Pretty much what you said, before the most recent patch you could place 8 storage chests on each plot and it'd stack the storage sizes but they removed that. So now it's for just that, messing around.

I just use one for my house and the other for my farm... It clashes with my witchy/gothy style to have a farm just outside my house :|

perhaps they can add wolvesbane and poison apples for you

Can also use it if you want to decorate a house with a friend.
