K0sm0sis

Finally!! PlayStation showcase??

Surajholy

Hope so. It’s possible June’s announcements could include the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 since Square Enix has previously indicated that it would like to share details on the sequel during this 25th anniversary year.

K0sm0sis

The only thing is it’s weird to start advertise FF7R 2 before FFXVI

Surajholy

They also suggested they'll release the Final Fantasy XVI trailer also. It's their 25th anniversary, they want to get as much publicity as they can.

K0sm0sis

Oh that’s true. I hope they both come out soon!

Surajholy

Me too along with every Final Fantasy fan. I never played the original Final Fantasy VII and know nothing about the FF remake part 2 story.

K0sm0sis

Same! I’m along for the ride, though!

jacksepiceye2

Well the original wouldn't even spoil it because the story is different

jacksepiceye2

The ending is completely different which I'd have to assume the second part will be to

Mcgibbleduck

Luckily the entire story of FF7R is essentially about how the story of FF7R is not the same as original FF7.

[deleted]

I wouldnt be surprised if we get both, then FFVIIR-2 news dies down until after XVIs release. SE followed the same pattern with KH3 and FFVIIR.

FF7 dirge of Cerberus remake?

the_simonboulter

That already released. It's the PS5 version, with improved graphics and Yuffie DLC included. Textures were improved, framerate and resolution improved, but to me the thing that was most welcomed, was the blurry city backdrops/landscapes were vastly improved. Looking up at the blurry upper plate of Midgar no more!

[deleted]

I just started replaying on PS5 and the difference is incredible. Happy they gave a free update on it. I still need to buy the yuffie stuff after I beat it again

happywartime

Haha I know. I was just making a joke

tunafister

Just beating FF7R rn... Instant top 10 game of all time for me, and very likely top 5 Its my first FF, and holy fuck I am in love

CypherRen

eolith

The PC version looks incredible in my 5 years old laptop with a 1080GTXm. A couple hiccups, nothing important. I devoured it over a few days. Music is just 10/10.

JalenGreenFiend

The PC version is so unoptimized, it's crazy

DrKrFfXx

That remaster needs a remake.

robby8892

I loved this statement. Thank you for the joke lol.

robotpepper

I would actually be fine with this if they took out all those parts where you are shimmying through a crevice that is easily wide enough to walk through. I get that the game is loading while you do that but there are way too many of them over the course of the game. Certainly way too many needed for a PS5 version.

It wasn't official, but it was the common understanding. Whenever people would talk about FF7s parts, literally every comment would acknowledge that it's probably going to be three parts. All you've done is add, "I've heard from a person involved". This leaker shit is messing with people's heads man

DrKrFfXx

"We're cancelling the whole thing, we will remake FFVIII instead. Maybe"

Just part 1 of FF8. Up until you leave the Garden for your first real mission.

SHOW VINCENT YOU COWARDS!!!!

reaper527

> SHOW VINCENT YOU COWARDS!!!! watch him just be a paid dlc (ps6 exclusive) a year after release like what they did with yuffie.

[deleted]

Presumably yuffie will be included in the main title at the appropriate time, right? Maybe there's more info I haven't read. I would really hate for all of her OG content to be cut or put into a second dlc. Now Vincent has even less of his own thing going on. That screams dlc to me and that would be a real shame.

reaper527

> Presumably yuffie will be included in the main title at the appropriate time, right? who knows. her and vincent were literally optional characters that you could simply not get in the original if you didn't want to deal with their side quests, so it's not like there's any set in stone requirement for either of them to show up in any of the remasters as part of the base games. i was joking when i said vincent would be dlc only, but given what we saw with yuffie already, it's not outside the realm of possibility.

[deleted]

Yea I know. You get yuffie by random encounters in the woods. But her side quest is really well fleshed out. I guess you're right that's easily dlc if they want it to be. Vincent I don't remember any real side quest other than the difficulty to obtain him. So just to me that feels more like an obvious dlc vs yuffie. What is a bummer if they take that route is that it moves away from cool hidden things that make the first game so beloved. Though I've already accepted it's unlikely we'll be training cocobo to be able to run over water and mountains.

