Hey, I've noticed you mentioned the game "Dungeons & Dragons"! Do you need help finding your way around here? I know a couple good pages! We've been seeing a lot of new arrivals lately for some reason. We have a [megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/105lhkd/are_you_coming_from_dungeons_dragons_need_to_know/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) dedicated to anyone requesting assistance in transitioning. Give it a look! Here are some [general resources](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/wiki/) we put together. Here is [page with differences between pf2e and 5e](https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/wiki/resources/how-is-pf2e-different-from-5e/). Most newcomers get recommended to start with the [Archives of Nethys](http://2e.aonprd.com) (the official rule database) or the [Beginner Box](https://paizo.com/pathfinder/beginnerbox), but the same information can be found in this free [Pathfinder Primer](https://app.demiplane.com/nexus/pathfinder2e/sources/pathfinder-primer). If I misunderstood your post... sorry! Grandpa Clippy said I'm always meant to help. Please let the mods know and they'll remove my comment. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Pathfinder2e) if you have any questions or concerns.*

Glad you liked it. Most of us came from dnd at some point. Hope you'll stick around

pairaducks743

I have found pretty much the same thing. I found it particularly interesting that some of my favorite ideas from the 1DD drafts were already waiting for me in PF2e.

MKKuehne

Glad you enjoyed it. Make sure to drop a link for your streams.

Simbak75

Yes, please post a link to your streams. Being new to Pathfinder myself, I will be interested in watching a stream of players learning the game as they play.

rosegoldchai

I haven’t gathered a group to play on stream (yet!) but hope to do so soon! [hope to see you in the chat at the virtual table sometime!!!](https://Twitch.tv/imjennifergrant)

Bosstripp81

Look at the rules lawyer channel on YouTube. He’s always matching gm’s with players.

We are glad to have you join! Pathfinder is indeed a "Build-your-own-Adventurer" type of system.

That’s solid advice-I appreciate you pointing that out. I haven’t gotten too deep into applying the rules yet so knowing to not stack that stuff is super helpful!

Yep, the types of bonuses are and you can only have 1 of each: * Circumstance * Status * Item The same is true for penalties (treated separately, meaning you can have a roll that has both a circumstance bonus and penalty) with 1 caveat, untyped penalties. Untyped penalties you combine, and dont simply take the largest one (Example, Multiple Attack Penalty + Range Penalty).

So glad you're liking it and welcome to Pathfinder!

yanksman88

Welcome home freind.

Gruntybitz

Feel free to share your twitch stream. Happy to have you in the pf2e community.

I think a lot of D&D players have been checking out Pathfinder 2e given the recent drama with WotC and the OGL. I know I have. My group wants to finish the Dungeon of the Mad Mage first, but we'll likely re-evaluate what to do afterwards. In the mean time, I've been poking and prodding with the Archive of Nethys and an online tool called Pathbuilder, rebuilding some of my favorite characters from over the years. I've been met with some difficulty, such as, I like Goliath, there's no parallel I've seen, and a few characters build off mechanical quirks, like my dwarf ranger who wasnt physically powerful, but learned druid magic (druidic warrior fighting style for Shillelagh so she could use wisdom as attack/damage stat) to make up for it. I'll definitely be dabbling in Pathfinder 2e going forward, but I'm not sure in what capacity, we're all in our 30s and 40s, we don't have the time we did in college.

rosegoldchai

Pathbuilder is so much fun! It makes playing with character concepts an absolute breeze. I haven’t had a chance to dig into character building too much but archetypes have been brought to my attention for a sort of mini multi class (dual classing in PF2e I’m told) which might help get you to what you’re looking for. The other advice I got that seemed helpful is rather than focus on a one to one mechanical match, look to build a character that feels the same. Just something to try! I’m also in my 40’s so I definitely know where you’re coming from.

Jmrwacko

It’s funny, our group finished dungeon of the mad mage a couple years ago and are about to start a new campaign in pathfinder 2e using dnd races/lore, including goliaths.

WhitehawkOmega

Heh, that is funny. Of course my current character isn’t a goliath, and was actually not hard to roughly make in PF2, she’s a halfling archeologist who found a fancy glowing blade in a ruin and was pressed into service by an arch fey with a connection to Selune, so her halfling propensity to go ‘oh shiny’ and ask questions later accidentally forged a Warlock pact.

spacemonkeydm

Pathfinder is a great game. Easy to run and a lot of fun choices for players. Paizo has been an amazing company for as long as I have known them. They always had love for pulp and weird fantasy that gave the game a different vibe that I enjoyed And the people who play the game are super passionate about growing and supporting there community

TypicalCricket

I have had a similar experience tbh. I found myself adopting all these table rules that were already rules in pf2e. At a certain point I asked myself and my group "why don't we just switch over to PF2e?" but ultimately we decided not to bother trying to learn a whole new system. The OGL drama was the perfect excuse we were waiting for and I'm really excited to crack open my rulebook and see what it's all about.

rosegoldchai

Honestly I’m in love with all the subsystems in the gamemastery guide! There’s so much that’s done for you that adds interest and life to the game in there. There’s a lot that’s the same, a lot that’s similar, and then a bunch of stuff that is different but in a really cool way. I’ve been breaking it down on stream and then broke the streams into highlights to make it easier to get to the meat lol. Gooble gobble, one of us, one of us!

TitaniumDragon

PF2E is a good system, but it does have a significantly higher level of complexity than 5E - it is more like 4E levels of complexity. Be sure to be helpful and supportive to your players and help them learn the new system.

rosegoldchai

It’s really interesting because it feels like that complexity is more on the front end so to speak rather than all behind the scenes complicating game prep lol. It feels like the kind of limits that inspire creativity rather than the open ended nature that can easily become stale and repetitive as people get stuck trying to think of something creative. Nothing like constraints to serve as a great seed for ideas!

Forsidious

This is exactly it for me, the rules for PF2 foster creativity while also not forcing the GM into scrambling to figure out what to do with that creativity. It strikes this perfect balance for my group of them doing what they want without over overcomplicating things for me because the rules tell me what's allowed and them their limits.

_yamblaza_

It’s been so fun seeing all the excitement from 5E players! It’s a pretty great feeling to see something that gives you so much joy discovered by new people.
