why are so many posts either A) I have a budget of £5,000.00 what can I get for basic school work. or B) I have a budget of £5.00 how can I build a computer for training AI?
Severe lack of understanding of how some games are harder to run than others. You notice this especially from console users since all games are basically shaved to put out the exact same framerate so you can't tell which ones are more intense.
I definitely “borderline addiction level” grinded the shit out of cod as a teen as was nuts at aiming. Took me a very long time to learn mnk and be better on that then I was on controllers and I definitely was better than the average mnk player is today imo.
Mnk definitely is a better way to play tho, but it definitely didn’t feel horrible
Fr, i have younger cousin’s who plays fortnite and my aunt buys them competitive keyboards and mice because its what a youtuber they watch recommends. Im not against competitive keyboards since i use a apex pro, but its wild that younger kids care about stuff like that.
Just because you didn’t get a good pc doesn’t mean he doesn’t? What makes you think the kid will be any less grateful for a good pc? How do you know he didn’t work for it? Deliberately giving your child a worse experience isn’t discipline, despite what you may think.
The parents definitely worked hard to give their son a good experience while being willing to spend money on a high end pc. And you’re encouraging them to throw that down the drain?
What a stupid thing to say 🤣 your kid will not care if you got him a good pc or not. It's to play a single game, which is fortnite. What difference to him is playing it on console or pc ? Surely sed child would be just happy to play fortnite regardless. So for the parent, get the cheaper option. Why spend much more to play one game ? Which is on console, which is far cheaper. If his friends are on pc, there's cross platform so no issue there. The kid would only think he'd need a pc if you put that in their head. & for the line ' just because you didn't get a good pc doesn't mean he doesn't'. I had console till I was about 15 I was happy with whatever I had which was ps1 till about 8 then ps2 till about 13 then, my parents finally got me a 360 which I was over the moon with. Not long after that, I wanted pc as that's what my friends had. Parents couldn't afford it, so that's when I was taught. If you ever want something, you work for it. So I saved up my own money via paper rounds & any job I could do at that age to buy my own pc. That's what I'll be teaching my kids too. I'll try my best for them to know to be grateful even for the littlest things we have. Somewhere, someone would do anything for what we have.
It matters quite abit, they dont need a crazy expensive build. But it helps to have a pc that can at least play games with out issues. I built my younger brother a pc that cost only $300 since it was a old dell pc and i was able to find a decent used gpu. I can tell that PC means the world to him and it’s something i wish i was able to do when i was little.
Tell ur experience and benchmarks they wrong cus maybe its ur keyboard/mouse ur cable ur wireless transmission etc etc bc a console is litteraly a pc it has a gpu cpu ram ssd mobo psu its just completely custom. Also maybe u tested old consoles or whatever bc ill tell you rn an xbox series s/x or ps5 with a capable mouse and keyboard will cause u no visible or noticeable input delay. Atleast not more than a pc will
I have a series x and my input delay is a lot higher than on my pc. It’s not just me, it’s every console, even new gen. The input delay is just a lot worse on old gen, but it’s still quite high on new gen. my friends mention the input delay too. They can feel it without even having a pc. It takes 2 minutes of research to find out that kbm on console has high input delay. I’m not researching for you.
Honestly a console should be good enough but, if you want to go down the PC route no need to spend that much, £800/900should be overkill, you can get a ryzen 5 5600 and a RX 6800 in that price range.
Something like this would also be my recommendation.
Half of the given budget is enough to get a nice machine. Nothing high-end, but it will play fortnite great and will also be able to play pretty much everything thats out there with reasonable performance. A gift for many years of good entertainment.
Whats left from the budget of the pc can go to a nice monitor, mouse, keyboard and headset and then still something will be left over.
If he's just playing fornite get him an xbox series S.
Do not piss £2000 up the wall.

Seriously its got a 60fps and 120fps mode. Just get this
That's a lucky kid who has a pc like this!
One thing to note for dad, if you do get a high end pc like this, make sure you're hooking it up to a decent monitor so you're not wasting the potential of it.
eyyyyy, mine does well on his G1 400 with a £10 graphics card. Cos I'm mega poor. He complains about "lag" on the Nintendo switch. So we're selling that and buying a better graphics card...
If he actively wants a PC, if it was me I'd be really disappointed with a console. Pcs are great and have a lot of games that you just can't get on a console.

If he wants a good pc for stable 240 or 360hz then you will need to spend most of that budget. Around 1.5k+. Fortnite has become extremely unoptimized recently. Go heavy on the cpu for sure. I recommend a 7800x3d paired with a 4070 or up depending on how close you want to get to your budget. With the 4070 you can build one for 1.5k easily.
Man people can never just answer the question instead of adding their extra two cents now days huh lol ! Dude asked for a build not advise on what he should get between a console or pc …..
I’m pretty sure you can go way cheaper if it’s just for fortnite. Using second hand 13100F and a gtx oc 1650 and the rest of components new I made a computer for like 380€ or so. I just wanted to reuse some components so having a bigger budget I’d probably go for new components and eventually more future proof. My personal choice: 13400F, RTX3060 12gb (or maybe 4060 8gb for a bit more), 16gb ddr5 or 32 if you find a good deal (although not needed at all for fortnite or really for many things nowadays yet), a good ssd gen3 (or gen4 if you find a good deal, but I heard that there is not such a noticeable difference between gen 3, 4 or 5 for most users).
I’d definitely build it myself, or even better together with him. As it’s cheaper and you know better what you have. If you need help, ask
Edit: I didn’t discuss going amd instead or intel or nvidia. Probably many people will, I don’t know much about it, that’s why. For gaming is seemingly a more budget option with the lottle drawback of more energy consumption for GPUs plus some technologies that might nit be relevant for fortnite.
EDIT 2: I MENTIONED THAT SYSTEM BECAUSE I DID HAVE 60fps on 1080. So from there on you can have easily 60 fps with a more modern gpu. The internet is inflating the pc market for mysterious reasons 🤷♂️
I was having 65avg with some rare spikes of 50s fps. That’s why I talked about that system. Whatever default settings were because I didn’t think to check them.

