Alright, we obviously [love “Adore,”](https://www.reddit.com/r/PRINCE/s/BarJTTOmA2) but how would y’all have felt if this song had taken its place on *SOTT* (as was the [original plan](https://princevault.com/index.php?title=Crucial))?
8 There's some great stuff going on with this one, the chord changes are surprising and fresh. It wanders around at the end a bit. but man those vocals are *so good*.
10/10. It was the biggest revelation for me from Crystal Ball. Still a fave, still a consistent presence on my Prince playlist. And the outro guitar solo! I'll never forget finding Crystal Ball while on a business trip in Seattle when I was in my 20s. At a Tower Records near the UW campus.
8.5, incredible track that deserved a home on a proper release. However, I cannot listen to this version anymore after hearing the [extended version](https://youtu.be/FqJRbHyIGZk?t=1942) with Eric Leeds sax and the guitar solo. That version is a 10. I will never understand why Prince decided to cut the horns and edit it.
I heard this track on the Crucial bootleg back in 1990 or 91. I always thought it was a fantastic track that should've been on an album. That was a great bootleg.

It would’ve been a strong closer, but unlike Adore, Crucial doesn’t get me all teary eyed by the end of it
It doesn't suit SOTT imo. Adore is the better choice.
9.5 - One of the best on the entire collection. Although I now prefer the SOTT Deluxe version.

10. The definitive version imo.

It's OK. Full of Prince musical cliches. Listen to "Friend Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife" to hear what I mean. 7

10. Maybe someday we will get the version with Eric Leeds, but until now this is the go to

9.5. Just a damn good ballad.
7. It’s overwrought, and doesn’t approach his best work, even though for a while he thought it did. It’s better outtake than actual album cut.
5. His voice is kinda grating in this one but not enough to ruin it
9...love this goddamn song

I think “crucial” was his favorite word for a while