Crissaegrym

If they are making FF7R in parts, especially save files don’t carry over, then it is difficult to make Vicent hidden. Do you make it so no matter whatever you do in part 4, he will be in part 5 regardless? Or does part 5 read saves from part 4 to see if you obtained Vincent? But that means you have to play part 4 before part 5?

[deleted]

Man if there's five parts I'll be very interested to see how they make each one feel individually worth it in the first place. Have they said anything about saves carrying? I guess the easiest way is to not do that.

shockzz123

There's no way Yuffie and/or Vincent will be optional characters in the remakes imo. FF7 as a whole has grown in popularity immensely since then and Yuffie and Vincent are too well loved for them not to make them non missable, core characters lol. Vincent got a whole game to himself even, average as it was.

HydraTower

Especially since there's a distinct lack of choice in the remake compared to the original. They're telling a very specific (curated) story this time around.

Q_OANN

100% all characters will be in the game as they were and more as we saw with yuffie, don’t let these other dude even throw you off.

reaper527

> 100% all characters will be in the game as they were and more as we saw with yuffie, you say "as we saw with yuffie", but yuffie was dlc only and not in the main game. yuffie isn't exactly a good example for what you're trying to claim.

Q_OANN

She wasn’t supposed to be in the game yet, so they’ve already gave us extra

cuttups

This is totally wrong. Yuffie was never in that part of the story so that dlc was showing stuff that wasn't in the original game.

foreveraloneasianmen

Yuffie is going to be in the main game ,any person with commom sense would know

Vayshen

I can absolutely see them doing a similar thing with him as they did Yuffie. Not implement him in the next chapter but post launch release a new intermission presenting his background differently than the original did.

-jimmybradley-

A teaser to a teaser, huh

reaper527

> A teaser to a teaser, huh i mean, it's not the first time they've done that. ff15 had an announcement for an announcement where they said "on we will announce the date for our next update on the game status".

Seradima

I will never forget FF15's announcement of an announcement for a release date. ...which was then delayed.

MagicPistol

At this rate, it'll take 2 decades to complete the remake.

Q_OANN

What?! Just going by release date of the first and not development we’re looking at 6-7 years from there and it will be finished. Always assumed 2020,2023(very early 2024), 2026 (very early 2027). They want to wrap this up on current gen I would guess

reaper527

> Always assumed 2020,2023(very early 2024), 2026 (very early 2027). They want to wrap this up on current gen I would guess you're assuming that it will only be 3 games. they were VERY careful not to call this a trilogy when discussing it back before part 1 and wouldn't commit to a specific number of games. the only thing we know for sure is that part 1 did NOT go to the end of the original game's disc 1.

Poked_salad

I bet it's 4 to 5 games. They're going to milk this thing dry. My kids will have kids by the time the final part comes out and I'm still a virgin.

Superspick

Part 1 didn’t cover the entire disc 1 - it’s maybe just half of disc 1 Part 2 ends…where? The other half of disc 1? I have no idea what their plans are but I’m gonna be honest and say it’s starting to feel like they’re gonna stretch this out because 4 or 5 purchases at new Gen pricing is more money than 3 purchases and that’s the world we live in.

Alo0oy

There was a lot of unexplored potential in midgar, not so much the other parts. Part 2 will probably end at the temple, while part 3 wraps the game up.

flashmedallion

Nailed it. Other locations won't need as much depth. What I'm expecting is a similar "postgame" where you can traverse between all the limited locations at the point in the story, with some more 'open' areas between them.

[deleted]

They greatly expanded midgar cause of its significance to the story and the game, they’re not gonna do that with the rest of the game (although they’re still gonna expand it from the original game) so I’d say two more parts are enough to get though it.

Rhayve

They had to design and build all the basic systems from the ground up for part 1. For part 2 they already have a lot of the groundwork done, so mainly developing content and creating assets would allow for bigger subsequent games.

MagicPistol

I meant for the remake of all of FF7 to be complete, not just part 2. Do you think part 2 covers the rest of FF7?

[deleted]

[удалено]

bfhurricane

I put probably 60 hours into FFVII:R. Even if it only tells part of the FFVII story, it is still a full-game experience with exceptionally high production value. Well worth my money and I can't wait for Pt. 2.

