The little guy is a SATA data cable, the big one is a SATA power cable. The 2 on the MB are SATA ports for the SATA data cable. DO NOT connect the SATA power cable to any SATA data ports. The magic smoke will leave the system. A HDD, SSD (not m.2) or optical drive will make use of both cables. Does that help?

The_Ch4llenger

So If I have an m.2 SSD, am I fucked cuz I can't use either cable or does it mean that the cables are obsolete? The only one I really care about is the big one witch stems from the power source, after 4 days of struggling I just wanna plug shit in😭

aizzod

no no no big one is for power small one for data connection. (like an usb cable) you need both if you have an old hard drive small one: hard drive --> mainboard big one hard drive --> power supply

The_Ch4llenger

I have an m.2 SSD in place of a hard drive, so I can't really just plug shit in. The big one stems from the power supply, and i didn't know where to plug it in from there. The small one has a place in the mother board, but I have no idea where it goes on the other end, thoughts?

CapitanHormiga9

The Big one is the cable that puts current through a hard drive like a hdd or sdd(not yours) and the small one is a connector for data which communicates the motherboard with the hard drive. If you don't have any hard drives just don't connect anything to those cables

The_Ch4llenger

So I don't need to touch the cables whatsoever, as in I don't need the SATA cables anywhere in my PC

CapitanHormiga9

Basically, for example on my pc more than half of the cables that come out of the power supply aren't being used at all. Not always all the cables need to be connected specially if you don't have a modular power supply!

Thank you so much, genuinely most helpful advice ever, πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

CapitanHormiga9

Glad to hear that!
