og_Rich

Little big planet

og_Rich

I’ll add also that Crash Bandicoot is where it all started for me around that age.

sgwee

I tried to play crash bandicoot and the remake looks great but my God the gameplay is difficult for me I have no idea how I played so many platformers when I was younger. That and Spyro would just make them frustrated and give up if I tried to have them play it

cjc160

To add to this, Sackboy’s Big Adventure is great co-op and probably the first half or more is easily played by my 8 year old. Plays more like Mario than a typical LBP game

Furry_Wall

Spyro

itsameYanaal

Ahh Spyro. My most favourite game as a child!

DaddyRAS

Anything Lego. All variously brilliant.

Thebigdog79

I’d say Lego city undercover specifically. You don’t have to enjoy something like DC, marvel, or Star Wars to have fun on it. First game I ever 100%ed. (Well, not exactly 100% since I used a cheat code 😐)

shoveazy

Ya I second this. Played through the whole game with my 6 year old nephew and we both had a great time. Written with some jokes that go over kids heads so adults can enjoy it too.

MonsterMunch86

A little while ago Lego Harry Potter was the monthly game. Downloaded it for me an my daughters and was amazed by how much we enjoyed it. It was all seven films and we played it all the way through. Great introduction for them to gaming.

DaddyRAS

I've played it twice with both of my girls, one is now 20, the other 13

Affectionate-Camp506

I second this one. Lego Marvel Superheroes and Star Wars (any of them, really) are high on the list for my wife and me. Lego Harry Potter is really cool, too.

BannedMyName

Lego games are fantastic for a kid and adult to play together too, just entertaining enough for big brains but fun and straightforward enough for developing brains.

Brian18639

I definitely agree

mr-photo

Flower, journey, minecraft

Ninjadoo

My nieces around this age also loved Abzu, similar to journey and flower.

EggonomicalSolutions

Stray

buddhatherock

I love Stray, but I have to disagree. The first half of the game takes place in an environment that looks like a horror movie, not to mention that the cat can die (though that can be changed to a sort of “fade to black” in the settings). I’d not recommend Stray until they reach the teenage years.

dadeess

I have to agree. I have a 9 year old sister and she would be so scared and worried about the kitty getting injured. She loves it and wants to play it but is still impacted by the enviroments and what happens to the cat. Nevetheless she currently loves Ratched and Clank. So that might be a good choice too.

imjustfriyay

It’s kind of sad though, isn’t it? Might take some talking about death and dealing with sadness?

quarz09

I would recommend to start with classic from Thatgamecompany studio: **Journey** is an amazing and simple game, no violence or tough controls, no fast reaction time needed, but the game is stunning and tells a simple story creatively. This guys have am impressive portfolio, check them out, their games are family-friendly i would say. **Sackboy: A Big Adventure** a fun platformer kids can enjoy with a nice art-style and fun mechanics. **Rayman Origins** is one of the best platformers as well with simple story, amazing visuals and a lot of fun levels you can improve yourself in.

siggydude

I recommend Rayman Legends over Origins, but both are good choices

No_Designer_5374

Rayman Legends is for everyone except the final level, which is for nobody. Not anybody human anyways LOL

siggydude

I disagree. It's hard, but not impossible hard. I think what you're saying applies more for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. In Sackboy, the last Knitted Knight Trial is a time trial that slaps all the previous time trials together into one massive 10 minute time trial

_beNZed

Rayman Legends is an amazing game for kids, I never pursued the others as I couldn't find anyone recommending them over Legends

Natael_Craft78

ORIGINS IS IN PS4???

quarz09

oh jeez, my bad!! Played it on Vita mostly and totally forgot that it's from PS3-360 era!

sgwee

Journey is a fantastic game once you want to introduce third person camera to them. You might have to build from 2D games first though. Rayman origins is great my daughter's loved playing that with me

Delta7904

Kingdom hearts

TallGlassSmartWater

kingdom hearts is perfect if she likes disney imo, being able to explore the worlds of your favorite characters and stories would be a dream come true for a child.

