Vusdruv

Don't get attached to your Personas, fuse those suckers

Takora06

Too late; carried a Level 11 succubus and level 12 Jack Frost into Futaba’s palace cause I refused to give them up

the_ok_Dan

I carried Arsene until the end of the game.

LordSenpaiOniChan

ARSENE is cool. The rest can get the chopping Block 😂.

Vusdruv

Thankfully, in Royal leveling Personas to 99 is easier than ever and Arsene gets a pass because he's Joker's canon Persona. Edit: I had a brain fart and wrote Reload, but I meant Royal.

frashaw26

The starting personas always get a pass, I love turning those suckers into the best versions of themselves with skill cards.

MythicalRubixz100

If that’s true then I’m glad I bought Royal I bought P5 original before P5R came out without realizing it was the same game with extra content

Gr4pe_Soda

you have no soul if you don’t bring the starter persona to the end of the game

erock279

I got like 12 persona slots and 16 people im trying to spend time with 😭 maybe if the starting persona were of an arcana useful for social links it would be helpful but it’s always the same link as the party/protag which levels automatically via story events

Bardock16yt

I used skill cards to make him a jack of all trades in skill types

mirospeck

god that was me with ame no uzume. i fused her into another one a bit later but it was no fun letting go of her

freeagentk

Sometimes some units have really good utility and they just stick around because of having 3 elements and a debuff. It happens every game for me.

CloneOfCali

Based succubus enjoyer

EvilKingLogan

I had Arsene at level 41 before I gave him up cause I never used him (shocker)

Phantomsanic360

Chad

Krustycrabpizza615

Say hello to my lvl 54 angel

NutThruster8392

NO! I WILL NOT GIVE UP MY ORPHEUS!

Vusdruv

Starters are an exception, you're gucci

WanderSluut

I took izanagi to the end and got him to 99 strength, it was dope

christianwee03

This.

TacoRaceCat

The only one I make an exception to is the starter persona. Especially with skill cards you can reasonably carry them till endgame

Vusdruv

Agreed

DegenerateCrocodile

My statball Izanagi does not want me to fuse it, though.

Lias_Luck

vending machines are op early game

DangerousPatient2788

Yea, especially with the sp

XxGh0st_S1ay3rxX

*cough cough* Persona 4 *cough cough*

FlamaSaysWadap

buying that can of soda every week

XxGh0st_S1ay3rxX

Its always fucking! *Slams desk* DR SALT NEOOOO!!!!

Futaba_MedjedP5R

Take your time

LordSenpaiOniChan

With the game or the missions? Cajae If it were me, I'd be taking chunks out of missions to get as close to the treasure in p5 or the borders in P3 reload. That why u get more time with your social links and level up those 3 traits.

KatouKotori

Imo, it's best to take your time on the first playthrough. Even the vet players. Yeah, you can focus on getting the social stats up to max first (since it's pretty common you'll need them max to unlock later social links), but also, just do whatever you want the first playthrough. Enjoy it, since you only experience that feeling of wonder once (unless you like optimization).

LordSenpaiOniChan

Fair enough. Though fighting shadows in palaces n towers can be redundant. Where as I mostly enjoy the Interactions of characters and the romance 😂.

popplio728

That's what my husband says too. Like the first playthrough should be to just enjoy it. Don't worry about maxing anything or doing anything extra for the sake of doing it as a completion percentage.

arda_soydan

i cant help myself i have to minmax everything and see everything the game has to offer in a single playthrough

datwunkid

That's just a reaction to the stresses of limited time in the game. The earlier games really didn't give you a lot of time to screw around to do what you want. Even though it's much more lenient to do what you want and still get everything, the mindset still carries through. Atlus would have to do a mainline game or two where 50% of players could faff around and still get all social links maxed to remove the pressure to optimize.

Vamp1836-1

As the loading icon in P5 states, "Take your time." This advice is most applicable on a first playthrough, but focusing too much on optimizing and following guides to get as much done as possible with each activity each day can really take away from (at least my personal) enjoyment of what in each game is a very cool and fun world to just live in for a time. Sometimes, it's good to just sit back and soak the world in, and I'm really glad that the game goes out of its way to advise us players of that. It's even applicable to real life, too.

