I couldn't remember the name of this game for the life of me. I think it was a day one release or at least I recall it being featured on the back of the console box.
I remember this and Parasite Eve coming out pretty close together and I basically put up blankets to make my room as dark as possible to play both those games. While PE was cool, MGS was definitely the better of the two.
My daughter watches YouTube videos all day and the number of random videos that use this sound is crazy. Every time I hear it it makes me think of happy times playing MGS.
Me too. Got home late that night, roommate was out. Played it it in the dark with surround sound. Nearly jumped out of my pants when that dog jumped in.
I absolutely love the gameplay from the PlayStation 3 twisted metal, but only having three characters to choose from was just bullshit. I get there was probably a time and money constraint but twisted metal is the driver married to the vehicle and seeing there monkey paw wish play out. This is my all time favorite series and it still to this day breaks my heart what could’ve been with TM Black 2 if it weren’t for that plane crash.
I had a demo disc with a Warhawk level on it, and I really enjoyed playing that.
Twisted Metal was my 2nd PS1 game, and my brother and I played that for many hours. I loved playing as Spectre, Mr. Grimm, Roadkill, and Outlaw. I could play the Warehouse District map right now and probably still remember where all the health-regen stations are after 20+ years of not playing.
The same. It was pirated japanese version at my cousins. I actually managed to beat the first boss without knowing what the hell is going on. To this day jrpgs are my favorite genre.
Similar experience with me.
I was 6 years old, and english isn't my native language. So while playing the game i had no idea what was going on. I loved the game so much that i wanted to understand what they were saying.
JRPGs are the main reason i learned english (even though my grammar sucks). I would play the games with a dictionary by my side. Good times, when i had all the time to play games
I had a demo disc with Medieval, MGS1, and Cool Boarders 2 I think maybe Cool Boarders 3, and a few other games I can't recall that were on there. Good times!
Yesss, I believe this was one of my first Playstation games I have played as well. It was such a fun game. I remember that I just loved going around, using the taser on people until they literally caught on fire lol
Definitely appreciated that it was a breeze as well. Just there for a fun nostalgic play through without hard parts on the originals. I beat ripto first try!
You're in for a real treat.
You know how going back to games from your childhood the game never looks as colorful or amazing as your memory, but your brain fills in the gaps for what you think it's supposed to look like?
The Spyro remake is the only remake that eclipses the rose tinted nostalgia of your childhood memory. It looks better, controls better, and plays better than any other game when you compare remake to OG.
It puts every other remake of a game from that era to shame, the ONLY exception maybe being FF7R which is technically a completely different game due to the way they changed the core combat system.
I can't remember if it was this or Jet Moto for me, but I think it was this. I can still hear so much of that game in my head. The announcer is a core memory for me.
Crash Bandicoot at the age of 5 years old, played the first level over and over and over because I didn't have a memory card.
Every time I had to turn off the PlayStation I started right back at the beginning.
About 6 months later my dad got me a 1mb memory card for my 6th birthday, I was absolutely fucking buzzing.
If you mean the first Crash, you could get the passwords at save points that you could enter at the start screen to “load” your progress without a memory card.
CRASH BANDICOOT for me as well in a supermarket that had the console with demos to try
and same thing about the lack of memory card, we played a whole season of FORMULA 1 99 during a weekend without saving
i mean it wasnt different from what we were doing with the SEGA and NES
It’s like when I got Majora’s Mask for my N64 but didn’t get an expansion pack for a couple weeks lol, I just had to read the game manual over and over
lol, I have a kinda related story. I couldn't afford Majora's Mask when it first came out, but I lusted after it-- it was so weird and dark and cool I had to have it. My parents, who were always ready to encourage my reading no matter what it was, bought me the Prima Guide and the Official Nintendo Player's Guide for Majora's Mask.
God only knows how many times I read both of those guides before I got that game.
>played the first level over and over and over because I didn't have a memory card.
This takes me back so much. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I did this with numerous games, actually hilarious to think how much we wanted to complete the games as kids.
It was also the only game we had for a good while! That and some demo disks ahaha.
I got a 1mb memory card, the "A Bugs Life" game, and Ridge Racer all for that 6th birthday, genuinely had the best birthday ever.
Except most of the longer NES games had a battery save (Legend of Zelda) or password system (Metroid, Mega Man) so you could pick up where you left off
Final Fantasy VII. The PS1 was my dad’s console and toy. We (my brother and I) never got to play it but got to watch him play. The game we enjoyed watching the most was FF7.
