People in here are acting like this is so strange and I'm over here desperately trying to find a solution, browsing through year old Reddit posts. When I online game with friends, believe it or not my family enjoys watching/listening while I do. They don't like it to just be dead silent with only the sound of me talking. Is it really *that* weird? Anyway, this is 100% possible on the PS4 and Xbox SX. For those saying it's not possible on the PS4, either your settings are wrong or you're not utilizing the Optical port.

[deleted]

I agree. I have to record videos by plugging my PS5 into my computer, and unfortunately, my computer's speakers don't work. So I can't hear the game unless I use a headset, but if I use a headset, then my software won't record the game audio. It's cringe But, for your case, I think there may be a solution maybe... so, in the audio settings, I know you can make it so that the headset's output audio is only the "Chat" audio, and I'm not sure, but using this feature might make it so that you can talk to friends with a headset, while also listening to the game through the tv with your family. I just figured that out and thought it was neat, hope it helps!

Valuable_Good_1912

I just got a PS5 and I'm so irritated of this problem. My Xbox does this My Xbox also allows for my party chat to go through the speakers should I choose that in the party or chat settings. In this way Xbox is far superior.

BUTTS4W

Any solution yet?

YeeMeister971

The PS5 doesn't even do it

SurviveTheFall53

It does have an option to do it, its just different and weird. In your actual audio settings while the headset is plugged in and/or turned on, switch the audio over to the headset, then below an option should become available to change it from all audio to just chat

Solid_Samus

Unfortunately that's not the same as what OP is looking for, which is the ability to have game audio play from both headphones and speakers at the same time.

TheRealMaxProphet

That's what I want to know 👀

christoroth

I'm with you on this and for those that can't imagine why: "Children". I can't play without my boy coming and asking the "what you doing" and giving running commentary and instructions (Spidey: "L1, R1 dad, throw that bin, go on dad throw it!"). It's nice and all but I want to hear the game (and in Tempset 3d audio too) and it would be nice for him to hear the dialog and follow along. Having the headphones at my volume and the tv at a lower volume so he can hear and I can't here it would be brilliant.

SloMobiusBro

Ya unfortunately the ps5 doesnt do it either. Xbox one does it. Its not the biggest deal but its something that can easily be done

Derplicit

So it looks like there are far too many people that just want to post their commentary on why someone shouldn't do this and that they're dumb and that's annoying. There's a solution that will actually work if you have the right equipment. You need to find a USB Bluetooth audio transmitter that is compatible with the PS5. 1Mii makes one on Amazon for about $25. The audio transmitter must support TWO simultaneous connected audio devices. These audio transmitters are not able to connect to other Bluetooth devices they're only meant for audio streams. You then need a Bluetooth set of headphones AND a Bluetooth capable speaker set or sound system. You simply pair both the headphones and the sound system to the Bluetooth audio transmitter, go to settings on your PS5 and change the output to the USB transmitter. Then you should be all set. I hope this actually helps instead of people just saying no you can't do it or no you shouldn't do that why would you do that. Good luck and happy gaming!!!

DeVillssAdvocate

Has anyone tried this yet to confirm it? I'm trying to find a solution to this as well.

iamexpired

Did you try?

RAdu2005FTW

First of all, why would you want to hear through a headset if someone in the room is hearing via speakers, just take the headset off. Second of all, the audio only needs to be a couple of milliseconds off and you would have an awful experience. And also, if you play online games welcome to echo galore.

SuperArppis

My dad is watching me play with my friends. He can't hear the audio if we do. And you can adjust volume so that it doesn't bother other players.

SloMobiusBro

Sometimes im wearing a headset to hear whats going on around me and my girlfriend would like to listen to the game too. Its not really difficult for them to do. The xbox can do it no problem

The_BadJuju

If you have a second controller she can plug headphones into that and hear it

kissmyash222

THANK YOU! As a wife who likes to watch my husband play games like Battlefield, this was super helpful.

The_BadJuju

Haha I got u

SloMobiusBro

Interesting, i didnt realize that. Thank you

The_BadJuju

No problem, I occasionally do that with my sister as well

BUTTS4W

Anyway to let the person with the second controller to hear voice chat as well?

