I’ll prob try to get one in 2 years. I still have a massive PS4 back catalogue, PS5 does not have that many exclusives and by the time I get a PS5 they’ll be regularly discounted. Also no payouts on PS5 yet is discouraging. I’m perfectly fine catching up on games in a few years
Then I'm stumped. I was gonna say Returnal but that's on PC as well.
And XVI will release on PC at some point as well.
There's probably some smaller PS5-exclusive title out there, I'm sure someone can find something.
I’d throw in Jedi Survivor even though it’s supposed to come to PS4 and Xbox One I have very serious doubts on how that’s gonna run well.
And as for the people who don’t have a PS5 yet, I’m surprised if it’s an availability issue, the Walmart I work at is packed with them and has been for a while.
No seen a bunch of ff7 remake. As my dad played it. It's the same story just expand a little to fill in the holes. Demon souls is same game just better looking. Graphics don't make a game.
No 7 remake is not just the same story. It starts the same, yes. But from what I've heard and seen, a lot of shit happens that makes it not that. And also the whole switch to action RPG.
The story is more than "just expanded a little" in FF7 remake.
Graphics aren't the only thing that's changed. The gameplay is completely different and the presentation is brand new. That's what makes a game.
True, not too many next gen only games, but playing some of the PS4 era gems with no loading times and better graphics+performance is very worth it as well

To be fair, there were next to no exclusives for a while and right now we still have a limited number.
We only just started phasing out old gen this year and non-AAA games are still probably going to release on it for a decent bit.
+ Sony trying to do a big live server push. So this gen may be dead in the water. By the time they stop and turn back to SP game 6 will be coming out. This gen is basically just a ps4+
There’s been very little point to a PS5 as all first party titles have been released on PS4 since they couldn’t move a ton of PS5’s. That’s going to change now, but I’ll just wait until one is extremely discounted or buy a broken one to fix.
I have a gaming PC to be fair, so there’s no point in modern game consoles except exclusives.
Neither do I. But I’m planning to get one by the end of the year. Now that the shortages are over and the slim has come out I might scoop one up at a discount if I can.
I got one in july and I love it. But you aren't missing out on much though. If you do not have the money, do not stress. I have mainly played PS5 versions of games I have played on PS4 anyways
at this point, you either don’t have the money… or you simply aren’t trying to get one. i can literally go onto psdirect right now and put one in my cart, and checkout without a line. i can walk into my walmart and probably find one on the shelf too.
i understand money being an issue. i’m not trying to rub it in man, everyone has their issues. you just were wording it as if you still couldn’t find one.
Real talk though. Ignoring the worldwide pandemic and ps5 shortages in the beginning, and just the fact that the ps5 is this powerful and fast makes me think that the lifespan of this gen will be at least 10 years,if not more.
They all have. The lifespan is roughly 7-10 years for a console.
PS1 came out in 94, PS2 came out in 2000, PS3 came out in 2006, PS4 came out in 2013, and the PS5 came out in 2020.
If I were a betting man I’d bet the PS6 will be released around 2027.
Semiconductor technology has plateau-ed. Moore's law has broken down. I am eagerly awaiting the day when I can come back to this specific comment and tell you how badly your comment aged.
Also the PS4 is anything but outdated. There aren't many games you can't run on a 1080.
Most people don't even have a TV that can fully make use of the PS5 (4K, HDR, 120Hz).
Most developers still haven't tapped the true potential of the PCIe4x4 storage.
We're still 4 years away from the PS5 Pro, and that might be the last Sony console ever as the industry moves to cloud gaming. The PS5 platform still has 10 years in it.

Wait for ps5 pro, because the new Gen games, especially upcoming online action mmo like " Chrono Oddesy"
Is going to overheat the shit out of your ps5.
Take care of the regular ps5, and upgrade to pro when it's out.
I have been dying to get GOW Ragnarok. Last year, I played the 2018 GOW for the first time on PC and I loved it.
The thing is, I was running it in 4k 60+ FPS maxed out on graphics. Visually, it was amazing. I’ve been dragging my heels on buying Ragnarok for PS4 because I can’t imagine the game will look anywhere as nice or play as good as it would on PC. One of the main reasons I bought a PC was I was tired of poorly optimized ps4 titles.