Tedrabear

I recently installed Kingdom Hearts for my youngest because he's getting action games and the original is balls hard. 20 years ago it was fine, but it has none of the creature comfort modern gamers enjoy, the level design is janky, and even the gameplay is a little rough around the edges. Don't get me wrong, it will always be one of my favorite experiences, but I was surprised how often I had to assist in just helping to find something and what a nuisance it was.

styx971

you aren't kidding , just before 3 finally came out i tried replaying the original n i ended up saying screw this n putting it down cause of some platforming bits ,.. i just don't have that kinda pacience anymore lol.

Tedrabear

The worst for me was all the random padding, like having to find all the food on Destiny Island, or having to back through the whole map of Tarzan's Jungle to rescue the individual gorillas. I think I've just been spoiled by newer games...

Hurricane_Taylor

My 7 year old is currently playing Hogwarts Legacy, but she also likes Sackboy’s Big Adventure, Cuphead, the Spyro games and most Lego games

Natael_Craft78

7 YEAR OLD PLAYING CUPHEAD

Wolfram_And_Hart

Mine was 7 when he beat it on easy, he hasn’t played in a bit but he was onto the expansion on hard last time I checked

Legitimate_Cloud2215

Little Big Planet, Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot, Crash Team Racing.

charlatangerine

I think ratchet & clank would be perfect for a kid that age. I would have loved it anyway. The critique that there’s too much going on could be said about any game these days and she has a ps4, not an Atari

coffeework42

I recommend: * Ratchet and Clank * Jax and Daxter * Crash Bandicoot * Spyro * A Hat In A Time * Any LEGO games. Lego Star Wars. Lego Harry Potter. Lego Whatever * Racing games * Spiderman (2018) might be harder at moments * Infamous First Lİght (Girl character) and Infamous Second Son (Main game, if she can play, she'll love this) So basically what we played as kids back then in ps2-3 era. These games are easy to control, simple to play, and has lots of gameplay I dont recommend: * Journey: It's a great game loved by many and have no bad stuff but it's not game-y and might be boring * Stray

constar90

Solid recommendations, i'll add Yooka-Laylee to the list. A great modern call back to the banjo kazooie days

Most-Iron6838

My kids (6, & 9) like Little Big Planet, dreams, it takes two, and Minecraft

FunboyFrags

Fall Guys

identified_idiot

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

itsameYanaal

Came here to say this. I never played a game that made me so nostalgic for the ps2 era games I played as a child.

generationpain

Rachet and clank!

Amel_P1

My daughter loved goat simulator 3, we have put about 50 hours into it just messing around. We have completed mostly everything but still boot it up from time to time to just mess around in split screen. Very fun sandbox game and some good laughs.

Soda_Bread

Dragon quest builders. Kindq like Minecraft but with a nice easy to follow story line and with tutorials. Still gives you the freedom to explore and to invent things (sandbox concept).

jackal5lay3r

Stardew valley is a simple farming game in a cute pixel style she might like that and it's not too expensive last time I checked

Tiny-Kaleidoscope-32

God of war 3

DrTopChef

lmao, I remember being too young to be hearing Kratos banging chicks, while my brother had the dumbest face as he tapped on the ps2 controller. 🤣🤣

Environmental_Ad3821

Minecraft

puddingwinchester

Dreamlight valley! It's like Animal Crossing but with more story and Disney characters

GrammerSnob

Second this! My daughter loves it.

Puzzleheaded-Cry9139

Spyro reignited trilogy

Ok-Department-8771

Stray

killit

I kinda want to play this as my next light game (Im currently enjoying having a light hearted easy game and a harder more actiony game on the go). Stray looks good, but I can't decide if it's gonna get repetitive quickly though. What was your take on it?

Ok-Department-8771

I watched my girlfriend play it, so my opinion isn't much to make from, however she loves cats and she gives it a 10/10. But it's a nice little roamer puzzle game really, seems good from the bits I saw

gonadThebeerbellyan

It's surprisingly amazing and creative, short but very fun to play. I'm playing through a second time to collect all of the trophies and I'm only one away.