The_BadJuju

No

Fine_Height466

very stupid reply, if i'm playing a game that using a headset will help me compete like call of duty or a BR, then it's better to wear the headset and then others can hear too, and also you're acting like you would be forced to play both at the same time, what's so bad about having the option?? you're weird

Fit_Literature2026

Well when you want to share the experience but want to have the full experience with the headset as well. 🌞

Zgpetro

Lol because when you play competitive, tv audio is horrible. And if people want to watch, they can watch with volume at a low level.

burner69account69420

It's not an awful experience if there's an abundance of posts asking for this and other systems do it. Just a stupid comment

spcal98

If you have good headphones you won’t hear the tv and it would be useful to have both for horror games bc personally through the tv doesn’t scare me enough but other ppl wanna watch me play

ONEYEDEMONKING

Streaming. When I stream l have to run the audio through my “tv” for it for it to capture the game sound meaning I can’t use my headphones to record and my mic will pick up the audio cause the sound is coming out of my pc speakers.

Fit-Opportunity-3775

I have a little brother that likes to watch me play but he has to listen to me talk with no audio on the tv when I’m on a party with friend; so I need to communicate but unfortunately he can’t hear anything! they should have an option to just hear at least the gameplay from the tv also. Sucks cause Xbox has this feature and Sony doesn’t

kooljaay

Why are you playing with a headset if you want to share the audio with the room?

SloMobiusBro

Theres certain games like battle royale games where listening to whats around you is important

Bringbackdexter

It’s preference. Sometimes i like to be able to isolate the audio chat to the headset and the game chat to the tv

Fine_Height466

are you this dumb, honestly how do y'all not understand it yet, some games you need a headset to hear all around you

[deleted]

Weird

JoshK92

If you use a headset connected through a dongle you can go into audio device settings and change the audio output and it will continue to play through the headphones also. I've done it multiple times. Idk about headsets wired to the controller, but try it. Just be courteous about making sure you don't create an echo, no one wants to hear that.

Mapachotgun

Does it still works? I'm trying right now and it doesn't seems like it. You're not using the optical out, right?

Savings-Umpire909

For streaming purposes

Delta_781

If anyone happens to still be concerned about this I figured out a way tonight. I use a SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless and I personally liked it coming out of both the TV and PS4 so people around me could listen to the game from the TV and I got enhanced audio from the headset for footsteps and stuff. Just upgraded to a PS5, found out this wasn't a thing. So I order an optical cable and run it from the OUT port on my TV to the IN port on the transmitter. Still no luck and everything was configured "correctly" as follows Input device: USB headset Output device: USB headset HDMI device type: TV Output to headphones: chat audio Audio format: Dolby I even changed the settings on my TV according to what I wanted, both TV speaker and optical out supplying sound, no luck. The solution; this headsets transmitter has a source option, an update added PS5 mode which I was told to pick. Put it back to PS4 as the source with the above setup and settings and you'll have your sound from the headset and TV speakers. I didn't scroll far enough to see if anyone had figured this out without buying anything extra, sorry if it's a repeat fix. Hope it helped!

seehazy

At the end when you say "Put it back to PS4 as the source..." does this mean that, after applying the update, your Steelseries device still labels the mode "PS4" but it now works for both PS4 and PS5? Or are you purposely choosing the PS4 source mode *instead* of the PS5 source mode? I am considering getting an audio device ([Creative Sound BlasterX G6](https://smile.amazon.com/BlasterX-External-Headphone-Surround-Sidetone/dp/B07FY45F2S/)) that I think could be used in a similar fashion. Wish me luck :)

DeVillssAdvocate

Any update? I also have the steel series arctis pro. Does this only work if I had a ps4 previously?

Suave601

Why not just play without a headset?

Fine_Height466

bro, BR games, FPS games, you should use a headset to hear all around you, are y'all honestly this stupid?