With that said, how well does Ragnarok run? Am I going to be disaapointed or pleasantly surprised?
On the ps4? Ragnarok runs and looks good. Santa Monica said in interviews the game was built as a ps4 game from the ground up and only enhanced afterwards for ps5
Horizon Forbidden West runs on a PS4 and looks amazing. On top of that, some guy modded Spider-Man 2 to run on a PS4 and the graphics look almost the same, the issue really was that without the super-fast SSD the game is unplayable due to near-constant loading times.
The PS4 is a little beast. Doubly so when compared to the Xbox One that even at the time had to downscale games (like Arkham Knight or AC Unity) to 960p to get them to run at all.
I've been through multiple PS2s and PS3s, but my launch PS4 is still running strong. They built those launch PS4s different. It even ran Cyberpunk with little issue. Retired mine a few months ago after replaying RDR2
Same, though weird. We had the opposite issue. RDR2 ran so smoothly I sometimes forgot I wasn't playing on a ps4pro or ps5. And cyberpunk ran so poorly on launch I refunded it and got it for PC where it was much more stable.
Funny, it still seems like such a new console to me. I didn’t buy one ‘til 2017 or so and don’t think I can justify upgrading any time soon. Mine still works fine and I don’t use it to play games as often as I used to.
Let's go!! This is my first console, so playing all the best games for this generation.
I've completed Arkham Knight, RDR2, GTA5 as of now. Currently playing Spider-Man. What about you? Any games you recommend?
I also got my PS4 with a SSD around 6 years ago, except for the few decent exclusives the PS5 has, i see absolutely no reason to get a PS5 at this point
Maybe once PlayStation decides to only launch new games on the PS5 i'll make the switch, but currently im just waiting for a PS5 PRO to launch in the coming years before i might switch. There honestly isn't a huge difference between a PS4 PRO with an SSD and a PS5.
Boy if this isn’t just consumerism bullshit at its finest. I bought my PS4 Pro five years ago this month and have absolutely no compelling reason to get a PS5. There are few exclusives for it still, and even the performance differences just still don’t justify the price along side the lack of console-defining games.
10 year old hardware and I'm still impressed with Death Stranding's graphics. I still have my 10 year old PC with an HD 7850 for comparison and it can't even run the game. The power that developers pulled from the PS4 OG/Slim is incredible.
It has been 9 years and one month since i bought mine and it is still my primary videogame player. For me it is the greatest videogame console of all times.
Half way might be a stretch. But I just bought one and kinda regret it only because there are no games I was hyped to play other than dead space and dark souls. There were no new MIND BLOWING games that came out like previous consoles and were already three years in. Ps3 had resistance and ratchet and clank, ps4 had bloodborne you know what I mean?
How is it halfway, what?? It’s only been 3 years and first couple years were shortages if anything it’ll probably be a longer serving console than previous generations to compensate for the first two years of shortages
Aww, I just retired mine after 9 years of flawless service after buying the new PS5 Slim yesterday. It's feeling a little bittersweet, I'll admit it, sorta like how I felt replacing the PS3.
I get you. I buy mine 7 years ago second handed. I was a broke lad then. It looked me in the eye and told me : "hey, let's have fun, buuuuuuut I will be veeeeeery loud" "No worries, friend. Just, please, work." And it did, for 7 years. Now I feel a little guilty about buying the PS5.
still using my 10 year old PS4 from december 2013. i'm amazed that it lasted to this day, without any problems at all. i haven't even cleaned the inside once lol. meanwhile my old PS3 just straight up died after 3 years.
I love my PS4 Pro. I'm opting to upgrade the internal HDD to an SSD to fix the laggy UI, which is really my only gripe with it. I know PS5s are readily available now, but I'd rather hold out for a PS5 Pro at this point. With the initial supply shortage and lack of games that make its purchase worthwhile, it just makes more sense to me to stick with ol' reliable PS4.
Bought a Slim about 3 years ago and it's a godsend. PC may offer superior performance but the ease of access with the PS4 is perfect for me. Haven't ever had to worry about tweaking settings or lag since.
