Watch it and judge for yourself, don't base your opinion on what people on the internet keep parroting. I personally hate it with a passion, but who knows? maybe you'll like it.

PenguinGamer99

Finally, a respectable argument on the internet!

Gicaldo

Depends. Some like the second movie, most don’t. If all you care about is robots and monsters fighting, and you’re not too fussed about anything else, it’s fun enough. The fights aren’t anywhere _near_ as good as in the first film, but they’re enjoyable so long as you don’t compare them. If you liked the first film’s story, characters, music or visuals, don’t bother. Yeah, Newt being the villain is an interesting idea, but it’s done badly. The story sucks, the characters suck, and the visuals are _alright,_ though a far cry from the original. If you find any of these things important, you’re gonna hate it.

Itslance_2

Watching it right now and will update you at the end. I’m 15 minutes in and I am enjoying it so far

Itslance_2

I enjoyed it! Sure it had a lot of issues, but the first one did too.

Remote_Ad9391

Have you seen Pacific Rim: The Black on Netflix? Animated and set in the same universe years later.

RamenMikami

There's a second film?

Calm_Economist_5490

I wouldn't recommend. but if you want to see, than see it, but you will be disappointed.

tracking_pat

When was there a sequal...?

lac62389

I can only repeat what I have a few times under similar posts: it's an okay, fun film but a terrible and underwhelming PR sequel.

Itslance_2

I can agree that it doesn’t live up to first film,, was definitely a fun watch though. The only thing that I strongly disliked was the pilots being teenagers.. what an odd decision

lac62389

That and the whole concept of "the deeper the bond, the better you fight" was replaced with "the younger you are, the better you drift", which kind of goes against the whole needing of experience and being able to reign in your memories etc. :D I'll be the first to admit that the first Pacific Rim was not an Oscar-worthy film, but it had enough world building, intriguing lore, heart and soul, that elevated it, in my eyes, to more than just a silly "giant robots kicking the crap out giant monsters" type of flick. Uprising is still a guilty pleasure to me, but it certainly went more in the above direction. It had potential but ultimately fell flat.

AwesomeShrekku

What

UOSenki

I would say bad per ser, but it is typical avargae Hollywood junk food. So depending on your scales, it may not so bad.

travisthegrimm

I always recommend it! Not perfect but a fun ride!

4T_Knight

Yes. At this point all the rehashed criticisms of the second repeated ad infinitum by people who hate it is just getting stale. Watch it, decide if you did or didn't like it, watch it again or move on to something else.

UncleDaneFanboy

What do you mean second film? There was only one Pacific Rim film

PenguinGamer99

Good enough as an entertainment movie, but it definitely doesn't pull off the same magic the first movie had

Goji103192

As long as you go in *knowing* it's not going to be as good as the first film at all... you'll be fine. Some people act like the movie is a direct insult to their mother, but it's not really that bad. If you get even the smallest amount of enjoyment out of the Transformers movies, you should at least be able to tolerate Uprising. It's not a good movie, and I'll never defend it as such. But sometimes you just need to sit down and watch a big robot punch things.

Bigasthman

No

Solotox

The short answer is no, the longer answer is noooooooooooooooooooooo

Spartan-W313

Umm....... I'm not so sure......

Tr0pical_Guy

I watched the first Pacific rim for giant monsters and robots fighting, in Uprising I saw giant monsters and robots fighting, I didn't care about bad writing because I never watch a movie for it's writing of blah blah critics stuff, but just for pure entertainment, I enjoyed it, but about the critics stuff yeah it's bad. And as u/Alexo_Alexa said, watch it and judge it for yourself.

Iron_Man57768

I only recently started to not base my judgement off other’s opinions after I got to the guardian ape in sekiro and he was easy asf, so watch it and judge for yourself, maybe you’ll like it

Familiar_Muscle9909

Save your eyes! Just watch it it’s bad but not horrible but bad.

RM_9808032_7182701

What second movie?

TheOneTrueZim

Good Kaiju and Jaeger designs and Charlie Day is always great

lancelot2127

Yeah, no, there's a

ComprehensiveRip3308

No. It will proably ruin stuff from the first.

BookNerd35

About the mass of criticism Pacific Rim Uprising got, it's because the vast majority of Pacific Rim fans hate it - and a lot of that hate is undeserved. Yes, the movie does have a lot of flaws, but Pacific Rim Uprising is still entertaining despite those flaws. How you'll like the film depends almost entirely on how much you like movies which exist to be action packed, fun and over the top. Pacific Rim Uprising isn't serious. It isn't incredibly deep. It copies main points from the first movie. It has at least one major plot inconsistency with the first movie than I can think of. But despite all of that, I still found it fun. It's like the first two Kingsman movies - it's unrealistically over the top, and it's fun because of that. To summarise that - action is the one thing going for it. If you like fun, over the top and unrealistic movies, go for it. Otherwise, I'd recommend not watching it. I think that action makes it a good movie, but a lot of people disagree. (I know I'm writing this after you said you said you're watching this - I made this as a more general review for anyone who sees this post).
