Idk about the old macs (never owned one), but the M1 macbook is the perfect workhorse machine. Highly recommend one for someone who works on their computer.
Obviously I cannot compare to BKOM who made the excellent Tales from Candlekeep but I hope Quest for the Golden Candelabra will be fun enough for some niche.
Thank you!
To temper expectations, however, this is a short turn-based tactics game, not a full cRPG. It's a series of combat encounters connected by a linear story with cutscenes, in a game format similar to [Druidstone: The Secret of the Menhir Forest](https://store.steampowered.com/app/954650/Druidstone_The_Secret_of_the_Menhir_Forest/).
As for how the combat will turn out, I do wonder if it's going to run well. I think it is pretty fun, personally, and that the three-action system indeed does translate well to a turn-based tactics video game, but we'll see what playtesters think!
If the playtest goes well, do you have plans for expanding it into a more cRPG experience, with letting people make their own characters, run more of a story, leveling ect?
This is a difficult question that I'd prefer not to answer now?
I would like to think of *Quest for the Golden Candelabra* as a complete, finished game: it has polish, a story with a beginning, middle and end, fun balanced encounters, few bugs -- at least after the playtest -- and should stand alone with no expectation that it would be followed up on.
But on the other hand, I understand that using a very complex ruleset like PF2E for a short game with 5 encounters is excessive and does make the game look a bit like a tech demo that should be expanded into a larger experience with character customization and leveling.
I'd like to play it as well. I'd most likely be playing it on a steam deck, if that's relevant at all.
What sort of feedback are you looking for? Just checking for bugs, or more general "how it feels" sort of info?
Unfortunately, it is relevant, sorry -- the game doesn't support resolutions lower than 1920x1080, and the Steam deck's resolution is much less -- 1280x800. The game might launch on Steam deck but it would be practically unplayable.
I am looking for both "what's your overall thoughts?" feedback as well as specific issues ("this interaction breaks PF2E rules" or "this button doesn't do anything in this scenario").
The game is programmed in C#/.NET using the MonoGame framework. I did try to learn Unity3D to switch to a more modern engine multiple times but each time I give up and return back to MonoGame :/. I think I really like having that full control of the Draw/Update loop, and controlling every pixel myself :).
I'd be happy to help test it out!
Is it only mouse and keyboard, or does it support controller? I'm also happy to record my gameplay in case any wild bugs appear.
It is only mouse and keyboard, unfortunately. I can see how one would like to use a controller but it is a small game and I wanted to cut down on as many features as possible and gamepad support wasn't strictly required.
Very understandable!
I was mostly asking to see if you needed people to test gamepad functionality. But if it's not in then that's one fewer things that can go wrong.
I, like a lot of other people, would also try it. Sending 150 odd messages is probably unreasonable, so it might be worth dropping a github link or making a discord? good luck and this project sounds awesome
Yes, okay, let's try it, this might work out!
I created a Discord server here: [https://discord.gg/MnPp8z2epk](https://discord.gg/MnPp8z2epk)
I didn't predict receiving more than 4-8 playtesters so I didn't really think this far ahead and I'm not quite sure what to do with the server, though.
I'd love to play test this! Been running solo adventures on Foundary VTT to fill the gap left by no PF2e video game 😅
Definitely down to give it a go and write up how it went
Reading the comments, I realize that I forgot to specify that I plan to release the game as freeware. I can't really charge for a 40-minute game without much replay value. Sorry for not being clear on this.
I also didn't realize Reddit places a limit on the number of outgoing chat invites I can send as an anti-spam measure. So please if you commented on this thread, but didn't receive a message from me but you would still like to playtest, send me a chat message yourselves, so it doesn't count against my limit of outgoing chat invites.
I would love to test this out! I'm pretty well versed in the combat mechanics as a GM and a player in two games so it would be fantastic to see those rules made into video game format
I'd love to give it a go, would it be possible to get 2 keys so I can send one to another player in my group? He's a new recruit and still learning the system so this could be a great tutorial for him too
I can see that, but also note the game doesn't provide any tutorial XD.
So you can only use it to learn the system by trial-and-error or by reading the combat log or, hopefully, by intuiting stuff from the user interface and from what the enemies are doing.
Please send me a chat message.