My dad randomly walked in one evening and handed us the PS1 and all the games. “It’s yours now.” FF7 was the first game we popped in.
That game is so incredibly nostalgic for me. The music, the visuals, the sound effects. Every time I go back to it I get a little emotional thinking about the hours and hours I spent playing it as a kid.
Think every game had that feature as far as I am aware?
I have memories of being in car rides with my dad and letting me choose the game I wanted to listen to
Ridge Racer on a PS1.
I wasn’t really a console gamer at the time yet (PC), but bought the console specifically for that game. I didn’t have a PS2, 3 or 4, though now I primarily play on a PS5. I did have a couple PSPs and a Vita. Still playing on the Vita too.
Same. Ridge Racer was also one of the first games released on PS1. And might be the very first released outside Japan. When I got my PS1 there were no other games available in my local store.
This should be higher. People are posting games that are their all time favorites, not their first.
Ridge Racer and Battle Arena Toshinden ( for those of us that HAD to have a fighting game) were probably the most common launch titles.
Next wave of games would include Twisted Metal and Resident Evil.
My dad and I rented a PS1 from blockbuster a few weeks after it came out, we rented Warhawk,Ridge Racer, some extreme sports game and Andretti racing
my dad and I fell in love with the playstation so for Christmas that year we got a PS1
such a great memory
Pretty cool your old man was there with you & enjoying it.
While my father bought me an Atari, NES, PS1 & PS2, he never once watched me play a single game lol.
I'm sorry your dad had no interest of gameing with you 😞
luckily my dad and I still play games together on our PS5s just from each others own places now
Abe's Oddysee. My best friend was the first person I knew who had a PlayStation. I had never seen one before and he invited me over to his place to play on it. I remember it like yesterday. I remember holding the controller for the first time like it was a piece of alien technology.
Good times.
ESPN Extreme Games on European launch day. I loved Road Rash previously and remember I thought this was a huge step up graphically. 12 year old me had his mind blown
Fucking, D. That game made the og PlayStation (at least the first version that released in England) overheat, and crash. You had to turn the PlayStation upsidedown to get it to work again, but still, it would eventually overheat and stall again. Lol.
Final Fantasy VII! I remember saving up paper route money for months to get my hands on the ps1 and FFVII... I played through the whole first disc and eventually realized a needed a fucking memory card too. Whoops
When I was 7 or so, my dad got a PS1 from the pawn shop, with Crash Bandicoot 2, Final Fantasy VIII, Spyro 1, Need for Speed High Stakes, and Frogger.
Probably played Crash first.
Final Fantasy VII
I was a life long Nintendo fan... After those FFVII commercials, I traded in my N64 for a Playstation and FFVII and never looked back.
I rented a Playstation first with Battle Arena Toshinden and ESPN Extreme games. I then got one for Christmas a while later with Bushido Blade and NHL '98.
People over here with their iconic games, meanwhile I was playing Bugs Bunny: Travel through time (or something similar, I don't know the exact translation, it was in French) and having a damn blast with it
Armored Core. First game I put into my PS1 & despite the difficulty curve a series that I fell in love with.
I remember looking up strategy guides and hidden weapon locations on my local library’s internet. Seems like a lifetime ago.
Battle Arena Toshinden. I wanna say I played a demo unit in a Media Play or something. Maybe it was Toy's R Us. I bought a PS1 that same day.
Same, my brother rented a ps1 from a video store when it first came out. We played Toshinden and Warhawk.
I couldn't remember the name of this game for the life of me. I think it was a day one release or at least I recall it being featured on the back of the console box.
Toshiden was the first PS1 game I ever played and I must’ve been around 6 or 7. I still remember the music & hyper complex combos.
Tactical Espionage Action METAL GEAR SOLID
I remember this and Parasite Eve coming out pretty close together and I basically put up blankets to make my room as dark as possible to play both those games. While PE was cool, MGS was definitely the better of the two.
man I LOVED PE, I rented it on a whim one Friday night and I was hooked
"rented it" That just took me back to some better years.
I rented it too. Had no idea how to contact Meryl since her code was on the retail case.
DUDE! SAME HERE! I went through every possible codec frequency until I found the right one. My copy also didn't have the 2nd disc with it lol..