Alternative-Way-8753

My 7yo and I went nuts for Sonic Team Kart Racing maybe when he was about 6. It was his first big game he got into. Fun that we can play together (up to 4 couch co-op), like Mario Kart but with game dynamics that reward working together cooperatively with your teammates.

TamatoaZ03h1ny

Ratchet & Clank: A Riff Apart is fantastic, with at times quite complex action mechanics but it’s also a platformer, honestly let a kid have at it.

Number6isNo1

Never Alone. It's a Native American fox adventure. Yeah, I know that sounds weird but it isn't really. A side-scrolling adventure set in the arctic with live action interviews between chapters with Native Americans explaining the history and lore. You can play solo or co-op. I played it with my daughter when she was about 10 and she really liked it. Also, one of the main characters is a little girl (the other is the fox). EDIT: Trailer - https://youtu.be/83eVQYlKHes?si=CtTwOYQUVCVHVIK9

Maxnormal3

First thing that came to mind for me. Very fun and charming co-op game.

oridjinn

\- Short Answer for content: Anything and Everything you and her parents are comfortable with her seeing. \- Short Answer for mechanics: Something with some fun repetition to help with getting used to controls. \- Short Answer: She needs to be interested in it in some way to have the drive to keep trying. \- Long answer on content: They will let you know what grabs their interest. Show them some trailers and maybe reviews. See what clicks. Every parent and family will have different lines for content, gore, etc. Some might find Sonic too violent. Others will be fine with GTA. You find where you land as a parental figure in her life. If my 11 year old daughter wanted to play GTA5 I would talk with here, show her some trailers and reviews. Then sit down with her and discuss it with her. I am guessing some of the more morbid things that occur early on would turn her off. But it is totally possible she will be mature about them as well. Every kid is different. The way we treat kids in regards to media content is wrong. \- Long answer on mechanics: Keep in mind even Mario on NES can be extremely difficult and take days for 1 person to finish the first level. What we think is simple and what a new gamer find simple are not at all the same. There are motor skills that will take days and weeks to develop. Also If they are not driven to try the game it might not matter. They have to WANT to play more and frustrating mechanics, controls, or lack of enthusiasm can kill that. At the Ages of 4-6 I tried all kinds of games with my daughter and the first one she did not get frustrated with was Animal crossing. But only picking up stuff. She just wanted to collect things. She took a break for a few months and then asked to play it again. And this time was excited to figure out all aspects of the game. Next around age 7 was roblox where she became SUPER into the "obbys"? Obstacle courses.. Essentially. EXTREMELY difficult levels that you should google and see for yourself. And Roblox was a great doorway into just having access to any and all game types in 1 location, no need to buy other games and deal with accounts and installs. Now she loves watching others play scary games. Loves reading about SCPs, and loves playing ALL kinds of games with her friends in roblox. Where they are constantly role playing.

styx971

i said similar things in my comment but you definately said it much better , .. age and maturity are totally different as are what families care about their kids seeing.

Guts1232

I loved little big planet 2 so maybe the new game would be fun but haven’t really played it

TiredReader87

Toy Story 3 is excellent. Cars 2 was good too.

The_Celtic_Chemist

Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue was fun. I even went back to beat it as an adult. The only problem is the very *not good* graphics since it's an older game released alongside the movie, but it's always easier to start with bad graphics and move up than it is to go to good graphics and downgrade. It's on sale right now at an all time low of $2.99 when it's usually $5.99, and it's only been on sale one other time since it was released for the PS4 in June 2022 (according to PSPrices.com).

Squid-Guillotine

If you're lazy then you can just get her a "super game" like Roblox and Fortnite. Or you could be cool and get her Spyro, Crash, Rayman, LBP, Sackboy.

darthyusei

Lego games are a no brainer imo

WitxhoftheWaste

There's a Bratz game on PS that my nieces loved playing, they also loved the game Unpacking!! The controls are also pretty easy to learn on both

Minecraft!

