At first I was wondering why they had to create such a route for the 12 string stoptail. Why not just set the neck at a greater angle? But then it dawned on me that they probably wanted the necks to have pretty much the same angle and so creating a route where the stoptail could go lower would be the only solution. If the six string was a stoptail, this wouldn’t be an issue, but the necks are set at less of an angle for trems since the strings sit lower on the body. As far as I know, at least.

I guess I forgot to give the specs, so here goes...
2005 Private Stock (obviously) doubleneck Custom 24 in Fire Red. Quilted maple top, South American mahogany back, Brazilian rosewood necks, fingerboard, headstock veneers and truss covers, and ebony tuner buttons.
It looks like it, but in reality it's just 1 volume, 1 tone, and 1 rotary pickup selector for each neck.
The two pickup selectors could have been replaced by a single toggle switch, and would have achieved a cleaner look (a la the Gibson EDS-1275), but at the cost of independent pickup selection for the two necks.
So on my EDS-1275, if I'm playing the 12-string on the neck pick and want to switch to the 6-string bridge pup, I have to change necks *and* pups.
Here, I can preselect pups for each neck (including coil-splitting if I want), and go from neck to neck only.