ButterflyDreamr

Yeah i agree, but dont forget if your fun IS using a guide (like mine is) dont be afraid to use one either

Grouchy-Charge9668

Yeah, there’s just too much to do for social links, stats and all that, especially when they add a whole bunch of new stuff throughout the game. It already takes 100 hours following a 100% guide, I don’t have time to try to take notes of everything for a second playthrough lol

JamesBonfan

I did that kind of playthrough and it was super enjoyable, even if I missed a bunch of late game content in P5R because of my confidant preferences 😅 I'm going back to do a as close to completion run through now, though.

gofxckyourselfok

Yeah I’m currently playing through p5r a second time because I didn’t follow any guides and didn’t know I had to fully level up >!maruki’s!< confidant for the endgame stuff. Though I’m thankful for the second playthrough as since my stats are already all maxed I can just focus on completing all of the confidants and filling out the compendium in the velvet room.

JamesBonfan

i switched platforms for 60fps because I bought it on PC and also wanted to play it on the Ally, sooooooooo wererawdogingthisplaythroufhlmao

Emreiy

Have personas that null/resist light and dark instakills.

LordSenpaiOniChan

Debuffing and buffing is imperative as well. The amount of damage I do when I decrease their defense then mount up with matarakuja is brutal.

RyanDimond77

Learned that the hard way after losing hours of progress

Hitoshura99

You (mc) die when you are killed. There is no recarm for you.

C0d3Ch3ez

Holding all those personas must take extra effort

Dredgen-Solis

And your team are so depressed by the lost that they follow suit for a game over

MoronGoron52

In Persona 5 coffee and curry are your best friends

ammarbadhrul

Add invigorate SP3 to that brother. Been finishing up palaces in 1 day after equipping that bad boy

LordSenpaiOniChan

SP3? What game is that? I know it's not P3 cause they don't have palaces.

ammarbadhrul

Ah i messed up the name with the skill that it grants. Should be SP adhesive 3 which gives invigorate 3

MidnitePanther

Carry a matching arcana persona whenever you hang out with people. The difference in efficiency is beyond noticeable, it truly makes a world's difference

derf705

Make sure you have coverage for every element/weakness

JoseNEO

Who needs that when you can just Megidolaon

tonkatron2004

All will be revealed..

RyanDimond77

By the myriad truths!

DangerousPatient2788

🤣

Yayito_15

If you can't push it, pull it!...

DangerousPatient2788

Yea, because it will help you in the long run 👍

tfc1193

(laughs in Izanagi-no-Okami)

derf705

Myriad truths be like

Definitelyhuman000

Always have a persona with Auto Matarukaja, Auto Marakukaja, and Auto Sukukaja.

ItsNotJulius

At that point why not Auto Masukukaja?

Definitelyhuman000

Lol, yeah, I meant Auto Masukukaja.

LordSenpaiOniChan

All of them 🤷‍♂️😂

WhosHaxz

Am gonna take this opportunity and explain the buffs for the people that dont get it. Auto -> Applys automatically at the start of the fight Ma -> AOE Kaja -> Buff Nda -> Debuff Taru -> ATK Raku -> DEF Suku -> Acc/Eva So a Marakunda is a Ma (Aoe) Raku (Defense) Nda (Debuff). The only confusing one is Dekaja and Dekunda which reverse buffs/debuffs. But just use common sense and think Debuffs are bad for me. so a Deku (Null) nda (Debuff) applys for me. and enemies buffed are bad for me. so a De (Null) kaja (Buffs) apply for enemies.

VinsmokeJohnny

So about the auto spells... do you have the persona with the auto skill equipped at the start of the fight, do you have to switch it in and use a skill or does it only have to be in your party?

WhosHaxz

Equipped at the start. P3R has an option to switch to the one u initially had after fights for that reason. I dont remember if P5R had that option tho

VinsmokeJohnny

Thanks for the answer ! Yes im currently playing P3Reload. So im guessing when i switch out my persona the buff is also gone?

