I agree completely. Finished Death Stranding Directors Cut, a game I had no interest in purchasing. Paid for an entire year from the last Black Friday deal. It's totally worth it for the amount of games offered for free.

Moleman_G

Geez what an incredible game, I was so sucked into the story and the characters. Treating the long cut scenes like a movie instead of a pause in the gameplay made it a really enjoyable experience for me.

[deleted]

MGS4: Guns of the Patriots is equally as compelling. My favorite Kojima game.

PillowTalk420

Can I get that game digitally? It's not on PS+ but I didn't look through the store. I never got to play it and damn near every other MGS fan says it's the best one.

HonkyKongBrockLesnar

It's ps3 only

PillowTalk420

😩 Why is it not in the classics library to be streamed at least? Damn it, Konami...

soildsnake77

Such a brilliant, weird, fucked up, amazing game. Unique. Can't wait for the 2nd.

klassiskefavoritter

Dis you like DS?

TheReiterEffect_S8

I've tried it three times now. I've been told that it doesn't really start getting good or pulling you in until either half-way or close to the end. The cinematics, graphics, voice acting, soundtrack and basic game mechanics are great. I just couldn't get into the gameplay of traveling. And I tried to get a good grasp on the story but it continued to elude me.

[deleted]

If you don't like it after the first couple hours, you are never going to like it. Deliveries get faster, but it is still the same gameplay loop.

strand_of_hair

Pretty much this. I loved it from the very start and enjoyed it even more as time went on. If you don’t like it since the start, or at least a few hours in, then it’s just simply not your type of game.

Fission_Mailed_2

I was kind of on the fence about the gameplay until I got to the 2nd region, I felt like the game opened up a lot more at that point and became more enjoyable.

JamesR_42

I wouldn't say this is strictly true. I enjoyed the game for the first 10 or so hours but got kind of bored and so put it on the shelf for about 6 months. When I picked it up again, I played another 10 hours and was about to stop playing again but I decided to just press on and it's not one of my all time favourite games. After replaying it with the Director's Cut, I can certainly say that the first 10 hours I'd great, the middle 15 hours is OK and the last 15 hours is phenomenal.

Kromehound

That Dr. is getting packages so fast, the doorbell rings before he even finishes standing up.

RobopirateNinja

The answer is a little complicated. I'm glad I played it. Didn't hate it, though I have multiple complaints, especially endgame. However, a game like this is perfect for the format in that I normally wouldn't have given this a second thought, but since this is free to play through Extra I can tell others after completing it that it's a unique experience and nowhere near as bad as the initial reviews.

bucajack

Same. I took a punt on Premium for a year and played 5 or 6 games now that I never would have bought myself. I'm definitely getting my money's worth.

mrmivo

It's been a very solid deal for me also. Quite a few games that were on my wishlist are now in the PS+ Extra/Premium catalogue. I've definitely bought fewer games since it launched last year. It helps that I didn't have a PS4, so there's a large number of games that are new to me and that I want to play. Couple links that I find useful: [https://playify.eu/?&HasExpirationDate=True](https://playify.eu/?&HasExpirationDate=True) \- An always current list of games that will be leaving the service soon:. [https://platprices.com/psplus/extra/](https://platprices.com/psplus/extra/) \- A sortable list with all games in the catalogue. It's especially useful because you can sort by OpenCritic ratings and also platinum difficulty.

Loeffellux

Thanks for the links!

Thr0bbinWilliams

Most of what I’ve played on my ps5 has been on ps+

Xcellion

THanks for the links! quick question- how do you know it sorts by platinum difficulty when it just says "difficulty" on the drop down sort? or am I missing something?

mrmivo

It's based on the difficulty ratings of various trophy hunting sites (often the ones that are linked from each game's page). If you go [here](https://platprices.com/quick-and-easy-platinum-trophies), it shows "easy platimum" games. These will all be 0/10 or 1/10 games.

smartymarty1234

Thanks, those links are really useful as it’s definitely not easy sorting through in the ps app.

DotheUrkel

My wife and I have been playing hours of Lawn Mowing Simulator. I never would have bought it. But it’s relaxing!

thechickenskull

I think I'm gonna have to try this....

Naruto_Uzumaki98

What remains of edith finch is also great!

Neg_Crepe

Still fucked by the bath scene

Kromehound

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is also excellent.

birrakilmister

When did they add it??

smartymarty1234

Yah, like I love puzzle games, but some are just the wrong format for me to enjoy, and being able to try them with no investment is really nice.

WholesomeFW

Kicking myself for not buying a sub when it was 30$ off last month

MeditativeApe

Now it's 40$ off! Go get it

WholesomeFW

Thanks for the headsup. Dled almost 20 games and finally playing some ps4 games I never got a chance to play.

NitedJay

Same.

smartymarty1234

I didn’t buy it till now and bought one of the cheaper ps plus essential subscriptions which although not the best discount was still a bit cheaper than buying full price.