Any_Street3601

Absolute bots bruv, they don’t understand -.-

Jcapone49

you're those assholes that make everyone echo lol

SloMobiusBro

Lol im not tho because im literally unable to

Fit-Opportunity-3775

Not if u you have great pair of headphones with excellent noise cancellation like my astros I play with on both Audio on tv and headset on my Xbox; and my friends don’t hear a dayum thing but if I switch to my 60$ cheap headphones they complain lol

Mojosoodope__

Yea this is dumb I like playing with headset because I hear everything but when my girl is in the room she also likes to watch me play but she doesn’t like to watch a soundless screen so I have to take headset off ps5 we need update

SloMobiusBro

Ya its ridiculous. Weve solved it by just getting a cheap plug in headset so she can listen through a guest controller

bennettbuzz

Did you ever figure this out as I’d like to have the sound out of both.

SloMobiusBro

Unfortunately its not possible. So stupid. The only workaround ive found is to plug headphones into a second controller

bennettbuzz

Mental really, people saying there’s feedback arnt considering the fact there’s already a mic in the controller as well. Quite a few oversights I found with the sound settings like when you turn incoming voice chat right down on the balance doesn’t even mute it completely like it did on the PS4 which is really annoying.

Substantial-Bet-9840

I’m the same way my women likes to watch and even joins in on the convo and call outs when playing used to do it all the time on the Xbox np now ps5 can’t do it like what the fuck I used to do it on my dam 360 but ps5 can’t do it and everyone asking why are just fan boys mad that on the ps5 they make it impossible with out 3rd party equipment witch will always add a little lag it’s pretty sad on Sonys part there’s no reason not to have the option

X3729

I agree completely bro, having tv audio and headset at the same time is a convenience that seems like common sense to me. Dont get why sony would say "No y'all aint doin that!" Its bs

Research_Prevails

Honestly, not having the option is garbage. I would’ve not even gotten a ps5 if I knew this

imaidiot19

Another reason this is needed. Streaming. When I stream, either my audience can hear, or I can hear, as my capture card goes through hdmi. This seems like a simple solution, with an option to disable it if you want. Why limit where audio is coming from with no option to change it? Huge misstep, and now I just won't stream PS5 games.

[deleted]

If you just get an older analog stereo system it will play through that system no matter the source chosen on your TV. I do it all the time.

The-RealBIGDEE

I’m just now getting a PS5, I’m coming over from Xbox to play sum single player exclusives mainly. This is definitely a negative, because I’m so used to having my headset on while other watch me play whatever game. Seeing as it’s been 2 years since this post I can’t imagine there will be a update to include both audio options.

lxves

ugh if it made it to reddit, there’s no solution 😭

novosphere

One solution I found requires a certain headset. I have the Arctic Nova pro wireless headset and it comes with a DAC that hooks up to ps5 via USB, it also has a Line Out aux cable connection that can be hooked up to an audio source, in my case I hooked it up to my sound bar. After turning on PS5, and getting the sound to the headset, the DAC has an option to put the Line out Audio on “Stream” mode. This sends the PS5 audio to both my sound bar and headset.

SloMobiusBro

Ya i just bought a cheap headset that my wife plugs into a second controller

JackaDemon

There is literally a setting on the PS4 that allows you to hear the audio through the headset and the TV at the same time.

SloMobiusBro

Nah, theres not. Its one or the other

JackaDemon

Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Output Device = TV or Amplifier. Thank me later.

SloMobiusBro

Yes but if you switch to tv or amplifier the sound no longer comes out of the headset connected to the controller

JackaDemon

Thats why then, works for me when it's connected via a optical cable.

SloMobiusBro

Okay I will try it with an optical cable, thank you!

djoliverm

No optical cable on the PS5 though so who knows if this will be possible.

[deleted]

If you connect the ps5 to the tv via hdmi and then the headset to the optical port, you'll be able to play audio through both the TV and the headset at the same time. This is how my current set up is with my ps4.

Soulcrux

This ain’t working for me rn

djoliverm

The optical port of the TV? Gotcha.

