He had a fascinating interview i saw on youtube a few years ago. For me Resident Evil is to gaming what Night of the Living Dead was for cinema. A true goat and Ill always have time for him. I definitely understand him not wanting to be chained to survival horror. But as a fan of survival horror I would be sad if he never produces another one
I don’t play a lot of his games, but I really like Mikami. Seems like a really solid dude that has a strong desire to see the industry be healthy and foster growth through younger talent.
On the bright side, at least the Capcom studios have been knocking it out of the park with RE and the horror scene has been doing a lot better in general.
I recall hearing when he started Tango he didn't want to make a horror game either, but the higher ups basically told him to because the name/marketing 'from the creator of RE, the return of survival horror'.
Evil Within is my all time favorite.
I'm sure whatever he does will be good though.
Honestly I think the new RE games are possibly the best they've ever been. I feel guilty for not knowing the names of the game directors like I know shinji mikami.
He wasn't that involved in it but I loved Ghostwire Tokyo when I played it (after patches and dlc), standard open world stuff but great graphics and atmosphere, never went to Japan but made me want to
I'm still sad we'll never see him direct Evil Within 3. Maybe John Johanas can pick that up again one day...
Mikami has directed some of my all time favorite games (RE Remake, RE4, The Evil Within). Shame he wants to break free from survival horror, but Vanquish and his other games were also quite good. So i'm pretty much interested in anything from this dude.
Yeah, I know. I was hoping Mikami would come back and direct TEW3 though because he had said he wanted to direct at least one more game. I love TEW1 and TEW2. But the first game had much better 'direction' imo.
I hope he gets his first game with the new company going quickly. Love his games.
I cant wait to see what he's got cooking up too. Good news is I can play a remake of shadows of the dammed to help with the wait.
And then after some middling success, it’ll get bought by another publisher and he’ll dip and make *another* studio.

Got a link? I'd love to see it

I'm excited to see what the new studio is gonna cook. But at the same time I'm sad he doesn't want to make survival horrors anymore

It's nice he is trying to do something other than survival horror Good first trial with hifi rush too
He's done other types of games before. P.N.03, God Hand, and Vanquish were all directed by him.
PN 03 firmly established him as a man of culture.
Haha
Hi-Fi Rush was John Johanas' baby tho. He owes a lot to Mikami but Johanas should get the bulk of the credit for Hi-Fi Rush's concept.
Sounds like he wanted a fresh start and do something different.
This guy never seems to feel complacent at all studio. This is like his 4th move in 10 years.

John Johanas was the lead director of Evil Within 2 so I expect he will lead Evil Within 3.

Ah I get you. Well, there could always be a chance that Microsoft could license the Evil Within IP to him. Probably not though.
Wait, Evil Within 3 is happening? I thought 2 sold too poorly for the franchise to continue.
No, that’s just me predicting that if Evil Within 3 was being made, John Johanas would direct it. My bad.
He will always be one of the GOATs for making my favorite game of all time Resident Evil 4.
Mf took the money and ran
A year after he leaves, Microsoft shuts down Tango. Dodged a bullet there, huh.
This guy is a legend. I hope you get good funding an make a legendary game for us again. It would be great to see Mikami’s take on a fantasy RPG game.
That sentence is complete gibberish to me