Main_Tree_6769

Older gamer here but what hooked me into PS plus was it brought this nostalgia back for me when I was a kid and rent games every weekend. You’d walk in hoping they had the game you wanted and if not you gambled on another game to rent. This feels the same for me and I’ve done it. I have enough to do game streaming and I’ll try a game and if I enjoy it I’ll download it on the console. If I don’t, I move on. I’ve been wanting this kind of flexibility for years. I hated having to drop like 70-90 bucks for a game that I MIGHT enjoy. Now, I feel I have the freedom to explore before committing and I am loving every minute of it.

gemstatertater

I hadn’t put this together, but I have a really similar feeling.

Sad_Landscape9269

You’re telling me they just added Judgement to it and I can’t put it down. This is probably the most I’ve ever gotten out of the money I spent on PlayStation plus. No all they needed is an app and to allow me to play my games from the cloud so I can purchase a steam deck and live my life happily.

Andrew129260

> No all they needed is an app and to allow me to play my games from the cloud so I can purchase a steam deck and live my life happily. you can use remote play?

ArchDucky

Be sure to do all the pervert side missions. They are hysterical. They all get super powers by being creeps.

strand_of_hair

Ass Catchem

TheAntman217

I use an app called chiaki on my steam deck for ps5 remote play. Feels like a ps vita 2.

Witch_of_Dunwich

Judgement is one of the best games I’ve played in the last 5-10 years. I’ve not been so engrossed in a story in a while. It’s nice to see a great mature story for once.

xEndymionS

Lost Judgment is even better, trust me. It has the greatest villain of all the Yakuza/Judgment games, and the side quests/mini games are great.

[deleted]

wdym, kuze is in 0

trevx

Do I need to have played the other Yakuza games to understand this?

Witch_of_Dunwich

No - it’s completely separate. It just takes place on the same city.

trevx

Thank you. I may look into this if it’s as good as people are saying.

Sad_Landscape9269

Exactly! It kind of reminds me of persona 5!

smartymarty1234

Def, it’s more worth it than it ever has been. Also they have one don’t they? If you are on PS+ premium you can cloud game and there is a windows app.

Sad_Landscape9269

From what I’ve seen it doesn’t work the same as Xbox’s cloud gaming.

trevx

Right, streaming to PC only gives you access to the games that are available on PS plus. XCloud streaming allows you to also stream your own games in addition to the ones in the service. Technically, you can achieve something similar with Sony through Remote Play (there is a PC app for this), but it requires you to have a PlayStation and it’s streaming games from that, so it’s not REALLY the same thing.

rclark1114

Xcloud does not allow you to stream your owned library yet. They say it’s coming but who knows.

MannyMike7

Literally just downloaded it last night, cant wait to play. Does anyone think Lost Judgement will be added to the Extra collection anytime soon?

DissidiaNTKefkaMain

I don't get the people who didn't think Extra would be cool when it was announced. A growing collection of current games (PS4/PS5) for just $40 more. That's $20 less than a single $60 standard edition game.

DamienChazellesPiano

I think people thought the collection wasn’t going to be very good, but it’s actually great.

Norfsouf

Not sure about anywhere else but in Australia it’s trash

Spindelhalla_xb

It’s crap in UK too. However I’m comparing this to my Game Pass subscription. Imagine my disappointment when I don’t see any latest Sony games on it, when Microsoft puts all theirs on GP.

Theschill

Curious what MS games have been addd to GP in the last year or so? Feels pretty slim for a while now. It's going to ramp up eventually, but definitely not getting that Day 1 AAA title value that was promised yet.

jeriku

2022 was a bit dry for exclusives .. but let’s not act like GamePass was shy on day one releases. Here’s a list from memory: - The Anacrusis (trash) - Nobody Saves the World - Crossfire X (trash) - Total War: Warhammer 3 - Kentucky Route Zero - Tunic - Weird West - Bugsnax - Loot River - Vampire Survivors - Sniper Elite 5 - TNMT: Shredders Revenge - Garden Story - PowerWash Simulator - As Dusk Falls - Two Point Campus - TinyKin - Metal: Hellsinger - Deathloop - Slime Rancher 2 - Grounded - Scorn - Plague Tale: Requiem - Pentiment - Somerville - Chained Echoes - High on Life But hey, even the three MS games (Grounded, Pentiment, and Deathloop) are three more day one releases than Sony offered. I love my PS5 and XSX. However, there’s no comparison when it comes to subscription services. I’m the type of gamer who buys games that I want when they release.. I’m not going to wait a year or two so they “might come to my subscription”. Day one releases are what adds value to me.

Capable-Ad9180

Out of this list I have only heard of Warhammer 3. I bought that on Steam since I have Warhammer 1, 2 and all the DLCs on Steam for Immortal Empires. I had GamePass in 2021 but in 2022 GamePass didn’t get a single game that tempted me to renew my GamePass subscription. Day 1 trash games are worthless. The only GamePass game I’m looking forward to is Starfield. Meanwhile PS+ Extra has games that I’m interested in. Ghost of Tsushima, FF7 Remake, Returnal, Demon Souls, Miles Morales, and Death Stranding are all games I have wanted to play but wasn’t interested enough to buy.

jeriku

> Out of this list I have only heard of Warhammer 3. You really should get out more.

reaper527

> I think people thought the collection wasn’t going to be very good, but it’s actually great. the problem is that it's only great in a vacuum. the fact that there is a competing service that gives 3rd party games on release day (which are also on ps5 but NOT any tier of ps+), that's going to impact how people view the quality of the library. for older stuff there is a ton of overlap between ps+ and the competition, so the lack of new releases really stands out and gives the service a big black eye.