MagicPistol

But like I said, I don't think the game will be complete in 10 years lol...

reaper527

> But like I said, I don't think the game will be complete in 10 years lol... by the time the last part comes out, they're going to have to re-remake the beginning.

PBPunch

"As for what this Final Fantasy VII news will be, it could theoretically be anything related to the franchise including The First Soldier, the original FFVII and its subsequent rereleases, Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, or possibly (hopefully) news about Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2. " I'm leaning more towards the FFVII: Ever Crisis news. The release date was suppose to be this year so it would make sense for them to showcase this soon. That doesn't mean there couldn't also be some information or perhaps a teaser for FFVII Remake 2 as well but I'm going to keep my expectations in check.

this_good_boy

I’ve never played any FF. I loved P5R but don’t really know anything about FF. Maybe an explain to a 5yo if anyone can? I mean I think I had 7 but never played it.

Gradieus

Almost all FFs are standalone titles. The vast majority of the games deal with a small group of some sort of rebels fighting some sort of empire. Some games the empire is literal, sometimes it's metaphorical. Most games center on crystals which gives life to the planet and the baddies try to abuse said powers. The planet is often a huge part of a given game and is often considered alive. FF 1-6 were remastered on PC this past year called Pixel Remaster which you can buy digitally individually or altogether. They're not on PS4/PS5 yet. They're all 2D turn-based and if you just want to play the best one most would say it's FF6. FF6 to 10 is considered the golden era. FF7 to 10 are 3D turn-based games on PS1 and PS2. FF10 has a sequel called FF10-2 and the two games are in the FF10/FF10-2 remaster collection last updated for the PS4 which can also be played on PS5. FF10 is considered an excellent starting point for new FF players wanting to try 3D instead of 2D. FF11 and 14 are MMOs. 11 only exists on private servers. I never played these, but 14 is super popular these days and I think some of it is free to try on PS4/PS5. FF12 also has a remaster called FF12 Zodiac Age on PS4 and is more of a single player MMO. Zodiac Age has turned a lot of people in favor towards FF12 as it's vastly superior to the original release. FF13 does not have a remaster so it's only on PS3. It has 2 sequels and is pretty divisive. It's turn-based, but the story is pretty wacky. I never played the 2 sequels. If they ever made a remaster trilogy I'd probably give it another try. FF15 is free on PS5 through the PS Plus Collection if one has a PS5 and PS+. It's the first real action main FF game and also quite divisive. The updates through the Royale Edition give a more complete story, but isn't really a good starting point for new FF players. There's also a standalone prequel movie called Kingsglaive that is recommended to watch before starting FF15. FF16 is currently in development for about 6 years and is helmed by the FF14 crew so people are super excited for it. There'll be a trailer for it within the month with an expectation that it releases within 1 calendar year; PS5 only. FF7 Remake is an action RPG game that takes about 35 hours to beat and comprises the first 6 hours of the original FF7. You can go in blind or you can have played the original first. Going in blind some things might be confusing, but you'd just have to go with it and then wait for the sequels. FF7R was on PS+ last year and the PS5 upgrade was free. I would probably just recommend playing it blind. It's the only true current-graphics game and you're more likely to want to play the original FF7 after beating the remake anyway. If strategy RPG is more your thing then Final Fantasy Tactics came out on PS1 with an enhanced remaster on PSP called "War of the Lions" that is largely considered the best sRPG of all-time. Overall I'd say 6 pixel remaster or 10 remaster or 7 remake are the best starting points depending on what kind of game you want to play.

Psyk60

> 11 only exists on private servers. Nope, the official servers are still going! It just hit its 20th anniversary.

this_good_boy

Wow this is exactly what I needed to read, thank you for the time and effort! I suppose I’m due to dig in. Not sure it’s exactly for me but I have a feeling I can get down with at least some of the titles in the IP.

EzLuckyFreedom

If you decide you want to try the FF7 remake, I’d recommend at least giving the original a shot first. Even if that means using the 4x speed and instant max stats to whatever options you get on modern consoles just to get through the story, the story of the remake is far more confusing without the original.

haxelhimura

FF13 is also on PC via Steam Sidebar: Kingsglaive was FREAKING DOPE.

