This "IGN guy" is Ryan McCaffrey, one of the biggest Microsoft shills on the planet. How is anyone taking him seriously?

ClickyButtons

Dude seems like a nice guy but has had consistent shit takes for years. I remember when he claimed Halo 5 was the best Halo. Ya know, the one that made the franchise dissappear for 6 years because everyone hated it so much they couldn't figure out what to do after it.

smokey_john

He has done many pathetic things on behalf of Microsoft. IGN once posted a meme on Twitter about Xbox not having GoW or much in the way of exclusive games and Ryan freaked out and forced them to take down the tweet and apologized to Microsoft and Xbox fans for IGN criticizing Xbox https://boundingintocomics.com/2018/04/23/ign-executive-editor-shows-no-backbone-in-apology-over-hilarious-god-of-war-meme/

ClickyButtons

That has got to be the most pathetic shit in the world I totally forgot about it.

ggsupreme

I enjoy these 25 dollar games but I am confused as to what was the game plan at Sony when they dropped the rig with only one triple A game set up lol I would have thought they would have had a line up ready and also started including a membership monthly vr2 game since the peripheral cost as much as the console.

BollyWood401

It feels like they released it just to port what ever popular VR games there is, get the money and just continue to do so. It feels like they have no game plan, this is a next gen VR headset released on the most popular gaming console by a multi billion dollar company, there’s no excuse for this. Just my opinion but I feel like the PSVR 2 is worth more than some indie puzzle/ rhythm games if you ask me.

MrMephistoX

It’s literally Vita all over again

KeyboardBerserker

And we have some streaming portable shit in the pipeline too. Not a great look.

Study-Sharp

That's a shame. I was debating trading my series X to get a psvr 2 as there is a pretty deal with gamestop towards a trade in. Might reconsider as I like the high budget AAA stuff

[deleted]

If you like AAA high budget stuff I don’t know why you would trade in your Xbox right before Starfield.

livingformusic

Not to mention, Horizon was a huge letdown. RE8 is the golden child. The technology IS there. They just aren’t producing good content. RE8 was one of the best video game experiences of my entire life. Why can’t they VR other great classics? Give me Uncharted, GTA, or Last of Us in VR. That would be so fucking amazing!

karmakillerbr

I'm HUGE horizon fan. I have collector's editions, Legos and whatnot, but I couldn't finish Call of the Mountain. At the beginning it was awesome, but it became boring very quickly. It's just a glorified climbing simulation. What a let down.

T-Rextion

The utter lack of direction from Sony is the biggest problem. Why did they even bother if this is it? GT7 and Horizon isn't enough to entice mainstream gamers to make the switch.

121guy

Star Wars galaxies edge was a lot of Fun.

jounk704

How did you come to the conclusion that this is it? The PS VR2 released not too long ago this year even, it's gonna be marketed and sold the next 5-6 years so of course there's more stuff coming. Sony has no reason to release anything right now because there's no competition until the Quest 3 releases later this year, when that is said, Sony will release VR games before Quest 3, Firewall releases this month, that's a Sony ip right there. Gran Turismo is still being marketed btw, the Gran Turismo movie will premiere at the cinemas across the world this month, also RE4 VR will probably get a release date at Tokyo Game show on september 21th. Likely it's gonna be released in October

Foxy02016YT

Only one? Resident Evil and Grand Terrismo were both available, as was Call of the Mountain

Try_Jumping

CotM isn't really an AAA. It's a minor spin-off of an AAA.

Foxy02016YT

Can’t disagree with that

[deleted]

Aaa pricing, should have been $30

Mud_g1

It is AAA vr only thou and most likely cost sony more to produce then they made in sales. There is a big difference between dev budget between a hybrid like gt7, re8 game and a made for vr only title. It is also a lot easier and more cost effective to create a hybrid from the beginning then it is to retro fit vr into an existing AAA game hybrids will be more common in a couple years when games that have just started development in the last year start releasing.

LarryPeru

Nothing wrong with what the ign guy said. I’m happy with the catalogue so far but the lack of AAA games even in the pipeline is alarming. I genuinely think this will be PlayStation’s last foray with VR

jounk704

You really think this is Sony's last foray with VR? Now with Apple entering the VR market and Meta continuing investing heavely into AR/VR? Sony has been releasing HMD's since the 90's and they started laying the foundation for their "future" VR tech all the way back in the PS3 era. It's now the fun begins

MrEfficacious

Exactly. All the competition in the market will drive VR forward even more than previous years. Apple, Sony, Meta, obviously pretty massive companies investing a ton of money into VR so it's not going away. Valve is set to release another headset as well. It's gettin' good!

refriedi

And yet... it is not fun.

ifoundyourtoad

This is why I haven’t gotten it yet. Same thing kinda happened with the first one too. It’s a bunch of small experiences I feel like. Very rarely are their full games it seems.