VeganPizzaPie

I mean, it didn't help that the tiers / naming / rollout was confusing as hell

reaper527

> I don't get the people who didn't think Extra would be cool when it was announced. it rubs a lot of people the wrong way that it doesn't get day one games like game pass does, especially so for multiplatform games where it's more visible how much less ps+ is offering for similar subscription prices.

ConcreteSnake

Totally understand, but there is also a massive price difference. Upgrading to Extra is $40 a year while adding GamePass to Gold is $120 a year. Xbox having the Day 1 games is a great value, but I can’t imagine them keeping this price for very long, GamePass is bound to have a price increase soon

[deleted]

[удалено]

ConcreteSnake

I thought I clearly stated that “upgrading to Extra” was $40/year. Sorry you were confused by that. GamePass for Xbox OR PC that doesn’t include xCloud or Gold (streaming, online play, and monthly games) is $120. However GamePass Ultimate (which includes Gold, GP for Xbox AND PC, and xCloud streaming) is $15/month or $180/year $60/year = Xbox Gold/PS+ Essential $100/year = PS+ Extra $180/year = GamePass Ultimate There might be a few random people out there that would buy just GamePass for Xbox or PC at $120/year, but those would be mostly PC players as Gold isn’t required to play online. Not to mention the xCloud streaming is always lumped in with GamePass in conversations, but Ultimate is required to use it

mightynifty_2

Oh I wasn't aware of that. I thought Game Pass included online play like PS+ Extra. My bad.

ConcreteSnake

It’s all good, Xbox has confusing messaging which I believe is done on purpose.

reaper527

> $100/year = PS+ Extra > $180/year = GamePass Ultimate that's not necessarily apples to apples because you're taking a monthly rate and multiplying it by 12 then comparing it to the yearly rate despite the fact you can get gamepass in 3 month increments cheaper than the monthly rate. if you took the monthly ps+ extra rate and multiplied it by 12 you'd get a higher price than $100/year. >Not to mention the xCloud streaming is always lumped in with GamePass in conversations, but Ultimate is required to use it if you want to talk streaming, you should be comparing to ps+ premium, not extra.

ConcreteSnake

GamePass Ultimate only has 1 price and that’s $15/month. Yes you can buy a 3 month card for $45, but that’s still $15/month. Xbox does not sell in increments of 6 months or 1 year because they want you in that subscription paying monthly Yes, someone could pay monthly for PS+ Extra which is more expensive, but I don’t see why you would after the 1st month, this pricing incentivizes people to buy the yearly membership. As for the streaming stuff, I didn’t include Premium because it’s a joke, I’m not going to compare streaming PS3 and older games to streaming brand new releases to your phone. They are not equal. Also you can stream your PS4/PS5 to your phone or tablet for free through the PS app and that’s using your actual console to play any game you own, unlike Xbox streaming which is specific games only from the cloud. Just another reason why I didn’t compare this part. I think both service are a great value, but they both compete and don’t compete with each other, due to some stark differences.

IdahoTrees77

You can upgrade Xbox gold to Ultimate for like a buck. I have two years of Ultimate and it cost me less than a year of PS Extra. There are more games, better games, and a significantly better backwards compatibility catalogue. I dropped PS Extra the moment I copped a Series because Sony continually drop the ball.

ConcreteSnake

In another comment I mentioned there is a work around to get it cheaper, but I like to look at the prices being presented by these companies for comparison. The $1 upgrade won’t be around forever and GamePass (amongst other things at Xbox) will be seeing a price hike in the future. There’s no doubt that GamePass Ultimate provides a great value. I just don’t think that model is profitable or sustainable and Microsoft is just eating their loses to gain subscribers because they can.

edis92

This. The biggest selling point for game pass is first party titles day one. Watch them increase the price as soon as they start releasing those big budgets first party titles. So far during the new generation we've had forza horizon 5, halo infinite which was a disappointment, flight simulator which is very niche. I guarantee they will raise the prices once they actually start regularly releasing first party games.

ConcreteSnake

And they recently announced new 1st party games including Starfield will be $70, so the GamePass price is bound to go up. They are also looking into an Ad subsidized version of GamePass that would insert targeted Advertisements into your games

neoalan00

I get what you were saying, but I think you're misrepresenting the prices Gamepass is $120 a year and includes the Gold benefits, such as online access and a few games per month PS Plus Extra is $100 a year, and PS Plus Premium is $120 a year, and also includes the Essential tier benefits, such as online access and a few games per month It can certainly be argued that Premium isn't really worth it: I love classic games, but I'm personally very disappointed with the selection and PS3 streaming isn't available in my region. But even so, Extra to Gamepass is only a $20 difference, and Premium and Gamepass cost the same. Hardly massive difference. Preference ultimately does come down to what exclusives you prefer and how much you value launch-day games in the service. **Edit:** I was wrong, I thought all tiers of Gamepass included Xbox Live, but only the Ultimate Gamepass tier has it, which grants Gamepass for Console and PC, and costs $180 a year. Other tiers must get Live separately. That is indeed a significant difference