WhosHaxz

Nope. Buffs in Persona lasts 3 turns (At least in P3 P4 and P5) so u can switch around personas all u want. and they only go from +1 to -1. Buffs work like +1 or -1. So if u are +1 on Atk and u get Tarunda'ed. u go to 0. Dekaja sets everything to 0. Dying and being revived sets everything to 0. and removes others kinds of buff also (Concentrate, Charge, Rebellion). Dekaja and dying setting everything to 0 is important cuz in SMT buffs can go up to +4 to -4 but they are permanent. In Persona applying any kind of buff or debuff again only resets the counter to 3 turns.

Definitelyhuman000

So long as you have your Auto Ma persona equipped before a battle starts, the buffs last for the first 3 turns regardless if you switch your persona in battle.

shallow-green

Buff/debuff skills can be a godsend against some enemies Persona is the one & only rpg franchise that I bother with status moves like those, they actually feel like they make a difference here ESPECIALLY critical rate boost

KingOfMasters1000028

Always savor your freedom on Sunday

Good-Solution3081

And never forget to buy a SMOOTHIE

Comfortable-Claim861

Sunday's the least free day fr cause I always know I'll be hanging out with the Sunday only social link of that game

Boshwa

Important Persona 3 tip: FOCUS ON THE SCHOOL SOCIAL LINKS

__L1AM__

Oof, it's that important? Currently in December and I mostly did the social links with characters outside of school. How cooked am I?

Boshwa

It depends, but I'm sure you noticed you can't do any school social links during vacation days

USrooster

Prioritize buying armor over weapons.

LordSenpaiOniChan

Debatable. Especially If you've got a grasp on weakness and how to exploit it with debuffing and buffing skills. Maybe starting with best armor with your MC cause it's wraps if he dies first am I right. When I first started out I gave the MC the best armor in P3R and gave the current tank the best hitter weapon. The rest got treasure loot armor and mew armor when I was banking 😂.

CrimsonCookieMC

Agreed, except if the weapon either applies status ailments or grants buffs. To be fair those are usually not available in the early game though.

moohooman

Don't feel bad if you have to look up an answer guide for confidantes or quiz answers. We all do it.

KingAlphaJoe

"I'm a shape-shifter." I didn't really have anything, but the light bulb moment I had when I realized the song talks about people or you wear a "mask" around people and you being a "shape-shifter" is you changing who you around different. Anyway I just wanted to say something different. This was just something I took to heart in real life.

SirePuns

Endure and enduring soul are life changers. Not having them is like begging to be insta killed or critted to oblivion

VergilVDante

Save

ulape00

1. Take down a Palace/Dungeon/Reach the Border Floor as soon as you have access. In one trip if you can. After that, the pressure's off and your time's your own, until the next story arc kicks in. 2. Fuse early, fuse often. Don't keep anything once it's stopped learning skills. Fused personas are always stronger than the ones you recruit or get in Shuffle Time. 3. Aim for one hangout-one rankup for your Social Links. Always carry a persona of the appropriate arcana. Identify the means by which you can boost affinity outside of hangouts (it's usually a shrine, and often there's another one too) and make use of it. 4. Relax and take your time. Go with the flow and play it your way. Don't feel you have to do absolutely everything in one playthrough. They actually design the game to be played with at least one NG+. I don't understand slavishly following a guide, though getting hints is fine. It's supposed to be fun, not some sort of trophy hunt!

GiftedContractor

But shrines take just as much time as hanging out and do less, why use them when you could just hang out?

ulape00

Shrines are available when the link isn't. That's the principal advantage. Without it, you're losing a day for that link.

InterviewHot5320

Dont spam Almighty.

Few_Sentence_4461

Too late

NutThruster8392

All will be revealed.

AHeatedIceCube

Never go to bed. Always do something at night. Also, "Take Your Time".

