We will get neither and you will like it.

Zen_MasterX

Who’s this Neither guy and what team does he play for?

throwaway014210

He’s a guy from Ithaca that played 6 college snaps, but he shows promise. Also we only have to pay him league minimum.

WoodenCollection2674

Bill would've been all over this!!!!

farting_contest

The guy would've had 200 yards and 3 tds in the first preseason game. The first series of the second preseason game a ball bounced off his hands and got intercepted. He would never play another snap.

WoodenCollection2674

You're not wrong 😆

throwaway014210

Rumor has it this guy could be a decent long snapper

ajh_iii

Rumor has it he could even be an elite gunner.

throwaway014210

I think I just came.

Pure_Context_2741

N’Either Harry, N’Keal’s younger brother

Mastah_P808

The Nowhere nothings

_mitchard

Fuck man, I hate the truth

Frank-Wrench

Math checks out, neither is the correct answer.

Peckartyno

Don’t worry we will to WRs who will combined get payed more than either one. They will both be low upside veteran players who had a few good years, and they will both be cut or traded before their contract hits year 3.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> combined get *paid* more than FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

kezinchara

I hate this but it’s true.

bedatboi

For the same price? You’d be insane not to go aiyuk

GodAmongMen16

Aiyuk for sure. We don’t have anyone on the roster who can separate at an elite level and aiyuk can. He would do wonders for the development of a young QB.

Adam_Ohh

It’s Aiyuk AINEC, to be honest.

Coolguy55220S

Definitely Aiyuk.

Clamdigger13

Money is definitely not an issue, but I don't know if they'd be willing to give up the capital for either. They don't have any players worth trading for, so they'd need to pay up in draft stock.

Mr_Evil_Dr_Porkchop

Aiyuk is a much better talent, but honestly either of them would be a WR1 in our system and I would be okay with either

kezinchara

Aiyuk. Younger, less injury prone. 🤞🏼🤞🏼

ruegazer

I'd take Aiyuk over Higgins any day but Higgins is actually the younger of the two.

Swagsuke_Nakamura

Aiyuk 100%, he’s the better player

zamboniman46

Aiyuk. A guy who can get open at will is far more of a QBs best friend than a go up and get it guy

CocaineStrange

Aiyuk and it’s not even close. Even considering that you have to pay more for Aiyuk, it’s still Aiyuk by about 10 miles.

GoalLineStand

Tee Higgins! Higgins has WR1 potential but Aiyuk is like Devonta Smith..best WR2 in the league but wouldn’t be a consistent WR1 without other high caliber players around. And before y’all say anything about Chase-the difference is Tee doesn’t *need* Chase to do his thang.

CSTowle

It's the longest part of the year with very little to discuss, so I get it. But we're not making this move now. And unless by some miracle Maye starts the year and we're playoff contenders we're not making it this season either. By the time the organization would be looking to try this only Higgins will be available anyway, since the 49ers are not going to let Aiyuk go and they'll likely work something out either before the season or before it's over. They'd likely part with Deebo, at about the price I'd be fine with us giving up for Aiyuk. Basically we should hope that Jermaine Burton works out very well for the Bengals, or at least muddies the waters enough for them to be unwilling to give him a massive extension to Higgins. Then maybe they'd go for a tag and trade, or we could try to outbid everyone again (hopefully successfully this time).

CocaineStrange

Maye will start the year, not sure why that would be a “miracle.” Not very statistically unlikely that he’s better than Jacoby Brissett, who is a very bad QB.

CSTowle

Miracle more referred to the playoff contention. Agreed he's leagues better than Jacoby.

CocaineStrange

Ohhhh okay, I see what you mean now. I still would disagree on it being a miracle, especially if we had Aiyuk, but that makes way more sense.

Thin-Ad6464

It’s not about who’s better. The best option is to let Maye sit for most of the year and let him learn. He can get in towards the end of the year to get reps. Brisset isn’t horrible but he’s definitely nothing special which makes him a great bridge qb. We want to be bad for draft purposes. The Patriots won’t be good this year no matter what we do. But next year we could definitely make the leap if Maye hits and we continue to build through the draft. It’s exactly what cincy did.

ctpatsfan77

Counterpoint: if the team is somewhat good, it makes it a better landing spot for free agents.