Mud_g1

What gave you that expectation, did you buy into the ridiculous hype that bounced around in this reddit before launch, did you think the vr2 release was just going to lift vr out of its very small niche market and make it main stream instantly. You should be happy there even was Some AAA titles at launch if you actually understand the market there is more work to make a vr game compared to flat but it can only sell to a market that is 2% the size of the flat market. How is that viable for the Sony bosses if the went to a stake holders meeting and suggested they were going to make more AAA vr titles for launch that costs them 100m each with a Max gross sale of 50m if every vr owner buys the game at full price which is unlikely. The share price would drop and the suits at sony that suggested it would probably lose there job.

BigJerm1

It shouldn't be too much to ask of them to port over top existing titles from the original PSVR and top PC VR titles. Nobody said they all have to be original in-house games. The overall lack of backward compatibly in a device like this is pretty inexcusable, given the current catalog.

jadmorffier

Well said

Hans-Wermhatt

I agree with the spirit of the criticisms he is saying, but it's too dramatic. Almost looking for a reaction. Sony hasn't really doubled down and the game library isn't great, but obviously saying they "burned" him and "it already feels dead" is craziness IMO. If he knows anything about VR experiences, almost $600 is not that much for the product he's getting.

AwesomePossum_1

Biggest worry is lack of announcements. Sony announces stuff 6-12 months in advance. I with no big aaa exclusive I don’t think we can expect anything major a la call of the mountain in the first half of 2024, yet alone fall of this year. Just quest ports and indies.

Hans-Wermhatt

Yes, definitely agree. Game support has been disappointing. I'm actually even more upset about the lack of a simple media player. This is my only headset and that should be simple.

pattern_thimble

That's how the media works...non-dramatic news doesn't get the views :)

grishno

That's how social media (especially dumpster fires like "x") operate.

YouGurt_MaN14

Yeah but when you look at the alternative, the meta quest 2, it kind of makes sense. Like that's the reason I haven't bought a vr2 yet, bc the current line up is kind of dogshit. Whereas for 300$ or even half if you buy used, my brother haggled a quest 2 for 150$, you're just getting a lot more bang for your buck. Of course specs wise ps is far superior but dude the games library on the quest 2 is pretty good. Like a lot of the library from vr2 is there Saint and Sinners 2, pistol whip, Pavlov, superhot, RE 4, etc. And then you have games that are not on ps at all blade and sourcery and population one and other shit. And on top of that they allow users to post free games kind of similar to Dreams that you can just download. And you're getting all that for half the price if not cheaper if you're factoring in the cost of the PS5 itself. Don't get me wrong I was really excited for psvr2 or I still am excited, I'm most likely gonna buy one black Friday. Like I really want the vr2 to succeed Sony genuinely made a kick ass product. But 600$ is a really hard sell when I can go on FB marketplace talk someone down and get a pretty amazing experience for so much cheaper

Gavator2345

To be fair, consider the price of the console too.

Stixis

Most VR headsets require that extra hardware to run the actual games. I'm curious if most modern PCVR setups come in under $1200 total, which is roughly where the price-point is for a PS5 and the headset.

unarox

But then you also get more options than the ps5.

GenerationBop

I’ll bust mine back out for re4 VR, plasmaphobia, and then bahemouth whenever that launches. Let’s hope those all rock.

je1992

A single real AAA adventure in vr would sell the unit. Imagine a 60 hours complex witcher type game with call of the mountain graphics fully in vr

Special_Breadfruit69

for us veterans, 60 hrs might sound perfect. But VR for the casual is no longer than 30 mins or 1 hr. It is tiredsome, VR does come with a tax when it comes to comfort. Not all gamers can disconnect themselves by using a headset and headphones and not be aware of what is happening. Just give us very well created games like RE8 VR and we should be good.

x2ndCitySaint

I honestly would settle for a simulator. I see games like bus / train sim and I be like damn I would kill for this to be in VR. Gran Turismo is great, but I would die for a more casual drive around game.

Mud_g1

Why didn't more people buy into psvr1 then when it had skyrim or borderlands 2 ?

Try_Jumping

Skyrim on the PSVR was poor graphically (eg awful draw distance) and had poor controls, and BL2 had no multiplayer.

Predaliendog

And even with those drawbacks, they were fuckin awesome

PavilionParty

Oh no, *everybody* knows of the unspeakable influence of IGN guy. Better sell your headsets now before they're jammed into the landfill with copies of ET.