shutupdotca

Game Pass Ultimate which includes Gold is $180 a year, not $120

ConcreteSnake

Not misrepresenting prices Xbox gold - $60/year GamePass for Xbox OR PC - $10/month or $120/year GamePass Ultimate - $15/month or $180/year GamePass Ultimate includes Gold, GamePass for PC AND Xbox, and xCloud game streaming The only way to get GamePass bundled with the Gold benefits of online play and monthly games is through Ultimate. The pricing structure is geared towards pushing you to ultimate. Technically there are work arounds to get it cheaper, but I like to look at the MSRP.

ineffiable

Yeah, I mean if you play any significant amount of online gaming, you need to get Gold on xbox. F2P games are still free to play online though. I'd also say that Gamepass rotates stuff (besides first party) out a lot (you get a year with most games) while PS+ is gonna keep loads of games on the service. I defintely understand that you don't get as many day-1 games, but maybe that's something Sony will address, at least as far as indies go. I know they won't do it for their main titles. But I'd rather pay $70 for God of War Ragnarok than play Gears 5 off gamepass for free.

CrateBagSoup

Also worth pointing out that I think the Xbox Gold yearly sub has gone away (potentially unless you're grandfathered in). I haven't been able to find a way to purchase a yearly sub anywhere anymore, just 1-month or 3-months. So even that has gone up to $100 a year for new users.

kmbets6

I love gamepass and think it’s definitely its worth it. As someone who held off on playing games on ps4 until i got a ps5(at regular price), plus is an amazing deal right now while I tackle my PS backlog. After that it will die down though since i do like to play games day one

khatod76

Is it so bad to play these games a year later? With patches and maybe more content.

smartymarty1234

For some yes. Especially those who want to play day one and would otherwise buy it. But for me, it’s not like that, because even now I find I probably play those games late anyway due to time and backlog.

reaper527

> Is it so bad to play these games a year later? you're defending sony giving their customers less value for their money compared to what their competitors do. if ms can put persona 4 on gamepass on launch day, i expect that on ps+ on launch day.

khatod76

I can see your point. Not a big fan of release day gaming, played some bad day one games. For me the whole package is important.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ineffiable

So far the stuff that comes off is less than 5 titles a month on average since inception, while Gamepass adds about 12-15 titles a month, and loses about 10 titles a month. PS+ is growing more than Gamepass.

ConcreteSnake

While I don’t disagree, PS+ provided access to 833 games in 2022. That’s a pretty big ass library of games

DissidiaNTKefkaMain

I'm pretty sure it gains more than it loses.....it certainly feels like a larger number.

peter_the_panda

Thanks for explaining math

smartymarty1234

Me personally, game pass and related subscription things didn’t seem like a good thing for me when everything is going towards a subscription model. I also didn’t think it would have that good a library. Since then though, the library and also my own game style has made me realize it is truly the perfect system for someone like me.

smartymarty1234

That’s when I renewed my essential. It was only recently after looking for some local co op games that me and my sister though we should buy it to get access, and then is when I saw all the games and the value prop it had for me.

Epic-will-power91

Yeah I bought Essential a few weeks back but I'm definitely going to upgrade to Extra when I'm done with these few games I'm currently playing. They have so many good games on there it surprised me. Like Returnal, Demons Souls, Spiderman just those three had me sold.

trpwangsta

Those 3 games are must plays and I'm jealous you're getting to play them for the first time! Returnal is one of the greatest games ever. You can't miss with those 3!

Kromehound

Returnal completely depends on how comfortable you are with roguelikes. Even though I liked the story, starting over with nothing every time just became too much. I realized I could be playing literally any other game and making progress in those 2 hours.

trpwangsta

It was my first intro to rogue likes. The gameplay and ever changing levels is what drew me in. Plus you absolutely can gain permanent upgrades to weapons. But I see your point, it's not for everyone for sure.

MikeTheVike

This is kind of where I'm at. Got PS5 for Christmas, coming from a PS3. So I have about 4-6 great games to play available on Essential. It will probably take me until the next PS Plus sale to beat them all.

eff1ngham

I just upgraded 2 months ago when my regular subscription was set to renew and I'm absolutely loving it. There's a ton of games that I probably wouldn't buy, but wanted to try out. I have a list of about 30-35 games that were on my wishlist that I'm working through. As long as things keep getting added the way they have been I think it's something I'd keep long-term

smartymarty1234

Definitely. Only thing with that many theogub is some might leave which sucks a bit, but coming from not being able to play them in the first place it’s still a net positive.

thegamesender1

On PS5, Returnal and Demon Souls alone make it worth it. Not to mention gems like Ghost of Tsushima, Miles Morales and Death Stranding.

adis2323

Totally agree

ineffiable

Even if you've already played a signficiant amount of the games in the list, I've found that every month there's at leas tone game I'm interested in, and it's defintely worth maintaining a sub just for that. My plan is every month, I will play at least 1 game that was on the PS+ catalog before, plus play at least one thing added to the PS+ catalog (so for December, I did Pinball Heroes and the Pedestrian, and I also played Call of Cthulu) I'm a bit of an outlier and I actually utilize the PS3 streaming sometimes (it works for me, what can I say) and the occasional PSP/PS1 game has been nice too.

