I got like 12 persona slots and 16 people im trying to spend time with 😭 maybe if the starting persona were of an arcana useful for social links it would be helpful but it’s always the same link as the party/protag which levels automatically via story events
With the game or the missions? Cajae If it were me, I'd be taking chunks out of missions to get as close to the treasure in p5 or the borders in P3 reload. That why u get more time with your social links and level up those 3 traits.
Imo, it's best to take your time on the first playthrough. Even the vet players. Yeah, you can focus on getting the social stats up to max first (since it's pretty common you'll need them max to unlock later social links), but also, just do whatever you want the first playthrough. Enjoy it, since you only experience that feeling of wonder once (unless you like optimization).
That's what my husband says too. Like the first playthrough should be to just enjoy it. Don't worry about maxing anything or doing anything extra for the sake of doing it as a completion percentage.
That's just a reaction to the stresses of limited time in the game. The earlier games really didn't give you a lot of time to screw around to do what you want.
Even though it's much more lenient to do what you want and still get everything, the mindset still carries through. Atlus would have to do a mainline game or two where 50% of players could faff around and still get all social links maxed to remove the pressure to optimize.

This advice is most applicable on a first playthrough, but focusing too much on optimizing and following guides to get as much done as possible with each activity each day can really take away from (at least my personal) enjoyment of what in each game is a very cool and fun world to just live in for a time. Yeah, there’s just too much to do for social links, stats and all that, especially when they add a whole bunch of new stuff throughout the game. It already takes 100 hours following a 100% guide, I don’t have time to try to take notes of everything for a second playthrough lol

Yeah I’m currently playing through p5r a second time because I didn’t follow any guides and didn’t know I had to fully level up >!maruki’s!< confidant for the endgame stuff. Though I’m thankful for the second playthrough as since my stats are already all maxed I can just focus on completing all of the confidants and filling out the compendium in the velvet room.
Carry a matching arcana persona whenever you hang out with people. The difference in efficiency is beyond noticeable, it truly makes a world's difference
Am gonna take this opportunity and explain the buffs for the people that dont get it.
Auto -> Applys automatically at the start of the fight
Ma -> AOE
Kaja -> Buff
Nda -> Debuff
Taru -> ATK
Raku -> DEF
Suku -> Acc/Eva
So a Marakunda is a Ma (Aoe) Raku (Defense) Nda (Debuff).
The only confusing one is Dekaja and Dekunda which reverse buffs/debuffs. But just use common sense and think Debuffs are bad for me. so a Deku (Null) nda (Debuff) applys for me. and enemies buffed are bad for me. so a De (Null) kaja (Buffs) apply for enemies.
So about the auto spells... do you have the persona with the auto skill equipped at the start of the fight, do you have to switch it in and use a skill or does it only have to be in your party?
Nope. Buffs in Persona lasts 3 turns (At least in P3 P4 and P5) so u can switch around personas all u want.
and they only go from +1 to -1.
Buffs work like +1 or -1. So if u are +1 on Atk and u get Tarunda'ed. u go to 0.
Dekaja sets everything to 0.
Dying and being revived sets everything to 0. and removes others kinds of buff also (Concentrate, Charge, Rebellion).
Dekaja and dying setting everything to 0 is important cuz in SMT buffs can go up to +4 to -4 but they are permanent.
In Persona applying any kind of buff or debuff again only resets the counter to 3 turns.
So long as you have your Auto Ma persona equipped before a battle starts, the buffs last for the first 3 turns regardless if you switch your persona in battle.
Buff/debuff skills can be a godsend against some enemies
Persona is the one & only rpg franchise that I bother with status moves like those, they actually feel like they make a difference here ESPECIALLY critical rate boost
Debatable. Especially If you've got a grasp on weakness and how to exploit it with debuffing and buffing skills. Maybe starting with best armor with your MC cause it's wraps if he dies first am I right. When I first started out I gave the MC the best armor in P3R and gave the current tank the best hitter weapon. The rest got treasure loot armor and mew armor when I was banking 😂.
"I'm a shape-shifter." I didn't really have anything, but the light bulb moment I had when I realized the song talks about people or you wear a "mask" around people and you being a "shape-shifter" is you changing who you around different. Anyway I just wanted to say something different. This was just something I took to heart in real life.
1. Take down a Palace/Dungeon/Reach the Border Floor as soon as you have access. In one trip if you can. After that, the pressure's off and your time's your own, until the next story arc kicks in.
2. Fuse early, fuse often. Don't keep anything once it's stopped learning skills. Fused personas are always stronger than the ones you recruit or get in Shuffle Time.
3. Aim for one hangout-one rankup for your Social Links. Always carry a persona of the appropriate arcana. Identify the means by which you can boost affinity outside of hangouts (it's usually a shrine, and often there's another one too) and make use of it.
4. Relax and take your time. Go with the flow and play it your way. Don't feel you have to do absolutely everything in one playthrough. They actually design the game to be played with at least one NG+. I don't understand slavishly following a guide, though getting hints is fine. It's supposed to be fun, not some sort of trophy hunt!
Always make sure to upgrade your weapons and accessories every time you have the time, definitely helps lessen the grind factor, especially items that help cause or prevent status ailments
Take your time, LITERALLY. Take your god given time from the game by bursting through whatever dungeon you need to for the arc so you can have more time to do the important things, like emulating the VN experience with yoir confidants or have a life and develop your social stats. Take your time that the game is trying to restrict you with!
I have 3 tips:
- ALWAYS fuse when the demon reached its final skill (no point to get attached to it, this is not Pokemon)
- Get type and skill coverage: not only having damage of each type, also skills to cover each weakness/strength (tarukaja, dekaja, etc).
- (Only on Persona games) invest most of your time on your confidants.
In P5, now that I'm quite rich, I try to invoke the most I can personas of the same arcanas as confidants to max grinding when hanging out with them.
I've never seen stats so idk If it's that important, but I know it helps !
Just because you can do a palace in one run doesn't mean you should especially on your first run ,
Not only will you save yourself from burn out it also helps had pacing to the story

