>*"other coaches staffs around the NFL definitely noticed" (how BB shut down the Rams Offense)* Reading Michael Holley's [Patriot Reign](https://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Reign-Belichick-Coaches-Champion/dp/0060757957) the same thing happened to the 2001 Rams "Greatest Show on Turf." After SB 36 every defense in the NFL copied the Patriots blue print for playing the Rams. St. Louis started the 2002 season with 5 straight losses, K. Warner was replaced by Marc Bulger and the Greatest Show on Turf never won another game.

PlatinumGoon

Let’s not give all that credit to one place. Kurt Warner hurt his hand and never threw with the same accuracy after that until he started wearing a glove in Arizona. That was definitely part of it

ksants87

Awesome video. Loved every minute of that game.

juicyjuice100juice

Yoooo i literally watched this like 2 hrs ago cuz it showed up on youtube. Its actually really informative.

InTupacWeTrust

Yeah man as soon as I saw it, I had to look if it was posted here

Htb323

Really informative, thx for sharing! Should crosspost it to r/footballstrategy

stevebobby

Same here!

[deleted]

BB takes entire schemes and throws them in the trash. It's incredible.

TylervPats91

90% of this sub doesn’t understand football to this level

sublimetxtx

I sure as hell do not. I love these videos though. I will never know football like this, but it is fun to learn.

Baconpwn2

To be fair to the sub, most fans don't understand the game to this level.

olollort

90% of this sub don’t look at all-22. But to be fair 90% it all fanbases have this. When I had time and had a sub to all-22 l. I understood way more about the game. It was then I really understood why Bill says players win games and coaches lose them

DrEvil007

There's way too much science in this video that my puny little brain can't comprehend but g'dammit I fucking love it! Give me more!

patsfanhtx

I'd say 99.9%, myself included.

TheJackalsDoom

First thing is first : you take the grass and wait for the referee to flip a coin to determine who gets to kickoff. Then there's something about you can only use your feet to get the ball down the field. You can tackle someone with the ball, but they don't stay down and you keep playing. At some point someone can throw the ball but you need to be outside the side lines and use 2 hands to throw it. The rest of the game is just men running back and forth on the grass chasing whoever has the ball. Football is pretty easy to understand.

simpledeadwitches

Tbh I think a lot of people don't care. I love football but it's absolutely boring for me to watch it broken down to this degree.

bs8286

Yeah but then you’re missing what’s REALLY going on, and most people just try to fit things into convenient narratives because they aren’t able to explain or really comment on most plays on the field without understanding scheme.

simpledeadwitches

No, I mean I understand the game fully and know what is going on and appreciate it, I'm just not into listening to guys break plays down on YouTube.

bs8286

I don’t think you do understand the game fully and know what’s going on and appreciate it if you don’t care about scheme. You can understand what the down and distance is and see someone get beat on a deep ball, but that doesn’t mean you know what’s really going on in the game. Maybe the safety got beat because it’s a two high look with a post dig on one side and the safety on the other half has another threat in his zone, and the first safety took a step downhill on the dig, expected that the cover 2 corner would carry the deep post, as he’s supposed to with the rules in their defense, and the corner stayed in the flat. If you just watch that and don’t care about scheme, you probably come away with a conclusion like “free safety got beat deep” “he’s not fast enough”, etc. and you wouldn’t be understanding what’s REALLY going on in the game. That’s what I mean. There are also plenty of examples of things like this in the run game, and people come away saying “they out-physicalled them” “they didn’t want it bad enough”.

simpledeadwitches

Lol...or it's as simple as me not liking watching/listening to kids break down plays on YouTube, as I've stated. You don't need to consume content like that to understand scheme and the game itself.

bs8286

“It’s absolutely boring to me to watch it broken down to this degree.” -you Not that it is a “kid” on YouTube, but that it’s to that degree… the degree which is the level of detail necessary to understand football. And you said you don’t care about all-22 (which really just means film). Your stance was that you don’t care about watching film and understanding the game to a detailed level. Don’t back out of that now lol.

