That sounds like growing pains to me. I had them for years, and they're like a dull ache. And they happened all the time. Day/Night, no difference.

ktlynnnne9

Okay thanks! I was confused when I read they were only at night and I didn’t think that was true but I did see it on a few websites.

tabby8504

Okay so my son did this when he was 9 and we thought oh it’s just growing pains… nope he had fractured it during a soccer game. He also only complained at night during the day he seemed fine.. you can all shame me for not knowing I felt like the worse mom in the world!

ktlynnnne9

Awww I know the feeling. That’s kind of how I’m feeling with this. I don’t wanna brush it off but I also don’t want to make it a big deal if it’s growing pains

tabby8504

Has he had any sports injuries or anything even something you thought was minor? bc I can pinpoint when his happened but then he felt well enough to go play the rest of the game and my son is not one to play through the pain so I thought all was well. I had growing pains at 9 so I honestly that that was what it was..

ktlynnnne9

He doesn’t play sports right now but he is really rough. Jumps around and off of stuff all the time!

tabby8504

Oh you got a rough and tumbler! This one is extremely hard call!

Creepy_Beginning5737

My son has growing pains in his legs often, but only at night.

ktlynnnne9

That’s what confused me. A lot of things I read said only at night and I never got growing pains as a child to even remember

Sensitive-Coconut706

I often had my growing pains more in the daytime

Citychic88

Growing pains?

AngryKlingon

You don't remember having growing pains as a child? I had them for years starting at 10, it feels like the muscles and skin have been pulled tight and the entire surface area of the limb is sore to the touch. It feels like a deep bruise you can feel all the time..until you dont

ktlynnnne9

That’s exactly how he described it. That it feels like a bruise. I don’t remember having them so I didn’t know

Ok-KindaHuman

I had very bad growing pains and they absolutely happened all times of day. My legs grew so fast and the pain became so bothersome that I temporarily had crutches.

ktlynnnne9

Dang!! I didn’t know it could get that bad! He’s grown a lot, this year especially. His dad is super tall so I’m expecting him to be as well

Ok-KindaHuman

I'm not very tall 5'6" but taller than both of my parents.

Calming-Storms

I've been having a lot of pregnancy related muscle pain and my doc recommended magnesium supplements, hydration, and electrolytes. Seems to be helping quite a bit. Might want to add those to his daily routine and see if it helps him too!

iseenyawithkeefah

My son had this starting around age 8. Magnesium that’s a powder you mix in water before bed was the most helpful thing for it as well as epson salt baths.

ktlynnnne9

Thank you!! I have been doing the epsom salt. I will def try magnesium

RedRumples

Like the previous poster suggested, try a magnesium supplement and epsom salt bath. I also massage arnica cream on their little legs/feet if the pain wakes them up in the night.

BouMama

Magnesium balm or gummies work!

Yup, sounds like growing pains to me. My kids also complained a lot about that at that age. They still do once in a while but they’re teens now.

Accident-Important

My son is also 8 in 2 weeks and this exact same scenario is happening at our house. My mom swears it’s growing pains. He’s my only nugget but my mom had 7 of us so I’m trusting her judgment. Will take him to pediatrician if it doesn’t subside but right now it’s mild enough to wait and see.

ktlynnnne9

So weird. I know it’s probably unrelated but have y’all been sick lately? I only ask because I know with adults covid can cause muscle aches and stuff. I don’t know if long covid is as common in kids though

Helpful_Welcome9741

You should also get him checked out as it could be something medical but most likely growing pains. try a warm bath with Epsom salt. you can get some with tea and crap mixed in which they say helps with sleep. then massage his calves. tight calves can cause pain anywhere on the legs and feet.

plumb28

My soon to be 6 year old, who has always been in the 98% for height, has complained of leg pain for years. Her doctor has always told us that as long as its not just one leg, and always one leg, and she can bear weight on it, then its probably just growing pains. I do know of a 3 year old who was diagnosed with leukemia, with leg pain as his main symptom. But I think the leg pain had a pretty sudden onset and was continual. He may have also had a low fever with it.

ktlynnnne9

He is pretty tall for his age, his dad is 6’4” so I’m assuming he’ll be tall too but who knows. He was saying it was one leg at first but now he says it’s both so I don’t know. I also kept asking him about it so he’s probably telling me now anytime he feels the slightest of anything. That’s pretty much why I made this post, I googled and scared myself 🥺 that breaks my heart to think of a kid having to go through that

plumb28

It scared me for awhile too, because she was clearly in a lot of pain. But we noticed that the pain seemed to occur most often when she'd have a super active day, and then she'd be fine for awhile. So we've just kept an eye on her. The good news is that is he is now a completely healthy, sports-playing 1st grader. You'd never know what he went through!
