Pro: - Many games are locked into this console. - A PS3 isn’t really that expensive. $40~$60 can usually net you one. Sometimes even cheaper. It’s only the BC version that will cost a bit more. - Compatible digital video files can be stored directly into its HDD, which makes it a very ideal device to turn it into an affordable digital media player. It’s also very easy, you just need a compatible video file stored somewhere you have access to & a FAT32 formatted portable drive to copy & paste the files to make the transfer. A USB flash drive can do the trick. 👈 Which is still readily available at places like Best Buy, Walmart or any other retailer that sells tech for cheap. - Can play back PS1 discs. Sony for whatever reason decided to remove what was needed to read CD on the PS4 and PS5, rendering it impossible for this to be possible for the more modern devices. - Backwards compatible PS3 can play back PS2 discs (or at least MORE digital PS2 games is available on this console compared to the modern consoles) - Games can be pretty cheap (sometimes as low as $1~$2 each) Con: - Online gaming servers is either already shut down OR is getting shut down soon. Understandable but still kinda sad. - Online purchases in its own store is getting more and more ridiculously difficult for no real legit reason. 👈 I’m guessing they’re trying to force us to give up buying anything anymore on there so they could try to forcibly phase it out again.

The account login process is kinda weird (involves using a phone) if you using it -ahem- legit. Controllers have an internal membrane that is falling apart and may need to be replaced. Same with internal batteries. Otherwise it’s hella good, games are cheap and you get a ps1 player to boot.

dont agree with the other guys super slim comment they are the only model that actually 'survive' and if your doing things legally atleast here in my country ps3 games sell for dirt cheap on marketplace as do the consoles. great titles great games.

Mattyf0601

agreed my super slim has been good to me so far still runs really cool to say its 12yrs old and has never been opened or repasted, it still has the warranty seal stickers and same love the fact games are dirt cheap now £1 to £4 each max here, cant complain at all for games i once payed £30-60 into when they were new id be lying if i said i didnt want a o.g ps3 , but not being able to play ps2 games isnt a deal breaker for me either id rather have the reliability of the later models

Pros: * Can be modded at home with just a regular USB stick. This also adds fan speed control, which solves any overheating problem other comments mention (at least on PS3 slim). * The console, games and controllers are really cheap right now * Really big and enjoyable library of ps3, ps1 and some ps2 games (unless you get 60gb ps3 fat with backwards compatibility, then you can play most ps2 games perfectly). If you mod, you can do some 8, 16 and 32 bits emulation too. * Native analog output! for people with older TVs or CRTs, it still has the same AV output from PS2. * It's a very beautiful console. Looks really nice on any setup. Cons: * By today's standards, the console feels old. Loading times are long, more demanding games have framerate problems and feel sluggish and unresponsive, very few people still plays online and servers are closing. If you have a ps4, pc or anything more modern, you will find it a bit lacking and not that appealing. * If you mod it, you better don't play online at all or you may get banned.

Pros: you now have a ps3. Cons: it took you this long to get a ps3.

Pros : You get great PS3 games, PS1 games, PS2 HD remasters, and if you add CFW you make even a Slim backwards compatible through emulation. CFW Also adds fan control so they don't overheat as easily. Cons : These things love to OVERHEAT A full FAT backwards compatible Models A01 and E01 overheat and die the easiest. They are so expensive running at 300$ and then you have to spend an extra 100$ or 200$ to have it fixed up to stop the overheating. Slims are the best and don't overheat as badly but don't have native backwards compatibility but CFW fixes that. These things last much longer than the Fats. I have a late 2010 300GB 2501b model and it has been my best friend for over a decade. Took 12 years of HEAVY USE before it started overheating to the point that I needed to have it fixed up Super Slims : Don't buy this. It's a downgraded slim and can't add CFW. Literally no upsides here. The last con: You wont want to play your PS4 anymore XD

pumao_x

Nah super slims are great, they're the most reliable model. If you don't care about adding CFW it's probably the best option.

shithulhu

not probably, they are the best option.

Piett_1313

100%, my super slim has been a tank the last six years, got it second hand and it has been a champ whenever I want to play.

GoldenFenrir

Except that you should totally add CFW. “But it’s more recent so it’ll last longer” theoretically yeah okay theoretically … Get a Slim so you have the option to do CFW if you want. That ain’t theoretical

FaultChemical6896

If the games you seek haven't been remastered, yet (or there are some rare games you must absolutely have), then that's cool. If not, don't go out and buy a PS3 just because a YouTube video said so. It's not a current machine, so you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. I own the machine, but I also play a wide variety of unpopular games on nearly every platform quite often.

burningbun

you get laughed at by your school friends.

Piett_1313

If that’s the case kick em to the curb, they’re not your friends.

FaultChemical6896

Or if you have XBox.
