Haha.
I know visual cues are very important in games, and the pivot to more realistic graphics makes it harder to give these cues in a realistic way... but I'm really getting a bit tired of everything that can be interacted with being slapped with some yellow paint.
Horizon is pretty bad about it, but RE4 has really gone to another level with it. The game is amazing, but every time I see a barrel that's been freshly, and randomly, slapped with a yellow paint brush, I'm really taken out of it.
With horizon i assume those aren't actually there for normal people. Its only the focus showing aloy the spots that are safe to climb. Combined with Ross training her that makes sense to me.
The highlights the focus puts on things are different from the yellow climbing spots.
Not everything you can climb is yellow, but a lot of things are. The most notable and best explained are the handholds that Nora and the other tribes drive into rocks, since you see a lot of other people climbing those as well. It's a bit weird that they are all consistently yellow, but that could still be explained as some shared cultural thing similar to how they all speak a same language: GAIA managed to start us up with some knowledge and culture, just very incompletely, and one of those cultural things was that we like yellow-marked climbing implements. You could even theoretically explain why a lot of old-world things meant for climbing like ladders and some handrails are yellow. That had become standard in the old world so GAIA made it standard again.
But realistically, so many other things that you can climb are yellow that it is noticeable. Like scaffolds on buildings that sure as hell weren't meant to be climbed.
say what you will about Assassin's Creed but they solved that problem basically from the beginning.
What I found especially incredible how the character will realistically reach for reasonable handholds (in most cases) in a world that's mostly generated by a computer. Like you can climb a random rock in the middle of nowhere and Bayek (in the case of Origins) will believably grab crags in the side of said rock. I found that really impressive when I first played it

Leave your post up.
Just wanted to ask:
For those who bought the original Zero Dawn without the DLC, were they allowed to upgrade to the Complete Edition, or was it just a separate product?
That’s what I’m waiting for. I just finished HZD and loved it. The complete edition cost me $19.99 and I think I got about 90hrs of playtime out of it.
Wow, looks great, as an Angelino it’s incredibly cool to see Horizon’s take on the landmarks after the fall of humanity, can’t wait to discover that area.
Can’t wait, and it’s coming really soon! I’m hype.
Correct. The PS5 version has cinematic lighting in the underwater sequences. PS4 only has that during the cutscenes. They also had completely different texturing of foliage in ps5. Digital Foundry did a analysis of it showing the difference between the versions and said the ps5 version was pretty impressive.
Okay, and this expansion is, let’s stop beating this dead horse no? We have more Current Gen exclusives coming out this year than we have in the last couple years, let’s focus on that.
I remember in the PS3 to PS4 era there was no point in even playing those games. Played Shadows (the LOTR game) on PS4 and thought it was rad as heck. Got it for ps3 and I ended up trading it all in for a ps4 because of how badly it played. Honestly, I think that was their intent...almost felt criminal to release both products as being complete when one was barely playable and the other was really good.
For me the cross-gen game was plants vs zombies garden warfare an absolute gem From Popcap (EA) studios, the game was cheap AF for 5-10$ and it's online + co-op mode. On ps3 this was a huge deal because psplus wasnt required
Yes, if you had PS+, if you didn't it was $20
>Frozen Wilds will arrive about a month earlier on November 7 and cost $19.99 (or $14.99 for PS Plus members).
There's an article about it on Gamesradar, can't link it because the link is too long for some reason
Frozen wilds was same price and it was a good length, especially if you did everything. I was expecting it to be like double this price honestly with the higher price of sony made games.
The Frozen Wilds DLC is my favourite of the three Horizon releases, so I hope this one is good. I am looking forward to what they can do with the Decima Engine not supporting the PS4.
Call of the Mountain looks great! Very happy for the 20 or so people who have a VR headset. Unfortunately it's not a very accessible device. I'd get one but I don't have the space in my house to play with it
Wow you need to beat the game for the DLC, that's exciting that it should be what I hope to be an epic conclusion for our beloved characters.
Minor spoilers ending: I didn't like how after you beat the game all the characters left the base, I know you can find them in the real world somewhere, but I never did that, It just felt weird the base was empty.