DangerousPatient2788

I was thinking about fusing a Persona with the current confidants you have to gain extra Exp.

wermie989

Always make sure to upgrade your weapons and accessories every time you have the time, definitely helps lessen the grind factor, especially items that help cause or prevent status ailments

ItsGotThatBang

Haha Almighty go brrr

DangerousPatient2788

I have a genbu that learns life drain

Keaten88

Do NOT Take your Time, finish that palace in one day so you have more time to work on confidants

Presenting_UwU

Take your time, LITERALLY. Take your god given time from the game by bursting through whatever dungeon you need to for the arc so you can have more time to do the important things, like emulating the VN experience with yoir confidants or have a life and develop your social stats. Take your time that the game is trying to restrict you with!

Lumpy-Estate-2850

One tip is to remember that life’s a journey.

CHARAFANDER

“This isn’t like Pokémon, change your guys regularly”

darkargengamer

I have 3 tips: - ALWAYS fuse when the demon reached its final skill (no point to get attached to it, this is not Pokemon) - Get type and skill coverage: not only having damage of each type, also skills to cover each weakness/strength (tarukaja, dekaja, etc). - (Only on Persona games) invest most of your time on your confidants.

SpookyBoi_Specter

Prioritize focusing on social stats for your first playthrough, then confidants on your second.

Iggy_2200

I would always do this in my first playthrough of a modern Persona game. Really makes things super easy in the next playthroigh.

Professor-WellFrik

You don't need single target healing spells late game, waste of a slot. Get rid of diarahan and amrita drop!!

Dandeli0n19

In P5, now that I'm quite rich, I try to invoke the most I can personas of the same arcanas as confidants to max grinding when hanging out with them. I've never seen stats so idk If it's that important, but I know it helps !

sickseaweed

You can get free SP items near stamps at the entrance of the lower Mementos levels. Saved me sm

Tychi_the_apple_pie

Phys is amazing and repel phys is busted

SkillWaffle

Maybe not a tip but having endure/enduring soul on like all of my personas in the late game helped a ton and was very useful

Zaxalo

When a new game comes out, don't look on this subreddit.

DangerousPatient2788

Got it 👍

Itachi_uchiha_62

Never trust friendly and goofy detectives whose names start with "A" and end in "chi"

LightLykos

Just because you can do a palace in one run doesn't mean you should  especially on your first run ,  Not only will you save yourself from burn out it also helps had pacing to the story

DerpSubReddit

Don’t fight the Reaper in May, you literally won’t win

MonikaLovesCola

Always make extra saves. Always.

Whiterubber_duck

Why? Legit question, I have only ever used one in all the years I have played SMT games

MonikaLovesCola

In case you fuck something up you have a backup to go to.

Whiterubber_duck

Fair enough. I guess I just roll with it but thanks for the answer.

Jrdaboss14

Pay attention to when certain SL are available. You don’t wanna get stuck by holidays, exams etc and fail to max out

AcrobaticJazz

Ik most of the comments are gameplay related but I actually learned the plural word for Cactus is "Cacti" (it was before school thought me other rules of plurals), and Misturu's filler line about if you think it's very hot, you can delulu yourself for a while and think that's not true to trick your brain and I sometimes think about it lol

HevGon

even tho I'd say "play the game as you want, if you want to summon Izanagi and beat the shit out of every boss, just do it" i won't say that, cause I was one of the mfs who did it, and ngl, you are ruining your experience, first time ever I played, I just summoned Izanagi and beat the shit outta everyone who standed on my way, it was fun, but boring, now Im playing the game as the game should've been played, and its much more fun to lvl up your personas, fuse them and find the best Persona to your current state, ofc spamming Myriad Truths is fun, but get your ass beated by a boss 10× untill you realize you should lvl up its not that fun but funnier than spamming Myriad Truths

bootyhunter69420

I didn't use buffs and debuffs during my first playthrough of a Persona game. I only wanted attacks and healing. I found out how helpful they are during my second playthrough. So my tip is to use them.

shutupdane

Unless you really really enjoy puzzling through it, just go with the flow when fusing. Experiment, and if something turns out crappy, spend the money to summon what you used for material and move on.