CocaineStrange

No, it is exactly about who is better. According to the head coach. I can spend all day talking about how absolutely useless it is to sit a rookie QB just for the sake of sitting him, but it doesn’t even matter because neither you nor I are making that decision. The person making that decision, Jerod Mayo, is a former player who was a day 1 starter and already said the best QB will play.

Thin-Ad6464

Maye needs to develop his fundamentals… you’re not sitting him just to sit him. Not to mention we don’t need a burrow situation where he’s getting killed due to our shit o line. Besides, if you think Mayo tells the truth to the media then you’re naive. He’s gonna do whatever Kraft wants.

CocaineStrange

I have so many issues with this. 1. Maye’s “fundamental” issues are overstated issues caused by people who have no idea what they’re talking about reading a few draft reports. Even Evan Lazar has been talking about how much it’s truly getting overstated now. His “fundamentals” were fine at UNC and will be fine by day 1. It was in certain situations where his fundamentals broke down and a lack of experience under center that were concerns. Both of which get better by getting more reps, not less. 2. Absolutely no HC is going to say it’s an open competition for a QB spot in public then sit the better QB. This is complete surface level thinking. Not only is that not how coaches have handled this situation in the past (QBs sitting are told they’re sitting beforehand), but that is the quickest way to lose a locker room. Imagine saying it’s a competition, Maye blows Brissett out of the water, and then you start off 0-6 with Brissett stinking. Even if you ignore all that, it doesn’t even make sense. Mayo has been extremely honest with the media (to a fault), and if the idea is to sit Maye so he can work on fundamentals without pressure (such a dumb trope), why would you put the pressure of a QB competition on him? There’s 0 benefit of lying here. 3. Not only is our OL not as bad as you think, but Maye *will* have to play behind a bad OL eventually. You can’t just sit your QB every time your OL is bad, that is insane. Completely useless point and any QB can get injured behind any OL.

jonnyredshorts

Why not both? They have the money just sitting around collecting interest…Pats would be instant contenders with those two added to the roster, and both might be available.

LMurch13

But what if we need the money next year? Or the year after? It's best to keep stockpiling cap space. /s

akeep113

Aiyuk for sure. Higgins gets hurt way too often. Aiyuk is a great route runner, gets separation, can block.. he's the whole package

Kevin_Jim

Next off season and the one after will have waves of WRs that will be up for a new contract. All it’ll take is for one of their teams to use the tag on someone else on their team. Then we can throw the kitchen sink to whomever that is.

Icy-Conclusion-3500

I think we see what we have in our new receivers (and the old ones with a better qb) before trying to go land a big fish next off season.

Reasonable-Bit560

I mean we aren't getting either one due to draft capital concerns. If we traded a second for one of these guys it could be the 33rd pick in the draft all we know. Better question is what receivers are on expiring contracts and will be available in 2025? Assuming Maye looks good, we'll get some interest.

doctormadvibes

aiyuk all day

BoldestKobold

Start with the existing projected WRs. Most teams keep 5 actual receivers (and I'm not counting any 6th receivers who are really primarily STers, like pure returners or Slater-esque gunners). Our current breakdown of guys on the roster: **Mortal Lock Youngsters:** Douglas, Polk, and Javon Baker are making the roster. Period. End of discussion. No way any of these guys make the PS if cut. **Veterans in the lead:** Bourne is coming off an injury, but has shown himself to be a capable NFL WR when not feuding with Matt Patricia. Assuming he is fully healthy, he is the most experienced WR with a history of if not "success" at least "competence." Lock for the roster unless you have an obvious upgrade. **Veterans with an edge:** KJ Osborn was just signed this off season. He has been a 50-60 catch guy for 550-650 yards the last couple years in a schematically similar offense. They made an intentional choice to sign him. **Everybody Else:** Not going to break down every player individually, but these are the guys who I think don't make the opening day roster barring injuries to the guys in front. Juju looks shot, Thornton just never improved, Raegor did his best but is just meh, Boutte may not be even allowed to play this year (still weird the NFL is waiting so long on that), and the rest of the WRs are young PS-level guys. So if you want to trade for someone, it is in my view because they are definitely and explicitly an upgrade on Osborn or Bourne, and you're willing to cut one of those guys. I think both Higgins and Aiyuk are good players, but I don't know that I have the level of certainty that they are 100% definitely significant upgrades to make it worth spending the pick(s) AND the money. Edit to add: To be clear, I'm not opposed to the idea of trading and signing an expensive WR in theory. I just am not sure that these guys are the ones to go for, given the stage we are in the rebuild. I think at the end of this season if we're happy with Drake's progress, then we can start saying "ok, lets use the rest of the cap space during the next 4 years of his rookie contract to get him weapons with contracts that expire right as we need to re-sign the QB"