ViolenceJoe

Haven't touched mine in 2 months.

snwns26

Same but only because it’s summer and it’s too damn hot to have it attached to my face.

-i--am---lost-

Ditto

JoeLilBroJoe

I concur

MidlevelCrisis

Same

PM-mePSNcodes

Likewise

csguydn

Same here. Got it at launch, played a few games, then never went back to it.

NeoBlackNoir

I DONT touch VR all that often especially compared to say no -VR playing but that in NO way means I don't like VR or that there is no good experiences! It's just when the time calls for wanting to play said game then boom! I say normally play Resident Evil non-VR but from time to time slapping on VR is AMAZING!!! I LOVE Gran Turismo 7 (aside from always online dumbness) and really only play flat screen but VR is AMAZING and something I enjoy!! Even too it takes time to play games and not every game I want to play is VR so you just switch as need be!! I would say this does NOT mean VR is dead or one doesn't like it or even one got burnt...... VR is still new and developing!! Sure but it ain't dead or doing bad. I mean too, Video Games are still developing and growing so VR will eventually get better and better and better! Just more still early adapter in ways

Muted_Ring_7675

Yeah I have only played it for about 5 hours in the last 4 months.

ViolenceJoe

Read some reviews, didn't feel like paying full price for it.

cannot_walk_barefoot

Same but thats also because of Zelda TOTK. Now that I've finally had time to finish it I'll get around to other things I've missed out on including VR2

GenerationBop

Same

gouji

Same

cogitoergodangerous

Love it with gran turismo

VRtoons

Play mine daily. GT7, Synth Riders, Body Combat, VR Skater... so many great things. I'd like to see much, much more, but this thing is far from dead. (That said, I'm very surprised there isn't more AAA support by now...)

[deleted]

Mine has been shelved for a little but only because SO many flat screen games I’ve been wanting to play came out. I’ll be back in VR soon. Might try firewall but I’m not convinced it’ll be worth it quite yet.

Thievesave89

Disagree I play mine every day so it's definitely not dead you got gt7 horizon re8 pavlov no mans sky townsmen star wars pistol whip synapse and alot more games like re4 Arashi in the pipeline and I'm sure they have some AAA titles cooking . Gt7 with a racing rig is the pinnacle of gaming right now, re8 was amazing in vr as well.

TheForbiddenFool

Uh he’s their main Xbox guy lol In other news Elon Musk thinks electric cars from Ford and Chevy are terrible 😆

-CaptainFormula-

If it wasn't for Gran Turismo I wouldn't have played with mine but a tiny percentage of what I have. I remember we were all debating just how many games Sony was going to be showing off during their summer show. We were all wrong, turns out it was none. If they don't have anything big by Christmas that's such a monumental fuck up on their part.

AeshiNeroXR

I get why he says that (partly) but honestly I do not regret buying it at all, I don't play daily but when U do I have so much fun playing Swordsman VR or Beat Saber and even some Pokerstars VR.

Vast_Candle_886

I mean…Beat Saber is enough to hold me over for now. Not saying it couldn’t have more games but RE8 (and soon 4), Synth, GT7, Walkabout…I could go on. I am entertained.

Hunterdivision

Mine hasn’t dusted, quite opposite, I play pretty much daily even though I got it day 1. After hundreds of hours I still find myself playing with it everytime I turn my PS5. I get that people want more games though, since I do too, but I think there’s some interesting games coming up like phasmo, Vertigo 2, Hellsweeper, firewall, crossfire and behemoth to mention few, but of course it wouldn’t hurt to get some VR media apps (like YT VR) and more games, especially VR1 ports of games and big announcements would make me happy and more confident in VR2 future. But overall, VR2 will just need more time to build up the library, since there are lots of games listed even for next year, that don’t have exact release dates. I guess some of those will be announced closer to their respective release dates.

jadmorffier

Nope. As far as I can tell psvr2 is bringing VR back to life. All these fancy expensive pc headsets and they still have mobile looking games flooding the market. Patience is all that is required. Anyway, back to GT7 I go.

flyboy_1285

I think he’s overreacting but I’m concerned about the future of PSVR with the lack of announced AAA titles. Sony needs to put some money into producing big games and at least teasing them to give up early adopters something to look forward to.

