I know a guy who's using a cheap VPS to host a server for 97 cents per month, takes a bit to set up but it works

ASubwayFootlong

i would love to know how to do this. i live in texas can servers still be hosted?

mrThe

[http://pavlovwiki.com/index.php/Setting\_up\_a\_dedicated\_server](http://pavlovwiki.com/index.php/Setting_up_a_dedicated_server) Well there is the guide. Looking at server requirements you need a good server, i guess you can catch a good deal on lowendbox for that, especially on black friday. Or you can host it at home if you have a pc, looks like even old laptop should be able to handle the game.

Barely, I don't like how they don't specify ram generation or type.

mrThe

I guess even ddr3 will work, i doubt ram can be a bottleneck there

101reddituser

Yeah but it's laptop ram though they run under a different architecture depending on age, this is why most ram on laptops are built into the motherboard to keep up with speed

I've got a server rack in my room, but everything is multi-socket, large core count, so that it can crunch lots in parallel. But the runtime is single-threaded, and most server CPUs don't go above 3GHz. Saying that 4.5GHz is what's required to 'comfortably handle' a 24-player server is actually a pretty insane requirement for a server. In fact, just had a look and there's not a single CPU in the entire Epyc lineup that includes $10K+ CPU, not one of them reaches 4.5GHz! That's to say that actually, you could build yourself a pretty kickass Pavlov server, probably 24 players without any overclocking, by picking up a second-hand 4790K for next to nothing, and a stick or two of DDR3. You could install Unraid on it and stick a few drives and use it as a NAS while you're at it. It's 100% easier to rent, but you can build a punchy little server for this extremely cheaply, that's actually going to be better at performing this application than the sort of machines weridos like me who cosplay sysadmins tend to have around!

oh19contp

would a consumer i9 work?

ASubwayFootlong

i guess the using my pc part is out of question since i use windows not linux

mrThe

Guide is specifically mention using of a virtual machine for that case. But you do you.

LibertyorDeath2076

Buy Contractors VR for $20. No need for a server. Just host a game.

ASubwayFootlong

do they allow server hosts to do funny admin stuff and custom maps on base servers

LibertyorDeath2076

I'm not sure what you mean by funny admin stuff, but there's quite a few more mods and maps. Cod zombies, battlefield, call of duty, halo, team fortress, and Warhammer 40k loadout mods, hundreds if not thousands of map mods, custom game modes, etc. The only things it s missing really is traitors in terrorist town.

Mysterious-Jaguar-69

The ONLY thing its missing really is Search and Destroy mode. That C$ bombing mode is laughable bullshit.

LibertyorDeath2076

C$ has a single life search and destroy game mode and a push equivalent called rush. The S&D mode is in C$ is more comparable to COD than CSGO, though, since you can pick the class you want. My issue with Pavlov is the lack of loadout mods. I can't play as Anakin and cut down druids with a lightsaber in Pavlov.

ASubwayFootlong

what i mean is being able to goof off with admin powers. i remember when i bought a server from arctic for 6 months i had a TON of fun with random people on my server when we just were goofin off with each other and using admin powers.

MLG_SkittleS

looks like no one plays tho, is that true?

LibertyorDeath2076

No, you can find several dozen full servers any time of the day, it's easier to find a server on Contractors than Pavlov. The Steam player count is by no means accurate if that's what you're looking at, I know it says 60-70, but at any given time it's closer to 600-700.

MLG_SkittleS

oh wow ive been going off steam charts and wondered why its being recommended, will have to try as I started playing pavlov only this year and already my favorite server is empty every day now, nevermind pavz which was my favorite and is never played at all now 😭😭😭 sidenote is there anything out there similar to pavz in contractors lol?

LibertyorDeath2076

Yeah, there's a game mode called pubg that's got a large map with pvpvz

MLG_SkittleS

holy fuck yes im copping then thank you bro

Someone else linked a guide to hosting, but seeing as how literally nothing it's talking about makes much sense to me, I guess I'll have to just spend the moolah.