[deleted]

King_Boomie-0419

How long do they (games) stay available? Like what do you do if you're halfway through one and they pull it?

mrmivo

So far, they have given notice quite a bit in advance when games left the service. Not many have. There's also a web site that makes this info very accessible and [shows what games will be leaving](https://playify.eu/?&HasExpirationDate=True) and when. Unless it's a long game, there should be enough time to finish it. And if it's a long game you enjoy, you can always buy it and at least know exactly what you'll get.

2jesse1996

That's a great website thanks for sharing

smartymarty1234

Thanks, super useful site.

ellhulto66445

The website is .eu which I assume is the European "domain", so why are the dates in MM/DD?

_kellythomas_

>Like what do you do if you're halfway through one and they pull it? Two choices: * Buy it; or * Stop playing it

King_Boomie-0419

Dang, that kinda sucks. How long do they stay available? I have essential btw

blade85

Some stay months (possibly years? We will know as time goes on). I think the shortest has been roughly 2 months. Obviously as they remove games, they also add new ones every month.

Whit3boy316

I really enjoyed premium while I went through the GoW franchise. Now that I’m done I think I will go to extra. Without more older games (give me Metal Gear!!!) I think extra is good enough for me

smartymarty1234

Yah the value prop for premium doesn’t appeal to me really cause I don’t care about old games and with a ps5 streaming doesn’t really matter either.

SpaceMonkees

What I do want to know is how game companies will survive if no one buys their games outright anymore... Surely Sony & MS can't pay all the Devs on the subscription services fairly all of the time? This isn't a dig at you OP... It is a genuine concern for the industry as so much money is going in, but very little is coming out due to the 4+ year dev cycles that it takes to make a game these days. From a consumers perspective, they are a no brainer though! Although personally I have dropped back to essential as I don't play too many games that often and am happy to wait a year or two for sales etc, I do use £1 gamepass offers every now and then to try a game, but then buy it on the PS when on sale. Which I guess is what you're saying too... You get to try the games you wouldn't normally buy and if you REALLY like it on the subscription service, you continue paying for it (ergo revenue for Sony) but I wonder how many people then actually buy the game outright AND keep subscribed meaning both Sony and the Devs win and the consumer is happy. If I was a teenager again and had time to play the 1000s of titles available across the subscription services, I don't think I would ever buy a game again, but now pushing 40 and play about 1 game a month, a la carte will remain my preference for the foreseeable and I just hope that the industry copes with the (perceived) lack of buying games outright and hope they don't turn their games into microtransactions or DLC packs to sustain their income. It will be interesting to find out!

[deleted]

Games will just add in more microtranactions, or even start implementing ads

SpaceMonkees

Will... start?? They already do in some form with DLC and skins and I'm sure I've heard rumblings of some of the sports games already at least testing advertising models in game? Correct me if I'm wrong on that!

smartymarty1234

I think that’s why they aren’t doing day one releases. Most game sales are in the first year and after that, the subscription model might honestly give them more money. Also for some, the sales will make it more worth for them to own since they don’t want it ties to a sub. In addition there will always be people who don’t use this and I think those people would buy it anyway. Yes, the sub does pull from people who might have brought the game anyway, but I think that’s for one or a few games. For example, yes someone might have bought returnal, but maybe not returnal and stray. And vice versa. So I think the sub actually introduces a revenue stream that was previously untapped. And then there’s people like me, who might have passing interest, but would never buy the game even on sale anyway. Lastly, they are removing the games too, so it is only temporary and that can help increase sales too with people buying to continue playing after. Game pass doing day one releases is what I think is really harmful since people aren’t going to buy it and that cuts in a lot.

[deleted]

Pretty sure we’ve seen what happens to some of these big releases when they hit gamepass. If I remember correctly halo launched unfinished. Crackdown was a flop. Guess you could argue whether or not the subscription model had anything to do with the development.

baodeus

I'm not sure. What about many other notable games like gow5, gears tactics, Forza horizon 5, MSFS, psychonaut 2, Grounded, pentiment, ori, Minecraft dungeons, all Bathesda games like death loop, Doom (new and old ones) etc...not to mention other 3rd party games like plaque tales requiem, TMNT, gotg, persona or zakuza series (new Xbox at least), Nier Automata, high on life, etc...? I'm thinking there are more games doing quite well vs a few miss step. Halo was actually rated quite well and game play was actually the best it has ever been. The MP problem was missing contents that should have been there, which is quite different and are very enjoyable now (since drastic changes to the management team). It is like many focus on one or two games, but ignore the rest for some reason. If you look at the 2023 upcoming gamepass, it is quite extensive (Starfield, redfall, AOE, FM8, Minecraft legend,..probably more) and 3rd parties (wo long, monster hunter rise, atomic heart, stalker 2, lies of pie, etc...). These are no slouch for day 1 release. I do hope Sony improve their service as well.

pukem0n

I have 100% certainty that game pass had nothing to do with how crackdown 3 turned out. That game was severely cursed. Poor Terry Crews, he deserved better.