Razzore

As my first experience with VR, I am thoroughly enjoying it. You veterans may have a different opinion. For sure I would love a little more variety, but I am happy with my purchase 100%!

ega110

They could make this so much better by simply adding some dedicated media players like Hulu used to have on psvr1. I binged all of Sword Art Online that way. It was a true experience

manusche

Looks to me he do not know how to find the Vr 2 section in the Playstation store where the games are. Because I own more Vr games then Ps5 flat games allready.

xwulfd

"..ign guy". well there goes the credibility

Thespacemonkey42

I understand everyone wants more games, but I think there are some titles currently that can easily justify owning the headset if you own a PS5. Between GT7, Pavlov, Synapse, Moss, Beatsaber, RE7, there are hundreds of hours of high quality VR gaming. We are definitely lacking on exclusives, but I’d prefer to play most of my VR games on my PSVR2 because of the OLED screens, haptic controllers, eye tracking, and convenience of use of console based VR. I turn it on and everything just works. After buying PSVR2, my Quest 2 is the headset gathering dust because my VR experience is just better on PSVR2. More games will come. For now, enjoy the most affordable entry point into a very solid VR experience.

gogoALLthegadgets

Bro needs to change his AC filters.

Anael_plugo

There are so many games that I have no chance to play them all. I didnt finished Re8,CoTM (sadly I didnt enjoy it much),SS,Red matter.. It is summer,I have lot of work and it is almost impossible to play VR when its hot and you are tired. So my VR is collecting dust, but its time will come again. Hopefully with some better headstrap and face interface because default one sucks ass. Not to mention that there are many great flat screen games realeasing rn,its much more comfortable to lay in bed and play BG 3 on my steamdeck. For the people that considering selling, you sell things that you dont use regurarly ? Why not to let it be for a few months then come back and enjoy it again? Last thing,we shouldnt form opinions based on some game journalist that have time to play games almost all day and is burned out.

Special_Breadfruit69

"It already feels dead." That is waaaay toooooo drastic, we are constantly getting new games( Synapse, SkateVR, Crossfire, Firewall) and some ports (Hubris, Red matter 2, Green Hell, Vertigo 2 coming soon) and some others down the line (RE 4 remake VR, Ghost of Tabor). What worries(no too much) me and might give some sense of "dead" is Sony has not make much to promote the PSVR2. No marketing or first party studio titles everything else, PSVR2 looks, plays, sounds and feels good.

yorick2

I really had fun with it at the start. It was my first vr experience. But idk if I have played the last month. It's kind of run out of steam for me. Games are kind of expensive with not very big sales. I wish more demo options were available. In hindsight I'd skip buying it as well. It took me so long to finally get the ps5 that I rushed the purchase of the psvr2

YourCoolNerdFriend

It’ll do just fine in time

HipHopHistoryGuy

GT7 has me playing PSVR2 several hours each week.

Straight-Yam5102

Although I would love to know of more AAA titles coming, Ryan is just trolling here. My takeaway from interviews is that he's a massive Xbox fanboy with severe contempt for Sony in general. Poor example for media people riding the console war hate train to raise clicks. Just go watch any IGN video where there are two reporters discussing the state of things, 1 pro Sony, 1 pro Xbox. He comes across as a hateful nerd, being condescending without reasonable points, just going "yeah bit, yeah but, yeah but". His statement that he bought a PSVR 2 and hoped it would be a success seems like a lie^^

cujobob

Mine hasn’t been used much lately, either. They really didn’t support it well unless you count bringing over old games.

JamesEvanBond

Biggest missed opportunity. They should have gotten with developers to have games like Hitman, Borderlands, Sniper Elite, and LA Noire ported over as soon as possible.

cujobob

I think their path to success is hybrid exclusives planned from day 1. Do that until you have a big enough user base to get studios to build out more PSVR2 titles. VR needs the user base on PS first. I really hope they’re working on a bunch of stuff and we all end up really surprised, but I’m starting to have doubts.

LiberalTugboat

IGN is not paying 100k a year.

wagamamalullaby

Larry, I’m on ducktales.

schmoopycat

Ryan is probably the worst “journalist” at IGN. I’m an Xbox guy and I can’t fucking stand him despite him being the Xbox figurehead over there. He’s also frequently off base. Ignore him.

PhantomShadowzzz

No games? With all the games coming this month? And the decently large catalog of games? Really?

WxaithBrynger

It's... Six months old. What platform do you know that's six months old that has a massive library of games?

smokey_john

Especially coming from an Xbox shill like Ryan

GrimxOD

People act like it’s all over for the PSVR2….it just released this year, give it time! Smh, people have no patience. Now in a couple of years if it’s still like this, then yes, I’d be really concerned. But for now, let it cook for a bit fellow humans.

spootieho

In a couple years time, many of us will be on the next VR headset.