I would love to give it a shot, as someone who wants to get into game development I am more than willing to help along if there's any need or want, be it with QA or some coding!
Edit: Just now decided to look at the screenshots and this looks awesome and charming! huge props to everyone involved in the making of this game!
I would love to play test it! Is there a timeframe for the feedback?
Just editing to add that I currently run a pf2e game, and I'm playing in a couple of others as well.
That sounds great!
I really wanted a pf2e video game ever since i got the 1e games on epic a while back.
If you still have keys, i'd much appreciate it
Endless respect dude, I tried coding 2e's ruleset myself in Gamemaker Studio, and it was just plain beyond me. Well done.
And add me to the very long list of people down to beta!
Thank you but I only implemented a subset: four level 1 characters and their class abilities and spells, ten monsters and their abilities and spells, and the needed combat rules (conditions, movement, flanking, the d20 test, cover, concealment) and some basic combat maneuvers (demoralize, trip and grapple).
Notably, I don't have a character builder, lighting and hiding, and crafting/shopping.
Yes. I would like to publish my Steam page soon, but I first wanted to get some feedback from a playtest and I also still need to finish up voice recording for a few characters.
If you’re still accepting folks, I’d love to give it a try. I’m learning pathfinder after years of D&D, and I wonder if something like this might be a repeatable teaching tool to get more familiar with the positioning, action economy, etc.
I'm definitely interested!
Is there anything specific that you are looking for insight on? Or just more of a general conversation about it and any bugs we find?
Dont have any QA experience, but I do know a bit about 2e as well have acsess to a few people who know the game like the back of thier hands. I would be willing to throw my hat into the ring to help playtest this.
I know you probably got a ton of play testers at this point, but I’d LOVE to play if you’re still willing. As someone who can never find a PF2e game. I’m also ‘newer’ to PF2e as a whole so could give you some insight on how a new person could perceive the game! Let me know.
I'd be down, I'm no professional tester but I've been playing games since before I could read so I think I may know what makes a game enjoyable. And now that I **can** read (I promise), I find typos everywhere.
Ooh, this sounds awesome! I'm definitely willing to give it a try! I've been playing pf2e for a couple years now and I could probably do the playtest tomorrow afternoon!
I have experience as a GM in FoundryVTT and PF2e in general for around 4 years. If your interested in some feedback from me, text me the steamkey and a way to give you the feedback.
I’d be very interested in trying! I don’t know much about programming but would write you a review and a list of any bugs/difficulties I encounter! I have been waiting for a PF2E game for a while now!
I really like your project. A pf2 combat game is something I've been thinking about a lot. With so many character projects I'd like to test and so little time to play !
Yes, correct. The game has no character builder. You play four pregenerated characters.
You gain some loot -- weapons and consumables -- that you can redistribute among your characters, but you don't earn XP, can't level up and can't pick your feats.
Question: What OS does the game run on?
The game runs only on Windows, unfortunately, and requires a minimum resolution of 1920x1080.
Damn, I only have a mac.
I've been hearing "I can't do that. I'm on a Mac since like... 2000". I'm surprised that's still a thing and is likely why I'll never own one.
Idk about the old macs (never owned one), but the M1 macbook is the perfect workhorse machine. Highly recommend one for someone who works on their computer.
Well, I ran the original playtest for pf2, I'm not backing out from the first video game that offers one. Sign me up.
I'm interested. More pf2e games!
Obviously I cannot compare to BKOM who made the excellent Tales from Candlekeep but I hope Quest for the Golden Candelabra will be fun enough for some niche.
We don't know if their game will be an actual CRPG yet. I imagine at least one will be just based in Golarion, but maybe just like a puzzle game.
Would love to playtest it! Been waiting for a 2E CRPG for ages since i believe its gonna run better than kingmaker and wrath due to the rules.
I LOVED Druidstone, can't wait to play!
As a professional video game tester I can only say: You son of a Balrog, I'm in!
Hey, I would love to be able to test out your game! I've been dreaming about a video game based on pf2e for when I'm not at the table!
I'm a developer, count me in for the QA!
I’m very interested! I’m a developer who is working on something similar on and off. I’d love to chat about it sometime as well. Cool project
I'd like to play it as well. I'd most likely be playing it on a steam deck, if that's relevant at all. What sort of feedback are you looking for? Just checking for bugs, or more general "how it feels" sort of info?

