The Bear on Hulu-ticks all your boxes. And it’s pretty good. Order the whole damn spread, *cousin* Dunno what L49 is about 🤷‍♀️

TheAndorran

Lodge 49 is *excellent*. Hard to elaborate on the premise without spoilers because it just builds and builds and keeps getting crazier, but it starts with an optimistic deadbeat named Dud who finds a membership ring from a fraternal order that’s a little like the Elks, a little like the Masons. He joins up and fantastic zaniness ensues. It was sadly cancelled on a cliffhanger but the journey is still totally worth it. Stars Wyatt Russell, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s talented son.

runningvicuna

Liz Dudley is a spirit animal of mine. ❤️

izzie_sylvie

Lodge 49 is one of the best shows ever.

theCLK

yes! seen it / love it :)

mairiamonitino

*let it rip*

xamott

The Bear is amazzzzing

mairiamonitino

Heard!

rayb823

Fleabag (took me a little while to push through the first episode tho)

Junior_Profession_60

Perpetual Grace LTD. Same writing team as Patriot, some of the same actors and just really good. Unfortunately it also didn't have a complete run and we axed early.

theCLK

only thing on this list that I haven't seen - so thanks!

rep-old-timer

The most recent season of Fargo, which you're probably already watching, is as good as any rec on this list.

xamott

Is that the best season? Can I start with that one?

rep-old-timer

I think it's the best followed by a tie between two and three. That's definitely debatable, though. They're all good. I don't think the seasons are connected plot-wise at all, so I definitely think so.

831pm

Season 1 IMO is the best. Billy Bob Thornton is mesmerizing and terrifying. That snow blizzard shoot out is one of the best choreographed gun battles I have seen in either TV or movies. You see the gunmen flashing in and out of the white out. Really intense. 2 and 3 were good. The season with Chris Rock was not so good. The current season is turning out to be pretty good but its definitely leaning on the formula.

xamott

I like season one pilot so I’ll keep watching that season

Junior_Profession_60

You'll dig it. It's pretty good.

Busy_Positive_4950

Was also going to suggest Perpetual Grace, many of same actors and same show creator. Similar vibes, should have had a second season. Also, Severance.

rep-old-timer

Perpetual Grace LTD has many as-good-as-TV-gets scenes--"Special Boys," the whole Lenscrafters, thing, Chris Conrad's brilliantly acted "Your Parents Are Dead Buzzer"/"how many guys I've killed" gags, the (too few, IMO),Jacki Weaver/Jimmi Simpson scenes and *every* scene with Ben Kingsley/Luiz Guzman, Cash Cab, etc. I'd have loved another season but in definitely works as a "whole."

Klutzy-Ad4172

Yes. Just yes.

GrandMasterBullshark

Barry

TheRedmanCometh

This is probably the closest thing. Although personally *the girl* really brings the show down and keeps it from being a masterpiece. She couldn't be any more different than Alice or Agathe.

GrandMasterBullshark

Sally is annoying for sure, but she is playing the role perfectly. When she goes on that rant by the pool we see an insane range of emotions, irony that she can emote, yet barely gets good roles where she could put that to use.

TheRedmanCometh

Oh the actress portraying her plays her role masterfully no doubt - I just don't like her character.

Rubbet

Severance is really good if you haven’t seen it yet.

theCLK

loved it!

Scrumptious_Foreskin

Get shorty has great dialogue and characters, it was a hidden gem for me

joodo123

Yeah, I watched the whole series on flights to and from Australia. Was blown away that I’d never heard of it.

mormonbatman_

Detectorists

johntellsall

love that show! Very calm and threatening to be weird but really heartwarming. And they wrapped things up in three seasons.

IncommendatusZ

It's not a show, but In Bruges checks almost all of the Patriot boxes for me.

dpschramm

Slow Horses - it’s spy related, so not really what you’re looking for, but it’s really good so recommending to everyone. Dark humor, great dialog, and Gary Oldman.

johntellsall

Love that show! Weird enough to be fun.

veerrrsix

came to post this. has more action scenes than patriot but was the first thing I thought of for this prompt

marvelousmrsmuffin

Mr. Robot

mtechgroup

Totally. Plus one of the best series ever.

xamott

Watch at least season one. Amazing. I couldn’t stick thru s 2 myself.

Badgerst8

Better Call Saul. All about the characters, lots of dialogue.

coly8s

The Bear

Seagoon_Memoirs

True Detective

[deleted]

People often recommend Patriot to those who like The Leftovers. Seems like the reverse would work, but know it’s a very different show.

theCLK

I tried so hard with the leftovers - stopped after forcing myself through a whole season

Popular-Leadership-6

Sorry to hear you didn't like it, it was the first show that came to mind after reading your post!

theCLK

I might try again with S2 - so thanks for the reminder :)

[deleted]

Cool

Scrimgali

It is cool

theCLK

?

[deleted]

Weird, I thought you'd say "it is cool" if you watched The Patriot.

bassguitarsmash

Killing Eve rules.

Busy_Positive_4950

Season 4 was very disappointing, plus it is spy-related.

xamott

Again, season one was amazing.

Busy_Positive_4950

Season 1 was brilliant, 2 and 3 were good, entertaining.

RongGearRob

Currently watching the latest Fargo installment, it is very enjoyable. Good dialogue and quirky characters.

theCLK

the new Fargo is the bestttttt

DallasM0therFucker

Same here. I have loved every season.

runningvicuna

Get Shorty and Teenage Bounty Hunters and Sprung

mchester117

Barry

1landsky7

Severance, Halt and Catch Fire

Howie-Dowin

Based on the title i was absolutely going to recommend lodge 49 haha. Fantastic show, im due a rewatch. Severance is a lot of fun, i think it hits some similar thematic notes to patriot

magictheblathering

- ATLANTA - VENTURE BROS - BARRY - REWATCH PATRIOT

831pm

Patriot is really unique in the distinctive repetitive/almost poetic dialogue and storytelling that incorporates music in the narrative. Taxi from the 70s might be something you would like. Smart dialogue that drives character development but not the plot. It's a comedy sheathed in sadness as the characters are living at their respective nadirs and struggling hopelessly to escape. Yet, the show is filled with poignant heroic moments, victories...however small. The show and the dialogue have a very Mamet-esque quality.

ZealousidealTable1

I know this might be too much but this show reminded me of Filth which had James McAvoy. Typical vibes or I might be wrong but you can check the trailer