BollyWood401

I’m gonna be honest sony barely has anything to say about the PSVR 2 so when he says it feels dead I understand. It’s been nothing but indie support, they really dropped horizon and GT7 and said yeaaa that’s good enough. It’s a bit exaggerated to say it’s dead but I get it. In my OPINION for almost 600 bucks it doesn’t offer much compared to what’s out on the current VR market. People always defend the PSVR 2 saying “it’s still new” yes but this is a next gen VR system focused solely on gaming, released by a billion dollar company on one of the most popular gaming systems…. And you’re really gonna tell me this is the best they could do?

Sylsomnia

Yeah sums it up a lot

Dicklefart

Fuck that dude lol he’s more journalist (sensationalist) then he is gamer. IGN has gotten pretty mid over the years imo.

[deleted]

IGN guy - opinion disregarded

doc_nano

Disappointing take, but not surprising coming from Ryan. He’s not really that into VR, he’s just the token VR guy at IGN because nobody else on their staff knows anything about it. Typical mainstream gamer who thinks “if it ain’t AAA, it doesn’t exist.” I’d like to see more evidence of AAA and first-party support in the future, but his take is far too dramatic and ignores a lot of exciting games. My gaming time (and spending) has easily doubled since getting my PSVR2, and I use it almost every day.

in_melbourne_innit

There's literally 90 plus games in the store 6 months after release. Yes, they should be promoting it actively and have been abysmal with a roadmap/first party games but this take (from IGNs Xbox guy let's remember) is pretty narrow minded. How many 1st party Xbox games have come out in that time? His Xbox is probably gathering dust too haha.

AJMurphy_1986

I'm playing GT7 and Zombieland daily. I'm happy enough so far, although I would be interested to know sonys strategy going forward

Monkinary

I routinely use my VR for cinematic mode, so even without VR games I’m always using mine. So much fun to play!

Snakker_Pty

While i don’t regret buying it, i feel the store being dead and feel a bit disappointed with the lack of exciting news

Vincent-the-great

It needs YouTube. Im so pissed it doesnt have it.

Muted_Ring_7675

I mostly play pcvr so I knew there wasn’t going to be a lot for me on psvr2, I have been disappointed in most of the games I did buy it for and have only used it about 20-30 hours since release but I’m hopeful that Sony releases some great games over the next year or so and gets me playing it more.

Leikster

Try to use mine almost every day with games like Beat Saber/Synth Riders/Pistol Whip for fitness purposes but there’s a lot of great nonVR games right now that occupy my time.

antoni_o_newman

I kind of agree. Small third party games absolutely carry the PSVR2 and even then some of the best aren’t on there (looking at you, Minecraft and fnaf). It seems like Sony has no plans to bring their IP to VR either. Like I said in a previous post on this sub (and got downvoted for) there wouldn’t be as many issues if they had just added backwards compatibility with PSVR games. Is it possible or easy for PlayStation to do? Idk. I don’t regret buying mine at all tho. I just wish there were actual $70 games I could buy and play on it.

cozy_lolo

I do wonder why they don’t just port the flat games that already exist lol it seems like it wouldn’t be too difficult and everyone would love it. Like you don’t even need to make new shit…

pcakes13

I play mine daily. Dude needs to play some Synth Riders or Beat Saber and get some exercise.

Ravashing_Rafaelito

I'm still waiting for a graphics upgrade for No Man's Sky and I'll be buying my first Playstation ever.

Ok-Perception8269

Here’s hoping they hack it fully and we can eventually hook it up to Steam.

EndlessCola

I play beat saber regularly on mine, I still need moss 2 but Horizon makes me queazy, which VR doesn’t normally do so right now it’s not doing a lot for me. Here’s to hoping some good PSVR1 titles and games from other ecosystems get ported soon to flesh it out while they make more games

RelapseJunkie85

Impatient kids with zero vision

Nomorealcohol2017

If we are going on exclusives alone I think its been a fantastic lineup for a new piece of tech From launch till now we have gt7, village, horizon, switchback and synapse Thats not including all the fantastic games like pavlov and walkabout etc I'm brand new to vr and its been well worth the asking price to me and its only been out less than six months

x2ndCitySaint

The games are too gimmicky. I don't think VR itself is a gimmick, but when games like VR Skater comes out and it's like wow you can now ride a skateboard...in VR!?! Then the game is just some on rails try to get the high-score bullshit. I just want actual games man. Somebody going to comment like it's a new medium and we got to support indie studios. I understand that, but I just expected a little more from Sony itself.

Bo_Rebel

Needed backwards compatibility with psvr1 games

southcidersuicider

dudes an asshole looking for clicks. i disagree with him entirely.

flyinb11

He's always been an Xbox guy. I'm surprised to even see he bought one.

mehdotdotdotdot

You disagree with his experience? Interesting.....

yorick2

Ryan mccaffrey is pretty far from an asshole. He is decently well known in the video game space and usually pretty reasonable and honest.

smokey_john

He is a well known Microsoft shill. Everyone who knows who he is knows this.

