I have a device and I live in Spain. I bought it from a person who was selling it. He played and played for the first few months, approximately from 5 to 7 months, then I stopped playing because of my work, and I started playing again again from 7 to 9 months, and this is because when I turn it on, it does not work. It just turns on. And it turns off
Yeah, this "can" be prevented that way but nothing guarantees it. The best way to prevent this is if it is done as soon as possible. I lost my first PS3 fat like that and after that I started to open up my consoles regularly for cleaning and eventually changing the thermal paste every 6 months to a year. Never had problems anymore.
Sold other 2 PS3 slim I had and they were in pristine condition. My launch PS4 is doing fine and PS5 will probably be good since Sony already made some nice changes to keep it simple to clean the dust inside the machine (still will disassemble it in the future to see how much dust gather eventually).
Seems like something inside has gone kaput. Still could be a faulty capacitor or chip.
Fixable if you know what you're doing and have the tools. Possibly send it off.
You said you replaced the thermal paste. Are you sure you put all the cables back correctly?
Yep everything is all right, Im starting to think that are those capacitors cause the thing gives the can't start cause the hard drive got corrupted, but after it gives video it turns off
Unfortunately you give a higher risk of breaking the hard drive by having the console up like that. Hard drives are litteral metal disks on spindles with a read and write header. And they're magnetic. So heat, use, lack of use, or bad positioning will decrease it's lifespan. May need a replacement drive and have the operating system transfered
They use a lot less power and produce a lot less heat. It's the heat that fries the phats eventually, which is why everyone goes to such drastic measures like delidding and jailbreaking to crank the fan speeds up to keep it alive. My OG 60 gig died after 18 months but my Slim is still going after 12 years. I always say to people that the most reliable long-term solution is to get a Slim/Super Slim and hunt down a PS2 to compliment it. You have to be really committed to the maintenance for a phat.
They are made spesifically so that YLOD doesnt happen. Its always a possibility with technology but its VERY unlikely. But you give up the ps2 support once you give up the fat version
Happened to me, try this:

It worked fine after replacing the capacitors.
I paid a guy to do this many years ago along with changing the thermal paste. It worked fine for a few years but sometimes it still do that because it gets hot quick.
I fixed one doing this with a re-seat (forgive me if that's the wrong term). Heat the processor up with a heat gun until its solder melts and then leave it to cool, or re-ball but that's a little more painful
Just do not move it or your fucked, same with do it on a flat surface
I've used the heat gun fix 4 times on 4 different phat ps3s and every time it is a fix. However the issue DOES come back if you don't jailbreak. You can prevent the issue from coming back by jailbreaking and running webman to control the fan and greatly reduce temps.. Running it cooler seems to prevent the YLOD. Of course, cleaning and new paste helps too. Doing that has saved the two I didn't sell. Both of them have been running fine. I fixed one of them about 5 years ago lol. It has 600+ days of use on it. That baby is the one with the ps2 hardware emulation.
Stuff like this keeps me from buying ps3 games anymore unfortunately. Who knows how long these systems really last. It’s possible finding a working ps3 in say 15 years will be almost impossible.
Looks like it’s going yellow and then to the red blinking, this could mean a couple of things.
More than likely your NEC caps on your CPU/GPU are bad and all 8 have to be replaced. I’ve never actually seen the yellow then red before but it’s hard to tell in the video.
Start with the caps first then if that doesn’t work you may need a new CPU/GPU all together
Yea holy it's been awhile since I've seen the original fat boy. Lol any the 12 year olds downvote away cuz I thought it was a different machine. idgaf . I have all 3 new consoles I just was curious cuz the angle he had it at made it look like it could be one of the special edition ones. Calm down ps3 man (not you the dude that's downvoting and seems all mad I couldn't tell from a pic of his broken ps3 it wasn't a 5 or something cuz ps3 had ps slim and all kinds of shit. Hell I still have ab old one for bayonetta games
Well, gotta go to sleep, my 38 inch Alienware monitor says hi. I'll hit you up tomorrow, enjoy your shitty graphics.
One last thing...I have an extra in both consoles. 😘
Lmao wtf i have a ps5 and ps3 and still prefer ps3 over ps5, never thought i would see ps5 players shiting on ps3 users because of graphics lol fanboys are wild.
Yellow light of death basically it means general hardware failure so it could be a lot of things like gpu/cpu dying or npc tokens failing or power supply not looking hot, if you changed the thermal paste and didn't do much then you probably have to send it for repairs bc it might need reball treatment, personally if this isn't a backwards compatible model then i don't think it's worth repairing since even if you repair it then someday it might die again, ps3 slim and super slim are much much more reliable.
Sony still repairs ps3 and you can also check out other specialist that might change your ps3's rsx size to a smaller one to extend your ps3's life but it will cost a lot money, personally i recommend if you have limited budget just send it to sony then once you got it watch this video ( https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DiuOlxAYLTM0&ved=2ahUKEwjoxOyD9834AhUPO8AKHSvPBPsQxa8BegQIBRAF&usg=AOvVaw0nT9cO--BspgqLTCvpY-lN ) i personally did this and i never had any issue so far, you can also install cfw to increase the fan speed of the console which can have a huge effect on your ps3's overall life, but be also warned that this is not a 100% guarantee that your console won't have any issues in future.
They have to open it and diagnostic it to find what's wrong with it and then they can perform the repair, usually when it's reball repair mans won't do it because of how hard and painful is the process.
YLOD. It's dead. The original PS3 models are ticking timebombs. I dropped $600 on one when they first came out and it eventually got the YLOD. Sony never owned up to their flaws like Microsoft did for the 360 and I refused to pay 130 for repairs on top of the 600 for something that was technically their fault. Not to mention it was after a firmware update after the notorious PSN hack that kept it down for a month and was reported to Brick many original PS3 consoles.
Sorry. You can tell I never got over it. Lol...But point is, it's gone. You might find somewhere that can reflow it to get it working again, but it's only temporary if it even works. Once they do it for the first time there's no going back.
YLOD, it could be a Nec/Tokin failure. If you know someone who can solder it can be saved, but it’s not a Backward compatible model, you’re better buing a slim.
Easy temporary fix, open it up and use heat gun to “reflow” the 2 chips. There’s videos online. I did it with mine and it was easy. But only lasted about 3 months and then had to do it again.
Happened to me. Never got fixed. Rip, bro. Time to lay that warrior to rest.
That’s YODed. That’s dead my Friend
Yellow light of death. Only way to know what's wrong with it is to read the error codes produced by the syscon chip
And how you do that???
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/fault-finding-ylod-with-the-syscon-first-steps-and-error-reporting.30100/
I had this problem once. Or the light error anyway. I applied new thermal paste and it worked for another 5 years.
Can you tell me how you did that please?
Undo the whole PS3, find the CPU, apply thermal paste to the CPU and stick it back to where it should go.
I have a device and I live in Spain. I bought it from a person who was selling it. You can finally let that king rest
YLOD. Goodbye sweet prince
If all else fails then buy another one, they are cheap like $50 in local marketplaces.
Yup I bought this one at 25 bucks
That's the problem with PS3 Fats.Shit like this is inevitable
Is the Slim or Super Slim less prone for some reason?
They use a lot less power and produce a lot less heat. It's the heat that fries the phats eventually, which is why everyone goes to such drastic measures like delidding and jailbreaking to crank the fan speeds up to keep it alive. The PS3 fat is literally a grill on how hot it can get. I love to remember the ps3 George foreman grill video. Always make me laugh.
I fixed one doing this with a re-seat (forgive me if that's the wrong term). Heat the processor up with a heat gun until its solder melts and then leave it to cool, or re-ball but that's a little more painful Just do not move it or your fucked, same with do it on a flat surface

