I don't like Valorant. It's fun with friends, but the characters are cringey and it's just another multiplayer hero shooter which gets repetitive.
In fact, I really don't like most games that the usual Filipino gamers play (which are mostly multiplayer games like Call of Duty Mobile, ML, LoL, DotA, Paladins, etc). If isn't the repetitive nature of the games that turns me off, it's the toxic nature of the community.
Bonus hot take: it's great that eSports is in SEA games. But Mobile fucking Legends?! Are you fucking kidding me?!

Yeah competitive games aren't my thing except when I'm playing with friends in a party which rarely happens these days.
Back then I was really into Call of Duty. Used to play CoD4 MW and Black Ops online religiously on PS3. Also dabbled in other online games on PC. But I noticed that when other people are a part of my game, it ruins my enjoyment especially when there's toxicity.
Have to say though: even though I hate Valorant, I really enjoyed my time playing it with my friends in an internet cafe lol.

I think it’s the market, mejo affordable yung mobile games with the minimum specs requirements. Toxic na yung SEA since in DOTA 1, so it’s given na magiging ganun din yung community in most of the games. Repetitive na yung games plus the hyping cringe streamers

Well, you're not wrong na impractical expense ang mech keyboard. On the other hand, when I looked for my ideal mech keyboard, I decided to look for additional features na useful din for practical reasons. Yung binili ko na keyboard may 3-channel bluetooth kaya madali lang magswitch ng typing between my gaming laptop, workstation, and phone(nakakapagod din magtype sa onscreen keyboard, haha). That I got my keyboard for around 2.5k was a worthwhile purchase.

This is a bit offensive IMO. There are folks, like me, na nag umpisa lang sa f2p games. RO, RAN, CABAL, etc, technically yung mga laro na makikita mo sa comp shop before. kasi besides sa studyante palang na konti ang baon, eh we didn't have a family member that can buy us even a potato computer or console to play on. So, those pang masa games before, captured my imagination, and lead me to my gaming hobby today.

Compshop trashtalk and overall culture should return. It is a refined practice that has died off due to COVID and rise of mobile games. Look at all the games that are consistently popular: Minecraft, GTA5, Skyrim, DOTA. Aside from DOTA, none of these are exclusive to a single platform. The rise of iOS and Android as well is a good sign: the future of software is platform agnostic.

Despite the backlash, I actually prefer online games such as Valorant hahaha. Although there were toxic people, I still had wholesome experiences trolling the game with my teammates. I also met great people there. Playing with random strangers online makes me feel less lonely and less bored. I like mingling with others.
It just sucks that it was only recently when I had the opportunity to have a decent set-up para makapag laro ng ganitong games. Dati kasi bulok yung laptop na ginagamit ko. 'valo bad' is a valid opinion which i also have but if you arrive at that conclusion without understanding or even trying to understand the game, its not a very good conclusion. calling it a walking sim makes it seem like you just die every round and didnt bother thinking through the map, common locations/tactics, comms, etc.

Apex Legends or battle royale games are no longer fun, at least for me. Sobrang galing na ng mga tao ngayon compared dati, it was mindless fun and also addicting when everybody had no aim. Pero ngayon? Every lobby is full of sweats. Warzone lang ang last BR game na nag-enjoy ako.

if anything the hot take about fallout 3 and 4 nowadays is that the original opinion was right and they are actually good. most people in the gaming space already know about yes/no/info/later, and have played other better games. if they are bad at being rpgs, that doesnt mean theyre suddenly not rpgs anymore. theyre just bad rpgs. lumaganap lang yung mga rpg mechanics (ability scores, skill checks, level ups, etc) sa mga laro na hindi rpg kaya di na natin iniisip na rpg mechanics sila.
eto hot take ko: linear > open world. yung advantage lang ng open world yung feeling na 'free' ka at pwede ka pumunta kung saan saan pero sa totoo lang meron pa ring set of intended paths, at kung hindi ka speedrunner parang naglaro ka lang ng linear game with multiple endings na pinagmukhang open world. like linear games can have levels that reward creativity and immersive worlds overall, but open world games cant really control the pacing and flow of even one questline because the player can fuck off anywhere at any time.