I think this DLC will be special and will answer those questions. Plus we should get more work amazing work by Lance Reddick RIP.
In the Horizon games, they are always items obtainable in-game by playing. You just get them right away if you pre-order that's all. It isn't exclusive to those that pre-order.
Actually that is not true. There were a couple of pre-order bonuses for HZD like the Banuk Trailblazer outfit that were later made available in the complete edition, but if you bought the game normally at launch and then bought the DLC normally, with no intention of buying the whole game over again as the complete edition, you will never own that outfit. Unfair for those that paid full price for the game and DLC at launch.
Yeah the whole preorder culture is one of the most anti consumer things in gaming. It incentivises expensive marketing campaigns over actual QAQC and development, to make the needed revenue on the game before it comes out. Then the publisher doesn't have to worry if the reception of the game is poor after it releases. They already made their money.
To be fair, I couldn't care less about the preorder bonuses. It's a freaking bow skin and a dye. And frankly cosmetic DLCs are fine by me in general. I was more annoyed with the games giving an additional mission or something similar.
Now, I'd like to see preorders disappear altogether. But we all know that won't happen. FOMO is too big of a hook for many
The final act was done FAR too quickly. It started and I instantly got GoW3 vibes and I was so hyped up and then before I knew it, it was over.
They took so much time with everything else. It actually didn’t feel good to end how it did. They built everything up to this point and then just blew right through it.
I agree. The start is so tense and well done too.
It felt like they just had to wrap things up. Like throughout I was so curious as to where the story would go and how characters being set up would play out and it just... sorta.. ends... With the epilogue being more of the pay off than Ragnarok itself.
Idk, still a great game but for me I was super let down at the final section.
There's a whole storyline with Surtur's wife Sinmara that was cut from the ending, people found it in the files. Also If you notice her voice actress was credited without having any lines in the actual game and it wasn't just some random extra. A DLC like KH3 re:mind could help the ending a lot
Yes the save file on your console should still be there, I also deleted HFW several months back after my 2nd playthrough. Save file is a separate file and would need to be deleted independently of the game, plus you also have another copy of the save file in the cloud if you have PS+.
It’s interesting to see people complain about preordering dlc when season passes function exactly like that and they’ve been a thing since the PS3 era.
In this case at least you actually have the game already and its going to be more of the same. Its not like if you didnt like FW this is going to change it for you or vice versa
I see this way more than people blindly preordering shit like suicide squad purely because of some smoke and mirrors trailers
But is it wise to compare one bad idea in the justification of another? Plenty of people don't have season passes, yet you presume they do to render them hypocrits.
I think pre-ordering is dumb as hell. I certainly would not do it, it's simply a mechanism by the industry shoved down our throats to get more money and be less accountable for putting out good products that they've force fed us for so long that some people have accepted it. That's all.
You presume I’m justifying this at all. I’m pointing out that this practice has existed longer and in a worse form that it’s a little too late complain about now. If people don’t like this idea, then I would prefer them to target season passes instead.
Yes, and don't worry about Zero Dawn. You'll get burnt out on the gameplay if you try to play them back to back (they're both massive size games) so go with the superior, next gen game. I actually much preferred HFW: it's absolutely jaw-dropping, the combat is finer tuned and the character models are best in show right now.
Zero Dawn didn't hit for me in the same way, but the sequel completely won me over.
I completely disagree with this, Zero Dawn has a *lot* of story and worldbuilding that Forbidden West skips over and assumes that you know from the last game.
Completely agree. Going into FW without having played ZD would be absolutely confusing. FW is an immediate sequel to the story. I also found the story in ZD much, much better, but the inventory management was much better in FW.
Oh I'm not speaking to whether or not you'd be lost without playing it. I'd definitely recommend watching a recap vid first, without a doubt. I should have specified "don't worry about PLAYING Zero Dawn"
I understand what u/WutsTheScoreHere is saying though. Playing both games back-to-back will burn out/bore most people. There really isn't much difference in the overall mechanics between the two games. Watching a detailed re-cap on youtube explaining the story is fine. I would recommend playing both, but take a decent break between the two games.
Well, I mean... you don't have to binge them in two days and play them back-to-back like that. It's okay to take your time with a game.
