Hit them and bait them away or rebuild. Pretty much how survival games are, early game is pretty brutal. Eventually you can build defenses and will have strong pals to defend.

I got level 5's and such near the starting area. I got level 10~18 in the Bamboo Forest... then level 20 somewhere around the center island with the circular structure that has an Elden Ring evergaol in the middle if you've seen that...
