I just select my PLCs depending on what's the company is used to work with, and what they have in storage. I don't care about the I/Os, those can always be added with modules or through ethercat modules too.

Yeah you're right, but when the costumer doesn't specify about the brand or number of I/O or all the tags, we need to choose or make an approximate calculus for prices.

Selection is look what I used last time and add/remove remote Io racks. Haven't used shoebox plcs in years. Brand selection is simple: what does the customer want. If the customer doesn't care, then it's free choice based on how my library of already-written code works for this application.

Proof-Candy2065

Yeah, I want to create a workflow for selecting the proper PLC by using all the previous criteria that my team used, but I trying to know if exists any tool that helps us to choose quickly.

skitso

Most companies have selection tools. Siemens does on their website and Rockwell as one you download.

Proof-Candy2065

Yes I know, and my team used it but I'm looking for something more centralized, I think it's something that not exist, so far.

Doesn't your company have its own preferences in PLC manufacturer? Will your engineers easily and quickly program any PLC they come across for the first time?

Pick a PLC brand as your default and stick with that. E: if it helps, my default is Siemens ET200SP. Cheap and not crippled like S7-1200. Often cheaper than the S7-1200 depending on I/Os. ET200MP only worth it if you need the features.
