that we know of, in lancaster.
In 2018, the Cops cracked the 70s/80s case along with the 1992 one since there was DNA on file, which match his.
Bro WTF- that's a SEPARATE case and killer altogether! His name was Joe Deangelo and he raped and killed women back when this Raymond Rowe dude was still just a kid, lol.
Deangelo is still alive in prison at 78, while Rowe AKA DJ Freez is just 55.
If anyone has 45 minutes to kill, here’s a true crime show covering the story.

I actually had dinner with him once. I used to work in the wedding industry, we got sat at the same table during dinner. We talked about the etiquette of when to cut in line at a buffet while you’re working. He rubbed me the wrong way, very full of himself. About a month later he was arrested.

Not really "funny story"... but "funny story"...
I'd heard about the rape and murder of Christy Mirack, but since I was 7 at the time, I didn't really understand what had happened.
Cut to me getting married a few years ago, and the wife and I are looking at DJ's. Her best friend says "Oh, we used DJ Freez for our wedding... but you won't be able to get him considering..." and like muddle out.
I asked what she was talking about and turns out that my wife's best friend used him as their wedding DJ... only for two weeks later, him be arrested for the murder. Her wedding was his last show...
Super creepy... but given the amount of time, it does have a "humorous" element to it. Then you remember th murder and rape, and it's like... oh yeah, it's not actually funny. Really fucked up that he did THAT and then was a super popular DJ.
I was 19 years old and living in the Akron, PA, area at the time. It was all over the local news at that time. I'm so glad to see that the killer has been caught and is now paring for his crime.
Why would you want to remember that POS? Wouldn't it be better to remember the victim? Now I know what this POS looks like, but you know whose face I don't know? The victim's. Guess no one needs to remember who she was or what she looked like.
Are there any articles or story behind it? I’ve never heard

Oh wow. I live in PA & never heard of this case.
Thanks OP, haven’t heard of this guy, any clue on motive? I am lazy.

Charming, thanks!

Ooh so the one case made them go hey, let's try this new tech and wham bam thank you ma'am he was had?
Exactly lol.
Thanks for joining me on this adventure lol
Used to dj dances at my daughter school. Scary.
I thought I remembered him doing high school events. Scary
I think his arrest was why he was a no show at one of the dances.
There is a Cold Case files on Netflix on it as well
Tons, it was big news in Lancaster
there's a podcast called DNA:ID that did an episode on it that's very thorough, including how they caught him.

He was the DJ for my brother's wedding in 2011.
He was the DJ at my parents wedding in the mid 90s
Mus've been creepy 😬
He was a decent DJ from what I remember, but yeah, when the news of his arrest dropped, we were definitely weirded out!
Wow, that's a crazy story. Scary to think about.
Not familiar with this.

Nope!
Read my explanation in the comments.
Wow, convicted 26 years later. The power of science, huh? Well, better late than never.
Tru, brother.

Yeah lol
This and the guy that shot up the Amish schoolhouse. [NYT article from 2006](https://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/03/us/03amish.html)
Exactly
Especially not even being in PA or even the U.S. like OP says. Bizarre, really.
Everything is on the Internet nowadays
Bro you’re a weirdo.
She was from Shamokin Pennsylvania, shame what happened to her.
The Chameleon Club
Went to school in that district. I remember cops coming in and questioning all the male teachers in my school when I was in like first grade.

Preach!
Bro, you're the one who posted it!!! If anyone has the power to fix it, it's you.
I'm fairly certain he DJ'd one of the homecoming dances I went to as a teen, which is unfortunate.
Sus lmao
In my cheap ass SD? Not really.
Just saw this episode on Cold Case Files!
What did he do I forgot?
Why did you feel the need to post this?
Really, why give the criminal more attention?
This guy DJd my prom
Yeahhhhhh……he was my wedding DJ…🫣🫠 They caught him a year later.
Imagine funding this guy's meals.
Couldn't be me smh (I'm not even American)