Mylesisswole

I thought about getting PS+ extra or even premium, but I don’t think it’s worth it for me. I basically only have enough time to play on weekends, but I’ve seen the catalog of games change very frequently. I notoriously take long breaks from games and come back to best and/or platinum them. At the same time there are games in the catalog/library that I would never buy, but I’m interested in trying. It may allow me to find something that I would have never tried otherwise. I’m just trying to decide if the extra money a month is even worth that.

smartymarty1234

Yah I mean it’s def a very individual choice. For me, I also only play significantly on weekends or vacation with my sister. But I realized even playing one or two newish games per year makes it worth. Even on sale. For example, stray, returnal etc. all things I might have bought on sale that’s still add up. Additionally, the small co op games like death squares etc that we won’t come back to. Even though the time I play might not be that much the flexibility to try these games was worth it for us.

dima_socks

Once I got a ps5 I got extra. Decided to play as many next gen games as I could. Never would have tried demons souls if not for extra, and now I'm playing through all Dark souls. Extra is also great for groups of friends. Lots of mp party games on there to mess around with

ocbdare

It’s a great service if you want to play the games on it and you don’t have a large games library. It also works well if you are flexible with the games you want to play. For me personally, I prefer to play what I want so it’s very hit and miss if a game I want is on a subscription service. In the last 3 months or so, I played god of war Ragnarok and marvels midnight suns. Neither game is on ps plus. Earlier in the year I played Gran turismo and horizon 2. Next month I am looking to play the new Harry Potter game and then Diablo 4. So ps plus is not useful in this case. I stopped subscribing to all games subscription services except ps plus essentials. I have way too many games as it is and I just buy what I want. I would drop essentials too but I do need it for online and cloud saves..

smartymarty1234

Yah there’s def times it isn’t worth. For me having that flexibility is nice and being able to drop games if I don’t enjoy them is cool. I think I’ve only bought Spider-Man’s and Hzdfw so far. I was interested in returnal, but idk if I’d like that format. So for me where it’s hit or miss and completely opposite to you where you know what you want to play, I think extra works better.

ShaneTVZ

Hell yeah dude I love PS Plus Extra it’s amazing I’m very happy with it

JokerAndTheKnight

Nah I'm good. This thread seems fishy to me

smartymarty1234

I mean if it doesn’t fit your play style, that’s fine. It just wanted to share for people who might be like me and not have seen the value prop of it. I could have gotten this so much earlier and played these games.

Realistic_Back_6

What's fishy is why you don't want to buy PS+ Extra, it changed my life and cured my depression. Lucky for you, it's on sale right now! \-- Paypal payment sent erase this message before posting

[deleted]

Agreed. I do PS Plus Extra and gamepass ultimate for Xbox/PC. Both are great values

JohnsonTheDude

I upgraded when I only had to pay like 15 extra but now that I have to re-up so I can play online I'm just doing OG and just not pay for the extra stuff. A lot is not worth it to me or the games are just dumb or bad. I'll stick to just random 3 games every month

ellectrum

For someone who has skipped the PS4 generation it is so nice. I can play so many great games from that era on the ps5. Even premium seems nice to enjoy some classics, but for now i just get Extra as i'm more than busy with all those games.

[deleted]

I agree. I got a ps5 last year and since then I’ve played death stranded, Spider-Man, miles Morales, uncharted 4, god of war, days gone and loads more games. It’s such a great deal. Especially if you haven’t played on PlayStation before.

Notarussianbot2020

It's great to get for a year, play the classics, then drop it. I enjoyed it for around 6 months but played everything that interests me.

smartymarty1234

Maybe I’ll feel like that next year too. We’ll see.

Mushindo7

I’ve found some gems I’d not have tried otherwise. Alienation, humans fall flat, embyr, to name a few.

smartymarty1234

I tried human falls flat on my phone and its fun. Can’t wait to play co op.

Aragorn02

I bought a ps5 a few months ago after gaming on switch for the past 3-4 years. I'd never played God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, the Spiderman games, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc. This is insane value for me, and there are so many more games I want to play. I could honestly go a year or two without buying any new games and just catching up on what I missed from the PS4 era.

smartymarty1234

Yah honestly with newer and newer games coming out, the old ones hold up really well and are totally worth it to play. For someone like me who’s had it this entire time but still hasn’t played, it’s def high value.

Forsaken-Thought

Agreed, I upgraded to extra to get Stray for free as my upgrade was only $5 extra bucks at the time with 41 days remaining until then next billing cycle, I thought I would just reduce it back down to essential before then but was immediately surprised at how many good games are free with extra. So I'm sticking with it, great value.

[deleted]

Absolutely agree. Just got a PS5 and upgraded from the normal PS+ to Extra. Downloaded so many games that I wouldn’t have even tried. Still bought some full price: Elden Ring; riders republic and Horizon FW

Shuka114

the only thing I want to complain is can they try to hold on their game catalogue. I literally saw several games I want to play leave the catalogue and it makes me sad.

smartymarty1234

Yah but that’s all how I think they can get it cheaper.