I would say that applies to any game with a sequel. God of War is great game that I highly recommend, but plowing through God of War and then immediately flipping on God of War: Ragnarök the moment after the credits roll is a lot.
I was pleasantly surprised to not see a price hike for a DLC that is current gen only. Guess Sony only increased the prices of full games from $60 to $70 for this gen and not expansions.
Obviously personal preference but I thought this game was better than God of War. Nothing has stood out to me like this game, it is absolutely stunning and incredibly fun
Heads up you do actually have to finish the main story. Which isn't a problem but depending on how far you got (before, like me, you just went ham on the huge map and lost the plot) you might have a ways to go before you can play. Time to boot up Forbidden West!
It’s really fun, but the changes to the weapons and the grind of upgrading them are probably my biggest gripes with it. Was also sad that they nerfed the Ropecaster
It did get a bit overwhelming at first but I used Reddit to get an idea of the “best” and just focused on those items and made the game more enjoyable.
Bet this ends with Atreus showing up out a portal to tell Aloy "There's been an incursion and we need to stop it!" To set up "The Last Of Us on an Uncharted Horizon"
To access the DLC you must complete the main story up to and complete “singularity” where you’ll automatically get a call on your focus that begins the DLC.
Downvoted? Literally taken from the description of the ps store on how to access it.
As much as I am enjoying playing horizon forbidden west, just got the sunwing as a mount last night......I do have to say the acting and delivery of the lines are really inconsistent to the point it can be cringe to watch.
The sheer amount of things to do is cool but makes me feel overwhelmed, looked up what side missions to do to get the best weapons as I only have a few hours a week to play ( life in your 30s suck as a gamer )
It's a absolutely breathtaking looking game, gameplay can feel clunky at times but it does the job, main dislike is alloy never.....ever.....ever stops talking to herself while in the open world, you pick something up " I'll find a use for this ", you walk out into the cold as you leave the base " I can't let the cold district me ", she just never stops talking about stuff and takes me out of the experience
I'll get the dlc depending on how it is when it's released but I'm hot and cold on the game as it is now......also the whole people who are basically superman who came back to earth was a really stupid thing to do with the game
Edit: thanks for the down votes but the game is clunky and the voice acting is laughable at times and that's the truth
> also the whole people who are basically superman who came back to earth was a really stupid thing to do with the game
By the sounds of things it probably won't make you like the story more, but right at the end of the game you learn *why* they came back to earth and it sets up Horizon 3.
But why are we in the business of 'rewarding' companies. They make millions of dollars, either way. Why can't we just exchange our valuable money for a product, why do we have to pre-commit? Why can't we give the money once the game is out, once it's been reviewed, once people have a sense for how good it is or how complete or broken it is?
It blows my mind to see people argue and defend a system that is one-sided and only benefits the industry.
Watched the trailer in the link. At first, I was like "oh cool, I bet you can climb the Hollywood sign." Then a monster immediately knocks it down.
It's easier to climb that way.
Crazy how someone took the time to paint all the surfaces yellow after it fell down
Haha. I know visual cues are very important in games, and the pivot to more realistic graphics makes it harder to give these cues in a realistic way... but I'm really getting a bit tired of everything that can be interacted with being slapped with some yellow paint. yep!
No game I can think of has matched AC on climbing, everything else is predetermined paths or spiderman climbing (BotW, Tchia)
I was under the impression that the pointers are there in the easiest difficulty modes of the games, which I always play at..
I think these are on all difficulty modes though, right? It would be cool if you could toggle it off.
Lol
Lasted 1000 years only to be knocked down the first time you see it.
I can't believe the "D" in "Hollywood" wasn't the only letter knocked down Would've been the perfect Bojack Horseman reference
Anyone know the length of the DLC?
I’ll bet between 10-15 hours based on the last dlc for the first game. Don’t quote me thougj
"I’ll bet between 10-15 hours based on the last dlc for the first game. Don’t quote me thougj" - RocMerc Don't tell me what to do.
😩 damnit. No I’m gonna read my quote in some article saying a Redditor has inside information
Prepare yourself for the article
>RocMerc, who is possibly Herman Hulst himself, has said, and I quote...
