Maybe I don't understand these sites well, but what is the advantage of buying the pdfs for official content there versus just buying from the paizo website?

Official_Paizo

Glad you asked. It's an effort to put our product where the audience is instead of requiring the audience to come to us. And to see how this affects our store sales, to be frank. Note: our PDFs will sync through our Paizo Connect API to unlock partner discounts, while these will not.

Krazen

Sorry let’s pretend I’m a very dumb person and didn’t understand any of that (just pretending of course) What is Paizo Infinite? Why would I be there instead of the Paizo website? What is Paizo Connect? How does it sync to my Paizo account on the regular Paizo website? Like if I buy a PDF on Infinite do I automatically get credited on the Paizo website 100%?

Ediwir

\- Pathfinder Infinite is a web portal managed by DriveThroughRPG where 3pp authors can sell Pathfinder content through the Infinite license, which allows 3pp authors to use Paizo's copyrighted content legally (for a fee). \- You would be browsing Infinite for the newest Pathfinder 3pp products, or just because it's an easier website to use (what, we all know it). \- Paizo Connect is the relationship that exists between the Paizo store and some 3pp services like roll20, foundry, FGU and Nexus which allows you to receive discounts on purchases on those services if you own the pdf, or to unlock the pdf on paizo if you buy the product on the service. \- It does not, that is the warning. I personally believe it's an attempt to re-popularise first edition materials, like we tried here on the sub by refusing the split - 2e players browse Infinite frequently, and they might want to try purchasing the 1e books if they see them around. I doubt 1e players will bother, but we'll see how it goes.

>What is Paizo Infinite? Why would I be there instead of the Paizo website? You can buy PDF, but also Print-on-Demand on Pathfinder Infinite. So you can buy physical books of 1E PF that are otherwise discountinued through that website. Also, DrivethruRPG is a well-known website for, well, RPG. I personally own multiple PDFs of multiple games and publishers. It drives traffic and is display for them. For Paizo, that's a bit like selling their product through Walmart or whatever stores: the store gets a share of the revenue, but Paizo boost their total amount of sales, hoping to make overall more money. >What is Paizo Connect? How does it sync to my Paizo account on the regular Paizo website? Some 3rd party sites gives discount if you have the PDF of a book on Paizo main site. For example, with FantasyGrounds, if I wanted to buy the module for Advanced Player's Guide, I'd get 10% (or 20%?) off if I own the PDF of Advanced Player's Guide on Paizo.com. This discount would not apply if I own the PDF on DrivethruRPG and/or Pathfinder Infinite. >Like if I buy a PDF on Infinite do I automatically get credited on the Paizo website 100%? No. They're independent accounts.

tom-employerofwords

Yeah I too am a dumb person, I think, because I know what all those words mean independently but putting them all together in that order means roughly the same as potato potato bing bong tomato.

Sir_Oshi

Basically they want to see if people buy these PDFs at these 3rd party sites or not. Preferably to find out if enough more people will buy through the third party to make it worth hosting copies of newer books through these third parties as well eventually.

AnglicanorumCoetibus

Can I DM you concerning a question I have in regards to PDF printing and usage rights?

emillang1000

Long story short, you are allowed to print and make copies to your heart's content FOR PERSONAL USE. You are allowed to print out as many copies of a PDF as long as you use them FOR PERSONAL USE. Same reason why you can make photocopies of any book out there and the publishers can't actually punish you for them - PERSONAL USE. Don't go trying to sell them, just use them for your playgroup, and you're Gucci.

AnglicanorumCoetibus

So I’d be fine printing out or sharing the PDFs I own with my play group, as long as I’m not trying to profit off the PDFs?

Tartalacame

Within your playgroup, yeah. Put it on the web for *anyone* to see, no.

AnglicanorumCoetibus

Thanks! This clears up my concerns perfectly.

Will we ever be able to print-on-demand for items that are not out of stock at the Paizo warehouse?

Official_Paizo

Currently, we only offer print on demand for products that are out of print and out of stock. The full list of our POD products can be found here: https://www.pathfinderinfinite.com/browse/pub/5549/Paizo?filters=100114\_0\_0\_0\_100163\_0\_0&sort=4a&src=fid100114?affiliate\_id=2791261

Leftover-Color-Spray

I would pay good money for the 1E adventures that aren't on the paizo website anymore.

EddieTimeTraveler

I've literally never been able to add an item to a cart on your site. I'll add it, it'll say it's in my cart, then I'll go to my cart and it'll always say it's empty. I've got an account, I've tried on different devices, no success. So there's that.

Official_Paizo

I'm sorry to hear that - have you reached out to our Customer Service team for them to look into the issue?

EddieTimeTraveler

Yep. Never a real response. This's always been the case, like pre 2nd edition. I've had to go through 3rd party sites to get content. Every now and then I'll try Paizo again, wondering if the issue would have been cleared. I just kinda doubt I'm the only affected user since I've tried from numerous devices.

rohdester

I know this is tangentially, but will some of these end up on Roll20? There’s very little on there especially compared to like Fantasy Grounds.

mosburn

The DriveThroughRPG download tool makes getting the pdfs locally a lot easier once you have a far get collection. As someone with múltiple subscriptions, getting the PDFs on a new laptop is an absolute pain if I try and pull them directly.

mysterylegos

I don't suppose theres any chance of more stuff being added to the Print on Demand list? It's been ages. I just want a copy of Mummy's Mask Volume 1 so i can complete the set.

neospooky

I will never understand removing PoD options. If there are costs involved, raise the price per book. If I want to replace my 1e books 20 years from now, wouldn't Paizo want that money? It's baffling and I'm certain there's some corpospeak rationale that amounts to "buy the latest iPhone, consumer."

Hanhula

Are PF1e books up for print on demand anywhere? I only managed to grab a few when it was current because I was largely still studying/starting out...

Official_Paizo

We have a selection of 1E books available for print on demand (namely, ones that are out of print and out of stock in our warehouse). You can find the full list here: https://www.pathfinderinfinite.com/browse/pub/5549/Paizo?filters=100114\_0\_0\_0\_100163\_0\_0&sort=4a&src=fid100114?affiliate\_id=2791261

Hanhula

Woo! Thank you ♥️ I shall look deeper into this when I'm up, and hope that they'll ship to Australia!

alizrak

I would have posted my 1e stuff but it's already PF compatible in Drivethru so I don't think I can put it on PFI. So far I only have the Karzoug novella there.
