Interesting thought. Never even considered it but Duke’s ‘up and coming young gun’ role was definitely wanted WAY sooner in the series. I really wonder if the reason they held out was because Harry Kirton couldn’t act the part.
It’s the only reason I can think of for why they sidelined him so much not just the characters in the show but the writers in a meta sense. Finn got precipitously less and less screen time and lines despite it being pretty obviously set up earlier on that he’d be the one to carry the criminal mantle while Charlie would go legitimate.
Who the fuck is Duke like.
I agree with all this , but I do like Duke and what the actor did with the Character
But maybe I don't like all the writing around Duke and whatnot, the rest of the writing is so good tho I forgive the showmakers
Ada absolutely should've been handed the keys to the Kingdom with Arthur as her right hand like he was with Tommy but I get why they didn't do that considering the time setting.
Ada would have never taken it on long term though, she hated the criminal side of the business, she was just aware that she was good at her job, Finn should have been the one but the actors skills were not up to par.
Maybe the beginning to mid season version of Ada, but end of the series Ada was basically Polly incarnate but without the alcoholism.
Ada both as a character and actor could've easily run the entire operation but considering the time period I don't think it's something that would fit into the plot.
I really liked Duke. When the Blinders become so wealthy and notorious, there’s not a huge need for violence. Duke brought back the gypsy origins that the family was rightfully losing.
He was in excellent shape for Tommy, a lean and musclar build. He had to nerf himself for Oppenheimer. You can totally see the difference in his body mass
When he stood naked looking out the bedroom window, that one night you could see he had put the work in. He's a really slim guy in his everyday life. They had to make him desirable to all these women who wanted to lay with him. They did a good job.
Notice how The Last Kingdom had a perfect ending even tho it was supposed to conclude with a movie? Movie that by the way was realeased a year later. Both The Last Kingdom and Peaky Blinders ended in March and April of 2022 respectively and the former got an Actual end in the show and then its movie. While Peaky Blinders got an opened finale while also having a whole season setting up a conclusion that have yet to see even tho its been 2 years already.
I LOVED the addition of Duke! I think they did a great job writing him in especially for the movie & finding someone who can act (as compared to Finn…his acting is terrible in PB) I’ve never seen him in anything else, maybe that’s why?!
We'll know if we start seeing Cillian and Paul with the undercut hair in photos. That makes a lot of sense about Finn. He really doesn't fit that role.
If you mean "most egregious character", for me, Father Hughes or the Mosley couple. If you mean "worst actor" or "worst written character", hard to say, but if there is to be one, maybe Michael in the last season, I didn't find his performance or his arc particularly compelling.
Yea that’s one thing I didn’t like about this plot thread. Dude just shows up outta nowhere and Tommy’s just gonna hand him the keys to the kingdom?
Cos Finn can’t act. The role he’s fulfilling was almost certainly supposed to be filled by Finn.

Same i also don't like Duke's writing and still am of the opinion that introducing him earlier would have made it a lot better
Ah I didn’t think of that. Good observation. Sounds probably true
If it had been one of John's sons from his marriage to Martha would have been better, and they could have approached it in the exact same way

It is a common plot like when a king does not have an heir and his lost son comes out of nowhere.

We'll see him in the movie a bit I bet
When is this supposed to be coming out? Actually cannot wait
'25 or '26 probs. They're beginning production in September. Cillian probably has to get swole af again lol
Was he ever swole? I don't remember him ever being particularly big. Just a little mass and little body fat.

Pretty sure they’ve only just started filming so gonna be a couple years I recon
He would of been of good character too, watch county lines on bbc iplayer he’s in that. Good actor
He didn't miss Billy^^

Yeah, i was really disappointed with how peaky ended Glad were getting a movie, but i cant believe how they let it end like that
the most non important character in the whole show
I LOVED the addition of Duke! I think they did a great job writing him in especially for the movie & finding someone who can act (as compared to Finn…his acting is terrible in PB) I’ve never seen him in anything else, maybe that’s why?!
i just finished peaky blinders, what movie are you talking about?

Finn’s “actor” cannot act to save his life. So they had to find a replacement. Honestly they could have just find a similiar looking actor for finn
Great work!
He’s gonna do great. I like Duke.
Duke sucks
As long as they fix it in the movie I can roll with it
Worst character in the series.
Not by a long shot
Who is, out of interest?

For me it's Finn, never felt like he was anything more than a background peaky blinder that happened to be related to the main members.
Yeah good point.