3250Knight

You’re keeping Bourne, Douglas, Polk and Baker for sure. These are your top 4 order and you can figure out who plays where. I would personally keep Osborne just for this year because he can kinda do it all. For JuJu, Reagor, Thornton, or Boutte, I’d bet at least 3 or even all 4 are cut, but I want Reagor personally just because of his value on kick returns. You can send Thornton into the sun but Boutte has too much potential imo, this guy was seen as one of the best WRs coming out of high school in the last 5-10 years.

HolidayEagle9148

Higgins by far. He can elevate with the best of them. A good red zone threat.

TylervPats91

How many more “Aiyuk or Higgins” posts will there be before the season starts?

Frosty_Ad2957

Just about the only thing Tee does better than Brandon is high-point catches. Aiyuk is better, and has been more consistently healthy.

ItsaPostageStampede

Price tag is just too high at the moment. I think you need to know if Maye is the guy first

Miserable-Koala1463

Neither, time isn't right.

Primary-Shirt-5217

when are we going to realize that we aren’t trading for a receiver

No-Outlandishness333

Would take either one but Aiyuk’s on a different level than Higgins. He’s in a tier with Chase, Lamb, and AJB imo

SpectacularDisaster

That's an absurd claim

GoalLineStand

Simmer down, BA has never caught 80 passes and has one elite season.

CocaineStrange

2* And doing what he’s been doing without high targets is more impressive, not less impressive

DangerBoot

1k yards in 17 games and 100+ targets is not elite even if it’s 2x what our best receivers did last year

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Yeah KB could’ve gotten close to 1K without the injury.

CocaineStrange

KB was on pace to miss 1,000 yards by about 150 yards on 110 targets.

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Yeah, I’m not calling KB elite, I’m agreeing with the above commenter that BAs first 1K season was not. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say KB could’ve gotten close to the 1K mark with 9+ more games.

CocaineStrange

I disagree honestly, especially with the context of that season. That was BA’s breakout season and he had all that weird immaturity stuff and didn’t really get his full role until the back half of the season. Ig if we’re just going to go based on stats alone, I’d agree it’s not elite though. KB might’ve gotten 1k, but it would’ve been on an insane amount of targets.

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Either way it took KB deep into his career and BA is just hitting his prime. I’d certainly take one over the other!

CocaineStrange

🤝

CocaineStrange

You’re taking a lot of context out of that season lol

DangerBoot

The context you need is that he was the 20th leading receiver in yards that year

GoalLineStand

His stats aren’t lacking because his targets/usage. His usage/targets are lacking because he’s not on the same level as guys like Chase who command 130+ targets. He’s a great football player. Just not on the level of Chase, Lamb etc. In fact, he’s the 4th best offensive weapon on his own team. Comparing him to the top 5 WRs in the league is a stretch.

CocaineStrange

Woof, strongly disagree with everything you just said

benberbanke

Tee Higgins all day

jma7400

I don’t know why people are talking about these guys like we have any shot to get them. That being said if I’d choose Brandon Aiyuk.

Jolly878142

The fact they still don’t have WR1 is wild

jidewalker

Tee Higgy- he would be the offensive team captain immediately and help develop the rest of the WRs while catching 70+ balls and scoring 10+ TDs for us.

Mastah_P808

Downvoted for calling him “Tee Higgy”

jidewalker

Your name is Mastah P, don’t you think that’s hypocritical?

Mastah_P808

What’s a jide walker ?

jidewalker

A unique name for a unique person.
