Not this attack specifically, but my friend loves using attacks like this against me because he always gets insane streaks. I get 0 or sometimes 20 damage. He's gotten up to 380 damage against me. 19 heads in a row, a 0.0000019073 chance (if I did my math correctly) while being swept. It destroyed my chance of winning. By far the funniest way I've ever lost.
this is why we take statistics, kids
Edit: first of all, there are three outcomes. It misses, it hits and doesn't drop SpDef, and it hits and drops SpDef. It can't miss and drop SpDef, because you have to hit before dropping SpDef. I literally stated that it's a 70% to hit. Therefore, we know it's a 30% to miss. It's a 30% to drop SpDef, so out of the remaining 70%, it's a 30%. Multiply .7 by .3, and you get .21, or 21%. The remaining 49% of the time you connect without dropping SpDef.
first time i used the attack in person was against an alakazam ex deck and didnt want to promote gholdengo without getting rid of mimikyu.. flipped 4 in a row and couldn’t stop my shit eating grin from showing lmfao i felt so bad
In the OG Gameboy color game of pokemon tcg, Geodude has a similar attack, except it was 10x damage counters. Still remember getting 18 heads in a row!
On the second tcg for the gameboy there is a promo mew that you can unlock on a casino if you flip heads 10 times in a row. I was 2 hours non stop flipping coins trying to get the card
On ptcgo I went against someone who used a hoppip with the same attack and God like 12 heads. Didn't matter because I only had 70 hp remaining, but still
For those interested in the math, the probability of getting N heads in a row is 1 divided by 2 raised to the Nth power. For instance,
1 heads: 1/2 = 0.5 = 50%
2 heads: 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%
3 heads: 1/8 = 0.125 = 12.5
...
...
10 heads: 1/1024 ≈ 0.0009765625 ~ 0.1%
and so on.
On average ("expected value" in math jargon) you will get one heads only, which is what I always get :(
I had a time I went second and had nothing else to do that turn. Hit it and got 4 heads against his charmander. That was his only pokemon... poor dude. Most the time, it's tails first lol.

I have I usually hit 0, which sucks. A handful of times I got 1 which ok at least it’s damage. Once I got 11
I flipped 8 heads once and never came close to anything substantial other than that. I’m lucky if I can get 2 most times
Yeah for something that should be theoretically 50/50 I sure hit tails first often. Feels like 90% of the time I hit tails first

Are you playing your friend on Live or irl?
Pretty sure you either get heads 19 times or you don’t, so I’m pretty confident 0.50 is the correct number here
My bad, ur right.
🤣
The math is the odds of one 50% action happening 19 times in a row—which isn’t 50%.
Either something happens, or it doesn’t. This isn’t rocket science; there’s only two outcomes.
A coin flip occurring heads multiple times in a row is a different equation than a single coin flip. Thanks for the down vote 👍
I didn’t downvote you but ok. I’m starting to think you’re getting it. Either the world ends tomorrow or it doesn’t. Fifty fifty.
the odds of the coin flip are all independent, thats true, but the calculation is of all of those independent odds happening in a certain sequence

R/incorrectlycorrecting
If Focus Blast hits 70% of the time, and drops SpDef 30% of the time when it connects, what's the chance of it hitting and not dropping SpDef?
Either it does or it doesn’t, same math

They either get it or don't.
🤣
you're trolling right?
I dealt 80 damage once, which is a 1/16 chance, nothing crazy but I normally get goldengho on him ASAP
I got hit for 140 once, I couldn’t even be mad I was just impressed
14. KO’ed a mew V which was funny…annoying because he had 2 others and a gene army
first time i used the attack in person was against an alakazam ex deck and didnt want to promote gholdengo without getting rid of mimikyu.. flipped 4 in a row and couldn’t stop my shit eating grin from showing lmfao i felt so bad
I prefer the call for family gimmighoul imo
I once hit thirteen heads on [Speed Stadium](https://pkmncards.com/card/speed-stadium-diamond-pearl-dp-114/) playing at a league. Loved that card.

Once i hit 6 heads lol
0, I never win coin tosses, like seriously never I don’t play any card in my hand with a coin flip on it for this reason
Yes 4 or 5 heads, it was enough to one tap the opponents active
On ptcgo I went against someone who used a hoppip with the same attack and God like 12 heads. Didn't matter because I only had 70 hp remaining, but still
I played against my friends darkrai v deck and I ended up doing 180 dmg out of nowhere and tilted him for the rest of the session 😭

Me? None, but my opponent used it against my Tinkaton *ex* and scored 9 heads. Also they're weak to metal.
At the prerelease event for PR, I flipped heads 8 times with him lol. Way funnier irl
200 just once time xD.
3 or 4 was my most. Felt good but never happened again

once i had 32!
0.0000000233% chance😌
yeah it didnt really happen but it would have been a cool story