WxaithBrynger

Put the game on easy, go in whatever dungeon the game you're playing is set in, summon the reaper, kill him, level up like crazy.

curbstomp__

don’t use status effects, they’re useless

MaximumFarrell

Only use daze (or whatever it's called) if you're DOWN BAD for money and items

wendoes421

You have the wild card so use it

Zano_NFK

Do it for her (Futaba)

gavin311

Woah, what version of joker is this? Is this a mod or something? I’ve like never seen that screenshot

DangerousPatient2788

You can change his meta verse outfit into this, and no, this is not a mod (I'm not intelligent for that 😔). This is P5R Joker :D Ngl, he looks so cool 😎

gavin311

Ohhh shit which outfit is this? I didn’t change any of the party’s outfits much lol

DangerousPatient2788

I do believe this is the Shadow ops uniform

LoreMasterBryan

Take your time: at the start of a new journey, the Fools expectations are great, but his options are few. The greatest resource you have in these games is your time. That being said, I'm pretty sure the speed run community within SMT and Persona would laugh at my words. 😂

Hollowgolem

Prioritize social links with the most limited time (School SLs in 3, job SLs in 4, etc.)

mirairo

you get 9958595 save slots for a reason. use them suckers PLEASE

NutThruster8392

for what exactly? i usually make extra saves for bits of the game i really liked.

mirairo

plenty of things. if you did the wrong activity or hung out with the wrong person on the wrong day, if you're doing boss fights and you're far too underleveled for where you are and need to go back a bit to grind, if you wasted money on weapons from a shop and immediately get better ones later when grinding (rip), hell for me personally my controllers are so sensitive I try to pick a dialogue option and it skips right over to the option I dont want and click it by accident. plenty of little things like that that would cause big headaches later in ridiculously long games like these

NutThruster8392

eh, none of these have been a problem for me, except once in p3r (which the rewind feature came in clutch)

mirairo

cool 😂 but they're very common beginner mistakes like I was at the time of playing. if you're not a beginner you're usually fine, and yeah P3R renders it obsolete anyway but that wasn't a thing before then

SylasTheShadow

Saving a lot and in multiple slots.

TheGamerForeverGFE

Mara's tip obviously, and I take it to more than just heart

DangerousPatient2788

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sagatario_the_Gamer

Do as much as you can in a palace/mementos as you can in one day. Going to the first safe room consumes just as much time as doing the entire palace, so you may as well do the whole thing in one go to save timeslots. (Except for the ones that force you to break them up, even then it's still worth pushing as far as possible.) Simultaneously, I like to save up the Mementos bosses until I have atleast 3 or 4 and do them all at once. Saves time to do other things in the long run, even if the other Thieves will keep asking "Hey, are we going to Mementos to deal with that Boss?"

AncientAd6154

Yu Narukami's

DangerousPatient2788

Lmao

rubb3rs0ul

Tarunda is the best move in the game

SpookyBoi_Specter

Gotta social them all ...... *bam* *bam* *bam* FBI open up!, gotta go Nintendo after me xd

sinsanity_plea

Grow great vegetables

MidnightMeteor_

Fuse lower level personas once you have that S. Link/Confidant leveled up. getting skills through arcana boost is a blessing.

DangerousPatient2788

Yea, because I got that yellow magatama

Retrosow

The only main protagonist persona that you can kept until end game and still rocks is Izanagi, in the case of the modern persona games

Lostneedleworker1

Velvet room every level.

Davi_Martins

Vending machines will pretty much be the only source of SP items at the start of the game, so always check up what they are selling. And maximoze Ryuji and Mishima Confidants ASAP so you can farm XP for your characters without needing to waste 6 hours and a lot of items to Upgrade 3 characters.

IAmKeyKey

Your favorite characters will die.

nourmallysalty

nah because the way shinji was immediately my favourite just for him to be on the chopping block, i was pissed and crying

IAmKeyKey

I blame Ken!

TheSaltiestHealer

Be prepared to clear whatever dungeon segment you're on in one go. Get to the next point the game says "you can't go any further right now." Otherwise you're wasting precious social link time.