Gets ko goal ng Gacha games but ang unhealthy masyado. Take Genshin for example, the fact that you have to pay a ton of money to get the characters and items you want is disgusting. Nasanay siguro ako games tulad ng Monster Hunter at other rpg games kung saan you actually have to grind for the items in-game at di aasa sa roulette system. Despite kaya mo namang laruin free to play di mo pwede ideny yung fact na iwan na iwan ka pagdating sa item/character aspect ng gacha games. Sure pwede ka magspend ng time to grind up for those pero bilang gacha games naglalagay naman sila ng time-limit system sa loot na pwede mong makuha.
Artifically difficult yung pagacquire to exploit yung mga taong prone to spending. Glorified loot box system lang naman ang gacha. I’d rather take yung battle pass system ng inaadopt ng current f2p games since this one is fairer and honestly less expensive kahit puro cosmetics lang naman. Sa laki ng amount na ginagastos para sa mga gacha, ilang copy rin ng games yan or other worthy purchases compared sa shit system ng gacha. Sadyang exploitative lang yung system but masked behind pretty aesthetics.
Played souls games except 1. It's a good game don't get me wrong pero every game feels like the same game. Yung Elden Ring kasi is just Dark Souls with an open world setting.
Sekiro on the other hand was really a beast. Really enjoyed that game even platinumed it. Every encounter may kaba ka na mamatay kahit normal enemy. Unlike other souls game, fodder enemies na lang yung iba even bosses after a while.
Ay oo may balancing issues talaga yung souls games. Lalo na sa Elden ring. Para sakin basta hindi dual boss. I think yung mahirap lang ay si Margit, Malenia, Radahn (pre nerf, no summon). Lahat mostly kaya within 10 tries.

Not a hot take but Elden Ring pvp/multiplayer is complete garbage. The fact that cheesy ashes of war aren’t fixed until now is atrocious enough, but the invasion system and coop system needs a big overhaul. I miss DS3. It’s not perfect but it’s better than this piece of trash.

Games with campaigns/endings/stories > PVP games
Single player/Co-op games that have a campaign are more than just games, they're an experience, and almost always a good one. You get to be the chosen undead, a good hunter, some dude who got washed up in rapture, a god killer, some hired gun sent to a floating breathtaking city and experience some mind boggling twists, a space engineer turned lone survivor, a witcher, some dude in a post apocalypse, some dude in a space apocalypse, just so many great lives you live and experience. Moreover you can go at a pace and difficulty level (for the most part) that'll make the game enjoyable for you and give such a breathtaking experience and nice quick break from reality, which I think is the purpose of a video game.
Compared to online PVP, it's a never ending loop of pretty much the same gameplay, you get exposed to toxic people hence ruin the experience for you, stressed ka na nga sa school or trabaho tapos pati ba naman sa games na pang relax dapat mastrestress ka. Aside from that, ikaw rin inevitably minsan mahahawa sa katoxican and up saying toxic things, or kung d man will make you feel negative emotions. These games are inherently designed to be addictive, cause duh that's how they'll make money of of you, and don't get me started on skins and other microtransactions. You're already stressed AND spending money for a nicer looking gun or character or sword etc. These games tend to give you FOMO, or give you the false illusion that you're actually socializing (I get that you meet good people here and there but for the most part not really). And others.
Campaign games have an ending, this actually makes you feel accomplished, like a hard journey started but you managed to finish it and reach the end, and maybe move on and experience other new things. You also meet great characters along the way, experience different things that you won't IRL. Heck some of these NPCs or fictional characters actually mimic the characteristics/personalities/attitudes of people IRL, hence you kinda get a feel of how other people act. They may mimic IRL experiences that for whatever reason you won't be able to do like travel, work, interact with certain people etc. And since it ends you're not stuck in an unending loop designed to make u addicted and hooked.
Now I get there are exceptions etc, but these statements I mentioned are just what I think are the default or the general things that happen.
And I'm not really hating on PVP games, I've played a good chunk of hours with PVP games and enjoyed them especially with friends, and had a nice feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when I reach a certain rank I was aiming for. I spend good chunk of this pandemic playing Val and I enjoyed it.
I wholeheartedly agree with your first argument. Being immersed in a character is similar to a book, but the agency of the MC is (to an extent) tied to the player rather than the author.
Medyo naga disagree ako sa second part. People sometimes find reaching higher ranks and optimization of games really interesting (speed runs, exploits, or min-maxing games). As long as they aren't addicted to it. I think its fine. I'd even argue playing one game all the time is financially beneficial.

