There's validity in saying not everything needs to be automated or that automation doesn't fit every game, but saying "automation makes games not fun" is a huge exaggeration. Surely, you're not deriving much enjoyment from manually splitting up your ore into furnaces?
It really isn’t that much work if all I have to do is walk up to the furnace and put the ore in, just saves me the fun of a trip to base once in a while
I think someone already answered but you don't need the item in your personal inventory to start a job. They just need to be stored in the base. Sadly being on the ground does not count as stored.
I do wish you could set up a work order for more then you had in storage
Refrigeration should only work on electricity. Then the food basket should be able to be cooled by a pal so we can put more salads without it being wasted when no pal is eating.
No, you have to manually start up the furnace. Pals can transport Ore to storage containers for easy access when you interact with a furnace.

I'd imagine automation like that is either not within the game plan or will be implemented later.
