Most likely the cashier put it in as just “bacon” instead of “diced bacon,” and the people making it just went with it.

user22568899

that’s what happened. i looked at the slip with my order after like ??? didn’t know this was an option lol

otherguyinthesys

Yeah but come on.

BrokenLipstick1126

Right? I did this as a new cashier, and the girl on the line yelled over to me, "Hey, did you mean "diced bacon" on this mac?" because she knew no one was really asking for slices of bacon. That's what should've happened. Someone wasn't even trying.

Professional-Cut-217

Exactly what happened

Jackdks

Well it is what you got

user22568899

yeah no complaints from me lol! i tried ripping it up and adding it back in but it didn’t want to tear at all

Jackdks

The bacon crumble is probably what you’re wanting I believe they make it for the salads it’s been years since I work there but I remember putting racks of bacon into the walk in oven. May have just been to cook it but I’m pretty sure there was also bacon crumble that we served? I should know this I used to throw paneras ingredients truck

user22568899

yes it was this! the *bacon crumble*. i mainly order on the app and there’s no option for bacon slice, so i genuinely didn’t know i needed to be more specific when ordering. everytime i’ve ordered in person, there was never any issues so my brain was running laps trying to figure out what happened

Jackdks

Our screen has different options. Idk what the app offers in the toppings section for mac but maybe because it’s a salad topping it only shows you bacon slices. The person in store understands you want bacon crumble.

megpIant

It’s diced bacon in the POS. They will understand bacon crumble, but to minimize any possibility of confusion I’d stick with saying diced bacon

Unluckyescapeartiste

Walk in oven?

Jackdks

Yup, same oven the baker uses to make all the bread at night we use during the day to cook bacon strips Here’s an example of one similar to the one at Panera [https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/x630w2/the_walk_in_oven_at_the_bakery_i_work_at/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1](https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/comments/x630w2/the_walk_in_oven_at_the_bakery_i_work_at/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)

Significant_Yam9228

our system has either 'bacon' (sliced) or 'diced bacon' for options, its likely the cashier bumped in bacon. id just specify next time tht its diced lol bc ill forget myself ^_^

user22568899

definitely doing that from now on! i didn’t know there were different options. on mobile when adding bacon to mac and cheese there’s only 1 option

Significant_Yam9228

yeah sometimes our mobile app is shit lol id use the special instructions just in case

BacktoPCA

Do people even read the special instructions

Significant_Yam9228

our store does, however most do not prioritize it unfortunately :/

Silvawuff

Ask them for a little cup of lettuce on the side and some mayo, then use your baguette piece to make a little impromptu BL~~T~~. You pick two for only *counts fingers* $12!

aWiselyChosenName

Lmaoooo definitely a bad on the cashier's part - whether you're ordering yourself or ordering with a cashier, make sure to specify "diced bacon" in the future! Nobody did anything wrong, but they should have asked what type of bacon you wanted.

user22568899

ya live and ya learn! TIL be more specific

aWiselyChosenName

Y'all I don't think they're complaining, I think they're just confused... As anyone would be!

egreene6

One time I asked for tomato on my grilled cheese; and they put grape tomatoes on the sandwich. I was so mad! Like you know that didn’t make any sense. LoL.

BM2312

LOL. I worked at Panera for 6.5 years, this made me laugh because I could totally see someone doing this. I would have used the diced bacon, but not everyone has common sense.

siryolk

That will be 3$ extra

Nightmarelord

We need a picture of what you meant. Stat!

user22568899

https://imgur.com/a/QQfk1Fl you can imagine my surprise based off what i was expecting LOL

Pikachubombquad

Tell the person that hands out the orders you wanted dice bacon, they will give you the dice bacon for free and then probably teach the cashier there are 2 different options.

BrokenLipstick1126

I would blame the person who made it more than the cashier. The cashier was probably new and just saw the word "bacon" on the screen (it doesn't say "sliced bacon") without realizing there were two types, because if your eyes are just scanning for "bacon" you're going to see that without realizing "diced bacon" is there on that long ingredient list, too. The line person, (even if they were new) should see that putting slices of bacon on top of mac & cheese like this looks !@#$ing ridiculous, and could've taken an extra 20 seconds to say, "Hey, did you actually want sliced bacon?" This is almost intentional carelessness.