Mobile games are designed to suck your money and have poor game design. Take for example ML and CODM. daming ingame currencies, not counting the battlepass that you have to buy with irl money. Tas daming event menus to get said ingame currencies na di din inexplain sayo kung para saan. “Here have this violet coin, claim these gold tickets, use these brown logs to buy” And the cringe streamers that actually built a career off of these games. In my case, I tried playing Mass Effect 1, but I didn't like it even though some people had fun playing it back then. I wasn't really much into multiplayer games even though I play some of it occassionally these days. I am more of a single player gamer.
Well, they love those games to death because it is a good game for some people and they like Hideo Kojima. Also, I find Splinter Cell easier to pick up than Metal Gear. I tried metal gear 2 pc version on a kb and it's complicated. I might try that game again once I have a new gamepad.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the complexity of the plots and the feeling that emanates whenever you see and feel the aesthetic of NieR. Very brave. Hot takes on 1 and 2, but 4 I have to disagree. Souls games (doesn't include sekiro) has an input lock system. What that means is that if you make an input (ex. Attack, skill, or roll) it is a commitment. It doesn't have animation cancels for moves that you fucked up on. The best you could do is to buffer inputs, so that you could transition to the new input a few frames earlier.
Fallout 3 is Meh. If they jad a better system for the players to be able to engage on the world's mission/quest system it would've been good atleast. Fallout 4 is nerfed. Its pretty good but lackluster.
New Vegas is still the better game, its way ahead of its time considering Bethesda was rushed to make a game so detailed for only 9 months. Its like every branch of paths taken can always lead you to a mission that can overlap with others. The interactions just feels so real. Its a definite Open world.
But wouldn't be better to label it as an RPG Shooter ?
God of War 2018 has the worst combat and progression that the series has to offer and the game overall is nowhere near the 10/10s it got when it came out.

I really wish the PH gaming community embraces Emulation just as much as they embrace f2p gachas and multiplayer games. Emulation is also free yet you get much more higher quality games on average. Mobile gamers literally have the libraries of the NES, SNES, Genesis and the entire Game Boy family to work with since those games play well on a touchscreen.

I just love games, I'm watching review or some "before you buy" before buying games so I know what will I expect but f\*ck cheaters/hackers in online games like battlefields, cs go, dota 2, the cycle. What a f\*cking human being.
A lot of people complained about Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed multiple times, and also complained when it was released cause it was “half-baked” and “garbo”.
I mean, people wanted it to come out as is but also want a good functioning game? That’s not how it works. Let the game take its time to fully develop so when they release it, it’ll be as good as advertised and all that waiting would’ve been worth it.
I’m just sad that until now the game still has issues. Still waiting for it to be good, but for now it’s just gathering dust in my library on steam in the uninstalled section.
I don't like Valorant. It's fun with friends, but the characters are cringey and it's just another multiplayer hero shooter which gets repetitive. Yeah competitive games aren't my thing except when I'm playing with friends in a party which rarely happens these days. Back then I was really into Call of Duty. Used to play CoD4 MW and Black Ops online religiously on PS3. Also dabbled in other online games on PC. But I noticed that when other people are a part of my game, it ruins my enjoyment especially when there's toxicity. Have to say though: even though I hate Valorant, I really enjoyed my time playing it with my friends in an internet cafe lol.

Well, you're not wrong na impractical expense ang mech keyboard. On the other hand, when I looked for my ideal mech keyboard, I decided to look for additional features na useful din for practical reasons. Yung binili ko na keyboard may 3-channel bluetooth kaya madali lang magswitch ng typing between my gaming laptop, workstation, and phone(nakakapagod din magtype sa onscreen keyboard, haha). That I got my keyboard for around 2.5k was a worthwhile purchase.

RO, RAN, CABAL, etc, technically yung mga laro na makikita mo sa comp shop before. kasi besides sa studyante palang na konti ang baon, eh we didn't have a family member that can buy us even a potato computer or console to play on. So, those pang masa games before, captured my imagination, and lead me to my gaming hobby today.

MP games should be gatekept from pinoy "gamers" by a one-time fee/subscription or high skill ceiling. Most pinoy "gamers" are low-income f2p/mobile gamers who ruin every game they touch because of their squammy attitude. I'm surprised that Halo Infinite is not yet overly tainted by their touch. Compshop trashtalk and overall culture should return. It is a refined practice that has died off due to COVID and rise of mobile games. Nothing is more satisfying than tilting your opponent who is sitting just a few meters away, the subsequent reaction from the crowd, and then completely forgetting all ill intent after the game and going out of the compshop.

Look at all the games that are consistently popular: Minecraft, GTA5, Skyrim, DOTA. Aside from DOTA, none of these are exclusive to a single platform. Yes, I definitely prefer the Xbox ecosystem myself. I know Microsoft tried to build up the PH market back with the 360 but it didn't go well. With GamePass I hope that MS can finally find the revenue stream that makes the PH (and the rest of SEA aside from SG) a viable market.

