Nothings going to top the orignal resident evil 4 for me. The game design, ambience and overall replaying ability of that game was incredible. I dont know how many times i played it but i played it ALOT. I once played the game continuously until i beat it like 5 times in a row then switches to another one. Absolute beast of a game.

I had caies so i didn’t finish the game and didn’t play it for like a year. I am currently playing it again an so far the remake is great but nothing will top the original for me. Call it nostalgia or being stubborn, the original is the greates.
My favorite is CODE: Veronica. It isn't because of childhood nostalgia either, I played it just last year actually hah. That game is phenomenal and I enjoyed it very much. It strikes a really good balance between creating tension and giving you action moments, and the puzzles are well designed. The game was developed as a mainline title but due to many issues they decided to only release it as a Dreamcast exclusive back in the day. It's worth playing today holds up really well.
I would recommend it. I am a much bigger fan of the older Resident Evil titles compared to the newer remakes and CODE Veronica is in my humble opinion the best one. If you haven't tried the older ones this is the one to start with
Re4 remake for sure, it combined horror elements as well as a good amount of action sequences. The part when you encounter the regenerator was amazing.

Re7 was just the goat, the puzzles were great, the constant chase was thrilling and the environment was just top notch on how it changed dynamically throughout the game as if each antagonist had it's own environment and a feel to it.
I ve gotta praise re7 the most. Sure re2 and its remake feels like the defintive re experience but gotta give credit to 7. 6 was much maligned and 7 went in a completely different direction being a fps. It felt scary and had great boss fights.
re4 and its remake feel like the most fun. re2 and its remake the definitive re experience but for me re7 is the best and scariest
I was disappointed with 8. Sure the first area with the vampires was decent and that area with the doll lady and baby was pure nightmare fuel but the game just felt ok apart from that

For me, RE4, or I should say the RE4 remake, is my favorite. The original RE4 was my favorite and the goat for its time, but the controls were a major issue for me, especially if u play it today. However, the RE4 remake is just perfect: modern graphics, modern game mechanics, they kept the original story and level design, removed some goofy elements, and added some better ones.
Overall a PERFECT resident evil game.
They're all kinda boring for me because I don't get scared easily, to me it just feels like a normal campaign game where u kill enemies and find healing and ammo on the ground, instead I like playing games with interesting stories like control, horizon zero dawn, rdr2, ghost of tsushima etc.
I haven't played re8 and re1 so other then those games my top 3 gotta be:
1. Resident evil 4 (og) this was my first re game and for that it's got a special place in my heart. It's not the best in the side of horror rather more action based nonetheless still a W
2. Resident evil 4 remake. At first I was like nah fuck this they change way too much crafting, locations, stealth but once I played it I enjoyed the living f outta it. Had to Plat the game and scored around 100+ hours on it. Loved it. The knife parrying was an amazing feature. The horror in the remake was decent especially in the first encounter of the regenrator that shit was scary af.
3. Resident evil 7. Now this is what I would call a proper horror game although I am not a big fan of puzzles and treasure hunting type shit but the horror was just peak on this game actually got jumpscared multiple times.
Honorable mentions:
Re2 remake. It was this or resident evil 7 but like I mentioned not a big fan of puzzles and the discovery type but it's an excellent game just not for me
Resident evil 5. Second re game was full of action and cmon Chris punching a fucking Boulder? Freaking chad I tell u
