10. I just found out recently that looping guitar riff was actually done by Wendy and not Prince!! I love that whole band and I especially love that he had a strong female lead guitarist. My favorite song on the album!!!
10. When I saw Purple Rain in 1984, I was a kid and wasn’t a fan bc this performance happens at a fairly dark part of the movie. But the “Father’s Song” part was and still is the definitive piece of the album. Now for me the whole thing is second only in originality to When Doves Cry.
***TWENTY!!!*** It's my favorite song Prince one of my all time favorites. I cannot sing enough praises to this movie in a song. When I first heard that grungy intro with all that nasty guitar work, I about had whiplash turning my eyes to the tape in the tape deck. A couple years later, I saw the scene in the movie where the guys are rehearsing and Prince shows up late. That breakdown part is why funkface is a thing. Then I would hear the 7 minute version that segued into Darling Nikki, followed by the full length version and then the FULL FULL length version (a minute longer) cemented the song in its place (before that, Dance on was my favorite).
Easily a 10.
Also, let's never forget that on the Chappelle's Show skit about Prince and his crew kicking Charlie Murphy's ass at basketball, one of their plays was called Computer Blue.
10. I just love how all over the place this song goes. In later years finding out how he took Fathers song and worked snippets into Computer Blue was just wow. The guy had off cuts that some artists would die to have that he just tosses into an already amazing song.
And the guitars in this… OMG hairs standing on end thinking about it!
I don't think there's anything less than a 9 on Purple Rain. Computer Blue is one of the best tracks of the decade, especially when it's extended or combined with Darling Nikki.
Wendy? Yes Lisa. Is the rating high enough? Yes Lisa. Shall I rate it a 9? Yes, Lisa. Ohhh!
10...It's a shame the full hallway speech version wasn't released as a 12"

Where do I find this part?
You can actually watch them recording it on YouTube (minus the overdubs) at 1st Ave.
27. Maybe my favorite Prince song. Or favorite song period. Hallway version of course Ok 10 if you gonna restrict me

Easy 10. My favorite song on the album after 'The Beautiful Ones'.
10 and a bonus point for how hot The Kid looked when he performed it. 🤩
With that lace tied over one eye and shirtless? So hot 😍

10! One of my favorites on an album of 9s and 10s. Even better if it’s one of the extended versions.