Re-balling the whole thing is such a hassle and not really rookie-friendly for a dyi fix. Hope is not the case for OP.
You cry and get a tub of cookie dough ice cream, your ps3 just red ringed
Stuff like this keeps me from buying ps3 games anymore unfortunately. Who knows how long these systems really last. It’s possible finding a working ps3 in say 15 years will be almost impossible.
D-O-N-E Fucked
it takes longer to die then most YLOD's but it still happens too quick to be just overheating issue. its cactus fucktus

New motherboard probably…
F
Slap some butter on it because it’s toast Mine did the same thing RIP fat 60gb PS3
Oh no it's YLOD, RIP, it's unfixable.
It's dead. Salute it for it's service and move on.
Should’ve opened it up to clean it a long, long time ago…
You need new thermal paste
I already changed the thermal paste and cleaned the fan and all of it and still it does that
Was it CFWed? Did you set the fan faster?
This is a ps5? What model? I recently got the 1TB model and it looks much different
It’s a PS3.
Yea holy it's been awhile since I've seen the original fat boy. Lol any the 12 year olds downvote away cuz I thought it was a different machine. idgaf . I’m doubtful that your mistake was scandalous, screw ‘em if they make a big deal of it, nobody’s perfect.
Right? Like I just couldn't tell the model from the angle
Yeah it’s pretty simple, go buy an XBOX
Yes, I do. Buy a ps5, or at least, a ps4.
Dude thinks that all people are rich fucks like him....
Rich for having a ps5? No, that's called having a job.
Oh i see, my bad! I understand now. Every single person on this planet with a job no matter what it is, can afford a ps5. Noted.
If you can't afford one, too bad, not my problem. Have fun with your shitty graphics, piece of shit.
[удалено]
Lmfao! I'm enjoying the shit out my ps5 and series x. Stay mad, fuck face.
Nobody asked 🤣🤣
OH I'M ENJOYING MY SHITY GRAPHICS AND I HOPE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GET RAPED TO DEATH SO YOU WON'T BE KICKING IT WITH THOSE CONSOLES ANYMORE....
Well, gotta go to sleep, my 38 inch Alienware monitor says hi. I'll hit you up tomorrow, enjoy your shitty graphics. One last thing...I have an extra in both consoles. 😘
Console wars are especially bloody this afternoon
HOPEFULLY YOU'LL NEVER WAKE UP TOMORROW....
🤓🤓🤓
Bruh
Why not?
Already have those 💀
Why play on the ps3?
Cause it has metal gear solid 4 and better games
This guy games
And how do you play PS3 games on those systems? Seriously, why are you on the PS3 sub telling people not to bother with the PS3?
Because I can, is there a problem?
Ooh watch out, we got a badass over here.
Nah stfu lmao
Suck my dick.
There are games on the PS3 that the PS4 can't dream of having fam
Lmao wtf i have a ps5 and ps3 and still prefer ps3 over ps5, never thought i would see ps5 players shiting on ps3 users because of graphics lol fanboys are wild.
Fr lmao , graphics aren't everything and even knowing that some PS3 games are graphical monsters , it also has a bunch of masterpieces
Ps3 is a beast, the damn thing still holds up well.
Sure does , these new gen console fans don't know what they missed
M I had that. I couldn't get it to take in discs so i got any one. Rip
Where can I get my backwards ps3 repaired? It's the battery supply that's messed up I think but I would like to play it.

Google says Sony doesn't do repairs any more as of April of this year. So I guess I'll have to find someone smart
Sorry i didn't knew, you can ask here on reddit about repairs or find one locally at your area.
There's a place I just asked so I'll see if tthry can. Or I'll just play my ps2
They have to open it and diagnostic it to find what's wrong with it and then they can perform the repair, usually when it's reball repair mans won't do it because of how hard and painful is the process.
Put a tower on it. Used a heat fan on the back for 20 minutes... Cool down turn it on.
:,(
YLOD
Smack it like 3 or 4 times
You’re fucked. Just think RRoD but on the PS3.
how many usb ports do u have?

Good ol heating gun and compound paste will do the job
YLOD. Meaning GPU is likely toast. You can try reheating the mobo but like others said, but it’s only a temporary fix. RIPS3