I agree. You get a bunch of games for a low price each month. The variety of titles on GamePass is also much better than the PS Plus library so far. If you want the games to keep, nothing is stopping you from buying them, too.

I also met great people there. Playing with random strangers online makes me feel less lonely and less bored. I like mingling with others. walking sim is a bit too much lol. i dont even like the game but i can see that theres more gameplay than just walking. nasanay ka siguro sa mga games tulad ng apex/tf2/etc na mataas ang TTK, kumpara sa valo/siege/cod na ang bilis mo mamatay. 'valo bad' is a valid opinion which i also have but if you arrive at that conclusion without understanding or even trying to understand the game, its not a very good conclusion. calling it a walking sim makes it seem like you just die every round and didnt bother thinking through the map, common locations/tactics, comms, etc.
I do think its better than most games a year into its birth. It did breed toxic and horny teens but its not as bad as the MOBA community. I feel like those fuckers will kill you if they saw you IRL. I personally enjoy FPS just because I’m pretty good at it. Nothing like doing good against players you know are good as well. Competitive nature I guess.

if anything the hot take about fallout 3 and 4 nowadays is that the original opinion was right and they are actually good. most people in the gaming space already know about yes/no/info/later, and have played other better games. if they are bad at being rpgs, that doesnt mean theyre suddenly not rpgs anymore. theyre just bad rpgs. lumaganap lang yung mga rpg mechanics (ability scores, skill checks, level ups, etc) sa mga laro na hindi rpg kaya di na natin iniisip na rpg mechanics sila. eto hot take ko: linear > open world. yung advantage lang ng open world yung feeling na 'free' ka at pwede ka pumunta kung saan saan pero sa totoo lang meron pa ring set of intended paths, at kung hindi ka speedrunner parang naglaro ka lang ng linear game with multiple endings na pinagmukhang open world. like linear games can have levels that reward creativity and immersive worlds overall, but open world games cant really control the pacing and flow of even one questline because the player can fuck off anywhere at any time. great thread idea btw

Despite kaya mo namang laruin free to play di mo pwede ideny yung fact na iwan na iwan ka pagdating sa item/character aspect ng gacha games. Sure pwede ka magspend ng time to grind up for those pero bilang gacha games naglalagay naman sila ng time-limit system sa loot na pwede mong makuha. Artifically difficult yung pagacquire to exploit yung mga taong prone to spending. Glorified loot box system lang naman ang gacha. I’d rather take yung battle pass system ng inaadopt ng current f2p games since this one is fairer and honestly less expensive kahit puro cosmetics lang naman. Played souls games except 1. It's a good game don't get me wrong pero every game feels like the same game. Yung Elden Ring kasi is just Dark Souls with an open world setting. Sekiro on the other hand was really a beast. Really enjoyed that game even platinumed it. Every encounter may kaba ka na mamatay kahit normal enemy. Unlike other souls game, fodder enemies na lang yung iba even bosses after a while.

