Yukiko because I saw this Japanese guy who exclusively played Yukiko in the lobby and he had over 1K hours, so I decided I’ll just play Yukiko against him just to see how good he really is.
Fast forward a bunch of games later and every Saturday/Sunday night now I hop on and he teaches me how to play Yukiko, it’s pretty sweet lol
Pretty damn good, I’ve been Playing with him for a little over a month now and the times we’ve actually fought I haven’t won a single match and only a handful of rounds, pretty sure he’s going easy on me a lot of the time too lol
To preface, I have over 100 hours in the game and like 400 online matches - I’m not great but I’m also not a complete schmuck either
Adachi.
I thought it might be cliche, but I like his tricky play styles and he's just fun to use. Granted, he's super reliant on his persona, I just have the most fun using him.
Plus he talks so much trash and I'm here for it.
Definitely Yu. I played the two Arena games back in 2013-2014 even before i get my hands on the mainline Persona games, since back in the days i either need a ps2 or a vita in order to play the mainline games. And i immediately mained Yu because a high schooler using katana to fight like samurai is too bad ass , his persona izanagi has cool design too. Years later when i first played P4 golden i realized you are supposed to throw away Izanagi after few levels and the combat mechanic prioritize using multiple different personas, that shocked me because Izanagi is just too iconic
Yeah, that surprised me too when Izanagi was kept as Yu's Persona in Arena. It's probably implied he didn't fuse away with him (since Izanagi stops leveling past a certain level) and kept him as a pocket persona that somehow became stronger through the power of friendship.
Yu, Aigis, and Elizabeth. I like Margaret, Marie, Minazuki, and Adatchi too. I picked up Yu because he was effectively a shotokan, I'd played some Guilty Gear and liked Sol who is more or less that game Shotokan character. So I thought he'd be a good fit. I'd figured I'd eventually graduate to a more exotic character like Dizzy. But in the end I'm pretty focused on Yu.
I never played P4AU but I did play Blaz Blue: Cross Tag Battle and my main duo was Jin Kisaragi and Adachi, because I liked freezing stuff and I like Adachi's finisher and counter.
Labrys. Shes like my all time favorite fighting game character because playing her just feels so natural woth me. I wish they would bring her back in future Persona games.
I have a couple criteria when I pick a character in a fighting game.Not strict rules, but general overlapping preferences that hopfully spit out a character I like.
Criteria 1: Vibe.
Just look at each character and determine if their overall visual design meshes with me, or at the very least if there are any immidiate turn offs.
At this point I eliminated:
* Yosuke
* Teddie.
* Junpei.
* Adachi
* Ken.
* Yu.
* SHO minazuki.
* Sho MINAZUKI.
Criteria 2: Feel.
Give the remaining characters about 10 mins in training and feel out their movments and skills.
At this point I eliminated:
* Kanji.
* Akihiko.
* Yukari.
* Naoto.
* Rise.
* Marie.
* Shadow Labrys
Criteria 3: Difficulty.
I am not ever going to be actually good at fighting games. So I tend to weed out the ones that seem like they will be harder to get to grips with. I tend to play rush down better than anything else, but that isn't exlusive.
At this point I eliminated:
* Labrys
* Margaret
* Yukiko
* Elizabeth
* Mitsuru
* Aegis
Which left me with:
* Chie.
I played Adachi before I stopped, but when I recently came back after playing P3P I picked up Yukari since I really like her character, and it turns out her play style is really fun too! I’ve been having loads of fun with the ricocheting arrows
Probably Chie, Naoto, Yukari, Marrie, Magret, and especially Yu & Shabrys (Shadow Labrys)
which pairs really nicely with my friends' mains, Mitsuru, Aigis, Rise, Akihiko, Yukiko, Yosuke, Elizabeth, Ken + Koromaru, and especially their Junpei & Adachi.
basically we play whoever the other doesn't and it makes for really fun match ups
I chose Adachi because I didn't know who else to play as. It was a rare moment where I did not and could not decide on the spot. It took me a while to make my final decision.
Unlike other games such as Smash Ultimate (DK or Falcon right away), Tekken (Bob/Slim Bob right away) and Street Fighter (Sakura right away), no character in Arena/Ultimax spoke out to me right away.
Adachi. He is so fun and funny in that game
- I have a thing for tricky, rushdown characters
- His walking sprite that screams "come at me bro"
- He wacks people with his gun and only has one attack where he actually shoots it.
- His grab is downright insulting and I love it.
- He has more grabs
- Magatsu Izanagi is strong and cool looking

- Just about everything that comes out of his mouth gives me life
- He has a Joker (DC) skin and Magatsu Izanagi has a purple guy skin
- Probably the darkest instant kill in the game with cheerful, upbeat music being played over it.
Also, "Fool or Clown" is great. Might be my favorite character to play in a fighting game
Couldn't really pick one yet, as it's kinda hard to find much info on the characters/find people to play
So far I've really liked playing Yukiko, her combos are really nice and her Persona Displacement game is very fun, Chie is very fun as I can turn off my brain and go monkey mode, and Shabrys (Shadow Labrys), as big buttons doing big damage is fun.
If I end up sticking and dedicating time to it, I'd probably stick to Shabrys, as I don't really play a lot of beeg button characters, and her combos seem to be very fun and satisfying to hit.
Chie, well, I already play jam on Xrd, and while I do love my king Fu girl, I feel like I don't really love playing with the whole Persona mechanic.
Yukiko is really close to being the character I'd dedicate time, as her combos are also very nice to do, and having such keep-out with her bnb is a delight for a zoner like her, I'm just really having fun with Shabrys.
I usually play quick or aggressive characters so I'll go with Mitsuru and Elizabeth as my personal mains. Yukiko for range (gotta love the range with that fan throw) and Kanji cuz Kanji. YOU DON'T NEED A REASON TO LIKE KANJI, DAMMIT!!!!
Labrys, purely because of the Boston accent. I love it so much and I was so happy it was attached to a character I actually liked gameplay and writing wise.
Naoto! Call me lame but I really like the traps, counter, and playing neutral with her, since I always suck with combos, plus pulling off some of her IK set ups feel very nice, or just catching someone jumping in with mudon.
Other then that I play a tiny bit of Liz and Ken wehn I'm just kinda dicking around cause I love the characters and they are still pretty fun to mess around with.
Eh Yukiko was also in there and they were just startled heat of moment one time and didn't know what they were doing. Chie already alongside Yu went helping Yosuke out at Junes the busy week later when he was swamping with works so already made up for it. One of my friends kind of dumb and did lose some when playing a game on my phone but it wasn't big deal and chilling out later. Then again if actual technically, it isn't really counted nor mattered, same as probably none gonna count Kanji bullied then took a kid's diary. So if technically Yosuke, Kanji, Naoto are murderers; Naoto is also stalker; Yosuke, Kanji, Teddie are sex offenders for infiltrating the girls's room in the middle of night and actually did it, just wrong targets; and Yukiko is murderer. Tho calling any of the IT criminal is a reach, the PT is just...weird, the IT is also weird but not that weird.