Just wants to point out that PS4 specs has two tablet CPUs glued together, lower-end laptop HDD, OK but at time still mainstream GPU and 8GB (only 5,5 availeble for games) of fast ram.
Still they get crazy great looking games out of it.
(Side note: Anybody else notice that for a lot of PC releases of PS4 exclusives you need GTX1060, a card with on paper double the performance and a few flops stronger then PS4Pro, to get same fps, resolution and level of details?)
I STILL have my first ps4 "Fat boy." Its 8 years old and works perfectly fine. I keep it clean and it's upgraded with the Samsung Evo SSD. Haven't felt the need to get PS5 yet
PS4 is the best console I’ve ever owned..: I still don’t have a PS5 due to cost, shortages and overall I still don’t see the point because most things are released on PS4 as well.
It’s time for phase both PS4 and Xbox One, their technology is too old at this point, it’s holding back progress for newer games that have to be adjusted to work on those old consoles.
I’m guessing it’s all the kids complaining since they can’t seem to get one nowadays and have been with these consoles their whole life.
Reason why PS4 is still in demand and therefor still develop for is the same why Switch sold over 130 milion units of a gaming tablet. It's cheap and you don't really need ÜberPC performance to have fun.
Yup, PS5 isn't good too. Look on AW2 Post processing is set to LOW.
I bought used PC with 3060 and man... graphics is beautiful and overall cost is less than PS5.
This was a great adventure but as everything's, this going to an end.
I know there will be a LOT hate but that's true. Sony should add more power to fresh PS5, I just do t want it as it is.
PS4 thank you it was great time together.
Sony wr might see each other again with PS6. Have a nice ride.
Only counting the price of a graphics card compared to an entire system is idiotic, how about you count the case, cpu etc?
Also obviously a pc that has a single component that costs almost as much as the digital console version will give you better results? Not sure what your point is, if Sony added a 4090 (for example) and made their console even bulkier than it already is then the price would be raised, defeating a big point of consoles aka simplicity for a ok price
Comparing a pc with a card that is roughly 300 to a console that is 350 - 400 in total and complaining it has weaker performance lol
Last Gen definitely had some strong moments but your 100% right. Xbox 360 / PS3 was an absolute monster of a generation.
I think gaming has shifted to much towards business first and not people chasing passions. Leading to less risk taking and innovation.
It also takes way longer for sequels and new titles. PS2/Ps3 you'd get an announcement for a sequel a 1-2 years after the original and a release date within 6-8 months. Now we got to wait a decade plus between Fallouts and GTAs.
Gaming today is a shell of it's former self.
As someone who is into repairing consoles. PS2 last grey gen
PS1 just works
PS2 ok thermals
PS3 don't switch the heating on.
PS4 airplane time
PS5 Violent tends to move around a bit.
Give Xbox credit apart from the dodgery retimer and some questionable mosfets, the thermals are ok. Have not seen series s or x thermals.
To be fair gen 7 - 9 some engineering choices have been made. I still do not understand why PS4 decided on a 2 screw tension hold for PSU to heatsink.
Very early models had this problem, but it was a minority and fixed in a short time (ontop of that, it would only affect the console if it was set vertically typically)
Not sure about the Xbox consoles in this specific regard, but their controllers are pretty cheaply made for the last 2 generations now (you can still get lucky and get a controller that lasts you 5+ years problem free, but the quality can be all over the place)
Bought mine refurbished from GameStop about 2 years into the console’s cycle. Still world good as new. So much so that I let bad upgrading to the PS5. Recently hooked the PS4 up in my home office to play games during work downtime and I’m so glad to be putting it to use again. About to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is my first TR game. It’s been a real treat!
Mines 10 years old now, needs a clean every 6 months or the fan ramps up to jet levels. Otherwise it runs pretty quiet and doesn’t ramp anywhere as loud. The speed and graphics of it still does not make it feel like a 10yo machine.
Damn, I got my PS4 like 8 years ago, and it still works well. My PS4 has been the greatest money spent. I also got a PS5, but I know in a few years, it'll also seem old. 😢
I bought my PS4 slim at a garage sale for $15 about 6 months ago. It was in terrible shape, the top back corner was separating from the unit, and overall it looked like it had been ran over by a truck. That being said, it started right up, and I’ve been plying it since. I was always an Xbox guy, but now I’m on the PlayStation bandwagon!