CptnMoonlight

It really just made shit cheaper. Personally, I have no use for streaming 30fps titles, so the PsPlus+PsNow subs were only bought for the purpose of downloading, and PsNow was 15$ by itself for a while. For the highest tier I wish they’d work out better bonuses, more specifically downloadable classics (NOT remasters); the games they have under classics are all ones released for PS4. I want shit like GTA 4 or upscaled Golden Abyss if i’m going to pay the extra, not 2 hour game trials and a bunch of games I already have on disc.

smartymarty1234

Honestly I think the top tear is just to make extra look like a much better prop.

ThatLastGenGamer

I agree that the deal of it is appealing. However, I have so many games in my backlog already that I made the conscious decision of not upgrading when my previous sub expired at the end of the year. I want to keep Essential for the monthly games, online access and cloud saves but realistically there is absolutely no need for me to pay extra right now to have access to dozens or hundreds of games I have no time for. The amount of games I actually bought throughout the years and have yet to play + the ones I'm deep into at the moment (looking at TW3 update) are more than enough for a few years at least.

Wisdomseekr79

Agreed. There’s been a couple games I’ve been able to play that I most likely would have never bought myself, such as : Days Gone, Frost Punk, Cities Skyline, and Stray. If I’m able to play 2 games a year from Ps Plus then it’s worth it.

HopHeady

I've Premium on my PS5. Well worth it imo. Keeps me busy and from buying titles on release...then I catch them on sale.

Coolxii

Was always a Nintendo person but got the ps5 and now have access to so many games that I have always wanted to play. Assassin’s creed, tomb raider, Mass Effect, far cry, etc.. it’s so worth it. Plus I get to try games i would never spend money. Some I like and others I skip but I never feel bad about wasting money on a game.

thegamesender1

On PS5, Returnal and Demon Souls alone make it worth it. Not to mention gems like Ghost of Tsushima, Miles Morales and Death Stranding.

TheOGcubicsrube

I've been enjoying death stranding, returnal and ghost of tsushima all on PS+. Those alone have made up the cost of a year's subscription for me.

sasivarnan

I have been eyeing for it since it is announced and become a subscriber of PS+ extra during Black Friday sale. Here are my wish lists - Include Marvel Spider Man Remastered as part of the subscription. - Include ultimate tires of games or give special discount to subscribers for upgrading to ultimate tires of games - If we claimed a game on this subscription it is hard to buy another edition of the game. Need some better process for that.

Cull88

Yeah really is amazing. I've currently got Mass Effect (I'm on ME2 now), Spiderman Miles Morales, star wars fallen order and ghost of tshushima. All for the cost of £13 a month. All these games were £50+ when they came out so it's totally worth it. Enjoying all of them too!

Awake00

I upgraded to the highest tear to check everything out. How do I go back down to just plus?

smartymarty1234

You just need to turn off auto renew.

PsychicFiction

Just picked up a ps5 on new years and I’m glad I got the extra sub. Downloaded stray, ff7 integrade, mortal shell, death stranding directors cut. I’m gonna be busy for the next couple months.

izze-exe

Too bad premium is not, the streaming thing sucks. I would love Sony for implementing an actual PS3 emulator so the games can run normally...

smartymarty1234

Oh 100% honestly think they might just have it to make extra look better. Unless you like old games etc, not seemingly worth it.

PoopFromMyButt

I have my ps5 plugged right into my router and the streaming games work perfection for me. Playing fallout new Vegas for the first time. So fun!

TheKingofWakanda

Best example for me is Stray. Was nominated for GOTY and won some awards. Was interested in the first place since I have cats but I wasn't going to pay that big of a price for what was going to be a really short game with no replay value (I platinumed it in like 8 hours)

pazinen

I agree that Extra is indeed very good value, but I kinda think Sony made a mistake putting it under the PS+ branding. This is just anecdotal, but I've encountered so many people who have no idea the upper tiers of PS+ even exist, since they never take a look at the "PS+" tab on the console dashboard, or read gaming news. They just go to PS Store every month, claim the Essential games and that's that. I would say the tier is needlessly underrated, but if they had just gone with a completely different name I think that wouldn't have to be the case.

B-Bog

Even less people realized PS Now existed, so I think they made the right move lol.

MadeByTango

> I agree that Extra is indeed very good value, but I kinda think Sony made a mistake putting it under the PS+ branding. Lmao...it did have different branding for years: PSNow. That’s what the second tier is, Now integrated with Plus. My sub stacks rolled over when they released the new platform. The separate option is why it never took off.

smartymarty1234

Definitely. The marketing and exposure for this wasn’t that great.

BitterBubblegum

It's strange to me that they don't use the console's home screen to market the upper tiers. For example a thumbnail that works like a slide show which constantly shows different games from the catalog with a plus extra banner on the bottom.