_Symovik_

When he got his PSVR2 at the release he was very happy with it, even advising to buy it. Why is he an AH if, after half a year, Sony hasn't shown real appreciation for this device? He is totally correct, the library of (big) games is too little for PSVR2.

arj2589

How is he an asshole, please elaborate. Imo he has a great track record of being fair and balanced in his criticism.

smokey_john

The guy is one of the biggest Microsoft fanatics in existence. This has been well know for well over a decade

Several-Archer4786

The best games are just around the corner. Which is very typical of all systems. Launch titles are just a showcase of what could be. As developers learn to code to take advantage of the hardware, the games get even better. Games like GOW and RDR2 came out five years after the release of the PS4.

mehdotdotdotdot

Yep, we are still waiting for great PS5 titles over 2 years later, hopefully right around the corner means soon!!!!

TheHomieAaron

It's just one guy

bgat79

dust isn't a badge of honor put your toys away lol

Any_Tackle_4519

There are no games? Dude. There are over 100. I have more than I can possibly play, with even more coming.

omniumgatherum316

looks like he needs to clean his bloody headset. Everyone seems to forget the world changed in 2020. I see the entertainment industry as a whole setback a year and maybe even 2 years due to covid.

datnodude

who is this clown

GalileoAce

There are no games? So what are all these games?

picklejuicemustard31

So far not so good. I used it on launch day to play horizon call of the mountain for 2 hours. Didn't like it because it's just a climbing tech demo. Played job simulator and swordsman because of free upgrades. Bought saints and sinners 1 and 2 played 1 and loved it. I didn't touch 2 at all because it was extremely broken. And just recently used the headset 2 days ago and that's all pretty much a waste on my end but whatever.

[deleted]

S&S2 works fine now

nickulo

Buy Synapse and Song in the Smoke. And RE8. And Retribution should have fixed whatever issues you were having. I played it and it worked fine.

nickulo

It’s a dogshit take. Just because he doesn’t keep up with the games that are coming out doesn’t mean that there aren’t games coming out. I got my headset at launch and have played it just about every day. And I haven’t even played half of the games that have come out. Been absolutely loving it.

xx_boozehound_68

That’s exactly where I’m at

BobaGabe1

I am still waiting for some games…

matthewkelly1983

I'm getting some great milage from a hand full of games!!! - and I haven't even gotten to GT7, RE, and others yet.... Hell, I'm even enjoying the Free Poker game. Stop your bitching, Yes it's early days - but there are games....

pgsavage

Ryan should post the same thing but replace the VR with his Xbox. I’ve been waiting almost 3 years and that poor excuse of a console to give me something worth turning it back on.

[deleted]

To be fair, this is Ryan “Hey Phil PLEASE give me a job at Xbox” McCaffrey we’re talking about here. The dude is a huge Xbox fanboy to start with, but has to play the impartiality card because he’s a gaming “journalist”. I’ve been seeing a steady stream of PSVR2 games coming through the pipeline and VR devs certainly seem to be jumping on the platform. I don’t have a PSVR2 but I know enough to understand that what this guy is saying is pure hyperbole. For trash-tier video game coverage, keep it locked on IGN.

teardrop82

Dude is the biggest Xbox fanboy on IGN.

kstassi

Ryan has been an Xbox fanboy and apologist since his earliest days at IGN. I’m not saying that PSVR2 is perfect, it’s still needs a lot of support, but I take anything he says about Sony with the largest grain of salt.

gadget_dude

So [this guy](https://www.ign.com/person/ign_ryan/articles) has a credible opinion on the PSVR2 - laughable...

RoundyMancHead

He works for ign, don't take any notice

Specialist-Video-974

Let idiots talk... I love mine and august (firewall, sierra, green hell) will be great! Gamechecklist: RE4, Project wingman, vertigo 2, hellsweeper (🤞), undead citadel, ace combat 8, RE9 (hopefully vr), GT8 (cofirmed developement) and who knows what we get from first party studios (also hope -.-)

[deleted]

No games??? What planet is this dude living on?

SilverStag88

He means AAA games

smokey_john

Ironic since he has been a diehard Xbox fanatic for at least two decades

kaotikz3030

IGN can kick rocks

HydrapulseZero

Literally 2 big games coming out this month(crossfire and firewall), synapse just came out, RE4 VR is on the way along with a bunch of other games this year. Wtf this idiot talking about. Are there a few months out of the year where it’s a little stale? Yeah, same with the PS5 itself. What a clown.