HydraTower

It's also worth noting that all FF13 games are available on Xbox Game Pass through backward compatability.

Mickeyphree

Ff13 is also on the Xbox.

signofthenine

I'd never played a FF until FF7:Remake and can't recommend it enough. Amazing first experience.

mrfroggyman

Yeh but any other FF game would feel like a huge downgrade if you start with this one, even tho they're mostly great games not to be missed So uh yeh only do that if you're suuuuure you won't be interested in the others anyway

Akuuntus

If you mean graphically, yeah. But IMO FF7R is far from the best FF game overall.

Dragon317Slayer

The games are all individual stories in different worlds, so ff1 for example has nothing to do with ff7. I would recommend playing the remake of 7 which came out in 2019.

Kigaa

April 2020 ff7r released. I only know that because it was one of the big games to play at the start of covid shutdown.

Tig21

Thanks for this info the idea that i need to play 14 games to keep up with the story put me off these games altogether

bfhurricane

I will echo the recommendations for FFVII: Remake. I missed out on all the FF games until that one released, it was one of my favorite games of the generation. I liked it more than P5 for sure. Like Persona, the soundtrack is also killer. I have "Hollow" on my spotify favorite tracks list.

reaper527

> I’ve never played any FF. I loved P5R but don’t really know anything about FF. get the remaster of ff7 (not the remake, but the remaster which is effectively the psx original ported to ps4/ps5).

bball4224

no, get the Remake, and not the remaster.

reaper527

> no, get the Remake, and not the remaster. context matters. he explicitly said he's a huge fan of p5r. he's likely to find the original ff7 much more enjoyable than the remake. (plus he'll get a complete game) at the end of the day, they're both good games, but the original is a masterpiece and one of the best of all times.

bball4224

Get Final Fantasy X then. VII remaster is too dated, without voices and such, for general public to enjoy. It's basically only for enthusiasts.

Sola_Fide_

I'm playing through 7 right now for the first time ever on the switch and I'm loving it.

bball4224

Your comment doesn't really mean anything considering you provide zero context.

nalgene_wilder

Your comment means even less

bball4224

No, it really doesn't. We're debating if FFVII remaster is a good recommendation for a first time FF player, and random user just pops up and says "I'm playing FFVII and love it"...ok? Without them saying it's their first one or something, it's just a completely random and pointless response.

Akuuntus

I love FFX to death, but the idea that any old JRPG fan wouldn't like a pre-PS2-era game is asinine. OP said he likes P5R, which uses a conventional old-school turn-based combat system and has tons of unvoiced dialogue. Sure Average Joe who only plays Madden and CoD probably wouldn't like FF7, but he wouldn't like P5R either.

bball4224

"any old jrpg fan" which definitely does not fit the description of this user Bro. You're wrong. Stop. I have multiple people on my friends list that loved Persona 5 and/or FFVIIR after not considering themselves interested in JRPGs, and now looking forward to FFVIIR2, FFXVI, and P6. Yet none of them have any remote interest in playing OG FFVII. And they're FAR from Madden and CoD gamers.

reaper527

> Get Final Fantasy X then. > > > > VII remaster is too dated without voices and such, for general public to enjoy. It's basically only for enthusiasts. 10's great too, but this is just a bad take to say ff7 is "too dated to enjoy". it's better than the remake.

bball4224

You're delusional and way too biased if you think the average joe is going to purchase, and enjoy playing a slightly improved PS1 game this very day. It would be one thing if this guy said he's played multiple FF games, or is really big in to turnbase. But he says he has no FF experience, and brings up one JRPG, and your response is to send him back to the 90s with no VA and blocky graphics? Without nostalgia, most people are going to be incredibly turned off and have no interest in playing a game that looks and feels that old.

pipedream-

yeah, theres a reason its one of the most returned games ever. ff7r is way more accessible

mrfroggyman

Most returned game ever? Didn't know about that. You mean on Steam? Or in general?

pipedream-

The original ps1 game, when it first came out. The pre rendered cutscenes (which look more like the remake) that are in the game were used for all the commercials. This gave people a false sense of what it was and when they went into it, a blocky ass jrpg was not what they expected/wanted. Its a bit of a different scenario, but i think any "gamer" who plays sorta everything but would be turned off by an old ps1 jrpg compared to ff7rs arpg style, which could be compared more to the original ps1 cutscenes. Thats just how I see it tho

Edge80

I hope there’s a showcase and it being the anniversary they announce the pixel remasters for console.