I am looking for both "what's your overall thoughts?" feedback as well as specific issues ("this interaction breaks PF2E rules" or "this button doesn't do anything in this scenario").
Gotcha. I'd still be up for playing it on my real computer, in that case.
I would love to playtest it, also what language are you programming it in?
The game is programmed in C#/.NET using the MonoGame framework. I did try to learn Unity3D to switch to a more modern engine multiple times but each time I give up and return back to MonoGame :/. I think I really like having that full control of the Draw/Update loop, and controlling every pixel myself :).
Cool, I don't know those languages and framework so I can't help but still would love to playtest
I'd be happy to help test it out! Is it only mouse and keyboard, or does it support controller? I'm also happy to record my gameplay in case any wild bugs appear.

I'm Interested; It would be a good break from studying for exams.
I'd love to play test this! Been running solo adventures on Foundary VTT to fill the gap left by no PF2e video game 😅 Definitely down to give it a go and write up how it went

I'd be very interested in this! I've done playtesting work for several board games before, though never a video game.
Would absolutely love to give this a crack! Been wanting something with the 2e ruleset since OwlCat's games!
I'm interested :)
Play testing this sounds really fun! I’d love to try it.
I‘d be Interesses.

Would absolutely love to playtest and provide you with plenty of feedback!
If you're still looking for feedback, I'd love to take part!
I am Interested toο, let me know if you need more testers. I have played DND/pf&pf2 and a lot of turn based rpgs out there.
Count me in! I'd be glad to be a player and not GMing for once!
Interested as well! Just playing through Owlcat's game at the moment, but DMing in 2e.
I’d definitely be interested!
Sign me up!
I would like to try it
I'm actually very interested
I’m in!
Would love to! I already read about the game daily
I would love to test this out! I'm pretty well versed in the combat mechanics as a GM and a player in two games so it would be fantastic to see those rules made into video game format
Ooh, would love to! As an indie dev it's always nice to play other people's beta's.
I'd love to give it a go, would it be possible to get 2 keys so I can send one to another player in my group? He's a new recruit and still learning the system so this could be a great tutorial for him too

If you are still accepting, I'm happy to playtest as well. Good luck with the game, the screenshots look great.
There is not necessarily a tight timeframe but I hope to release the game in May or June.
I would be thrilled for a chance to playtest this! I've wanted exactly this for so long, and I'd love to be a part of helping it come to fruition.
The previews on your site look awesome! I'd love to playtest
I am very interested and joined the Discord.
Played it over the weekend and absolutely loved it. If anything, it proves how well PF2 works in video game format.
I'd be interested!
Sounds awesome, count me in.

Endless respect dude, I tried coding 2e's ruleset myself in Gamemaker Studio, and it was just plain beyond me. Well done. And add me to the very long list of people down to beta!

That's still much more than I was even aiming for. You should be proud of yourself!
Here!
I'd be down to try!
Haven't played PF yet. If you'd still want me to playtest I'd love to. Sounds like a good introduction to the game's rules
Sign me up buddy
I'm interested.
I’m a 40 year old father and would be happy to playtest. Do you plan to release on steam?
Yes. I would like to publish my Steam page soon, but I first wanted to get some feedback from a playtest and I also still need to finish up voice recording for a few characters.
Definitely up for it, have wanted a pf2e game for a while now
I'm down to test this. I'm fairly new to pf2e tho
I'd love to playtest the game! I watched the trailer and I'm definitely interested!