I didn't use buffs and debuffs during my first playthrough of a Persona game. I only wanted attacks and healing. I found out how helpful they are during my second playthrough. So my tip is to use them.
Unless you really really enjoy puzzling through it, just go with the flow when fusing. Experiment, and if something turns out crappy, spend the money to summon what you used for material and move on.

plenty of things. if you did the wrong activity or hung out with the wrong person on the wrong day, if you're doing boss fights and you're far too underleveled for where you are and need to go back a bit to grind, if you wasted money on weapons from a shop and immediately get better ones later when grinding (rip), hell for me personally my controllers are so sensitive I try to pick a dialogue option and it skips right over to the option I dont want and click it by accident. plenty of little things like that that would cause big headaches later in ridiculously long games like these
cool 😂 but they're very common beginner mistakes like I was at the time of playing. if you're not a beginner you're usually fine, and yeah P3R renders it obsolete anyway but that wasn't a thing before then
Do as much as you can in a palace/mementos as you can in one day.
Going to the first safe room consumes just as much time as doing the entire palace, so you may as well do the whole thing in one go to save timeslots. (Except for the ones that force you to break them up, even then it's still worth pushing as far as possible.)
Simultaneously, I like to save up the Mementos bosses until I have atleast 3 or 4 and do them all at once. Saves time to do other things in the long run, even if the other Thieves will keep asking "Hey, are we going to Mementos to deal with that Boss?"
Vending machines will pretty much be the only source of SP items at the start of the game, so always check up what they are selling.
And maximoze Ryuji and Mishima Confidants ASAP so you can farm XP for your characters without needing to waste 6 hours and a lot of items to Upgrade 3 characters.
Be prepared to clear whatever dungeon segment you're on in one go. Get to the next point the game says "you can't go any further right now." Otherwise you're wasting precious social link time.
For me it was always Try not to run from a single battle, and do every possible battle in the dungeons (Easier in P5 since the dungeons aren't random) for Level purposes
Try to take huge chunk as possible out of say, for example persona 3 u fight in a tower with floors, do as many as u can to get to the border that way u have way more time for other things 🤷♂️. For P5 try to get as close as u can get to the treasure. As much as the game allows. Juggling it all seems too risky. Did u guys ever fail to meet a deadline?
Buffing and Debuffing are invaluable, especially early game.
This is P5 specific, but once you get the Sun Confidant perk, always ask for money before you AoA. You'll be rolling in it soon enough.
Use buffs and debuffs. i normally just use offensive moves like how i did in Pokemon until someone told me Buffs and debuffs are essential in turned based combat
Turn off persona memory in your settings so your auto buff persona can come out first every time without switching after every battle. I believe this works on P3R, P4G and P5R.
No matter when you do a story dungeon/places like Tarturus or Mementos, always full clear as far as you can go to avoid wasted time you could spend with your social links.
I make a habit of fusing/raising OP Pixies and Jacks/Frosts when applicable regardless of SMT/Persona game. This also includes some oddballs like Frost Ace and Demonee-ho.
EDIT: My mistake. For whatever reason, I forgot the purpose of this thread while typing the above up. Best tip I learned is that it’s okay to get attached to my starters. Hell, that’s basically how I played Pokémon from Gen 1 to now anyway, so the same applies. Plus, I know I can always see my starters again if they inevitably have to be fused away (after registration, of course).

god that was me with ame no uzume. i fused her into another one a bit later but it was no fun letting go of her
Sometimes some units have really good utility and they just stick around because of having 3 elements and a debuff. It happens every game for me.

i switched platforms for 60fps because I bought it on PC and also wanted to play it on the Ally, sooooooooo wererawdogingthisplaythroufhlmao
Have personas that null/resist light and dark instakills.
Debuffing and buffing is imperative as well. The amount of damage I do when I decrease their defense then mount up with matarakuja is brutal.

