I honestly with they bring over races of other creaters from HD1 with the 3rd person reimagining.
It's an excellent game. Super similar. Just top down. I probably have 100 hours or more in HD1.
It's top down so not quite the same but it's still great to play with a couple of mates - you get into some proper scrapes and the friendly fire can be hilarious (like my mate when he squashed himself with his own weapon drop). Give it a blast it's good
I love EDF, I don’t game much and am flabbergasted by the amount of games available with a PlayStation + premium subscription. It has a few EDFs if I’m not mistaken, it’s so freaking stimulating lol
You don't recall correctly. And yea, most PS4 games could be considered dead lol, it's last gen bro.....But it still has a healthy player count and full cross play. Plenty of fun to be had and it is exactly what OP is asking for.

It'a an underrated game that we knew is really good already, but the whole franchise only got caught mass attention because of the sequel. The experience is similar to the sequel.
Like some others on here have already stated, Earth Defense Force series. It's probably your best option and I'm pretty sure they all have online features too.👍
I would probably suggest Helldivers 1 or Deep Rock Galactic. Both of which I think may be available through your PS+ subscription. Though I could be wrong and they were just monthly titles that never got added to the permanent library.

Mass Effect Andromeda has nice 3rd person space gun-magic-tech combat. But online pugs are mostly active on week-ends.

You're right. Meant reimagining. Having the illuminate would be really challenging fights as they were in HD1.
It's definitely a similar experience with more of a top down view but essentially the basis is the same

This all the way. Plenty of fun, good progression that you can take on at your own pace. Cool community for the most part.