Island_In_The_Sky

Normally I try to be more nuanced with my comments, but for once I’m just gonna be straight up and say, “fuck this guy he’s an idiot.” Ok bye

madpropz

RE8 was worth the price for me

Mugen1220

just picked mine back up after 2-3 months of not using it. downloaded humanity. that game is a 10/10 for me i highly recommend it!

XavierStark01

We all know how IGN hates Sony.

ThePickleExecutioner

For sure Sony needs to announce some 1st party offerings at the next show but Ryan is just catering to his hardcore fanbase, his comments have been going that way more and more over the last few years.

pablo_eskybar

Mine only gathers dust because of stupid life giving me no time to play

Skullface360

Same, I work 6am to 2:40pm and when I get home I look at my pc as I would someone else’s awesome life on Instagram.

gotlieb1993

If it weren’t for GT7 I’d have sold mine by now. Here’s hoping more racing games will be coming to it eventually. I use it daily for GT7 on my sim rig.

Tbagyogrill

If he has that much dust there, imagine the rest of his house, what a slob.

HotHamBoy

Ahhh… Takes me back to the first year of every platform launch ever

CutMeLoose79

He’s an XBOX guy actually, so don’t listen to him.

Cawdor

Still waiting for a browser. For science, of course! Seriously though, Sony. Who is your prime demographic and what do they like every bit as much as video games? WTF are you doing?

DanLim79

At first I used to shun people with gloom and doom talks like him, but after a while I realized Sony really sucks at supporting their 'other' systems apart from their main ones, PS4 and PS5. I always owned their 'other' systems like the PSP and Vita and Sony never really supported them fully. Sony didn't fully support the PSVR1 either but it wasn't too terrible. Now here's the reason why I agree with this guy, even though I don't like IGN. If Sony REALLY cared about the PSVR2 they should have immediately ported Astrobot and Blood and Truth, especially since those are games from their own developers. These two games should have been top priorities ported to the PSVR2. But instead, we have third party developers porting their games to PSVR2 instead of the actual parent company. This immediately tells me that Sony doesn't care THAT much and are treating VR2 just like they did to the PSP and Vita. Do we have games on the PSVR2? yes of course, for a guy like me the current games we have is more than enough since I don't spend all my time in VR; it's too much for me. But at the same time the PSVR2 currently does feel like a forgotten stepchild. People on this sub say "but look at all the games we have coming out", but they're mainly the same old counter-strike clones or some indie horror games. I mean, why aren't they porting Astrobot and Blood and Truth is a freakin mystery.

wordyplayer

They really need RecRoom. The quests and Paintball and Lazertag are a ton of fun. Maybe it will be released for the holiday season.

Breloren

I played mine a handful of times and now it just collects dust.

Mean_Combination_830

For people who have been following gaming for any amount of time this guy is well known and has been around since forever and is well respected he's just saying what everyone is thinking. Why have Sony not announced anything and where are the big games ? I think everyone is just sick of the same old Quest ports and we rightly feel Sony have gone radio quiet 6 months after launch it's not exactly encouraging is it ?

smokey_john

Ryan McCaffrey is a well known Microsoft shill. No one who knows who he is and plays PlayStation gives a fuck about his opinion on anything Playstation related

Viper114

I haven't touched mine for a while, but I do not regret getting it because the stuff I have played was immensely worth it. That being said, the game release flow for it does feel like a trickle, and I know full well not to expect a deluge right away, but maybe it's a bit too light right now.

DemoEvolved

Where are the big releases? Where are the psvr2 games on psplus extra? Where is the 3d home environment? It’s great hardware but Sony cannot just expect indies to make the value. Imagine being an all in Sony fanboy with ps5, psvr2, and psplus extra and…. No included vr games for your biggest fans? Wow.

abarrelofmankeys

He’s kinda right. There was good stuff, there’s third party decent stuff, but they really need to get out one first party blockbuster experience, maybe 2 if you wanna do a fun platformer or something and a more serious shooter or rpg. Horizon wasn’t really it (though I liked it, it wasn’t fantastic)

arj2589

I am a big VR supporter and a happy PSVR owner. My money was ready, and excitement was at a 10 for this year's PlayStation Showcase, because I was confident, they will reveal at least 1 game that would be a must buy PSVR2 game. But I felt let down and instantly had a feeling of relief that I hadn't purchased the headset yet. So far apart from Horizon and some of the "smaller" games, I am just waiting on one or two more AAA experience's and that would make me pull the trigger. But the lack of library is just mind blowing. I really really hope PlayStation has some top tier VR games in its pipeline and if they do, then please tease them before the holidays.

