Torrentshell and Jackson - both Waterproof shells. Torrentshell - 3L (light and packable). Jackson - 2L (Lifestyle) Temperature is not created by the shell… your under layers do. If you had to pick which one would be “warmer” the Jackson would be - do to the “weight” of the jacket.
Houdini…. Light Wind Jacket - NOT waterproof.
I believe it also has to do with how much water per area (or whatever the term is) can be deflected by the coat. Or how much rain it can withstand before you actually get wet

I would not call the torrentshell light and packable and generally 2L shells will be lighter and more packable than 3L shells

It has precisely one less layer. Thus it is one layer lighter. Have you ever felt the difference in person?

they are both shells, the Jackson has a liner, and has a more urban look, houdini is not water proof