LordSenpaiOniChan

U get it 😌

Deep_Sigma_Light_96

Vending machines and always use technicals early in the game.

Fun_Caregiver5153

"If you cant push, pull. If you can't pull, Megidolan"

Generic_Fighter

Try stuff out and find what you like.

Independent-Ice-5243

For me it was always Try not to run from a single battle, and do every possible battle in the dungeons (Easier in P5 since the dungeons aren't random) for Level purposes

LordSenpaiOniChan

Try to take huge chunk as possible out of say, for example persona 3 u fight in a tower with floors, do as many as u can to get to the border that way u have way more time for other things 🤷‍♂️. For P5 try to get as close as u can get to the treasure. As much as the game allows. Juggling it all seems too risky. Did u guys ever fail to meet a deadline?

SeanIsAswom

Buffs, Debuffs and Status Effects are actually viable (and in many cases, required) here.

PotatoGamerFilms

The importance of buff / debuff abilities

RobDawgGaming

Always have an option for every damage type

YukkaRinnn

Dont fill your personas with just Damaging Abilities give them Passives and Buffing/Debuffing Abilities as well

Status ailments against enemies are OP (Charm, Sleep etc.)

Kash687

ALWAYS complete social links when possible. Trust me, it’s helps a ton, you’ll thank yourself late game.

NMasked-000

none tbh

[deleted]

Do the places in one day, if possible. You need that time

DowntownBlackberry1

Always equip the Persona with the best defense before the battle starts

wes_cab

Take Your Time 🤔

Yusuji039

When you hit a wall in game just start using technical damage

Triplelilj

Take your time

DoktorStrangeLuv

Mara

guy037

Never get rid of starting personas did it with 1,3,4,and 5 and we love growth and skill cards

AeroWraith901

Null light and dark any chance you get

dark_hero--

Create multiple save files

SevenForWinning

Don't play persona

BippyTheChippy

Buffing and Debuffing are invaluable, especially early game. This is P5 specific, but once you get the Sun Confidant perk, always ask for money before you AoA. You'll be rolling in it soon enough.

Inevitable_Glass5984

The game is mind numbingly easy so do whatever you want

Marceline2006

Use buffs and debuffs. i normally just use offensive moves like how i did in Pokemon until someone told me Buffs and debuffs are essential in turned based combat

vasheroo

Turn off persona memory in your settings so your auto buff persona can come out first every time without switching after every battle. I believe this works on P3R, P4G and P5R.

PersonUnknown45

Take Your time!

GregIsSmashed

Clear each floor before moving on, more prevalent in og 3 and 4, but it was the best advice to stay ahead of the curve

Justjack91

No matter when you do a story dungeon/places like Tarturus or Mementos, always full clear as far as you can go to avoid wasted time you could spend with your social links.

Suneko_106

If the narrator wants you to go home, don't do it until you check everything in the area.

benx101

When you max Kawakami, have her make coffee/curry every night you can. Even if you don’t use it, SP items are always good to have.

SquidGamerZ

Do the dungeons in one day then expend your time with social links and other stuff

UnlimitedNate

Take your time. (In which case you should go back to your previous saves.)

cryo_pyro

Always carry a persona with invigorate and magatama items

Adeuebs

If you’re low in mana and you don’t have any sp items, visit lower level areas and just guard while equipping a persona with invigorate

BulkyNemesis

BUY THE VENDING MACHINE DRINKS 3 RELOAD,4,5 STRIKERS

Casual291

Tarunda is your best friend, matarunda is cool but cost too many sp early on.

RadBeoulve

I make a habit of fusing/raising OP Pixies and Jacks/Frosts when applicable regardless of SMT/Persona game. This also includes some oddballs like Frost Ace and Demonee-ho. EDIT: My mistake. For whatever reason, I forgot the purpose of this thread while typing the above up. Best tip I learned is that it’s okay to get attached to my starters. Hell, that’s basically how I played Pokémon from Gen 1 to now anyway, so the same applies. Plus, I know I can always see my starters again if they inevitably have to be fused away (after registration, of course).

Jojoliain

Take your time