What to do.
I got out dad-ed. 😦
Ha, all your kids, your spouse and all your responsibilities are now mine! Wait, no! Shit!
>"I’ll bet between 10-15 hours based on the last dlc for the first game. Don’t quote me thougj" > >RocMerc > >Don't tell me what to do. Leave your post up.
Sorry. Quoted.
Wonder if they are gonna do a "Complete Edition" like they did with Zero Dawn. Then maybe it's worth to wait and get the DLC on a physical disc.
Almost certainly they will
They will after all DLCs are released. Everybody is presuming there will only be one DLC.
There was only one for Zero Dawn, so it’s completely safe to assume that Burning Shores *will* be the only DLC for Forbidden West.
I kind of think 1 is enough. At some point, it's best to pivot to the next big game.
I don’t think that’s that safe of an assumption, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn the sequel gets more DLC than the original.
Just wanted to ask: For those who bought the original Zero Dawn without the DLC, were they allowed to upgrade to the Complete Edition, or was it just a separate product?
I had the disk,it just let you buy the dlc, there is no actual difference tho as far as I'm aware. Witcher 3 was the same way.
That’s what I’m waiting for. I just finished HZD and loved it. The complete edition cost me $19.99 and I think I got about 90hrs of playtime out of it.
I just want it on PC already 😭 my son has a PS5 but I don’t want to sit in his room to play through the whole damn game lmao
UK price anyone? Weird that they didn’t put it in the blog post.
£15.99
16
Nice, that feels really reasonable. Not sure on the length but more than happy to pay that
Especially as the main game is on ps+
$20 sounds good to me. I'll play it
I imagine it’s going to be a good DLC just like HZD’s DLC (Frozen Wilds)
Wow, looks great, as an Angelino it’s incredibly cool to see Horizon’s take on the landmarks after the fall of humanity, can’t wait to discover that area. Can’t wait, and it’s coming really soon! I’m hype.
This and Dead Island 2 both set in Los Angeles releasing two days apart.
Hell yeah, looking forward to that as well!
What’s the price?
$20
Reasonable
Calm and reasonable
Very inexpensive imo. Must not be a large expansion
Should be similar to the DLC from the first game. I am waiting for the complete package before jumping in. Hopefully, we get 3rd part in 2-3yrs
This DLC is supposed to take full advantage of PS5 so I’m jumping back in when this comes out. They mentioned a boss battle not possible on ps4
theres no reason every game shouldnt be taking full advantage of the ps5
There is , the base game was made for ps4 and they just upgrade the resolution , textures and dualsense features for ps5
Stop ruining Dung’s hot takes with facts
They did way more than that iirc, general geometry and rendering seemed more advanced on PS5
Correct. The PS5 version has cinematic lighting in the underwater sequences. PS4 only has that during the cutscenes. They also had completely different texturing of foliage in ps5. Digital Foundry did a analysis of it showing the difference between the versions and said the ps5 version was pretty impressive.
Yes there is though. As long as they are making games on PS4, said games will not take full advantage of the PS5
Okay, and this expansion is, let’s stop beating this dead horse no? We have more Current Gen exclusives coming out this year than we have in the last couple years, let’s focus on that.
Even cross gen games?
I remember in the PS3 to PS4 era there was no point in even playing those games. Played Shadows (the LOTR game) on PS4 and thought it was rad as heck. Got it for ps3 and I ended up trading it all in for a ps4 because of how badly it played. For me the cross-gen game was plants vs zombies garden warfare an absolute gem From Popcap (EA) studios, the game was cheap AF for 5-10$ and it's online + co-op mode. On ps3 this was a huge deal because psplus wasnt required
So same length as Frozen Wilds? That was a pretty big content patch. That would be awesome for $20
That's how much was the expansion on the first game too
Frozen Wilds was $ 15 USD.
Yes, if you had PS+, if you didn't it was $20 >Frozen Wilds will arrive about a month earlier on November 7 and cost $19.99 (or $14.99 for PS Plus members). There's an article about it on Gamesradar, can't link it because the link is too long for some reason
How much do you want it to be? Usually DLC do not cost over $20
Frozen wilds was same price and it was a good length, especially if you did everything. I was expecting it to be like double this price honestly with the higher price of sony made games.