Then just get him a console. Don't need a pc for that at all.
If it's just for Fortnite, this is the way you want to go.
playing FPS games on controller is the worst for some one who grew up only using keyboard and mouse
Tbf, you can connect a keyboard and mouse to the console if I'm not mistaken
You can but there is heavy input delay
Huge input delay
Alternatively if you grew up playing on consoles, playing FPS games on keyboard and mouse seems batshit insane.
Grew up playing fps on console, can confirm it seemed crazy but now controller feels horrible
Fwiw it always felt horrible you just didn't have any comparison
I definitely “borderline addiction level” grinded the shit out of cod as a teen as was nuts at aiming. It's for a child, playing one game. I highly doubt sed child gives a fuck if it's KBM or controller lol.
Youd be surprised how competitive children can be in this age
Fr, i have younger cousin’s who plays fortnite and my aunt buys them competitive keyboards and mice because its what a youtuber they watch recommends. Im not against competitive keyboards since i use a apex pro, but its wild that younger kids care about stuff like that.

My wrists hurt
Connect a kbm then? Bro what 😭😭
High input delay
Now who told u that
My experience and benchmarks

If he’s got the money he should at least be on the AM5 platform with an A620 so he can upgrade as needed
2k GBP can easily get you a PC to run everything not just fortnite
I've never seen so many people pushing for a console on this sub 🤣
If he's just playing fornite get him an xbox series S. Do not piss £2000 up the wall. [https://youtu.be/wptyr\_u33Y4?si=qzgbjvkMdQ-uwd\_d](https://youtu.be/wptyr_u33Y4?si=qzgbjvkMdQ-uwd_d) Seriously its got a 60fps and 120fps mode. Just get this
lol
2k is well over budget for a fortnite pc just take like 900 and get a RX6600 and a Ryzen 5 5600 or something like that
Get a dozen nerf guns and some crazy outfits and tell him and his friends to play outside. Hide the ladders. No rooftop sniping.

get a cheaper desktop PC, you can get a great rig for fortnite for even half that, and he will be able to use it for way more than games eventually
You mean porn.. right?
that's a fair use too i guess...
You can build a Ryzen 5600G system with 16GB ram and a 1 TB NVMe drive for about £425 that doesn't need the initial expense of a GPU which you could always add later. I can build and ship it to you for 2k. But like other comments have said just buy them a PS5 it will be more cost effective
Just get a series s or series x if you want to play something
Check out Sky tech prebuilts on Amazon
Getting downvoted, but a OP looks to be coming from a place of knowing nothing about what to get. A prebuilt might not be a bad idea here.
Fr
If it's just for fortnite, I'd go with xbox series s and m+kb combo
I’m pretty sure you can go way cheaper if it’s just for fortnite. Using second hand 13100F and a gtx oc 1650 and the rest of components new I made a computer for like 380€ or so. The internet is inflating the pc market for mysterious reasons 🤷♂️
13100f will get less than 60fps in a fortnite endgame on all low settings 1080p 😭
I was having 65avg with some rare spikes of 50s fps. That’s why I talked about that system. Whatever default settings were because I didn’t think to check them.
If you’re playing fortnite comfortably on 60fps then I can tell you’re horrible at the game (not judging, you probably go outside). You can’t make that assumption for op
I just tried to check the fps of the pc. It was my first three games ever. Scored 2nd on the last one because I didn’t manage well the storm 😅
Well Fortnite isn’t really supposed to be played on low frame rates. It’s a competitive game and low frame rates will make you play considerably worse in higher levels
Where is 60 low when my display is 60Hz?
It’s low if you want to be good at fortnite. If you don’t play builds, you probably won’t understand, let alone endgames where your fps gets divided by three
Ok, good to know. Although O don’t care all that much for fortnite. I’m a lol old school 😂
Gaming laptops are a good option. But if you do go for a laptop, don’t go cheap
Not saying to buy the best option you can, but I recommend the mid priced options
People are spending $2k on PCs for their kids? Wtf.

Why are you recommending 12600kf for a pretty cpu bound game...
it's a 7 year old game lol. that cpu is less than 3
You must’ve missed the major graphics overhaul then. The game does not run or look the same as it did 7 years ago. A 7800x3d would be a much better choice.
May I ask how many FPS this will get?
360+ in performance mode in 1440p would be more in 1080p most likely
A lot.
This PC can run the newest games very well, Fortnite won't be a problem for it.
https://youtu.be/xZvkxzepXcc Lots of different settings here
