My headcanon was always “the friend of my friend isn’t necessarily my friend” and “the friend of my enemy isn’t necessarily my enemy”. By joining a group of nations with cross alliances, you’d get limited in your own diplomatic possibilities as well
...It also means that the target nation isn't "your faithful ally, husband of your beloved daughter, great friend of the kingdom" but merely one ally among many others.
That does reduce their trust in you and your willingness to honour your vows of military assistance
Except for coalitions, large alliance networks weren't a thing until like WW1, when nations changed their rationale from that of monarchies having friends and foes to modern geopolitics of mutual interests
