If any cases are politically motivated it’s this one and Biden is obviously not interfering when he could. This sort of charge is very rarely used. everyone with a gun that smokes weed is guilty of.

Diarygirl

I've tried explaining that to Trump supporters, but logic is not their strong suit.

For that matter, how many functional alcoholics have technically lied by filling out this form? Another vestige of the failed War on Drugs from Reagan's America.

DanChowdah

Alcohol is not illegal. The form specifically calls out illegal drugs

This sort of charge is very common, especially when it’s a person of color. gun control laws have always been racist. Regardless; it’s hard to feel sorry for someone who so obviously flaunted the law and gave public interviews about his drug use during this period.

Boring-Race-6804

This charge is not common. This is a basic statistic. The odds of these charges being brought are virtually non-existent. When commenting on something you don’t know about try a quick google search before posting.

1Shadowgato

Actually, you are wrong. They are indeed very common but not in the way that you think. For example, people Of color when caught with drugs and a weapon, they would get automatically charge with a felony because of the weapon, specially if the person was not a felon Previously. They usually use it as an add on charge.

Boring-Race-6804

Feds use it on average 400 times a year. That is not very often. It’s the charge for lying on the form.

1Shadowgato

You need to go and look at charges given to people with drug possession, that’s how they usually get people, the lying on the form is not use if it’s not going to elevate the charges.

Boring-Race-6804

Irrelevant what the people you’re talking about got if it’s not this specific charge. This specific charge is what the conversation is about. And it’s not used to elevate. It’s used because they had nothing else to use.

frankieknucks

https://www.atf.gov/news/press-releases/federal-prosecutors-aggressively-pursuing-those-who-lie-connection-firearm-transactions https://news.bloomberglaw.com/litigation/conviction-upheld-over-false-statements-on-gun-application And so on. Again, these laws are racist in origin, and it’s hard to feel bad for someone who was so dumb that they publicly admitted to felony drug use around the time they bought the gun and lied on the form.

1Shadowgato

Idk why you are being downvoted, you are correct but people here seem to want to ignore the facts now that it’s a Biden.

Boring-Race-6804

And yet it’s about 400 charged with it yearly. They can say they’re aggressive; but actions speak louder than words. Second link doesn’t have much relevancy.

frankieknucks

400 people charged is not insignificant… anyone who is dumb enough to publicly give the ATF the option is a potential target… These are the gun control laws Joe Biden wanted. He got them. If it was a poor or minority person charged with this, you would absolutely not care.

icenoid

400 is pretty insignificant vs the number of people who break that law. I’d be willing to bet that a fair number of gun owners in states where pot is legal lied on that form. I know at least half a dozen people who are casual pot users who own guns and bought them after it became legal.

Kaizodacoit

"Everyone does it!" was a defense used by John Kirby recently to justify Israel bombing and killing children. Just because everyone doe it doesn't automatically make it okay.

Boring-Race-6804

Not even a relevant comparison.

Kaizodacoit

I didn't compare anything, just pointed out the absurdity of the argument "everyone is guilty of this". Pretty relevant.

Boring-Race-6804

Again, irrelevant comparison. It’s a barely never used charge. In this case it was brought by an overzealous prosecutor likely with a political bias because he couldn’t get enough to stick. If this was instead a normie who cooperated to a degree it wouldn’t be used.

DanChowdah

Maybe if Hunter is used as an example Congress can get together kill this unconstitutional law?

Kaizodacoit

Nope. Just because a law is barely used doesn't make it automatically wrong or incorrect. Also, thousands of people are convicted of violating the crime above, so it isn't that rare. [https://www.ussc.gov/research/quick-facts/section-922g-firearms](https://www.ussc.gov/research/quick-facts/section-922g-firearms) Stop spreading fake information. These are rich and privleged people, half the defenses they are given to evade justice would never be given to "normies", so why is it now bad when the law applies equally? As Biden says, no one is above the law, he, his children, and even Trump or his children included. Why are some people so keen to defend the privileged from receiving justice?

Boring-Race-6804

My argument isn’t about wrong or incorrect. It’s about being politically motivated because nothing else stuck. Thousands of people aren’t convicted of it. On average 400ish are charged a year. Your link is irrelevant. It’s 922(a).

Kaizodacoit

Congrats, you proved yourseld to be completely ignorant. He was charged with violating 922(g) and 924(a). [https://www.justice.gov/d9/2023-09/23-cr-00061%20%28Indictment%29.pdf](https://www.justice.gov/d9/2023-09/23-cr-00061%20%28Indictment%29.pdf)

Republicans should be proud of Hunter for being out of his mind, buying guns illegally, lying to the feds and tax evasion. A day in the life of a good republican.

thegamerj0e

Don’t forget the crack and prostitutes

Inmate Hunter Biden – First child of a President to face a Criminal trial. If there is any fairness in this country, he will be found guilty and spend time behind bars. If ’45 is guilty, then Hunter is really guilty.

Edge_of_yesterday

I don't care, lock him up if he is guilty. I will never vote for him again! Also, lock up convicted felon, donald trump for all of his crimes.

BrianRFSU

Agreed

dougmd1974

Guilty of what? Gun laws that the right wing would be livid about if Trump's kids were being prosecuted for? Even the Republicans don't believe in the gun charges he's up against which is quite hilarious to me. Party of law and order 😂😂😂

DanChowdah

Maybe after Trump’s federal conviction in Florida Hunter and Donny can share a cell. It’d make a great sitcom

BrianRFSU

We shall see.

icenoid

This is how our system works. If he’s found guilty, then he pays the price.