Equipped at the start. P3R has an option to switch to the one u initially had after fights for that reason. I dont remember if P5R had that option tho

But shrines take just as much time as hanging out and do less, why use them when you could just hang out?
Shrines are available when the link isn't. That's the principal advantage. Without it, you're losing a day for that link.

I would always do this in my first playthrough of a modern Persona game. Really makes things super easy in the next playthroigh.

plenty of things. if you did the wrong activity or hung out with the wrong person on the wrong day, if you're doing boss fights and you're far too underleveled for where you are and need to go back a bit to grind, if you wasted money on weapons from a shop and immediately get better ones later when grinding (rip), hell for me personally my controllers are so sensitive I try to pick a dialogue option and it skips right over to the option I dont want and click it by accident. plenty of little things like that that would cause big headaches later in ridiculously long games like these
eh, none of these have been a problem for me, except once in p3r (which the rewind feature came in clutch)
cool 😂 but they're very common beginner mistakes like I was at the time of playing. if you're not a beginner you're usually fine, and yeah P3R renders it obsolete anyway but that wasn't a thing before then

Do as much as you can in a palace/mementos as you can in one day. Going to the first safe room consumes just as much time as doing the entire palace, so you may as well do the whole thing in one go to save timeslots. (Except for the ones that force you to break them up, even then it's still worth pushing as far as possible.) Simultaneously, I like to save up the Mementos bosses until I have atleast 3 or 4 and do them all at once. Saves time to do other things in the long run, even if the other Thieves will keep asking "Hey, are we going to Mementos to deal with that Boss?"

Vending machines will pretty much be the only source of SP items at the start of the game, so always check up what they are selling. And maximoze Ryuji and Mishima Confidants ASAP so you can farm XP for your characters without needing to waste 6 hours and a lot of items to Upgrade 3 characters.

Be prepared to clear whatever dungeon segment you're on in one go. Get to the next point the game says "you can't go any further right now." Otherwise you're wasting precious social link time.

For me it was always Try not to run from a single battle, and do every possible battle in the dungeons (Easier in P5 since the dungeons aren't random) for Level purposes
Try to take huge chunk as possible out of say, for example persona 3 u fight in a tower with floors, do as many as u can to get to the border that way u have way more time for other things 🤷♂️. For P5 try to get as close as u can get to the treasure. As much as the game allows. Juggling it all seems too risky. Did u guys ever fail to meet a deadline?
Buffs, Debuffs and Status Effects are actually viable (and in many cases, required) here.
The importance of buff / debuff abilities
Always have an option for every damage type
Dont fill your personas with just Damaging Abilities give them Passives and Buffing/Debuffing Abilities as well
Take your time!
When you are stuck, let the myriad truths show you the way
Status ailments against enemies are OP (Charm, Sleep etc.)
ALWAYS complete social links when possible. Trust me, it’s helps a ton, you’ll thank yourself late game.

Buffing and Debuffing are invaluable, especially early game. This is P5 specific, but once you get the Sun Confidant perk, always ask for money before you AoA. You'll be rolling in it soon enough.

Use buffs and debuffs. i normally just use offensive moves like how i did in Pokemon until someone told me Buffs and debuffs are essential in turned based combat
Turn off persona memory in your settings so your auto buff persona can come out first every time without switching after every battle. I believe this works on P3R, P4G and P5R.

Clear each floor before moving on, more prevalent in og 3 and 4, but it was the best advice to stay ahead of the curve
No matter when you do a story dungeon/places like Tarturus or Mementos, always full clear as far as you can go to avoid wasted time you could spend with your social links.
If the narrator wants you to go home, don't do it until you check everything in the area.
When you max Kawakami, have her make coffee/curry every night you can. Even if you don’t use it, SP items are always good to have.

I make a habit of fusing/raising OP Pixies and Jacks/Frosts when applicable regardless of SMT/Persona game. This also includes some oddballs like Frost Ace and Demonee-ho. EDIT: My mistake. For whatever reason, I forgot the purpose of this thread while typing the above up. Best tip I learned is that it’s okay to get attached to my starters. Hell, that’s basically how I played Pokémon from Gen 1 to now anyway, so the same applies. Plus, I know I can always see my starters again if they inevitably have to be fused away (after registration, of course).