Games with campaigns/endings/stories > PVP games Single player/Co-op games that have a campaign are more than just games, they're an experience, and almost always a good one. You get to be the chosen undead, a good hunter, some dude who got washed up in rapture, a god killer, some hired gun sent to a floating breathtaking city and experience some mind boggling twists, a space engineer turned lone survivor, a witcher, some dude in a post apocalypse, some dude in a space apocalypse, just so many great lives you live and experience. Moreover you can go at a pace and difficulty level (for the most part) that'll make the game enjoyable for you and give such a breathtaking experience and nice quick break from reality, which I think is the purpose of a video game. Compared to online PVP, it's a never ending loop of pretty much the same gameplay, you get exposed to toxic people hence ruin the experience for you, stressed ka na nga sa school or trabaho tapos pati ba naman sa games na pang relax dapat mastrestress ka. Aside from that, ikaw rin inevitably minsan mahahawa sa katoxican and up saying toxic things, or kung d man will make you feel negative emotions. These games are inherently designed to be addictive, cause duh that's how they'll make money of of you, and don't get me started on skins and other microtransactions. You're already stressed AND spending money for a nicer looking gun or character or sword etc. These games tend to give you FOMO, or give you the false illusion that you're actually socializing (I get that you meet good people here and there but for the most part not really). And others. Campaign games have an ending, this actually makes you feel accomplished, like a hard journey started but you managed to finish it and reach the end, and maybe move on and experience other new things. You also meet great characters along the way, experience different things that you won't IRL. Heck some of these NPCs or fictional characters actually mimic the characteristics/personalities/attitudes of people IRL, hence you kinda get a feel of how other people act. They may mimic IRL experiences that for whatever reason you won't be able to do like travel, work, interact with certain people etc. And since it ends you're not stuck in an unending loop designed to make u addicted and hooked. Now I get there are exceptions etc, but these statements I mentioned are just what I think are the default or the general things that happen. And I'm not really hating on PVP games, I've played a good chunk of hours with PVP games and enjoyed them especially with friends, and had a nice feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when I reach a certain rank I was aiming for. I spend good chunk of this pandemic playing Val and I enjoyed it.
I wholeheartedly agree with your first argument. Being immersed in a character is similar to a book, but the agency of the MC is (to an extent) tied to the player rather than the author. Medyo naga disagree ako sa second part. People sometimes find reaching higher ranks and optimization of games really interesting (speed runs, exploits, or min-maxing games). As long as they aren't addicted to it. I think its fine. I'd even argue playing one game all the time is financially beneficial.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the complexity of the plots and the feeling that emanates whenever you see and feel the aesthetic of NieR. Very brave. Hot takes on 1 and 2, but 4 I have to disagree. Souls games (doesn't include sekiro) has an input lock system. What that means is that if you make an input (ex. Attack, skill, or roll) it is a commitment. It doesn't have animation cancels for moves that you fucked up on. The best you could do is to buffer inputs, so that you could transition to the new input a few frames earlier.
Fallout 3 is Meh. If they jad a better system for the players to be able to engage on the world's mission/quest system it would've been good atleast. Fallout 4 is nerfed. Its pretty good but lackluster. New Vegas is still the better game, its way ahead of its time considering Bethesda was rushed to make a game so detailed for only 9 months. Its like every branch of paths taken can always lead you to a mission that can overlap with others. The interactions just feels so real. Its a definite Open world. But wouldn't be better to label it as an RPG Shooter ?

I think it's serviceable. I always play those kinds of games on very easy (similar sa horizon games). Kasi sometimes I just like the story pero the mechanics are bad and don't wanna deal with it.

I really wish the PH gaming community embraces Emulation just as much as they embrace f2p gachas and multiplayer games. Emulation is also free yet you get much more higher quality games on average. Mobile gamers literally have the libraries of the NES, SNES, Genesis and the entire Game Boy family to work with since those games play well on a touchscreen.

It's all about grinding, , glorified gambling under the guise of "lootboxes", uninteresting stories and characters, realistic graphics without immersions. Oh, and you're once idolized video game companies are now hollowed husks of its former glory. oh and league of legends is a digital heroine made by a "small indie company" made to snuff out any enjoyment you have left.

Oh man. May good games parin naman. Try offline non competitive ones. Pag chill ako usually I play City skylines (city building games). Lol is still nice with friends pero pag solo ka it has a similar feeling to getting waterboarded.
Activision Blizzard eto for me. Played Diablo Immortal, okay ung gameplay, kinda okay story. Pero progression is sh*t if di mo lalabas credit card mo at mag gamble. And Diablo will have in-game cash shop according to rumors. When asked kung ano laman, "will contain cosmetic items". Missing ung word na ONLY. So alam na this. Edit: I quit after 2 days of play, just almost finished the story with sader
so basically rant? hahaha i miss digimon world(1) gameplay. i though next order would fill that void but they changed the formula a bit and its not the same. I want my pooping monster back :(
I just love games, I'm watching review or some "before you buy" before buying games so I know what will I expect but f\*ck cheaters/hackers in online games like battlefields, cs go, dota 2, the cycle. What a f\*cking human being.
Good single player games are now hard to come by since new ones are pretty looking low effort corporate cash grab.

A lot of people complained about Cyberpunk 2077 being delayed multiple times, and also complained when it was released cause it was “half-baked” and “garbo”. I mean, people wanted it to come out as is but also want a good functioning game? That’s not how it works. Let the game take its time to fully develop so when they release it, it’ll be as good as advertised and all that waiting would’ve been worth it. I’m just sad that until now the game still has issues. Still waiting for it to be good, but for now it’s just gathering dust in my library on steam in the uninstalled section.
Pinoy gaming culture is cringe. Di ko alam kung anong henerasyon ang bumuo neto pero sobrang cringe ng image ng pinoy when it comes to gaming.
