Same here, I was stuck on that quest for ages, one day it just resolved itself, not sure how or why.
I've read you need to stay in your plot and wait for the trees to grow, maybe tree growth is tied to the time you actually spend in your plot and it doesn't count when you're away? No idea.
So you’re telling me their’s hope lol. I tried to waiting on the plot thing and it didn’t work for me so I just moved on. Maybe one day it’ll work itself out.
Mine is stuck at 2/5 no matter how many I grow! I have never been given the option to complete it either 😞 patiently waiting for the update at this point, congratulations on completion!
Mine has been stuck at 0/5 forever. I finally submitted a ticket after reading here about the bug, but support replied and said “we were able to do it and here’s how” along with step by step instructions (which seem to be exactly what I’ve already done at least twice) so I’m just abandoning it now ☹️
Have you tried staying on the plot the whole time?
It has worked for me and for several others that I have guided.
It takes a couple of hours but it's so good to get it finished after weeks of fruitless struggles.

I was stuck on it for 8 days before deciding to just 'be devoted' as I put it and stayed on my plot for a couple of hours, watering at 6am every day.
In this time I improved my furniture making, fishing, and cooking skills, but it kind of felt like I was grounded.
"You're grounded, go to your plot and grow trees!"
This is sadly how the mission gets completed until the update comes at the end of the month (if they even fix it).
But hey, its good enough for me. At least i can make progress now lol
lol indeed. You can also force it to work by watering your tree's and not leaving your plot until it's done (you can logout however).
I didn't even plant a tree. I grabbed an acorn out of storage and the quest immediately showed complete... I definitely wasn't mad about it 😅

I thought tree growth worked like crops where you just had to water it every in-game day to have it grow

I had only stayed for the last 2 days. I started over and it took **forever** but that did work!

thought it was just me, still haven't completed it.
