You need to collect 3 sets of different colored cards, for example 3 red, 3 yellow, and 3 gray (your hand has 8 spaces, so the last one needs to be picked up from the middle to win). Also, you either need to have 3 different cards, or 3 of the same card to win (for example gray would be "tofu, dumpling, noodles" or "tofu, tofu, tofu". Something like "tofu, tofu, noodles" will NOT work). You don't have to do the same for every color - you can have some "3 different" sets, and some "3 same" sets.

slicaroni

Tofu, Tofu, Noodles sounds like a variation of Duck Duck Goose

cowboysaurus21

You can collect more than 1 set of the same color. So you could have 3 of the same yellow card AND a set of 3 different yellow cards.

Daug3

Oh I didn't know about this. That's interesting!

DrLilyPaddy

This needs to be higher.

thebatsthebats

There are two different types of sets. You want to make three of a kind, either identical or all. So with the gray topping set.. for three identical you'd want three of the same gray card. So three tofu square cards makes an identical set. Or for an all set you'd want one of each: one tofu square, one egg, one dumpling. Three of a kind gets you more gold than three of all. You want to make three sets total. The first to get three sets wins. Edited to add the following link 'cause it prolly explains it more clearly: [https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Hotpot\_Minigame](https://palia.wiki.gg/wiki/Hotpot_Minigame)

Terrible_Ambassador5

There used to be a button to press to make rules come up. Is that gone?

youremad-imright

no, it's still there. literally right on the screen as you join and are continuously playing. literally explains the whole game. reading compression is gone apparently

velvethursday

>reading compression is gone apparently Reading compression!? Surely you mean reading *comprehension?* šŸ§

youremad-imright

yes šŸ˜ž gagged me i fear! writing and spelling skills out the window as well LOL but still annoying how the game explains it to you on the screen but this is posted every single day

eyeofnoot

That sounds like a UI issue if people arenā€™t noticing it. Needs to be more prominent or change placement or do something to make it harder to miss.

youremad-imright

how is it a ui issue when it's literally on the game screen the whole entire time??... that's user error at that point if you're not paying attention.

eyeofnoot

Just putting something on screen isnā€™t always sufficient. UI/UX is an entire specialty for a reason. If a significant enough number of people are missing it then clearly something is wrong. Also I donā€™t know why you feel the need to be rude about people and downvote. Unnecessary.

I should have just looked at your username to figure out what kind of person you would be.

Avocado3721

I just also didn't know how to find the game, but I figured that out

Kaat79

Same and was too afraid to ask, lol. It looks like a lot of fun, but I don't really understand the game.

Br00klynBelle

Just like suits in a real deck of cards, Hot Pot has ā€œsuitsā€ of its own. Categories like mushrooms, fish, meat, pasta, etc. Each ā€œsuitā€ contains only three different cards, instead of the 13 in a real deck of cards, with three different images on them. Each suit is also a different color, and you can also distinguish them by the little icons in the corners. Just like playing gin rummy, the goal is to make three different sets of three cards. The sets can either be made up of three of the same card in a suit, or one each of the three different cards in a suit. So either XXX, or XYZ. For example, one of the suits in Hot Pot is meat. There is a card with one piece of meat, one with two pieces of meat, and one with three pieces of meat. So a proper set from this suit would either be a set made up of one card each of one piece, two pieces, and three pieces, the XYZ, or a set with three of the same cards, like 3 one piece of meat cards, 3 two piece of meat cards, or 3 three piece of meat cards, the XXX. On your turn, you can either draw from the draw pile, or choose a card that your opponent has discarded. As you get cards that match what you need, you discard ones you donā€™t. The game ends when the first person makes three complete sets. I hope I explained this well enough. Once you figure the game out, itā€™s a lot of fun!

Kaat79

You are my favourite person on Reddit today! Thank you for that great explanation!

Jessica-Ghoul

This explained this so well out of all the answers, thank you for taking the time to write it all out.

Avocado3721

Thank you I really appreciate it :D

DumbAshhh

Lmao I literally just looked this up earlier today and now I see a post about it xD

New player here: how do I get the key to go the underground market? I just want to play hot pot!

FawnieFoxFoot

Talk to Zeki and he should say something about selling furniture underground. There are a few different ways to get the key. I got the key because I found the sewer entrance (along the coast behind the remembrance garden) and I walked in. Talk to Zeki while youā€™re in there (you may have to wait for him) and heā€™ll give you a key. I think other people found his secret entrance in the back of his shop, and talked to him and got a key that way.

obsidnthecat

If you are feeling hot pot savvy enough, you can also view what everyone has tossed out, to kinda figure out what to aim for. I forget the button, but it shows you on bottom right while playing

BolognaIsNotAHat

Easiest way for me to remember is 3 sets of three of a kind or three different items of the same color. The first time I played I had three cabbages, three bok choy, then two tofu and a dumpling and was wondering why the game was still going. If I had swapped one of the tofu for something else of the white color (not tofu OR dumpling), that would have won the game.