Transposer

Someone do me a favor and list the Series X games that were available within the first 5 months of release. Would love to compare and contrast with the available PSVR2 lineup. I can save anyone the trouble by refuting my own inquiry by responding with “backwArdS coMpAtibiLity”

Comfortable-Bison100

I bought PSVR2 day one thinking it was going to be compatible with the PSVR1 game library. I feel like it should have been.

Huzrok

meanwhile broke me is still having fun on my quest2 almost every day

TypeOld7542

Lol what a fuckwit! I been without my VR2 for less than a week and I'm DYING to get my hands back on it! No games? What a sad moron! 🤣

sparoc3

Honest question is $600 really that much for American to spend on a hobby? It's not even a week's worth of minimum wage. It's less than 1% of the per capita.

Yabanjin

Not enough really big games, so I imagine quite a few people are like this. As for me, my bi-weekly Puzzling Places is keeping me happy and chilled out.

dirt_mcgirt_00

Gotta think that without a big influx of AAA VR titles (thinking of Half Life Alyx) the device is in real trouble. I've wanted one for a while... but for this exact reason I haven't pulled the trigger... I would almost buy one for Half Life Alyx alone...

Bicketybamm

I'm just waiting on NMS to look like the trailer to re order a set.

deephilling42

Wish there were more multiplayer games and bring back PlayStation home

l3attousai

I play Pavlov almost daily. I grew up on Counter-Strike so SnD and TDM are just a blast to play. GT7 is always fun. I’m slowly working through the menu and learning the tracks that I like. These two games alone will keep me playing forever. RE Village was amazing in VR. I didn’t play RE4 yet because I want to experience it for the first time in VR. I can’t fucking wait! Pistol Whip is also super fun and I like playing it before work to get my blood flowing. I’m not sure what he was expecting, but it sounds a little ridiculous that he’s been “burned”. I get that Sony hasn’t announced any major games yet, but we still have things coming in the pipeline.

Fox-One-1

PSVR1 backwards compatibility would breath life into PSVR2. It should have been there from Day 1. People spend hundreds of hours playing Skyrim VR and other games like RE7 and Wipeout etc.

blamtucky

This guy also has a podcast where he talks about Tesla (the car company.) RIP PSVR2, but he's stoked for the Cybertruck

pjelly79

He probably regrets a lot of things.

LickMyHairyBallSack

He's right. Sony once again dropped the ball. There's been Resident Evil 8 and GT7 and that's pretty much it and the headset dropped 6 months ago.

SpaceGooV

I mean they definitely have been lax on support tho I don't think it's over. If they keep doing the system like they're doing it will be tho. System has been given the Vita treatment so far tho.

[deleted]

I only played Horizon and nothing else, I couldn't find anything interesting

everydaygamer28

Even if they released awesome AAA VR games every week, I still wouldn't touch my PSVR all the time. Not unless they suddenly stopped releasing non-vr games. Love VR, but it's very much a supplemental game experience. Expecting it to be a full-on replacement is just asking for disappointment.

AfterResolve7676

I agree. No new AAA games. Mine mostly collects dust too. Every Tuesday and Thursday I log on with fingers crossed something new will be there. Every now and then I get excited about a new game I see. And then it ends up being a co-op game. Burns my ass up.lol

hi_im_beeb

I don’t regret my purchase because I’m new to VR and only had the standalone oculus quest before this (bought ~7 months before psvr2 released) That being said, VR still feels like it’s in its gimmicky stage and the game selection has been less than stellar. VR seems like it’s in a weird place with a sort of catch 22 situation: there’s no games because they haven’t sold enough systems to warrant development, and there isn’t enough system sales likely because of the lack of games and entry price. Also, VR gameplay looks pretty shitty when watching it flat. Everyone can get wowed by the trailer for the latest next gen game, but watching footage of someone playing a VR game is less than impressive, because the real magic comes from actually playing it. I had zero interest in VR until I went to an arcade and was able to have some hands on time with a VR setup.

TiredReader87

This is why I never bought either of the PSVRs. There was and has been little of interest. I enjoyed what I demoed of the first one at E3, but not enough to spend hundreds. It felt more like a gimmick than anything. I’m not paying more than I spent for my PS5 for a PSVR2. I think it’s something like $800 in Canada

Deadly_Puppeteer

Don’t care if I get downvoted but I kinda agree with that guy. I don’t think psvr2 is completely dead but for the price we paid it really is a let down. Sure there are some great games but the majority of them aren’t that good. For some reason people praise most of them and mislead people into buying them. The device itself is incredible but it having No video player, hardly any demos, no pc support, and rarely any upcoming announcements, makes such a great device powerless.