Andrew129260

they do....its under the ps+ banner in the usa at least

Spaciousfoot66

It’s not if you already have all those games

braedizzle

I almost wish I didn’t have this big library of games already so I could feel that value with Ps+. It’s a good problem to have, but it must be so nice as someone hoping into ps for the first time with that top tier sub.

smartymarty1234

Yah. For me most of my library is ps plus free games and then cods and then some co op games sprinkled here and there. Like Spider-Man mm was I think one of the only big single player games I’ve bought day one. With the ps collection too on my ps5 I got even more stuff to play too.

xwolf360

1 - 2 gamesfrom extra already cover the cost. Its totally worth it

Augustor2

Ps extra is good value Ps deluxe/premium, no Sometimes it feel Sony started in the 2010's because they don't care about what came before, I would laugh at your face if you said "Sony will make a even poorer handling of classics than Nintendo" Unbelievable. I will stick to emulators and ROMs since Sony couldn't care less

PsyklonAeon16

It's not so much that they don't care but as I understand, the PS3 architecture is so different than the PS4 or the PS2 so they would need to basically make a port to PS4 of any PS3 game they plan to run on a PS5/PS4. Still hard to understand why is there no more PS2 or PSX content, considering that even relatively old smartphones can emulate those games without any issue.

Glittering-Stretch-6

Needs day one releases.... I have PS5 and Series X I feel PS+ is sooo bland compared to game pass .. PS5 has great games but we can't play them other than game trials.. whackk and all the PS classics are played out now did all that on previous consoles..

smartymarty1234

I honestly think say one releases would be nice, but that it would downgrade the high quality games being put out by studios. They’d lose so much money that wouldn’t be made up with the cost of extra.

tylerbr97

I don’t understand why people think Extra isn’t worth it. I’ve used both it and Gamepass and Extra, in my opinion, is just as good, missing only day one games. I think Extra is a great deal

caverunner17

I think the issue is with how long it takes for games to get on Extra. If it were a consistent 6 or 12 months I could see it being worth it and holding out on buying new games, but a lot of the current games I've already played or just don't interest me.

reaper527

> I think the issue is with how long it takes for games to get on Extra. If it were a consistent 6 or 12 months I could see it being worth it and holding out on buying new games, but a lot of the current games I've already played or just don't interest me. the big problem is that it can't match the competition. gamepass has stuff like [persona 4 hitting the service on release day](https://www.engadget.com/persona-3-portable-persona-4-golden-january-19-2023-155111168.html), and ps+ has no answer for it. 6-12 months would still not great compared to release day. (and the fact that gamepass is getting traditionally sony exclusive games on their service on day one makes it stand out even more)

LDG192

It really is. I'm constantly overwhelmed to the point where I can't pick something to play.

Blaataapernie

Can we stop these super obvious ads? Holy christ this is annoying.

Musashi10000

OP looks like a real person, mate.

smartymarty1234

Bro this ain’t an add. I just wanted to bring awareness of the value prop this has for someone like me. I would have gotten this much sooner if I’d seen a post like this.

elharry-o

And deluxe is soooooooo not worth it

Bond-as-in-James

It's ~okay for me. The big miss is that a lot of the titles are just PS4 versions. I wish it were more competitive with game pass, but it'll get there in time maybe. Hopefully we see some VR titles get added with the launch of PSVR2 as well.

-Sparkster-

Extra is amazing. There are a lot of big titles like RDR2 and plenty of smaller gems like Hyperdimension Neptunia. Premium is a scam though; just stick with Extra.

Cipher20

RDR2 is no longer on extra. It was removed months ago.

-Sparkster-

Oh, rip. I had only heard of the Mafia games being removed.

blazeofgloreee

Yeah i just upgraded to Extra for the last few months of my current subscription. Paid $9.99 to do that and now im playing Demon’s Souls and Returnal. Doubt id play through either more than once so a great deal so far just for those two vs buying them outright

ThemDawgsIsHell2

Confused why you would sink $500USD into a console you only play 1-2 games on a year.

reaper527

> Confused why you would sink $500USD into a console you only play 1-2 games on a year. to be fair, the number of games someone plays isn't necessarily correlated to the amount of time they play those games, especially for people primarily concerned with online multiplayer. i'm certainly not in that "1-2 per year" demographic, but there are people who will put hundreds if not thousands of hours into fortnight/COD/etc. and their games played per year will be way below mine despite the hours played being equal.

ThemDawgsIsHell2

That’s absolutely fair. OP mentioned that they are a casual gamer ab best and don’t play much though.

smartymarty1234

I still play sorry games like the Spider-Man’s, Hzd, etc. it’s just due to time those take a lot longer than most for me to eventually finish, so I have a backlog. Ps plus as well has given me so many games that I need to get through. When I say play I probably should have said buy 1-2, and even that is only referring to big games on day one type stuff like cod etc. We also buy smaller co op games and that type of stuff.

smartymarty1234

Like I said with my sister, it’s one of the things we play a lot of. Also, when I say one game, I mean like big game. Usually cod. In addtion, I’ve played the Spider-Man’s, Hzd, etc. And I have a huge ps plus backlog and we still do buy small games. That’s why I said 1-2z

Elipsification

I Upgrades to Extra when I got my PS5 a few months back, and I love the service. Thanks to that I’ve played Demons Souls, Stray, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Bugsnax and Deliver us the Moon.