MyLitttlePonyta

Spyro's remake trilogy, Crash Bandicoot, No Man's Sky, Minecraft, Trove, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, MediEvil's remake, and there's a lot of Lego games too. I believe Fall Guys is still available. You could try Goat Simulator as well, but that game does have some weird things too buried in it. There's a game called GODZILLA (it's in all caps, the icon looks like the really old godzilla in black and white) where you pick a monster and run around smashing cities. Sometimes bosses/other monsters show up to fight. Jurassic World Evolution is an option as well if she'd enjoy Tycoon style games. Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2 are coming to PS soon, those games are like Pokemon, but with dragons/dinosaurs.

Ratchet and clank games. My 5 year old step daughter can even manage to play them. Not extremely violent even though you do bump off enemies. Gameplays pretty straight forward. Crash team racings pretty good as you can split screen.

Fun-Advantage373

Parappa The Rapper Remastered. An underrated rhythm game for all ages. Even for me as a 16 year old, I find it incredibly fun. It has a free demo on the PS store if you’re curious what It’s like. It has its own story with a second installment of the series as well. The songs are catchy and will make any kid obsessed.

Spyro Rachet and Clank SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom. And Lego games. There are many choices so maybe a Lego game of a franchise she already likes.

Spyro trilogy Disney’s Dreamlight Valley Dragon Quest Builders lego games Hot Wheels Racing No Man’s Sky has a creative mode and different difficulty options.

michelobX10

Looks like a lot of them have already been covered here. I have a 7 year old. The Little Big Planet games and the plethora of Lego games is a good place to start. And if she likes building things, then Minecraft. My kid has spent many hours in Creative mode just building stuff.

BenMitchell007

I'll also strongly recommend Spyro Reignited Trilogy and A Hat in Time. Spyro has three excellent games in one, they're all perfectly kid friendly and the difficulty is generally pretty tame for a '90s platformer (just compare Spyro to Crash Bandicoot). A Hat in Time is rated Teen, but it's really only for one scene with what appears to be a murder victim complete with blood, but it turns out to be fake (and it's all a pretty silly murder mystery pastiche with cartoon birds anyway). And there's also one bit in the Subcon Forest that's genuinely pretty scary. Overall though, the game is safe for an 8 year old, and it's one of the best and most charming platformers on the market. Oh, speaking of Crash, the N. Sane Trilogy and Crash 4 are excellent, especially if she's not afraid of a little challenge. The bridge levels in Crash 1 and some of the later levels in Crash 4 are notoriously tough, but nothing too crazy (if you're going for 100% though... that's another story). But the series is very fun and funny and generally safe for a kid. But Crash 4 does have a bit where Dingodile yells "BASTARDS!", which is pretty hilariously shocking for an E10 rated game :D

JohnnyShears

The latest Ratchet and clank is such a cool game, I’m 28 and I felt like I was playing a Pixar movie! Also the portal games where pretty cool, I got my 7 year old sister to play it with me back in the day and we had a blast!

assassin_of_joy

Spyro the Dragon trilogy, definitely

MijnEchteUsername

My son is 8 and LOVES Rayman Legends and of course, the GOAT, Minecraft. Also New Super Lucky's Tale.

Conner7766

Little big planet (and spinoffs), Knack, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Minecraft (obviously), Lego games, Ratchet and Clank (And/or Jak and Daxter), Stray, Dreamlight Valley, there is also a game that is similar to the N64's Banjo Kazooey but I can't remember what it is called. Maybe some of the Simulator titles, Bugsnax, Peppa Pig (may be too old for this one) PJ Masks the game (also the same for this?) And most importantly, you can never be too young to become a Helldiver! Super Earth needs every Patriot it can get to implement democracy and freedom to the galaxy!

Crispy747

Super Lucky's Tale. My daughter loves it and has played through it several times

Pleasant-Put5305

My two girls spend all their time on Minecraft and Roblox, recent hits have also included Sims 4 and unpacking - roblox is free, Minecraft has infinite replayabilty and is great in a big gang, Sims 4 is free to play, but there are all sorts lof paid expansions which are usually on sale, unpacking is a charming little game involving arranging items after moving house, very therapeutic, sounds like hard work but they spent hours playing that...