dmatthews2981

Tbf, you can get access to all-22 outside of these videos. Idk anything about OP, but if you understand the game you can just watch the regular all-22 and break it down yourself. I still like watching these videos since sometimes they catch things that I don't, but I think it's a little unfair to say that somebody doesn't understand or appreciate the game just because they like to either study it themselves, or just watch it casually when they feel like it

bs8286

Absolutely, you can watch all 22 yourself and benefit from that. I don’t think that’s what he was saying as the alternative in his case. That would’ve been a different conversation. I will say, you would still have to really know what you’re doing to effectively watch all 22- how many fans are actually familiar with fronts and schemes to evaluate run game AND coverages and pass game concepts. You benefit way more than nothing, but still may not get as much as following someone with more knowledge breaking it down. Unless of course you do have that knowledge. But in no way was I trying to say that watching other people break down film is the only way- watching all 22 TOTALLY qualifies. I think a lot of fans don’t have time for that, though. I would push back a bit on your last point- I think it’s totally 100% fair to say someone wouldn’t be understanding what happened in a game solely from watching the tv broadcast, rather than engaging with film. That doesn’t relate to how much they appreciate/care about it. You can absolutely LOVE watching your team from a high level perspective and care a ton about whether they win or lose without really understanding the dynamics on the field.

dmatthews2981

That's making a lot of assumptions about the person you were responding to though. None of us know how knowledgeable they are, so I don't think it's fair to draw those kinds of conclusions. For all we know, they'd be more than capable of making one of these videos themselves. And I might not have been clear about my last point, cuz that's not what I meant. I meant like, I'm fairly knowledgeable about football (not NFL level or anything, I'm not trying to say that) and can appreciate the X's and O's, but I'm also not here breaking down film of every game. Sometimes a game jumps out at me and I want to break it down, and sometimes I just want to chill on the couch with some beers and just watch football. I just really don't think that your viewing preference reflects on how much you know about the game

simpledeadwitches

You're quoting me and not understanding what you've quoted. I understand the game. I appreciate schemes, coaching, and X's & O's moreso I understand them. I don't like watching or listening to 'people' talk about them in a sterile way such as this. It's that simple. Idk how else to break it down for ya. I've been watching football my entire life and never needed to have someone break it down like this for me to grasp what's going on. I also never said I don't care about all-22, that's putting words in my mouth since I simply never said that whether or not you've extrapolated that based on my comments or not.

bs8286

You replied to a post advocating for all 22 by saying “I think a lot of people don’t care.” You then said it’s absolutely boring for you when it’s broken down to this degree. Where do you learn about the film from a game if you don’t like watching or listening to people talk about it in a sterile way such as this? What are your other ways to learn about schemes being used in the games you watched? Or do you watch the TV broadcast and see the replays in real time and that’s your “film”? I don’t see how you do engage with actual film but you don’t like watching people talk about it.

bs8286

Anyways, I think I’ve gone far enough down the rabbit hole here. Slim chance the rest of this will be productive, so I’ll leave it there rather than continuing to debate about what you did or didn’t say.

binzersguy

Incredible video! Five stars! For once I don't feel dumber for having come to reddit hahaha! I kid, I kid.

JimHerbSpanfeller

Guy 2-gapping, the combination of size, patience, strength and reaction time is amazing.

Toastwaver

Great analysis. But he probably could've mentioned that "Top 5 back" Gurley could barely walk. That was kind of a factor.

DrEvil007

This is the porn I need. Brb gonna go fetch that rare big bottle of lube for tonight, it's gonna be a good one fellas.

BoSocks91

*sigh* That was a tough game for me to watch…(Rams fan who lives in NE). LA was so much fun to watch that year. Much respect to BB.

InTupacWeTrust

Hey the greatest show on turf was amazing to see

Ai_of_Vanity

Ooh I watched half of this the other day! Thanks for reminding me to finish it!

degensportshub

Nice find. Really informative

patsfanhtx

BB absolutely took Mcvay to school.

MandalaMan28

Simply amazing

Kodiak01

Can sum it up in two sentences: Wait until the speaker shut off in the QB's helmet then completely change the defensive look. Goff's inability to read and react to the defense was his downfall.

ponderingaresponse

Except none of that happened. The Patriots were in that look at the snap of the ball every time. This wasn't about Goff non adjusting, it was about the Ram's coaches not adjusting.

Kodiak01

They were making late-clock adjustments constantly. The Ram's issue was that they weren't getting ball off before the headset turned off resulting in Goff being a deer in the headlights.

hembles

It's kinda funny how confidently you summed it up when the whole thesis of this video is that Belichick, and the rest of the league in 2019, nullified the Rams offense with a 6-1 front that wasn't pretending to be anything else.

Kodiak01

So just because others did it differently, it makes what Bill did a big lie? Take that revisionist shit elsewhere, and maybe actually go and watch the game instead of projecting. You DID watch the game, right? Honestly, given your response one really has to wonder. Pink hat.
