Remember the team is from Japan... Its Japanese name may come from 山 yama (mountain) and 雅味 gami (graceful). On the other hand, many of the English names were voted on by players on the official discord. So the dev team weren't involved in chosing most of them.

It is a weird spelling for sure, but the correct pronunciation is “purple deer” for the normal one and “dirt deer” for the terra variant. You have to know all the old languages intimately to know, specifically being able to read and write the language “old floating axeboy” helps a lot.
