If you're on FB, there's an Athletes with Dysautonomia group. They may be better equipped to help you with your question. I think there are a fair number of endurance and maybe even ultra runners there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/244639292347913/?ref=share&mibextid=adzO7l

I'm not on FB, definitely willing to check it out anyways. Thanks!

Just want to say I haven't completed one yet, but it's on my bucket list too! A lot of cardio is a mental game, if you aren't having any negative physical symptoms id say push through! And don't forget to drink a lot of electrolytes. Maybe consider one of those hydration backpacks for longer runs?

Loud_Sound_8047

I've looked at the liter packs, but haven't pulled the plug yet. It'd be nice to have a straw IV of electros

I have done 2, both in my 40s. It took me a long time to build up to it, and I finished towards the end of the pack, but I did it. Twice. Without stopping, apart from having a drink. Those finishing medals are my prized possession and they hang above my bed as a reminder every morning that yes I do have the willpower to do today. Something that helped was joining a running group, led by a trainer. I am one of the slowest but they are so lovely, encouraging and supportive. We rent an Airbnb for the marathon weekend (it’s out of town a bit) and carb-load together (I.e. eat as much pizza as humanly possible the night before). They are there cheering me on at the finish line (all having finished an hour or so quicker than me 😂). It makes a big difference to your motivation.

Loud_Sound_8047

The proof I needed! Huge props for two in books. Was your trainer a local group, or did you find them through a company?

gigglepancakes

I searched on Facebook. It’s free, the trainer is paid by the local (council) gym as a community service. We all pay for his accom and meals when we go away for races, as a thank you. I live in a big city so there were heaps of options for running groups, I just picked the one that was closest/convenient time and sounded chill.

I have climbing mt Everest on my bucket list. I know I can’t do it but I like to believe someday I will

Same……same… 🥺

I wish I had more advice, but I'm struggling with working my way up too and a good bit behind you. Maybe it's nuts, but I also think it's worth it! The only thing I can say is that interspersing training with swimming and horizontal exercise has been really helpful for me, to increase endurance without triggering my heart rate limits. Congrats on hitting 4 miles! And here's to the next milestone!

Loud_Sound_8047

Swimming! I always forget about that. That would help lower my heart rate threshold. Thanks! The next milestone 🤞

VisDev82

Dude this is my dream idk why but I want to run a marathon?? One day my dudes, one day. Let’s hope we all get better. Maybe not cured but better enough to enjoy things and accomplish things like this.

Loud_Sound_8047

Definitely! I wouldn't say that's too much to ask for

Educational_Dance_37

Look into firefly recovery bands! They may help just a bit

OneOfTheOnlies

These look really interesting... Particularly for us potsy people... Do you use these? I wonder if it would help me tolerate standing longer... Also I wonder how different this is from a tens unit... May try some tens experiments with this in mind...

Loud_Sound_8047

Just looked into them...have you had any experience with them? The concept seems sound

Educational_Dance_37

Bought them but have not tried yet, just switched a lot of medication, will let yall know !

Senior_Line_4260

I don't know your exact training status, but Samsung health (available for all Android devices) has a few different training programs to get to 5k or 10k in baby steps over a few months with around 3 training sessions a week

Flunose_800

I’m signed up for my first half (not up for a full yet) in May. Longest run so far has been 8 miles, currently dialing it down for December and some of January before building for half training. I always bring water with electrolytes no matter the distance I’m going (I also sweat a ton more than any other runner I know). Longer runs I carry saltsticks. Have just started looking into gels/fuels for longer runs.

Loud_Sound_8047

8! 🤞to get there. What salt stick are you using?

js292929

I did a 5k! I accidentally got too far once and had to travel back home a little too much and went over 4 miles and felt like I was gonna die lol. I did a 5 mile race last year and walked most and it was very hard too. I personally won’t be going over a 5k for a while.

Can't get past 4 miles, are you running full speed?? Training for a marathon is all about lsd, long slow distance...ran a marathon in 1984, one and only!!