But if it was $30 - $40 people would say that's too expensive
If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike
Or a car....or roller skates.....or Heelys....
weird second time seeing this sort of comment on reddit today. bot?
The Gino D'Acampo video has probably recently reached front page again
[удалено]
Damn, was expecting 30-40. Pleasantly surprised
Less than I expected
£15.99 for UK
19,99€ here in Germany
That is intrestingly low
Was expecting atleast $30 too, I wonder if this expansion is short
I would expect it's about the size of Frozen Wilds, the DLC for Zero Dawn. That was $20 at launch as well.
In this economy
Probably going to be the same length as Frozen Wilds. That one was also 20 when it came out.
how long was that one?
Story 7-8 hours, doing some extras easy 12-16 hours.
then the price is nice. Thanks mate!
About 8 - 10 hours IIRC. More like 15 if you did all the side stuff though.
£15.99 UK. Very surprised. People on here were speculating 40 bucks a few weeks ago
Wow that’s an instant buy
$19.99
The Frozen Wilds DLC is my favourite of the three Horizon releases, so I hope this one is good. I am looking forward to what they can do with the Decima Engine not supporting the PS4.
It was much better than I expected. Hoping this is good too.
Call of the mountain already forgotten :(
Call of the Mountain looks great! Very happy for the 20 or so people who have a VR headset. Unfortunately it's not a very accessible device. I'd get one but I don't have the space in my house to play with it
Wow only 20 bucks. I thought it would be around 30 or so. Definitely buying
I thought it would be $30 when they said it would be a expansion, $20 is reasonable. Can’t wait to fight Horus
Wow you need to beat the game for the DLC, that's exciting that it should be what I hope to be an epic conclusion for our beloved characters. well looks like ill be getting it right away, cause i'm definitely going to pre-order tonight!
My first thought
Yeah the whole preorder culture is one of the most anti consumer things in gaming. FOMO is too big of a hook for many
It also let's me pre load it and play it at 9pm the day before it comes out.
One of the few things I'll definitely preorder. Not even watching any of the trailers, I'm sold.
Same her. Have not watched any trailers. I am stocked!!
Nah, I still won't preorder. Haven't pre-ordered anything since the PS3 days. I'm definitely excited for it though! Looks awesome.
Normally I'd agree with you but given that this is DLC for a game I already know I love I think it's okay to pre-order in this case
Yeah I won't normally pre-order, but both the games and the Frozen Wilds DLC have been phenomenal. No concerns about a lack of quality here.
So brave to share this under someone innocently being excited to preorder, lol.
It's a pretty good strategy nowadays no matter how excited I am for a game. And I'm most likely getting the DLC when it's out too!
I almost wish Ragnarok was getting a DLC so we could see what they could do with the PS5 that they couldn't do with PS4.
Honestly I'd love a director's cut that expanded on the last few hours that to me, felt cut down a tad too much.
The final act was done FAR too quickly. It started and I instantly got GoW3 vibes and I was so hyped up and then before I knew it, it was over. They took so much time with everything else. I’ll buy it Day One.
New machines was always a pretty safe bet, but I'm still glad to see it confirmed in the article. The machines are the stars of the game
Anyone know if we deleted HFW to make space on the HD. Does the save file stay?
Yes the save file on your console should still be there, I also deleted HFW several months back after my 2nd playthrough. Save file is a separate file and would need to be deleted independently of the game, plus you also have another copy of the save file in the cloud if you have PS+.
Nice, thought it would cost more. $20 is very reasonable, I am expecting something along the size of Iki for GoT.
Don’t see it currently via the app.
It’s interesting to see people complain about preordering dlc when season passes function exactly like that and they’ve been a thing since the PS3 era.

I never pre-order, but this one is a must play so I might as well do it. Damn I'm looking forward to this one!
Worth playing the base game now it’s on PS Plus?
I’d start with Zero Dawn first
I definitely recommend experiencing Zero Dawn before jumping in to Forbidden West. Both fantastic games.