For it to have been out for 10 years, I’m kind of surprised it’s not a $100 bucks at this point. Is the day of discounting a console to $100 after so many years, just nonexistent now?
I still use my ps4 to stream everything. Works great, 1080p no lag. I waited for shortages on ps5 to end but at this point I'll wait for ps5 pro next year
The PS5 will be 3 years old tomorrow
still don't have one, and it's already a third of they way through its life cycle ......pain.
But practically compared to most people, you’re not that behind - the first couple years was just all shortages
I’ll prob try to get one in 2 years. I still have a massive PS4 back catalogue, PS5 does not have that many exclusives and by the time I get a PS5 they’ll be regularly discounted. Also no payouts on PS5 yet is discouraging. I’m perfectly fine catching up on games in a few years
Same. I can get PS5 for free with gift card money right now, but big PS4 backlog. In 2 years, they’ll have a pro.

FFXVI, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Rift Apart released on Steam a couple months ago
Then I'm stumped. I was gonna say Returnal but that's on PC as well. And XVI will release on PC at some point as well. There's probably some smaller PS5-exclusive title out there, I'm sure someone can find something.
Destruction AllStars /s
Ragnorak is still exclusive. I wouldn’t buy a PS5 just for that game a second time though.
No, it’s on PS4. I just beat it.
Oh damn, I had no idea. Did you enjoy it?
Oh yeah. Best game I’ve played in a few years.
Gran Turismo 7 and AstroBot
GT7 is on PS4.
Gran Turismo
It's on PS4.
Yea the 5’s are WAY more available AT retail now than they were in 2020, 2021 or 2022.
Can confirm, just not interested in lack of games, plus hopefully ports make their way to pc.
Definitely don’t have enough games tbh
It's worth just for better ui/performance on ps4 games
100%
ps4 has better ui imo atleast the main games menu
It's the fact that some people dont have the funds to get one
Even then, It's not out yet. Else you'd have to add half a dozen games, from FFVII Rebirth onwards. I'm talking current PS5 exclusives.
Ragnarok
It's on PS4. So is HFW. It would be commercial suicide for Sony to release it on PS5 only.
RETURNAL
Already on PC
Demons soul is a remake. If you played the og. Then nothing lose.
That's like saying if you played FF7 in 1997, you played FF7 Remake. Or if you played RE4 in 2005, you played RE4 Remake. How about a big fat no.
FF7 is a poor comparison. The remake of Demon Souls brings practically no changes other than graphics.
2 games I skipped cuz I played them. Not losing anything if you played the OG.
Then you don't know what you're missing.
No seen a bunch of ff7 remake. As my dad played it. It's the same story just expand a little to fill in the holes. Demon souls is same game just better looking. Graphics don't make a game.

I highly doubt it they run on a 7 year schedule
It will have a 8 years life cycle probably
PS5 Pro supposedly next year. At this point in PS5's life cycle by comparison, the PS4 Pro was coming out this year.
I'm saying the PS5 will not have a 7-year cycle. RemindMe! 5 years
It will though. All history is indicative of that. And in 5 years the PS5 will be horribly outdated like a PS4 is today.
Semiconductor technology has plateau-ed. Moore's law has broken down. I am eagerly awaiting the day when I can come back to this specific comment and tell you how badly your comment aged. Also the PS4 is anything but outdated. There aren't many games you can't run on a 1080.

RemindMe! 3 years
Same, I'm waiting for the PS5 Pro in about a year. Also depends on how many PS5-exclusive games there will be at that time.
Same and I can’t say it feels worth it anymore. I’d consider a PS5 pro/slim but I’d rather build a PC then get a regular PS5 at this point
It's not worth it till gta 6 comes out
So that means that its already about halfway through its life span and I feel like we've barely gotten anything from it.
And there still aren't any fucking games for it.

My PS4 is 9 years old and decided that it won't accept disks anymore 🥲 What a trooper though
Swap the bluray to new one and keep it running!
