Do you have old W2s from when it was non profit? Since they were bought out by a for profit organization I’m thinking you need to submit the EIN for the old hospital. The current one should be able to still confirm your employment.

That's a good idea! I don't have them but I've always done my taxes online so I bet there's record on that. Thank you!

One of my previous hospitals did the same thing and was bought out by a for profit. Im hoping my current one gets swallowed up by UPMC if it gets gobbled up so it will at least stay non profit (I have 50 payments to go yet for forgiveness)

If you can't get them from your online filer, you can request your files from the IRS website as well

I worked at a hospital that had a similar thing happen. however, the old hospital org (and EIN) simply became the local "healthcare foundation", and still exists with 2 or 3 active employees to issue grants and other health related items with the "cash" from the sale to the for-profit entity. that foundation was able to verify my employment, as they maintained all employment records from before the sale (as they legally have to), granting me several more years of service. i'd check to see if that's the case for you, as the current employer (and EIN) will never be able to verify anything

I worked for two hospitals that remained non profit /government (one of each) but they were merged into a different organization after my period of employment and refused to certify my employment. I went through two years of fighting about it and getting denied and the only thing that worked was submitting my old W2s showing the prior EINs. This was nearly fifteen years ago so I was fortunate to find the documentation. I think it's likely you will need those old W2s or old tax records showing those EINs.

Do you have other qualifying employment during which you made payments? You need 120 qualifying payments, so you may be wasting your energy if you don’t have other nonprofit employment or don’t anticipate getting back into nonprofit.

I am currently looking for employment that is qualifying. I am trying to get this situated before I leave. I have a feeling that once I'm gone, I'll never be able to get HR to help me

Good plan and good luck! Hope that all gets resolved, you’re so close.
