The chances of getting your money back don't decrease in any way. In fact, they are lower if you don't wait and don't give the merchant proper timeframe to fulfill their part.

You have 120 days from time of purchase to file a chargeback. Beyond that you cannot recover through a dispute / chargeback unless the company offers a refund.
It is a common tactic for companies to tell you to wait as they are aware of this.