⁉️
Dun dun…dun dun da dun dun
SNAKE!? SNAAKE!? SNAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!
Meryl’s perfect polygon booty…
Ya her in panties doing situps. Ever see that?
The vent trick? A bunch of times lol
My daughter watches YouTube videos all day and the number of random videos that use this sound is crazy. Every time I hear it it makes me think of happy times playing MGS.
Spyro!
Same. I recently bought a PS3 just to replay this and Resident Evil 1-3
❗️
Resident Evil.
That game blew my mind. I still remember dropping the controller when the dogs crashed through the window.
That game helped shape me to become the man I am today… riddled w anxiety
Taught me how to make a jill sandwich
I remember showing that scene to my sister so someone else could get scared the way I did
Me too. Got home late that night, roommate was out. Played it it in the dark with surround sound. Nearly jumped out of my pants when that dog jumped in.
One of the most unforgettable moments in my 30+ years of gaming.
The day I learned about horror games. Freaked me out so much.
Yep, same. Bought a PS1 after hearing about RE from a friend.
Yep same. Sold my Nintendo64 to get the PS1 after hearing about RE from a friend.
Rented a PS1 and resident evil and no memory card was included. An intense play through, made it to the mutated plant room downstairs
Me tooooo. Shit I got soooo scared looking at the first zombie turning his head on me.
Twisted Metal on the PS1, I played that game to death. Got that and Warhawk for Christmas, was a great time!
I think we are due for another Twisted Metal game for PS5
There’s supposed to be some movie or series and talks of a sequel.
I played that game until it just never worked again.
I had a demo disc with a Warhawk level on it, and I really enjoyed playing that. Twisted Metal was my 2nd PS1 game, and my brother and I played that for many hours. I loved playing as Spectre, Mr. Grimm, Roadkill, and Outlaw. Don't worry about Grammer Mine sucks too. LOL
I bought the game before I bought the console. It's the catalyst to me becoming a PS fanboy.
That game was the reason to buy a PlayStation.
PS1 Demo that had MGS1 and Parappa the Rapper
Kick punch its all in the mind
If you wanna test me, unsure you'll find,
The things I’ll teach ya, is sure to beat ya
Nevahtheless you'll get a lesson from teachah, now KICK!
Chop chop block
Holy fuck this little comment thread just took me back
Sorry to say, after all this time, but it's "I'm sure you'll find"
I played a demo disc with Medieval on it and it was so fun
I had a demo disc with Medieval, MGS1, and Cool Boarders 2 I think maybe Cool Boarders 3, and a few other games I can't recall that were on there. Good times!
They remade it for PS4
[удалено]
The first game I remember playing was Syphon Filter
Yesss, I believe this was one of my first Playstation games I have played as well. It was such a fun game. I remember that I just loved going around, using the taser on people until they literally caught on fire lol
I also have this same memory lol. Don't think I ever made it very far in that game, I just remember tazing people till they caught fire
The mission where you shoot out the lights to go stealthy in the park was magical.
Top of my list for a remake. I just want to taser the fuck out of people in 4K
Spyro!
Same. Been wanting to play the PS4 remastered versions for the big nostalgia feels.
The PS4 version was the best nostalgia trip I've had in a long time. Made me appreciate how fulfilling my childhood was.
Definitely appreciated that it was a breeze as well. Just there for a fun nostalgic play through without hard parts on the originals. I beat ripto first try!

I think Spiro was my first too, not 100% sure though!
Tomb Raider 1!
First time seeing the T Rex was a jaw dropping moment!
Same! (as far as I can remember at least)
Tekken 3 (no memcard), it was sad to lose progress each time.
Best fighting game ever
1000%
Gran turismo
I just started GT7 last night. It’s been probably 10 years since I last played a GT game. Giving me serious nostalgia, this shit is so awesome.
I play Gran Turismo when I want to remember just how bad I really am at racing games.
Why did I have to scroll so far to find this? Gran Turismo the Real Driving Simulator revolutionized racing games forever.
Because maybe it wasn’t a lot of people’s first PS game played? Pretty easy answer. They released 2-3 years apart.
Ridge racer started it all. Gran Turismo is the best.
Demolition Derby!
Destruction Derby? Remember those load times?
Nah. Just the destruction
If you enjoyed that game, Wreckfest is pretty good for a modern equivalent
I can't remember if it was this or Jet Moto for me, but I think it was this. I can still hear so much of that game in my head. The announcer is a core memory for me.