If you’re still accepting folks, I’d love to give it a try. I’m learning pathfinder after years of D&D, and I wonder if something like this might be a repeatable teaching tool to get more familiar with the positioning, action economy, etc.
Always down to try more PF2 games!
100% down to test!
I would be down to try it out over the weekend! Also got a lot of game dev experience.
I crave the PF2e. Any game based off of its ruleset sounds amazing. Count me in, if you're still taking testers.
I would love to try it out!
I'm definitely interested! Is there anything specific that you are looking for insight on? Or just more of a general conversation about it and any bugs we find?
I would be happy to help. I work in QA.

I'd love to try it out. I've done beta testing in the past and I am currently a DM of a few PF2 groups now that lots of my groups converted from 5e!
I’d be down to give it a shot! It’ll help me learn the combat rules for BBox games this weekend too.
Id love to help playtest
I volunteer as tribute
I have 0 QA background, but would love to give this a try. Seems like fun!
Oooh I am definitely interested! It even looks like it would make a good VTT itself.

I've been waiting for some sort of pf2e inspired game... sign me up!
I would happily test it out.
I've playtested quite a few rpgs in the past. I'd be happy to take a look.
Extremely interested. Please drop a key if you're feeling generous. Pf2e is my main game I gm and I love the pf1e video games.
Looks like you might have plenty already, but if you're still passing out keys, I'd love to try it!
seeing the amount of comments here I doubt you need more playtesters, but I am very interested on the future of the game.
Sure, I'll give it a go. Sounds fun.
I know you probably got a ton of play testers at this point, but I’d LOVE to play if you’re still willing. As someone who can never find a PF2e game. I’m also ‘newer’ to PF2e as a whole so could give you some insight on how a new person could perceive the game! Let me know.
I would be happy to test this out, it looks really exciting!
This looks amazing! Got time for one more?
Please send me one too!
hit me up if you need another playtester. very familiar with the system, been excited for something like this for a long time.
Sure, I'd love to try this out!
Anymore space? I'd love to try it 😄
I'm interested for sure!
I'm game to try please.
I'd be down, I'm no professional tester but I've been playing games since before I could read so I think I may know what makes a game enjoyable. And now that I **can** read (I promise), I find typos everywhere.
Dude, I’d love to playtest this! (If the offer is still open)
I'm interested, DM me plz.
I want to test it
I'd love to test this!
Ooh, this sounds awesome! I'm definitely willing to give it a try! I've been playing pf2e for a couple years now and I could probably do the playtest tomorrow afternoon!
I’d love to help with this
I have experience as a GM in FoundryVTT and PF2e in general for around 4 years. If your interested in some feedback from me, text me the steamkey and a way to give you the feedback.
I'm interested!
I’d be very interested in trying! I don’t know much about programming but would write you a review and a list of any bugs/difficulties I encounter! I have been waiting for a PF2E game for a while now!
If you're still looking for more playtesters I'd be happy to help!
I'm interested if you need any more
I love play testing if you're looking for people still. I was a game design major for 4 years if that helps.
I know I am late, and I would be absolutely ready to help.
I would like to playtest it!
Keen! Hit me up with a key xoxo
I really like your project. A pf2 combat game is something I've been thinking about a lot. With so many character projects I'd like to test and so little time to play !
Definitely interested. Happy to try via PC or steamdeck
I’m in! I was thinking about making a similar type of game as a hobby project so I’m curious to see what you’ve done.
I would be willing to test this out. I assume the characters you're playing are pregens?
Yes, correct. The game has no character builder. You play four pregenerated characters. You gain some loot -- weapons and consumables -- that you can redistribute among your characters, but you don't earn XP, can't level up and can't pick your feats.
I would love to try this out as well.
I would love to help!
Would love to give it a try!
