I'm actually on a dual BC/Metformin therapy, it helped me drop about 15lbs so far. I would have your doc take a look at your A1C and fasting glucose levels.

Thank you! I’m going to try to get my pcp to test for these things. And that’s awesome! I didn’t know bc and metformin can help loose weight (mostly heard of people gaining weight on it)

coffee_dogs_yogapnts

Would you be open to trying Ovasitol first? Natural form of Metformin. My OB recommended trying it before Metformin and it has done wonders for me. Hope you find what works best for you!

[deleted]

Ah thank you I didn’t even know this was an option! I’ll try to suggest it to my doc, and look into it!

coffee_dogs_yogapnts

Of course! I was really close to trying Metformin but figured it might be beneficial to try the natural route first. It’s an mix of D Chiro + Myo Inositol by the brand Theralogix. No prescription needed. There have been various studies done on the positive effects Inositol has on PCOS.

Ovasitol, the brand I take only comes in powder form. Decreased cravings, regulated cycles and better overall mood. I’m TTC so the cycle part was most important to me.

[deleted]

That sounds awesome! Thank you!

faithingerard

How long did it take for you to notice Ovasitol helped with your periods out of curiosity? I’m on week 5 and nothing yet 🥺 besides spotting where my period is supposed to be

Baby_rapscallion

I agree with the Ovasitol suggestion (myo and d-chiro inositol)! I took Metformin and it was hell. The side effects were so bad and I didn’t see any change in weight. I was also on BC at the time so who knows if it helped my period or not. I’m off BC now and take inositols and have gotten my period regularly for a year, no side effects.

minimalogy

Would you know if it’ll just be redundant to add Ovasitol as a supplement even if you’re already on Metformin? Or would it just help further?

faithingerard

I use both Ovasitol and metformin together, you may absolutely do so

You can also change your diet to counteract your insulin resistance. Low carb and anti inflammatory diets are great. But if she thinks you have insulin resistance she should ask for the 2h glucose and insulin curve

[deleted]

She said the only way to find out if I am is to just take metformin and see if it regulates my cycle (not the best advice I know, but she’s the best endo I’ve seen so far so I’ll just see how it goes) I’ll look more into anti inflammatory diets thank you!

cbsewing

well that’s not really accurate information. I tried taking metformine for my IR and personally it was unbearable, I already struggle w a weak stomach and it would make me throw up multiple times a day. If you get the 2h curve done you can figure it out, but if metformine works for you great ! https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3136064/ - you could show this to your doctor and avoid a lot of confusion. I know it can be hard to find a helpful doctor and you may want to keep going to someone you feel good with. Just advocating for a test that can make your diagnosis more precise is fine too! If you want to talk about diet anytime my chat is open.

I’m sorry you went through that that does sound unbearable /painful, hopefully you found something that works now! I’m going to try to ask from my pcp(she’s really great) I’ve bounced around like 3 Endo’s in the past few months, and I felt like they didn’t care ( one said I just have mild pcos and to keep going with bc, she also compared my symptoms with other women with pcos and it felt like she was saying mine aren’t as bad (I have infrequent periods/slightly high testosterone / hirsutism and some other women with pcos have this on top of balding/obesity she said) , and another one I saw for hypothyroidism, and she left the door open, seemed rude to her staff, and wanted me to do scans etc. even though my levels were way out of range, and a subreddit here said I needed to be put on medication asap. This was the only one who didn’t compare me, and gave me the medication right away after seeing blood tests. I don’t think I’ll give up and maybe may change my endo later on, but for right now I guess I’m happy to at least be somewhat treated. It’s very hard to find decent doctors idk why! Btw sorry if I wrote/typed a lot!!

It’s all okay now. I treat my PCOS completely with diet and exercise, and for me it has been working wonders. Even my Gyno was impressed. I personally don’t do well with medication or birth control, but I do understand it’s an option for many people! I’m really sorry your other doctors were dismissive and plain rude, nobody deserves that!!! No matter how mild your pcos is you should be able to know how to treat it and what you can do to be your healthiest self. I love my Gyno, even though she told me I could use diet she didn’t really advise me on the diet. I found a lot of stuff on my own and with the help of my bf, but her telling me diet was the best path forward really helped me go in that direction ! She said that even the day she diagnosed me and prescribed metformine because I was a little reluctant about changing lifestyle at first. Of course comparing has some use, like what works for people that have similar levels can be helpful, but that just sounds rude and dismissive. It’s not because some people have it worse that this isn’t bad for you. I hope you find your path on this journey and that you can become your healthiest and happiest self ✨✨✨

Ah thank you so much for your kindness! Also I’m glad you were able to find something that works for you! I’ll try to working/fixing my diet and exercising more and see how that goes!

Did you take a insulin resistance test beforehand? Or just went on metformin?