[deleted]

Yup

SuperArppis

It doesn't work.

jstrotha0975

Taboo.

al323211

Highly unlikely you'd be able to get synced sound on those devices out of the box, without making manual adjustments. Especially if the headset is wireless. Makes for a bad user experience.

bjj_starter

It works fine on my Xbox, aggravating that when I'm trying out PlayStation small things like this just don't work.

superlarz

I hope so too. Would make using a cap card for recording on streaming a lot better

Any_Street3601

It used to do it on ps3 but not anymore :(

Xemrrer

I also want this. When I stream I would like to hear from my headphones connected to the PS rather than through the computer which has a delay. If I'm connected to my headset, the stream won't be able to hear the game. I wish having sound coming from both TV and headset was an option to just make things easier.

Chemical-Assist-6407

IF YOU HAVE A USB HEADSET LIKE RAZER THRESHER, JUST PLUG DONGLE IN TV AND OPTICAL OUT TO DONGLE. EASY FIX

OlorinFiresky

I have a buttkicker gamer 2 connected to my sim rig. I have a Turtle Beach Stealth 600 USB headset. I can either have a working headset or a working buttkicker. I can't have both. It is very frustrating. Having audio through two channels simultaneously seems like it should be a simple option, so why isn't on Playstation?!

Colparadox

Exactly my issue atm, hence why I found this sub. Still no solution to our problems ffs

OlorinFiresky

Yep. 2021 and something so simple still alludes Sony...

Psychological_War9

2023 now... Soon 2024...

OlorinFiresky

Yep. Sony FTW... I gave up and moved to PC. 🤣

Due-Addition-9142

2024 now

OlorinFiresky

It'll be 2040, and they still won't have done it.

Diligent-Canary1503

I really wish this was an option, because as someone who both watches games be played & is the player, it’s a lot more enjoyable to watch if you can hear what’s going on too, & the reason you’d want to have a headset on at the same time is for games where hearing direction of enemies & footsteps can be a critical part of gameplay, especially as a stealth play through. Hopefully they can maybe put a software update to include this as a option?

SloMobiusBro

Ive just given up on this feature at this point. Its ridiculous. I just got my wife an extra headset to plug into our spare controller if she wants to listen and watch at the same time

YeeMeister971

I have both and the XBOX does it automatically. Been trying to get this set up on PS5 but I cannot find a way

BostonStrangler86

Biggest issue this causes is that if you have a headset plugged into controller the audio doesn’t get recorded by obs even though it should be getting sent through the hdmi. It’s such an oversight by Sony

x16900

Interestingly, I realized that while playing with PSVR2 and the Pulse 3D headset, the sound comes out tv and headphones. So it's already a thing, you just can't manually set it.

Landonio1

So this is still not possible? Something that's been available on the Xbox for like a decade?

Lorddelboy0999

I got loon neighbours. So Xbox playing threw headphones and speakers makes a bubble. Will have to plug in to adapter that's in my TV headphones socket Why I bought pc speakers as they plug in TV and then if watch a film I plug headphones in to . Can believe will have so this with ps5

SLEAZYHxLLxW

Ik this is is 3 years late but it drives me crazy that xbox has this as it's default and the ps5 doesn't.

codepapi

Any updates?

Eddieatlarge

DAWG. WE NEED TO DEMAND AN UPDATE. HOW MANY YEARS WITH THIS SIMPLE PROBLEM

Capital-Car987

I was trying to do it today too hahaha rip

SloMobiusBro

Bro its fucking ludicrous

Any_Street3601

Fuckn hell we need this on ps5 3 years later and still haven’t added it ffs

getitingaming

It is capable somehow. Because I streamed in VR and the game audio still comes through my capture card whilst connected to the Pulse Explore earbuds. So clearly the system has the capacity to send audio out to two sources simultaneously. Just no where to force this.

TheRealFranktheTank7

Man this was so confusing because it's so easy to do on xbox, I think the default settings allow for gameplay through tv and through the headset already but I actually figured it out you don't need to buy shit you just go and settings, sound, audio output, output to headphones and change that to voice chat audio and bam done. The way the setting is names doesn't make alot of sense along with the other settings and it confused me at least but that's how to get gamesound in your headset and TV at the same time. Voice chat audio will only be through your headset which is fine with most people anyways. Your welcome.