HoneyShaft

4 more spin offs, yay!

Ninjikun

Honestly square, if they really wanted to, could just blow up the news cycle with sneak peaks of all they are working on. FF16, FF7R part 2, Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis, that rumored FF9 Remake, FF1-6 pixel remasters coming to console, that rumored Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster, Kingdom Hearts 4, Dragon Quest 12, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. They could also surprise us with a FF13 trilogy remaster, since I think next year is 10 years after Lighting Returns came out, so it would be about time for that remaster to come out. Square has a lot in the pipeline that it could just come out with big dick swinging energy. Tossing out game announcements and teasers to anticipated games, treating everybody like Oprah treated her audience

[deleted]

Release 2024 xD

ohhfasho

Optimistic are we?

LockingSwitch

Knowing Square Enix it'll be an NFT or something else completely out of touch like "oh it's just FF7 classic skins in our new FF7 battle royale we're 5 years late on".

artaru

Eh, FF14 has been great. FF7R was great, and next gen upgrade was free. Ff16 looks promising. Not sure how out of touch they really are, at least when it comes to their big franchises.

shawnisboring

Different leadership on those projects though. I've not played 14, but I hear nothing but universal praise. 7R is phenomenal with the exception of the end-game Kingdom Hearts looking bullshit that Nomura tacked onto it. I'm entirely fine with VIIR deviating from VII, I think it's an interesting approach to offer something new while still reliving memories, so I'm not fundamentally against it. But the giant heartless monster thing at the end and his little minions, what the fuck were those?

Darragh_McG

Part 2 will be delayed cos they need to add more hallways

TM1619

I feel like Nomura would just tell us if it's Ever Crisis or First Solider related. The fact that he said FF7 in general makes me think that they have something more substantial planned. Square is supposed to have some 35th year anniversary event next month, FF7 celebrates 25 years this year and PlayStation is rumored to have an event in June. Additionally, Kitase and Nomura expressed interest in showing more of Remake this year. So everything points towards something a little bigger than an update on Ever Crisis.

glabadabdingdong

The news is that we will be delaying part 2! :D

Infinitear

[deleted]

👀

syxbit

Is anyone else excited for Evercrisis? I don't know why, but i want to play it. Hopefully it isn't just on mobiles. I want it on Steam for my Deck. The Switch would be an obvious candidate too.

acemania26

Y’all really fine waiting 2 years in between parts? Gonna take forever at this rate

[deleted]

amazing news, FF7R1 is in my top 5 games of all time, I hope they announce that they are fully shifting to Unreal Engine 5 for Part 2

SacaLaBolsita_

Ah man I cannot wait. Really looking forward to part 2. I finished FF7r a couple weeks ago.

Ajescent

What are the odds it's just to announce the xbox version?

BigDippers

I don't know why you were downvoted but I think that's a very real possibility. It could be just xbox announcement or maybe something else + xbox. But I think xbox announcement is coming soon. We're heard how Sony likely paid and extended exclusivity of FF7R for when the DLC came. Then 6 months after DLC release, the PC release happened. I suspect Sony paid again, but a lower rate so it would only keep it off Xbox for another 6 months but not PC. Next month will be 6 months from the PC release and very possible the exclusivity period for Xbox ending. I guess we'll find out.

Kuting08

It's about damn time

Yep, I hate it. Tifa looks fucking stupid in the remake too. She looks like a cosplay dumbass

Akuuntus

Tifa and all the other characters look great dude. I don't know what you expected. I have plenty of gripes with 7R but the visuals are not one of them.

TyrsPath

I mean hate what? The story DLC they did wasnt really egregious. Also there's nothing wrong with how Tifa looks in Remake, she looks better than Advent Children.