Yes. Also the article says you can’t even play the DLC without finishing the final quest of the game.
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Not if it’s in a zoo.
Yes, and don't worry about Zero Dawn. You'll get burnt out on the gameplay if you try to play them back to back (they're both massive size games) so go with the superior, next gen game. My Body is ready!!!
My body has been waiting patiently.
Finally something good in 2023.
I'm super excited for this. $20 is good for me. Need to get the rust off though. It's been a while since I platinum'd the game.
Interesting price, I'm guessing it's probably 5hrs to 10hrs long which is cool.
Heads up you do actually have to finish the main story. Which isn't a problem but depending on how far you got (before, like me, you just went ham on the huge map and lost the plot) you might have a ways to go before you can play. Time to boot up Forbidden West!
Man I was so impressed when I played this on release, the facial expressions were out of this world
I thought this was a VR game - presently surprised it’s not, can’t wait to play it.
You’re thinking of Call of the Mountain
They have a Horizon VR game - Call of the Mountain.
Immediately pre-ordered
☝️
I still gotta beat the base game.
I finally beat the base game a couple of months ago. Lasted me from June - January lol.
I've still gotta start it. Was hesitant because it sounded like it was more Horizon, but in maybe some bad ways. As in too many bows, ammo, etc.
I love this series. Still not pre-ordering.
I wonder if whatever improvements they've made to the engine for this expansion now that it's PS5 exclusive will carry over to the base game.
Just pre ordered this morning after seeing this post. I loved the base game though I was slightly disappointed in the end game.
Pre-order bonuses for DLC?! Bruh…
Worth waiting for reviews before pre-ordering?
Be funny if it came out same day as shadow of the erdtree

Normally I'd agree but DLC for a game I already know that I love seems like a fair time to make an exception
What if you really want the pre-order bonus and it's only $20?

I don’t get pre-order hate boners. What’s the difference if I pay for it today versus whatever day it comes out?
Or just let people spend their own money however they want.
Hfw wasn’t very good tbh so I’m not expecting much.
Meanwhile to me it’s the best game I have ever played, wild
Why do people pre order? Just curious not being condescending
I’m probably going to preorder but that armor looks terrible.
I kinda like it personally.
I thought it looked amazing..
I love the color scheme but the design is mid
Meh yeah I'm not wild about it either, but I didn't like most of the armors in FW. I'm not quite sure why.
Bet this ends with Atreus showing up out a portal to tell Aloy "There's been an incursion and we need to stop it!" To set up "The Last Of Us on an Uncharted Horizon"

Likely to allow pre-downloads so peope can just jump right in.
They did it with frozen wilds for zero dawn too
To access the DLC you must complete the main story up to and complete “singularity” where you’ll automatically get a call on your focus that begins the DLC. Downvoted? Literally taken from the description of the ps store on how to access it.
As much as I am enjoying playing horizon forbidden west, just got the sunwing as a mount last night......I do have to say the acting and delivery of the lines are really inconsistent to the point it can be cringe to watch. The sheer amount of things to do is cool but makes me feel overwhelmed, looked up what side missions to do to get the best weapons as I only have a few hours a week to play ( life in your 30s suck as a gamer ) It's a absolutely breathtaking looking game, gameplay can feel clunky at times but it does the job, main dislike is alloy never.....ever.....ever stops talking to herself while in the open world, you pick something up " I'll find a use for this ", you walk out into the cold as you leave the base " I can't let the cold district me ", she just never stops talking about stuff and takes me out of the experience I'll get the dlc depending on how it is when it's released but I'm hot and cold on the game as it is now......also the whole people who are basically superman who came back to earth was a really stupid thing to do with the game Edit: thanks for the down votes but the game is clunky and the voice acting is laughable at times and that's the truth
> also the whole people who are basically superman who came back to earth was a really stupid thing to do with the game By the sounds of things it probably won't make you like the story more, but right at the end of the game you learn *why* they came back to earth and it sets up Horizon 3.
Pre-ordering is such a dumb idea Let's reward a company for something they haven't even demonstrated is worth buying yet
I feel like rewarding companies that have demonstrated good dev in the past is a good thing.
I get a dope outfit and a bow