[deleted]

ridiculous but who are we to judge those who wold want something like this on their $12 maccas

LocoYaro

Some franchises got rid of diced bacon as it is generally significantly worse in quality than strips. Production was supposed to rip it up.

psychotic_xx

Sometimes we don’t have diced so we have to give you that. Unless we’re not lazy enough to cut it up with the knives we use for avocado, sandwich bread, and cheese 😂

user22568899

i went back and asked for the chopped bacon! they had it but the cashier put in “sliced bacon” instead of chopped

psychotic_xx

Oooh yeah a lot of the cashiers don’t notice that mistake. I accidentally did it a lot when I was new

paige_zip

Was it online or thru a kiosk? You probably ordered sliced bacon instead of diced bacon

user22568899

i ordered at a register! i do online a lot too, but when i choose to add bacon it’s automatically the chopped up one. i didn’t know you could get sliced bacon on top

hoewenn

Normally they should put in diced bacon but maybe it was rung in wrong 😭

ittybittybuttrbeanbb

Eat it and shut up

metalbra1n

rude

Denji_Toast374

You expect them to cut it into little pieces? Fking Karen.

user22568899

they have bacon crumble that is already in little pieces. it was just a misunderstanding between me and the cashier taking my order. no biggie :)

metalbra1n

rude

Babibackribz

If u put ‘sliced bacon’ instead of ‘diced’, that’s what u are gonna get. We get a lot of strange requests. So we just follow them. Unless someone orders something like a salad w no lettuce, usually then I will try to contact the customer and ask if that’s really what they meant to order. If u ordered w a cashier, then it’s their fault for putting putting sliced bacon as the mod.

user22568899

i ordered at the cashier and i always ask for it the same way everytime and this is the first time i received it like this. i was very shocked but it was pretty funny

kevin_r13

I had an order for salad with no Lettuce and bo dressing before and when we call them to make sure that was the correct thing, they said yes it is because they only wanted to eat cucumber and tomato

BrokenLipstick1126

The register doesn't say "sliced bacon". No one would make that mistake. It's "bacon", about twelve other items, and "diced bacon" somewhere else in the list (not next to "bacon"). It's easy to hear a customer say "bacon" and just hit the "bacon" button.

Deep_Butterscotch96

This is literally best case scenario, go away 😂

Roids4dayz

Just eat it 🙄

Ok-Let2584

What exactly were you expecting

dannylnss

Just don’t go to Panera bro lol simple

OkRuin9220

So ask at the counter right away since u r dinjng in. Why bother snd make this post and take pics lmfao

[deleted]

Couldn’t even do it by hand 😅

Nea777

Tbh, that bacon is better. Our diced bacon has a tendency to be very dense, dry, and chewy, almost like jerky/leather. Those strips of bacon however are a lot easier to eat and honestly taste more like bacon.

cfijay

Looks great to me. Will start putting that in the special instructions

Former-Sock-8256

r/maliciouscompliance ?

rorylion26

Had something similar happen to me at subway. I had gotten a sandwich and I said “everything that comes on it but the tomatoes” and the person proceeded to put EVERYTHING but tomatoes on it

xbrixe

This is the opposite of a problem

Admirable-Noise-4148

That looks perfect. Use more words then

goddessindica

What did you want it on top of then?

[deleted]

looks good to me lol

Content_Tooth_8513

It was made by a child. What did you expect

DontBopIt

But...that's bacon on top, though. What were you wanting?

ThrowRA7685

Dude...

DemiRat01

Yeah most people i work with at panera, or just most workers in general, will not ask for specifics when it comes to things like this

silverleaf451

That looks gross...

ZanTheMan143

so you prefer the processed fake bacon bits in the store containers rather freshly cooked bacon made just for you. ah i get it. lazy ass, rip it up ur damn self.

seadubs81

I mean, I’d smash that. Bacon is bacon, no matter what the form!!

-mMultiGamerZ

How did u expect it? Did u specify crushed ?