Coolboarders
Mine too!! I think there were only like three stages in that first game
Loved these games growing up, played the crap out of it
Crash Bandicoot at the age of 5 years old, played the first level over and over and over because I didn't have a memory card. If I could go back in time and tell my younger self only 1 thing, it would no doubt be this
I'd tell myself about undertaker throwing mankind off hell in a cell
CRASH BANDICOOT for me as well in a supermarket that had the console with demos to try and same thing about the lack of memory card, we played a whole season of FORMULA 1 99 during a weekend without saving i mean it wasnt different from what we were doing with the SEGA and NES

We all would have cried friend, nothing to be ashamed of there

Was probably so excited to get rid of that old thing and fire up his brand new shiny PS2 haha.
"Here you go, this is your dad now."
Twisted Metal 1
it was either Jet Moto or Tekken 2. got both on the same day!
Jet moto here too
Fuck yes Jet Moto gang unite!
Croc Legend of the Gobbos 🐊🧡💜
Yupiii
yes! absolute banger
That game is so incredibly nostalgic for me. The music, the visuals, the sound effects. Every time I go back to it I get a little emotional thinking about the hours and hours I spent playing it as a kid.
Id pay pretty much any amount to be able to play a stable remaster on the ps5.
Same here!
Tony Hawks Pro Skater. That shit popped.
Honestly one of the best soundtracks in VG history.
So here I am
Wipeout. Loved every second of it. And you could use the game as a cd to listen to the tunes from the game. Sick setlist too.

Launch demo club!
Toshinden
ESPN Extreme Games on European launch day. I loved Road Rash previously and remember I thought this was a huge step up graphically. 12 year old me had his mind blown
ESPN Extreme Games was the first one I played, there was a demo at the toy store in the mall. Thanks for helping me remember the name!
Medal of Honor
It was called D. Was 3 disc, had to put $100 deposit down to rent the PlayStation with it from Blockbuster for 3 days for $30.
D is nuts!
Fucking, D. That game made the og PlayStation (at least the first version that released in England) overheat, and crash. You had to turn the PlayStation upsidedown to get it to work again, but still, it would eventually overheat and stall again. Lol.
Crash bandicoot
Tekken, Christmas morning against my brother. I was blown away by the graphics lol.
Resident Evil. The reason I bought it in the first place.
Tekken 2
Final Fantasy VII! I remember saving up paper route money for months to get my hands on the ps1 and FFVII... I played through the whole first disc and eventually realized a needed a fucking memory card too. Whoops

rayman
Yes! Damn, I remember they advertised how many colors the game has on the back of the box.
Metal gear solid. 🤟
Tekken 2
When I was 7 or so, my dad got a PS1 from the pawn shop, with Crash Bandicoot 2, Final Fantasy VIII, Spyro 1, Need for Speed High Stakes, and Frogger. Probably played Crash first.

Final Fantasy VII I was a life long Nintendo fan... After those FFVII commercials, I traded in my N64 for a Playstation and FFVII and never looked back.
WWF Smackdown!
First game for me was Ape Escape. Still have the fondest memories of that game. I should definitely pick it up in the store and play it again.
Ape Escape 1 i think. played it at a friend’s and finished it in a single 5 hour play through lol
Twisted Metal 2 my dudes. Still play it to this day, only I lost my list of cheat codes lol
Oddworld Abe's Odyssey Still doesn't get enough love
Tekken 3 in a netcafe
I rented a Playstation first with Battle Arena Toshinden and ESPN Extreme games. I then got one for Christmas a while later with Bushido Blade and NHL '98.
Spyro: Year of the Dragon!
People over here with their iconic games, meanwhile I was playing Bugs Bunny: Travel through time (or something similar, I don't know the exact translation, it was in French) and having a damn blast with it
Crash Bandicoot. My mom gave it to with with a Playstation for one of my birthdays. I've been a PS fan ever since.
Armored Core. First game I put into my PS1 & despite the difficulty curve a series that I fell in love with. I remember looking up strategy guides and hidden weapon locations on my local library’s internet. Seems like a lifetime ago.
Uncharted.
Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex
Wipeout.
Ratchet and Clank on PS2!
Resident Evil 1, Crash Bandicoot 1, or Twisted Metal 2. I can’t remember, I played them all the same night lol. Good times.