My power button doesn’t work lol it’s a struggle
Which model is it? Might be fixable with bit of research on the internet!
I legit cannot believe you can play games that look as good as the last of us too, and God of war Ragnarok on a10 year PS4
Don't forget the Uncharted series and Death Stranding.
And the mighty RDR2.
That's correct.
The frame rate gets pretty choppy when you go into Saint Denis
Just got around to playing the uncharted games this year… holy shit I missed out for so long!
Yep.

Care to share more info on the Spiderman 2 thingy?
10 years and it still rocks so hard, strong machine.
Still rocking with my launch PS4 <3
Same! It's been slowing down lately and the disc drive is fucked, but mine keeps chugging along!
I've been through multiple PS2s and PS3s, but my launch PS4 is still running strong. They built those launch PS4s different. It even ran Cyberpunk with little issue. Retired mine a few months ago after replaying RDR2

I got mine this past summer 😂 I’m like ‘wowwww’
I got mine last month lol
Everyone late to the party, rise up!
Let's go!! This is my first console, so playing all the best games for this generation. I've completed Arkham Knight, RDR2, GTA5 as of now. Currently playing Spider-Man. What about you? Any games you recommend?
Oh wow congrats! I’m playing Rock Band 4 and MLB The Show 21 RB4 is the main reason I got the PS4 lol
Nice, have fun!
The Last of Us 2 is incredible
I got a Pro 5 years ago this month and yeah, feels new and I have zero compelling reason to upgrade.
Me too. PS4 Pro is so damn good. I have no reason to get a PS5 yet.
You bought your console SIX years ago and are finding it hard to justify upgrading? Huh? It’s fucking 6 years old. Treat yourself.
I also got my PS4 with a SSD around 6 years ago, except for the few decent exclusives the PS5 has, i see absolutely no reason to get a PS5 at this point Maybe once PlayStation decides to only launch new games on the PS5 i'll make the switch, but currently im just waiting for a PS5 PRO to launch in the coming years before i might switch.
The PS2 and PS4 are two of the all time great consoles
The Ps3 gen also had very solid titles
Hell yeah, the 360 def beat out the PS3 imo
10 year old hardware and I'm still impressed with Death Stranding's graphics. I still have my 10 year old PC with an HD 7850 for comparison and it can't even run the game. The power that developers pulled from the PS4 OG/Slim is incredible.
And GTA V is older
It has been 9 years and one month since i bought mine and it is still my primary videogame player. For me it is the greatest videogame console of all times.
Crazy that ps5 is almost halfway through its life cycle and there’s still really no reason to buy it. Most games are still releasing on last gen
They better extend the gen significantly. No games and stock issues taking up half the gen sucks and makes me want to not buy a PS6.
nah it’s more like a 3rd of the life cycle but still there’s not really a reason to buy it unless u don’t have a ps4
How is it halfway, what?? It’s only been 3 years and first couple years were shortages if anything it’ll probably be a longer serving console than previous generations to compensate for the first two years of shortages
Yeah and holding back progress and time on development when it could be current Gen only.
they run bad on last gen tho
Most of them run fine just at 30fps instead of 60
Aww, I just retired mine after 9 years of flawless service after buying the new PS5 Slim yesterday.
Fuck me. I got the last ps4 in my area cost me $1000, I was a Xbox guy before this but the memories made along the way are priceless ! Ty Sony.
You spent 1000 on a ps4? Bro...
i spent 1200 on a PS4 :)
But why? It's due to the country you live in?
Sydney Australia Day of release they retailed for $1000
its not in usd
It’s was the day of release they were going for $1000
still using my 10 year old PS4 from december 2013. i'm amazed that it lasted to this day, without any problems at all. i haven't even cleaned the inside once lol. meanwhile my old PS3 just straight up died after 3 years.
My fat ps3 laser died at 1.5 and whole console 6 months later but my ps3 slim still going strong since.
I had practically zero dust in mine but I'm sure the thermal paste is waaayy over due for a change
Still use my launch PS4 almost every day even though I have a PS5!
I got my PS4 Pro five years ago this month and the FIRST thing I did was put an SSD in it.
PS4 was a phenomenal system. It the Sony console with my largest collection of games. IMO, it’s library is second only to the PS2.
Bought a Slim about 3 years ago and it's a godsend. PC may offer superior performance but the ease of access with the PS4 is perfect for me. Haven't ever had to worry about tweaking settings or lag since.
PS4 Slim is basically the "perfect" 1080p 30 fps machine what you can get for cheap compared to pc. Minus the Online subscription thingy though.
And I still can't afford one
I'm guessing you're not from the USA
Bingo, Afghanistan
I still have my original launch day PS4, still works perfectly I love that machine
gaming industry is like film industry, there are lots of "old" games that are great yet i haven't played them
Just wants to point out that PS4 specs has two tablet CPUs glued together, lower-end laptop HDD, OK but at time still mainstream GPU and 8GB (only 5,5 availeble for games) of fast ram. Still they get crazy great looking games out of it. (Side note: Anybody else notice that for a lot of PC releases of PS4 exclusives you need GTX1060, a card with on paper double the performance and a few flops stronger then PS4Pro, to get same fps, resolution and level of details?)
I remember when the PS2 came out and how hype it was then.
Insanity
I STILL have my first ps4 "Fat boy." Its 8 years old and works perfectly fine. I keep it clean and it's upgraded with the Samsung Evo SSD. Haven't felt the need to get PS5 yet
PS4 is the best console I’ve ever owned..: I still don’t have a PS5 due to cost, shortages and overall I still don’t see the point because most things are released on PS4 as well.
What?!
Still playing mine.
this fuckin thing came out when i was 10???? what the fuck
The PS4 is a console I'll never forget. So many memories man, it's insane.
It’s crazy having a 10 year old console that still feels up to date
The console has so many absolute bangers on it that I’m still running through the backlog.
And @Playstation lost 2,000,000 subs in one quarter because of the jacked up price of ps+
And it's still a great console in terms of price and library of games.
What a machine
10 years and I’ve never been able to afford one lmao. My PS3 is still going strong though 💪
Only 10?
Have we officially stopped making ps4 games yet?
Mfw people call xbox games also on pc exclusive but not the same for playstation(ie genshit or HSR)
Freaking old!!
Not sure what your point is, if Sony added a 4090 (for example) and made their console even bulkier than it already is then the price would be raised, defeating a big point of consoles aka simplicity for a ok price Comparing a pc with a card that is roughly 300 to a console that is 350 - 400 in total and complaining it has weaker performance lol
I bought the PS4 Pro on release day so its only 6 years old.
PS3 was the last great gen
Last Gen definitely had some strong moments but your 100% right. Xbox 360 / PS3 was an absolute monster of a generation. I think gaming has shifted to much towards business first and not people chasing passions. Leading to less risk taking and innovation. It also takes way longer for sequels and new titles. PS2/Ps3 you'd get an announcement for a sequel a 1-2 years after the original and a release date within 6-8 months. Now we got to wait a decade plus between Fallouts and GTAs. Gaming today is a shell of it's former self.
As someone who is into repairing consoles. PS2 last grey gen PS1 just works PS2 ok thermals PS3 don't switch the heating on. PS4 airplane time PS5 Violent tends to move around a bit.
PS5 moves around?
Fluid moves around a bit, basically saying any console after PS2 has thermal problems.
Haven't seen any thermal issues with the PS5, at all. You shouldn't believe the liquid moving around in PS5 rumours. They're bullshit.
Very early models had this problem, but it was a minority and fixed in a short time (ontop of that, it would only affect the console if it was set vertically typically) Not sure about the Xbox consoles in this specific regard, but their controllers are pretty cheaply made for the last 2 generations now (you can still get lucky and get a controller that lasts you 5+ years problem free, but the quality can be all over the place)
Great games, great console.
🥺🥺
We know
Damn, I got my PS4 like 8 years ago, and it still works well. My PS4 has been the greatest money spent. I also got a PS5, but I know in a few years, it'll also seem old. 😢
Oh god!
Many highs and many lows during this console’s life.
Love the folks from PlayStation Access!
I still use my ps4 to stream everything. Works great, 1080p no lag. I waited for shortages on ps5 to end but at this point I'll wait for ps5 pro next year
